Salvation for Zion

1  שִׁמְע֥וּ (Listen) אֵלַ֛י (to Me) רֹ֥דְפֵי (O pursuers) צֶ֖דֶק (of righteousness),

מְבַקְשֵׁ֣י (you seekers) יְהוָ֑ה (YHWH);

הַבִּ֙יטוּ֙ (look) אֶל־ (to) צ֣וּר (the rock) חֻצַּבְתֶּ֔ם (from which you⁺ were hewn),

וְאֶל־ (and to) מַקֶּ֥בֶת (the hole) בּ֖וֹר (of the pit) נֻקַּרְתֶּֽם׃ (from which you⁺ were dug).

2  הַבִּ֙יטוּ֙ (Look) אֶל־ (to) אַבְרָהָ֣ם (Abraham) אֲבִיכֶ֔ם (your⁺ father),

וְאֶל־ (and to) שָׂרָ֖ה (Sarah) תְּחוֹלֶלְכֶ֑ם (who bore you⁺)

כִּי־ (for) אֶחָ֣ד (alone), קְרָאתִ֔יו (I called him)

וַאֲבָרְכֵ֖הוּ (and I blessed him) וְאַרְבֵּֽהוּ׃ס (and multiplied him).

3  כִּֽי־ (For) נִחַ֨ם (has comforted) יְהוָ֜ה (YHWH) צִיּ֗וֹן (Zion);

נִחַם֙ (He has comforted) כָּל־ (all) חָרְבֹתֶ֔יהָ (her ruins);

וַיָּ֤שֶׂם (and He will make) מִדְבָּרָהּ֙ (her wilderness) כְּעֵ֔דֶן (like Eden),

וְעַרְבָתָ֖הּ (and her desert plain) כְּגַן־ (like the garden) יְהוָ֑ה (of YHWH);

שָׂשׂ֤וֹן (Joy) וְשִׂמְחָה֙ (and gladness) יִמָּ֣צֵא (will be found) בָ֔הּ (in her)

תּוֹדָ֖ה (thanksgiving), וְק֥וֹל (and the voice) זִמְרָֽה׃ס (of song).

4  הַקְשִׁ֤יבוּ (Pay attention) אֵלַי֙ (to Me) עַמִּ֔י (My people);

וּלְאוּמִּ֖י (and My nation); אֵלַ֣י (to Me) הַאֲזִ֑ינוּ (give ear)

כִּ֤י (for) תוֹרָה֙ (a law) מֵאִתִּ֣י (from Me) תֵצֵ֔א (goes forth)

וּמִשְׁפָּטִ֔י (and My justice) לְא֥וֹר (as a light)

עַמִּ֖ים (to the nations) אַרְגִּֽיעַ׃ (I will make in an instant).

5  קָר֤וֹב (Near is); צִדְקִי֙ (My righteousness)

יָצָ֣א (has gone forth), יִשְׁעִ֔י (My salvation)

וּזְרֹעַ֖י (and My arms) עַמִּ֣ים (the nations); יִשְׁפֹּ֑טוּ (will judge)

אֵלַי֙ (for me) אִיִּ֣ים (the islands) יְקַוּ֔וּ (will wait)

וְאֶל־ (and on) זְרֹעִ֖י (My arm) יְיַחֵלֽוּן׃ (they will wait in hope).

6  שְׂאוּ֩ (Lift up) לַשָּׁמַ֨יִם (to the heavens), עֵֽינֵיכֶ֜ם (your⁺ eyes)

וְֽהַבִּ֧יטוּ (and look) אֶל־ (to) הָאָ֣רֶץ (the earth) מִתַּ֗חַת (beneath);

כִּֽי־ (for) שָׁמַ֜יִם (the heavens) כֶּעָשָׁ֤ן (like smoke), נִמְלָ֙חוּ֙ (will vanish)

וְהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ (and the earth) כַּבֶּ֣גֶד (like a garment), תִּבְלֶ֔ה (will wear out)

וְיֹשְׁבֶ֖יהָ (and its inhabitants) כְּמוֹ־ (like) כֵ֣ן (gnat); יְמוּת֑וּן (will die)

וִישֽׁוּעָתִי֙ (and My salvation) לְעוֹלָ֣ם (forever), תִּֽהְיֶ֔ה (will be)

וְצִדְקָתִ֖י (and My righteousness) לֹ֥א (not) תֵחָֽת׃ס (will be broken).

7  שִׁמְע֤וּ (Listen) אֵלַי֙ (to Me) יֹ֣דְעֵי (O knowers) צֶ֔דֶק (of righteousness),

עַ֖ם (people) תּוֹרָתִ֣י (with My law); בְלִבָּ֑ם (in their heart)

אַל־ (not) תִּֽירְאוּ֙ (do fear) חֶרְפַּ֣ת (the scorn) אֱנ֔וֹשׁ (of men),

וּמִגִּדֻּפֹתָ֖ם (and from their cutting words) אַל־ (not) תֵּחָֽתּוּ׃ (be broken).

8  כִּ֤י (For) כַבֶּ֙גֶד֙ (like a garment), יֹאכְלֵ֣ם (will devour them) עָ֔שׁ (the moth)

וְכַצֶּ֖מֶר (and like wool). יֹאכְלֵ֣ם (Will devour them) סָ֑ס (the worm)

וְצִדְקָתִי֙ (and My righteousness) לְעוֹלָ֣ם (forever), תִּֽהְיֶ֔ה (will be)

וִישׁוּעָתִ֖י (and My salvation) לְד֥וֹר (for generation) דּוֹרִֽים׃ס (and generations).

9  עוּרִ֨י (Awake) עוּרִ֤י (awake),

לִבְשִׁי־ (put on) עֹז֙ (strength), זְר֣וֹעַ (O arm) יְהוָ֔ה (of YHWH)

ע֚וּרִי (Awake), כִּ֣ימֵי (as in the days), קֶ֔דֶם (of old)

דֹּר֖וֹת (the generations) עוֹלָמִ֑ים (of old).

הֲל֥וֹא (Not) אַתְּ־ (You) הִ֛יא (was it) הַמַּחְצֶ֥בֶת (cutting apart) רַ֖הַב (Rahab)

מְחוֹלֶ֥לֶת (and piercing through) תַּנִּֽין׃ (the dragon)?

10  הֲל֤וֹא (Not) אַתְּ־ (You) הִיא֙ (was it) הַמַּחֲרֶ֣בֶת (drying up) יָ֔ם (the Sea),

מֵ֖י (the waters) תְּה֣וֹם (deep); רַבָּ֑ה (great)

הַשָּׂ֙מָה֙ (who has made) מַֽעֲמַקֵּי־ (the depths) יָ֔ם (of the sea) דֶּ֖רֶךְ (as a pathway)

לַעֲבֹ֥ר (to pass over) גְּאוּלִֽים׃ (for the redeemed)?

11  וּפְדוּיֵ֨י (And the ransomed) יְהוָ֜ה (of YHWH) יְשׁוּב֗וּן (will return),

וּבָ֤אוּ (and they will come) צִיּוֹן֙ (to Zion); בְּרִנָּ֔ה (with singing)

וְשִׂמְחַ֥ת (and with gladness) עוֹלָ֖ם (everlasting) עַל־ (on) רֹאשָׁ֑ם (their heads).

שָׂשׂ֤וֹן (Gladness) וְשִׂמְחָה֙ (and joy); יַשִּׂיג֔וּן (will overtake them)

נָ֖סוּ (will flee). יָג֥וֹן (Sorrow) וַאֲנָחָֽה׃ס (and sighing).

12  אָנֹכִ֧י (I) אָנֹכִ֛י (I), ה֖וּא (am He) מְנַחֶמְכֶ֑ם (the One comforting you⁺)

מִֽי־ (who are) אַ֤תְּ (you), וַתִּֽירְאִי֙ (that you should be afraid) מֵאֱנ֣וֹשׁ (of a man) יָמ֔וּת (he will die),

וּמִבֶּן־ (and of son) אָדָ֖ם (of man) חָצִ֥יר (as grass); יִנָּתֵֽן׃ (he will be set).

13  וַתִּשְׁכַּ֞ח (And you forget) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) עֹשֶׂ֗ךָ (your Maker),

נוֹטֶ֣ה (the One stretching out) שָׁמַיִם֮ (the heavens),

וְיֹסֵ֣ד (and laying the foundations of) אָרֶץ֒ (the earth);

וַתְּפַחֵ֨ד (and you are in dread) תָּמִ֜יד (continually) כָּל־ (all) הַיּ֗וֹם (the day)

מִפְּנֵי֙ (from the face) חֲמַ֣ת (of the rage) הַמֵּצִ֔יק (of the one oppressing),

כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר (who) כּוֹנֵ֖ן (is prepared) לְהַשְׁחִ֑ית (to destroy)?

וְאַיֵּ֖ה (And where is) חֲמַ֥ת (the rage) הַמֵּצִֽיק׃ (of the oppressor)?

14  מִהַ֥ר (Hastens) צֹעֶ֖ה (the one crouching) לְהִפָּתֵ֑חַ (to be released),

וְלֹא־ (that not) יָמ֣וּת (he should die) לַשַּׁ֔חַת (in the pit),

וְלֹ֥א (not) יֶחְסַ֖ר (should be lacking) לַחְמֽוֹ׃ (his bread).

15  וְאָֽנֹכִי֙ (And I am) יְהוָ֣ה (YHWH) אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ (your God),

רֹגַ֣ע (the One disturbing) הַיָּ֔ם (the sea), וַיֶּהֱמ֖וּ (so that roar); גַּלָּ֑יו (its waves)

יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH of) צְבָא֖וֹת (Hosts) שְׁמֽוֹ׃ (is His name).

16  וָאָשִׂ֤ים (And I have put) דְּבָרַי֙ (My words) בְּפִ֔יךָ (in your mouth),

וּבְצֵ֥ל (and with the shadow) יָדִ֖י (of My hand), כִּסִּיתִ֑יךָ (I have covered you)

לִנְטֹ֤עַ (to plant) שָׁמַ֙יִם֙ (the heavens), וְלִיסֹ֣ד (and to lay the foundations of) אָ֔רֶץ (the earth),

וְלֵאמֹ֥ר (and to say) לְצִיּ֖וֹן (to Zion), עַמִּי־ (My people) אָֽתָּה׃ס (you are).

God’s Fury Removed

17  הִתְעוֹרְרִ֣י (Awake), הִֽתְעוֹרְרִ֗י (awake)!

ק֚וּמִי (Rise up), יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם (O Jerusalem),

אֲשֶׁ֥ר (who) שָׁתִ֛ית (you have drunk) מִיַּ֥ד (from the hand) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) אֶת־ (-)

כּ֣וֹס (the cup) חֲמָת֑וֹ (of His anger); אֶת־ (-)

קֻבַּ֜עַת (the goblet) כּ֧וֹס (the cup) הַתַּרְעֵלָ֛ה (of reeling),

שָׁתִ֖ית (you have drunk) מָצִֽית׃ (you drained it).

18  אֵין־ (There is not) מְנַהֵ֣ל (one guiding) לָ֔הּ (her)

מִכָּל־ (among all) בָּנִ֖ים (the sons) יָלָ֑דָה (she has borne);

וְאֵ֤ין (and there is no one) מַחֲזִיק֙ (to take) בְּיָדָ֔הּ (her hand)

מִכָּל־ (among all) בָּנִ֖ים (the sons) גִּדֵּֽלָה׃ (she has brought up).

19  שְׁתַּ֤יִם (Two things) הֵ֙נָּה֙ (these) קֹֽרְאֹתַ֔יִךְ (are meeting you)

מִ֖י (who) יָנ֣וּד (will grieve) לָ֑ךְ (for you)

הַשֹּׁ֧ד (The devastation), וְהַשֶּׁ֛בֶר (and the destruction),

וְהָרָעָ֥ב (and the famine), וְהַחֶ֖רֶב (and the sword);

מִ֥י (how) אֲנַחֲמֵֽךְ׃ (can I comfort you).

20  בָּנַ֜יִךְ (Your sons) עֻלְּפ֥וּ (have fainted),

שָׁכְב֛וּ (they lie) בְּרֹ֥אשׁ (at the head) כָּל־ (of all) חוּצ֖וֹת (the streets),

כְּת֣וֹא (like an antelope) מִכְמָ֑ר (in a net),

הַֽמְלֵאִ֥ים (being full of) חֲמַת־ (the rage) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH),

גַּעֲרַ֥ת (the rebuke) אֱלֹהָֽיִךְ׃ (of your God).

21  לָכֵ֛ן (Therefore) שִׁמְעִי־ (hear) נָ֥א (now) זֹ֖את (this),

עֲנִיָּ֑ה (O afflicted), וּשְׁכֻרַ֖ת (and drunk), וְלֹ֥א (and not) מִיָּֽיִן׃ס (with wine);

22  כֹּֽה־ (thus) אָמַ֞ר (says) אֲדֹנַ֣יִךְ (your Lord) יְהוָ֗ה (YHWH),

וֵאלֹהַ֙יִךְ֙ (and your God) יָרִ֣יב (contending for) עַמּ֔וֹ (His people),

הִנֵּ֥ה (Behold), לָקַ֛חְתִּי (I have taken) מִיָּדֵ֖ךְ (from your hand) אֶת־ (-)

כּ֣וֹס (the cup) הַתַּרְעֵלָ֑ה (of reeling), אֶת־ (-)

קֻבַּ֙עַת֙ (the goblet) כּ֣וֹס (the cup) חֲמָתִ֔י (of My fury);

לֹא־ (not) תוֹסִ֥יפִי (will you continue) לִשְׁתּוֹתָ֖הּ (to drink it) עֽוֹד׃ (anymore);

23  וְשַׂמְתִּ֙יהָ֙ (and I will put it) בְּיַד־ (into the hand) מוֹגַ֔יִךְ (of those afflicting you)

אֲשֶׁר־ (who) אָמְר֥וּ (said) לְנַפְשֵׁ֖ךְ (to you), שְׁחִ֣י (Lie down), וְנַעֲבֹ֑רָה (that we may walk over you);

וַתָּשִׂ֤ימִי (and you set) כָאָ֙רֶץ֙ (like the ground), גֵּוֵ֔ךְ (your back)

וְכַח֖וּץ (and like the street), לַעֹבְרִֽים׃ס (for walking over).
