1 Ἤγγιζεν (Was drawing near) δὲ (now) ἡ (the) ἑορτὴ (Feast) τῶν (of) ἀζύμων (Unleavened) ἡ (-) λεγομένη (called) Πάσχα (the Passover). 2 καὶ (And) ἐζήτουν (were seeking) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes) τὸ (-) πῶς (how) ἀνέλωσιν (they might put to death) αὐτόν (Him)· ἐφοβοῦντο (they were afraid of) γὰρ (for) τὸν (the) λαόν (people).

Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus

3 Εἰσῆλθεν (Entered) δὲ (then) Σατανᾶς (Satan) εἰς (into) Ἰούδαν (Judas) τὸν (the one) καλούμενον (being called) Ἰσκαριώτην (Iscariot), ὄντα (being) ἐκ (of) τοῦ (the) ἀριθμοῦ (number) τῶν (of the) δώδεκα (Twelve)· 4 καὶ (And) ἀπελθὼν (having gone away) συνελάλησεν (he discussed with) τοῖς (the) ἀρχιερεῦσιν (chief priests) καὶ (and) στρατηγοῖς (captains) τὸ (-) πῶς (how) αὐτοῖς (to them) παραδῷ (he might betray) αὐτόν (Him). 5 καὶ (And) ἐχάρησαν (they rejoiced), καὶ (and) συνέθεντο (agreed) αὐτῷ (him) ἀργύριον (money) δοῦναι (to give). 6 καὶ (And) ἐξωμολόγησεν (he promised), καὶ (and) ἐζήτει (began seeking) εὐκαιρίαν (opportunity) τοῦ (-) παραδοῦναι (to betray) αὐτὸν (Him) ἄτερ (apart from) ὄχλου (a crowd) αὐτοῖς (to them).

Preparing the Passover

7 Ἦλθεν (Came) δὲ (then) ἡ (the) ἡμέρα (day) τῶν (of the) ἀζύμων (Unleavened), ἐν (on) ᾗ (which) ἔδει (it was necessary for) θύεσθαι (to be sacrificed) τὸ (the) πάσχα (Passover)· 8 καὶ (And) ἀπέστειλεν (He sent) Πέτρον (Peter) καὶ (and) Ἰωάννην (John) εἰπών (having said)· Πορευθέντες (Having gone) ἑτοιμάσατε (prepare) ἡμῖν (for us) τὸ (the) πάσχα (Passover), ἵνα (that) φάγωμεν (we may eat).

9 Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπαν (they said) αὐτῷ (to Him)· Ποῦ (Where) θέλεις (do You want that) ἑτοιμάσωμεν (we should prepare it)?

10 Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Ἰδοὺ (Behold) εἰσελθόντων (having entered) ὑμῶν (of you⁺) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) πόλιν (city) συναντήσει (will meet) ὑμῖν (you⁺) ἄνθρωπος (a man) κεράμιον (a pitcher) ὕδατος (of water) βαστάζων (carrying)· ἀκολουθήσατε (follow) αὐτῷ (him) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) οἰκίαν (house) εἰς (into) ἣν (which) εἰσπορεύεται (he enters)· 11 καὶ (and) ἐρεῖτε (you⁺ will say) τῷ (to the) οἰκοδεσπότῃ (master) τῆς (of the) οἰκίας (house)· Λέγει (Says) σοι (to you) ὁ (the) Διδάσκαλος (Teacher)· Ποῦ (Where) ἐστιν (is) τὸ (the) κατάλυμα (guest room) ὅπου (where) τὸ (the) πάσχα (Passover) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) μαθητῶν (disciples) μου (of Me) φάγω (I may eat)? 12 κἀκεῖνος (And he) ὑμῖν (you⁺) δείξει (will show) ἀνάγαιον (an upper room) μέγα (large) ἐστρωμένον (furnished)· ἐκεῖ (there) ἑτοιμάσατε (Make preparations).

13 Ἀπελθόντες (Having gone) δὲ (then) εὗρον (they found it) καθὼς (as) εἰρήκει (He had said) αὐτοῖς (to them), καὶ (and) ἡτοίμασαν (they prepared) τὸ (the) πάσχα (Passover).

The Last Supper

14 Καὶ (And) ὅτε (when) ἐγένετο (was come) ἡ (the) ὥρα (hour), ἀνέπεσεν (He reclined), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ἀπόστολοι (apostles) σὺν (with) αὐτῷ (Him). 15 καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them)· Ἐπιθυμίᾳ (With desire) ἐπεθύμησα (I desired) τοῦτο (this) τὸ (-) πάσχα (Passover) φαγεῖν (to eat) μεθ’ (with) ὑμῶν (you⁺) πρὸ (before) τοῦ (-) με (I) παθεῖν (suffer)· 16 λέγω (I say) γὰρ (for) ὑμῖν (to you⁺) ὅτι (that) οὐκέτι (no longer) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) φάγω (will I eat) αὐτὸ (thereof) ἕως (until) ὅτου (when) πληρωθῇ (it is fulfilled) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) βασιλείᾳ (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God).

17 Καὶ (And) δεξάμενος (having received) ποτήριον (a cup) εὐχαριστήσας (having given thanks) εἶπεν (He said)· Λάβετε (Take) τοῦτο (this) καὶ (and) διαμερίσατε (divide it) εἰς (among) ἑαυτούς (yourselves)· 18 λέγω (I say) γὰρ (for) ὑμῖν (to you⁺), ὅτι (that) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) πίω (will I drink) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (-) νῦν (now) ἀπὸ (of) τοῦ (the) γενήματος (fruit) τῆς (of the) ἀμπέλου (vine) ἕως (until) οὗ (that) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἔλθῃ (shall come).

19 Καὶ (And) λαβὼν (having taken) ἄρτον (the bread) εὐχαριστήσας (having given thanks) ἔκλασεν (He broke it) καὶ (and) ἔδωκεν (gave) αὐτοῖς (to them) λέγων (saying)· Τοῦτό (This) ἐστιν (is) τὸ (the) σῶμά (body) μου (of Me) τὸ (which) ὑπὲρ (for) ὑμῶν (you⁺) διδόμενον (is given)· τοῦτο (this) ποιεῖτε (do) εἰς (in) τὴν (the) ἐμὴν (of Me) ἀνάμνησιν (remembrance). 20 καὶ (and) τὸ (the) ποτήριον (cup) ὡσαύτως (likewise) μετὰ (after) τὸ (the) δειπνῆσαι (supping), λέγων (saying)· Τοῦτο (This) τὸ (-) ποτήριον (cup is) ἡ (the) καινὴ (new) διαθήκη (covenant) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) αἵματί (blood) μου (of Me), τὸ (which) ὑπὲρ (for) ὑμῶν (you⁺) ἐκχυννόμενον (is being poured out).

21 Πλὴν (But) ἰδοὺ (behold) ἡ (the) χεὶρ (hand) τοῦ (of him) παραδιδόντος (betraying) με (Me) μετ’ (is with) ἐμοῦ (Me) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) τραπέζης (table). 22 ὅτι (For) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) μὲν (indeed) τοῦ (of) ἀνθρώπου (man) κατὰ (according to) τὸ (that) ὡρισμένον (having been determined) πορεύεται (goes), πλὴν (but) οὐαὶ (woe) τῷ (to the) ἀνθρώπῳ (man) ἐκείνῳ (that) δι’ (by) οὗ (whom) παραδίδοται (He is betrayed).

23 Καὶ (And) αὐτοὶ (they) ἤρξαντο (began) συζητεῖν (to question) πρὸς (among) ἑαυτοὺς (themselves) τὸ (-) τίς (who) ἄρα (then) εἴη (it might be) ἐξ (of) αὐτῶν (them) ὁ (who) τοῦτο (this) μέλλων (is about) πράσσειν (to do).

Who Is the Greatest?

24 Ἐγένετο (There was) δὲ (then) καὶ (also) φιλονεικία (a dispute) ἐν (among) αὐτοῖς (them), τὸ (-) τίς (which) αὐτῶν (of them) δοκεῖ (is thought) εἶναι (to be) μείζων (the greatest). 25 ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Οἱ (The) βασιλεῖς (kings) τῶν (of the) ἐθνῶν (Gentiles) κυριεύουσιν (rule over) αὐτῶν (them), καὶ (and) οἱ (those) ἐξουσιάζοντες (exercising authority over) αὐτῶν (them) εὐεργέται (benefactors) καλοῦνται (are called). 26 ὑμεῖς (You⁺) δὲ (however) οὐχ (not) οὕτως (thus shall be), ἀλλ’ (Rather) ὁ (the) μείζων (greatest) ἐν (among) ὑμῖν (you⁺) γινέσθω (let him be) ὡς (as) ὁ (the) νεώτερος (younger), καὶ (and) ὁ (the one) ἡγούμενος (leading) ὡς (as) ὁ (the one) διακονῶν (serving). 27 τίς (Who) γὰρ (for) μείζων (is greater), ὁ (the one) ἀνακείμενος (reclining) ἢ (or) ὁ (the one) διακονῶν (serving)? οὐχὶ (Is it not) ὁ (the one) ἀνακείμενος (reclining)? ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (however) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (the midst) ὑμῶν (of you⁺) εἰμι (am) ὡς (as) ὁ (the One) διακονῶν (serving).

28 Ὑμεῖς (You⁺) δέ (now) ἐστε (are) οἱ (those) διαμεμενηκότες (having remained) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (Me) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) πειρασμοῖς (trials) μου (of Me)· 29 κἀγὼ (And I) διατίθεμαι (appoint) ὑμῖν (to you⁺), καθὼς (as) διέθετό (appointed) μοι (to Me) ὁ (the) Πατήρ (Father) μου (of Me) βασιλείαν (a kingdom), 30 ἵνα (so that) ἔσθητε (you⁺ may eat) καὶ (and) πίνητε (may drink) ἐπὶ (at) τῆς (the) τραπέζης (table) μου (of Me) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) βασιλείᾳ (kingdom) μου (of Me), καὶ (and) καθήσεσθε (may sit) ἐπὶ (on) θρόνων (thrones) τὰς (the) δώδεκα (twelve) φυλὰς (tribes) κρίνοντες (judging) τοῦ (of) Ἰσραήλ (Israel).

Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial

31 Σίμων (Simon) Σίμων (Simon), ἰδοὺ (Behold) ὁ (-) Σατανᾶς (Satan) ἐξῃτήσατο (asked for) ὑμᾶς (all of you⁺) τοῦ (-) σινιάσαι (to sift) ὡς (like) τὸν (-) σῖτον (wheat)· 32 ἐγὼ (I) δὲ (however) ἐδεήθην (begged) περὶ (for) σοῦ (you) ἵνα (that) μὴ (not) ἐκλίπῃ (may fail) ἡ (the) πίστις (faith) σου (of you)· καὶ (and) σύ (you) ποτε (when) ἐπιστρέψας (you have turned back) στήρισον (strengthen) τοὺς (the) ἀδελφούς (brothers) σου (of you).

33 Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (he said) αὐτῷ (to Him)· Κύριε (Lord), μετὰ (with) σοῦ (You) ἕτοιμός (ready) εἰμι (I am) καὶ (both) εἰς (to) φυλακὴν (prison) καὶ (and) εἰς (to) θάνατον (death) πορεύεσθαι (to go).

34 Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) εἶπεν (He said)· Λέγω (I tell) σοι (you), Πέτρε (Peter), οὐ (not) φωνήσει (will crow) σήμερον (today) ἀλέκτωρ (the rooster) ἕως (until) τρίς (three times) με (Me) ἀπαρνήσῃ (you shall deny) μὴ (not) εἰδέναι (knowing).

35 Καὶ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Ὅτε (When) ἀπέστειλα (I sent) ὑμᾶς (you⁺) ἄτερ (without) βαλλαντίου (purse) καὶ (and) πήρας (bag) καὶ (and) ὑποδημάτων (sandals), μή (not) τινος (anything) ὑστερήσατε (did you⁺ lack)?

Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Ἱκανόν (Enough) ἐστιν (it is).

The Betrayal of Jesus

49 Ἰδόντες (Having seen) δὲ (then) οἱ (those) περὶ (around) αὐτὸν (Him) τὸ (what) ἐσόμενον (would be) εἶπαν (they said)· Κύριε (Lord), εἰ (if) πατάξομεν (will we strike) ἐν (with) μαχαίρῃ (the sword)? 50 καὶ (And) ἐπάταξεν (struck) εἷς (one) τις (a certain) ἐξ (of) αὐτῶν (them) τοῦ (of the) ἀρχιερέως (high priest) τὸν (the) δοῦλον (servant) καὶ (and) ἀφεῖλεν (cut off) τὸ (the) οὖς (ear) αὐτοῦ (his) τὸ (-) δεξιόν (right).

51 Ἀποκριθεὶς (Answering) δὲ (now) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said)· Ἐᾶτε (Permit you⁺) ἕως (as far as) τούτου (this)· καὶ (And) ἁψάμενος (having touched) τοῦ (the) ὠτίου (ear) ἰάσατο (He healed) αὐτόν (him).

Peter Denies Jesus

57 Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) ἠρνήσατο (he denied it) λέγων (saying)· Οὐκ (Not) οἶδα (I know) αὐτόν (Him), γύναι (woman).

58 Καὶ (And) μετὰ (after) βραχὺ (a little) ἕτερος (another) ἰδὼν (having seen) αὐτὸν (him) ἔφη (was saying)· Καὶ (Also) σὺ (you) ἐξ (of) αὐτῶν (them) εἶ (are).

Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) Πέτρος (Peter) ἔφη (was saying)· Ἄνθρωπε (Man), οὐκ (not) εἰμί (I am).

59 Καὶ (And) διαστάσης (on having elapsed) ὡσεὶ (about) ὥρας (hour) μιᾶς (one) ἄλλος (other) τις (a certain) διϊσχυρίζετο (strongly affirmed it) λέγων (saying)· Ἐπ’ (Of) ἀληθείας (a truth) καὶ (also) οὗτος (this one) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him) ἦν (was), καὶ (also) γὰρ (for) Γαλιλαῖός (a Galilean) ἐστιν (he is).

60 Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (however) ὁ (-) Πέτρος (Peter)· Ἄνθρωπε (Man), οὐκ (not) οἶδα (I know) ὃ (what) λέγεις (you say).

71 Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπαν (they said)· Τί (What) ἔτι (any more) ἔχομεν (do we have) μαρτυρίας (of testimony) χρείαν (need)? αὐτοὶ (We ourselves) γὰρ (for) ἠκούσαμεν (heard it) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the) στόματος (mouth) αὐτοῦ (of Him).
