Israel’s Sin
1 כֹּ֣ה׀ (Thus) אָמַ֣ר (says) יְהוָ֗ה (YHWH),
אֵ֣י (Where is) זֶ֠ה (this) סֵ֣פֶר (certificate) כְּרִית֤וּת (of divorce), אִמְּכֶם֙ (of your⁺ mother)
אֲשֶׁ֣ר (whom) שִׁלַּחְתִּ֔יהָ (I have sent away)?
א֚וֹ (Or) מִ֣י (which) מִנּוֹשַׁ֔י (of My creditors)
אֲשֶׁר־ (whom) מָכַ֥רְתִּי (did I sell) אֶתְכֶ֖ם (you⁺) ל֑וֹ (to him)
הֵ֤ן (behold), בַּעֲוֺנֹֽתֵיכֶם֙ (by your⁺ iniquities) נִמְכַּרְתֶּ֔ם (you⁺ have sold yourselves),
וּבְפִשְׁעֵיכֶ֖ם (and by your⁺ transgressions) שֻׁלְּחָ֥ה (has been sent away) אִמְּכֶֽם׃ (your⁺ mother).
2 מַדּ֨וּעַ (Why), בָּ֜אתִי (did I come), וְאֵ֣ין (and there was no) אִ֗ישׁ (man)?
קָרָֽאתִי֮ (Why did I call), וְאֵ֣ין (and there was no) עוֹנֶה֒ (one answering)?
הֲקָצ֨וֹר (Short) קָצְרָ֤ה (being shortened), יָדִי֙ (is My hand) מִפְּד֔וּת (to redeem)?
וְאִם־ (Or) אֵֽין־ (is there not) בִּ֥י (in Me) כֹ֖חַ (power) לְהַצִּ֑יל (to deliver)?
הֵ֣ן (Behold), בְּגַעֲרָתִ֞י (by My rebuke) אַחֲרִ֣יב (I dry up) יָ֗ם (the sea),
אָשִׂ֤ים (I make) נְהָרוֹת֙ (the rivers) מִדְבָּ֔ר (a desert);
תִּבְאַ֤שׁ (stink), דְּגָתָם֙ (their fish) מֵאֵ֣ין (for lack) מַ֔יִם (of water),
וְתָמֹ֖ת (and die) בַּצָּמָֽא׃ (of thirst).
3 אַלְבִּ֥ישׁ (I clothe) שָׁמַ֖יִם (the heavens) קַדְר֑וּת (with blackness),
וְשַׂ֖ק (and sackcloth) אָשִׂ֥ים (and I make) כְּסוּתָֽם׃ס (their covering).
The Servant’s Obedience
(Matthew 27:27–31; Mark 15:16–20; Luke 22:63–65; John 19:1–15)
4 אֲדֹנָ֣י (The Lord) יְהֹוִ֗ה (YHWH) נָ֤תַן (has given) לִי֙ (to me)
לְשׁ֣וֹן (the tongue) לִמּוּדִ֔ים (of the learned),
לָדַ֛עַת (so as to know how) לָע֥וּת (to answer) אֶת־ (-) יָעֵ֖ף (the weary); דָּבָ֑ר (with a word)
יָעִ֣יר׀ (He awakens me) בַּבֹּ֣קֶר (morning) בַּבֹּ֗קֶר (by morning),
יָעִ֥יר (He awakens) לִי֙ (for me) אֹ֔זֶן (the ear) לִשְׁמֹ֖עַ (to hear) כַּלִּמּוּדִֽים׃ (like the learned ones).
5 אֲדֹנָ֤י (The Lord) יְהוִה֙ (YHWH) פָּתַֽח־ (has opened) לִ֣י (for me) אֹ֔זֶן (the ear),
וְאָנֹכִ֖י (and I) לֹ֣א (not) מָרִ֑יתִי (have been rebellious),
אָח֖וֹר (back) לֹ֥א (not) נְסוּגֹֽתִי׃ (have I turned).
6 גֵּוִי֙ (My back) נָתַ֣תִּי (I gave) לְמַכִּ֔ים (to those striking),
וּלְחָיַ֖י (and My cheeks) לְמֹֽרְטִ֑ים (to those plucking out);
פָּנַי֙ (my face) לֹ֣א (not) הִסְתַּ֔רְתִּי (I hid) מִכְּלִמּ֖וֹת (from shame) וָרֹֽק׃ (and spitting).
7 וַאדֹנָ֤י (And the Lord) יְהוִה֙ (YHWH) יַֽעֲזָר־ (will give help) לִ֔י (to me)
עַל־ (upon) כֵּ֖ן (thus) לֹ֣א (not) נִכְלָ֑מְתִּי (I have been disgraced);
עַל־ (upon) כֵּ֞ן (thus) שַׂ֤מְתִּי (I have set) פָנַי֙ (my face) כַּֽחַלָּמִ֔ישׁ (like flint),
וָאֵדַ֖ע (and I know) כִּי־ (that) לֹ֥א (not) אֵבֽוֹשׁ׃ (will I be put to shame).
8 קָרוֹב֙ (Near is) מַצְדִּיקִ֔י (the One vindicating me)
מִֽי־ (who) יָרִ֥יב (will contend) אִתִּ֖י (with Me)
נַ֣עַמְדָה (let us stand) יָּ֑חַד (against one another);
מִֽי־ (who is) בַ֥עַל (the master) מִשְׁפָּטִ֖י (of my case)?
יִגַּ֥שׁ (Let him come near) אֵלָֽי׃ (to me).
9 הֵ֣ן (Behold), אֲדֹנָ֤י (the Lord) יְהוִה֙ (YHWH) יַֽעֲזָר־ (gives help) לִ֔י (to me)
מִי־ (who is) ה֖וּא (he) יַרְשִׁיעֵ֑נִי (who will condemn Me)
הֵ֤ן (behold), כֻּלָּם֙ (they all) כַּבֶּ֣גֶד (like a garment); יִבְל֔וּ (will wear out)
עָ֖שׁ (the moth) יֹאכְלֵֽם׃ (will devour them).
10 מִ֤י (Who) בָכֶם֙ (among you⁺) יְרֵ֣א (fears) יְהוָ֔ה (YHWH),
שֹׁמֵ֖עַ (listening) בְּק֣וֹל (to the voice) עַבְדּ֑וֹ (of His Servant),
אֲשֶׁ֣ר׀ (who) הָלַ֣ךְ (has walked) חֲשֵׁכִ֗ים (in darkness),
וְאֵ֥ין (and there is no) נֹ֙גַהּ֙ (no brightness)? ל֔וֹ (Unto him)
יִבְטַח֙ (let him trust) בְּשֵׁ֣ם (in the name) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH),
וְיִשָּׁעֵ֖ן (and lean) בֵּאלֹהָֽיו׃ (on his God).
11 הֵ֧ן (Behold), כֻּלְּכֶ֛ם (all of you⁺) קֹ֥דְחֵי (kindling) אֵ֖שׁ (a fire),
מְאַזְּרֵ֣י (girding on) זִיק֑וֹת (firebrands),
לְכ֣וּ׀ (walk) בְּא֣וּר (in the light) אֶשְׁכֶ֗ם (of your⁺ fire),
וּבְזִיקוֹת֙ (and of the firebrands) בִּֽעַרְתֶּ֔ם (you⁺ have kindled).
מִיָּדִי֙ (From My hand); הָיְתָה־ (is) זֹּ֣את (this) לָכֶ֔ם (for you⁺)
לְמַעֲצֵבָ֖ה (in a place of torment) תִּשְׁכָּבֽוּן׃פ (you⁺ will lie down).
