The Feeding of the Five Thousand
(Matthew 14:13–21; Mark 6:30–44; Luke 9:10–17)
1 Μετὰ (After) ταῦτα (these things) ἀπῆλθεν (went away) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) πέραν (to the other side) τῆς (of the) θαλάσσης (Sea) τῆς (-) Γαλιλαίας (of Galilee) τῆς (-) Τιβεριάδος (of Tiberias).
2 ἠκολούθει (Was following) δὲ (now) αὐτῷ (Him) ὄχλος (a crowd) πολύς (great), ὅτι (because) ἐθεώρουν (they were seeing) τὰ (the) σημεῖα (signs) ἃ (that) ἐποίει (He was doing) ἐπὶ (upon) τῶν (the) ἀσθενούντων (ailing).
3 ἀνῆλθεν (Went up) δὲ (now) εἰς (on) τὸ (the) ὄρος (mountain) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), καὶ (and) ἐκεῖ (there) ἐκάθητο (He was sitting) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) μαθητῶν (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him).
4 Ἦν (Was) δὲ (now) ἐγγὺς (near) τὸ (the) πάσχα (Passover), ἡ (the) ἑορτὴ (feast) τῶν (of the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews).
5 ἐπάρας (Having lifted up) οὖν (then) τοὺς (the) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) θεασάμενος (having seen) ὅτι (that) πολὺς (a great) ὄχλος (crowd) ἔρχεται (is coming) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (Him), λέγει (He says) πρὸς (to) Φίλιππον (Philip)· Πόθεν (From where) ἀγοράσωμεν (shall we buy) ἄρτους (bread) ἵνα (so that) φάγωσιν (might eat) οὗτοι (these)?
6 τοῦτο (This) δὲ (now) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) πειράζων (testing) αὐτόν (him)· αὐτὸς (He) γὰρ (for) ᾔδει (knew) τί (what) ἔμελλεν (He was about) ποιεῖν (to do).
7 Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) αὐτῷ (Him) ὁ (-) Φίλιππος (Philip)· Διακοσίων (Two hundred) δηναρίων (denarii) ἄρτοι (of loaves) οὐκ (not) ἀρκοῦσιν (are sufficient) αὐτοῖς (for them), ἵνα (that) ἕκαστος (each) βραχύ (little piece) τι (some) λάβῃ (might receive).
8 Λέγει (Says) αὐτῷ (to Him) εἷς (one) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) μαθητῶν (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), Ἀνδρέας (Andrew) ὁ (the) ἀδελφὸς (brother) Σίμωνος (of Simon) Πέτρου (Peter)·
9 Ἔστιν (Is) παιδάριον (a little boy) ὧδε (here) ὃς (who) ἔχει (has) πέντε (five) ἄρτους (loaves) κριθίνους (barley) καὶ (and) δύο (two) ὀψάρια (small fish)· ἀλλὰ (but) ταῦτα (these) τί (what) ἐστιν (are) εἰς (for) τοσούτους (so many)?
10 Εἶπεν (Said) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus)· Ποιήσατε (Make) τοὺς (the) ἀνθρώπους (men) ἀναπεσεῖν (to recline). ἦν (There was) δὲ (now) χόρτος (grass) πολὺς (much) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) τόπῳ (place). ἀνέπεσαν (Reclined) οὖν (therefore) οἱ (the) ἄνδρες (men) τὸν (the) ἀριθμὸν (number) ὡς (about) πεντακισχίλιοι (five thousand).
11 Ἔλαβεν (Took) οὖν (then) τοὺς (the) ἄρτους (loaves) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) εὐχαριστήσας (having given thanks) διέδωκεν (He distributed) τοῖς (to those) ἀνακειμένοις (reclining), ὁμοίως (likewise) καὶ (also) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) ὀψαρίων (small fish) ὅσον (as much as) ἤθελον (they were wanting).
12 Ὡς (When) δὲ (now) ἐνεπλήσθησαν (they were filled), λέγει (He says) τοῖς (to the) μαθηταῖς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him)· Συναγάγετε (Gather together) τὰ (the) περισσεύσαντα (having superabounded) κλάσματα (fragments), ἵνα (so that) μή (not) τι (anything) ἀπόληται (may be lost).
13 συνήγαγον (They gathered together) οὖν (therefore), καὶ (and) ἐγέμισαν (filled) δώδεκα (twelve) κοφίνους (hand-baskets) κλασμάτων (of fragments) ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) πέντε (five) ἄρτων (loaves) τῶν (-) κριθίνων (barley) ἃ (that) ἐπερίσσευσαν (superabounded) τοῖς (to those) βεβρωκόσιν (having eaten).
14 Οἱ (The) οὖν (therefore) ἄνθρωποι (men) ἰδόντες (having seen) ὃ (what) ἐποίησεν (He did) σημεῖον (sign) ἔλεγον (were saying) ὅτι (-) Οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ἀληθῶς (truly) ὁ (the) προφήτης (Prophet) ὁ (who) ἐρχόμενος (is coming) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόσμον (world).
15 Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) οὖν (therefore) γνοὺς (having known) ὅτι (that) μέλλουσιν (they are about) ἔρχεσθαι (to come) καὶ (and) ἁρπάζειν (to seize) αὐτὸν (Him) ἵνα (so that) ποιήσωσιν (they might make Him) βασιλέα (king), ἀνεχώρησεν (withdrew) πάλιν (again) εἰς (to) τὸ (the) ὄρος (mountain) αὐτὸς (Himself) μόνος (alone).

16 Ὡς (As) δὲ (now) ὀψία (evening) ἐγένετο (it became), κατέβησαν (went down) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐπὶ (to) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea),
17 καὶ (and) ἐμβάντες (having entered) εἰς (into) πλοῖον (a boat) ἤρχοντο (they were going) πέραν (to the other side) τῆς (of the) θαλάσσης (sea) εἰς (to) Καφαρναούμ (Capernaum). καὶ (And) σκοτία (darkness) ἤδη (already) ἐγεγόνει (had come) καὶ (and) οὔπω (not yet) ἐληλύθει (had come) πρὸς (to) αὐτοὺς (them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus),
18 ἥ (-) τε (And) θάλασσα (the sea) ἀνέμου (by a wind) μεγάλου (great) πνέοντος (blowing) διεγείρετο (was agitated).
19 Ἐληλακότες (Having rowed) οὖν (therefore) ὡς (about) σταδίους (stadia) εἴκοσι (twenty) πέντε (five) ἢ (or) τριάκοντα (thirty) θεωροῦσιν (they see) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus) περιπατοῦντα (walking) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) θαλάσσης (sea) καὶ (and) ἐγγὺς (near) τοῦ (the) πλοίου (boat) γινόμενον (coming), καὶ (and) ἐφοβήθησαν (they were afraid).
20 ὁ (-) δὲ (But) λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am He), μὴ (Not) φοβεῖσθε (do fear).
21 ἤθελον (They were willing) οὖν (then) λαβεῖν (to take) αὐτὸν (Him) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) πλοῖον (boat), καὶ (and) εὐθέως (immediately) ἐγένετο (was) τὸ (the) πλοῖον (boat) ἐπὶ (at) τῆς (the) γῆς (land) εἰς (to) ἣν (which) ὑπῆγον (they were going).

22 Τῇ (On the) ἐπαύριον (next day) ὁ (the) ὄχλος (crowd) ὁ (-) ἑστηκὼς (was standing) πέραν (on the other side) τῆς (of the) θαλάσσης (sea) εἶδον (having seen) ὅτι (that) πλοιάριον (boat) ἄλλο (other) οὐκ (no) ἦν (was) ἐκεῖ (there) εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ἕν (one), καὶ (and) ὅτι (that) οὐ (not) συνεισῆλθεν (went with) τοῖς (the) μαθηταῖς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) πλοῖον (boat) ἀλλὰ (but) μόνοι (alone) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἀπῆλθον (went away)·
23 ἀλλὰ (But) ἦλθεν (came) πλοιάρια (boats) ἐκ (from) Τιβεριάδος (Tiberias) ἐγγὺς (near) τοῦ (the) τόπου (place) ὅπου (where) ἔφαγον (they ate) τὸν (the) ἄρτον (bread) εὐχαριστήσαντος (the having given thanks) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord).
24 ὅτε (When) οὖν (Therefore) εἶδεν (saw) ὁ (the) ὄχλος (crowd) ὅτι (that) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) ἐκεῖ (there) οὐδὲ (nor) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἐνέβησαν (they entered) αὐτοὶ (themselves) εἰς (into) τὰ (the) πλοιάρια (boats) καὶ (and) ἦλθον (went) εἰς (to) Καφαρναοὺμ (Capernaum) ζητοῦντες (seeking) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus).
25 καὶ (And) εὑρόντες (having found) αὐτὸν (Him) πέραν (on the other side) τῆς (of the) θαλάσσης (sea) εἶπον (they said) αὐτῷ (to Him)· Ῥαββί (Rabbi), πότε (when) ὧδε (here) γέγονας (have You come)?
26 Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) αὐτοῖς (them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said)· Ἀμὴν (Truly) ἀμὴν (truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you⁺), ζητεῖτέ (you⁺ seek) με (Me) οὐχ (not) ὅτι (because) εἴδετε (you⁺ saw) σημεῖα (signs), ἀλλ’ (but) ὅτι (because) ἐφάγετε (you⁺ ate) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) ἄρτων (loaves) καὶ (and) ἐχορτάσθητε (were satisfied).
27 ἐργάζεσθε (Work) μὴ (not for) τὴν (the) βρῶσιν (food) τὴν (that) ἀπολλυμένην (is perishing), ἀλλὰ (but for) τὴν (the) βρῶσιν (food) τὴν (-) μένουσαν (remaining) εἰς (unto) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal), ἣν (which) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ὑμῖν (to you⁺) δώσει (will give)· τοῦτον (Him) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ἐσφράγισεν (sealed) ὁ (-) Θεός (God).
28 Εἶπον (They said) οὖν (therefore) πρὸς (to) αὐτόν (Him)· Τί (What) ποιῶμεν (may we do) ἵνα (that) ἐργαζώμεθα (we may work) τὰ (the) ἔργα (works) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God)?
29 Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Τοῦτό (This) ἐστιν (is) τὸ (the) ἔργον (work) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), ἵνα (that) πιστεύητε (you⁺ should believe) εἰς (in) ὃν (Him whom) ἀπέστειλεν (sent) ἐκεῖνος (He).
30 Εἶπον (They said) οὖν (therefore) αὐτῷ (to Him)· Τί (What) οὖν (then) ποιεῖς (do) σὺ (You) σημεῖον (as a sign), ἵνα (so that) ἴδωμεν (we may see) καὶ (and) πιστεύσωμέν (may believe) σοι (You)? τί (What) ἐργάζῃ (do You work)?
31 οἱ (The) πατέρες (fathers) ἡμῶν (of us) τὸ (the) μάννα (manna) ἔφαγον (ate) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἐρήμῳ (wilderness), καθώς (as) ἐστιν (it is) γεγραμμένον (written)· Ἄρτον (Bread) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) ἔδωκεν (He gave) αὐτοῖς (them) φαγεῖν (to eat).
32 Εἶπεν (Said) οὖν (therefore) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus)· Ἀμὴν (Truly) ἀμὴν (truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you⁺), οὐ (not) Μωϋσῆς (Moses) δέδωκεν (has given) ὑμῖν (you⁺) τὸν (the) ἄρτον (bread) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), ἀλλ’ (but) ὁ (the) Πατήρ (Father) μου (of Me) δίδωσιν (gives) ὑμῖν (you⁺) τὸν (the) ἄρτον (bread) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) τὸν (-) ἀληθινόν (true)·
33 ὁ (The) γὰρ (for) ἄρτος (bread) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the One) καταβαίνων (coming down) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) καὶ (and) ζωὴν (life) διδοὺς (giving) τῷ (to the) κόσμῳ (world).
34 Εἶπον (They said) οὖν (therefore) πρὸς (to) αὐτόν (Him)· Κύριε (Sir), πάντοτε (always) δὸς (give) ἡμῖν (us) τὸν (the) ἄρτον (bread) τοῦτον (this).
35 Εἶπεν (Said) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus)· Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) ὁ (the) ἄρτος (bread) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life)· ὁ (the one) ἐρχόμενος (coming) πρὸς (to) ἐμὲ (Me) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) πεινάσῃ (shall hunger), καὶ (and) ὁ (the one) πιστεύων (believing) εἰς (in) ἐμὲ (Me) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) διψήσει (will thirst) πώποτε (at any time).
36 ἀλλ’ (But) εἶπον (I said) ὑμῖν (to you⁺) ὅτι (that) καὶ (also) ἑωράκατέ (you⁺ have seen) με (Me) καὶ (and) οὐ (not) πιστεύετε (you⁺ believe).
37 Πᾶν (All) ὃ (that) δίδωσίν (gives) μοι (Me) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) πρὸς (to) ἐμὲ (Me) ἥξει (will come), καὶ (and) τὸν (the one) ἐρχόμενον (coming) πρός (to) με (Me) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ἐκβάλω (shall I cast) ἔξω (out),
38 ὅτι (For) καταβέβηκα (I have come down) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) οὐχ (not) ἵνα (so that) ποιῶ (I may do) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τὸ (-) ἐμὸν (of Me) ἀλλὰ (but) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (of the One) πέμψαντός (having sent) με (Me).
39 Τοῦτο (This) δέ (now) ἐστιν (is) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (of the One) πέμψαντός (having sent) με (Me), ἵνα (that) πᾶν (all) ὃ (that) δέδωκέν (He has given) μοι (Me) μὴ (none) ἀπολέσω (I should lose) ἐξ (of) αὐτοῦ (it), ἀλλὰ (but) ἀναστήσω (I will raise up) αὐτὸ (it) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἐσχάτῃ (last) ἡμέρᾳ (day).
40 τοῦτο (This) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (is) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (of the) Πατρός (Father) μου (of Me), ἵνα (that) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) θεωρῶν (beholding) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) καὶ (and) πιστεύων (believing) εἰς (in) αὐτὸν (Him) ἔχῃ (may have) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal), καὶ (and) ἀναστήσω (will raise up) αὐτὸν (him) ἐγὼ (I) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἐσχάτῃ (last) ἡμέρᾳ (day).
41 Ἐγόγγυζον (Were grumbling) οὖν (therefore) οἱ (the) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews) περὶ (about) αὐτοῦ (Him) ὅτι (because) εἶπεν (He said)· Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) ὁ (the) ἄρτος (bread) ὁ (-) καταβὰς (having come down) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven),
42 καὶ (And) ἔλεγον (they were saying)· Οὐχ (Not) οὗτός (this) ἐστιν (is) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ὁ (the) υἱὸς (son) Ἰωσήφ (of Joseph), οὗ (of whom) ἡμεῖς (we) οἴδαμεν (know) τὸν (the) πατέρα (father) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) μητέρα (mother)? πῶς (How) νῦν (then) λέγει (does He say) ὅτι (-) Ἐκ (Out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) καταβέβηκα (I have come down)?
43 Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Μὴ (Not) γογγύζετε (grumble) μετ’ (with) ἀλλήλων (one another).
44 οὐδεὶς (No one) δύναται (is able) ἐλθεῖν (to come) πρός (to) με (Me) ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ὁ (the One) πέμψας (having sent) με (Me) ἑλκύσῃ (should draw) αὐτόν (him), κἀγὼ (and I) ἀναστήσω (will raise up) αὐτὸν (him) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἐσχάτῃ (last) ἡμέρᾳ (day).
45 ἔστιν (It is) γεγραμμένον (written) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) προφήταις (Prophets)· Καὶ (And) ἔσονται (they will be) πάντες (all) διδακτοὶ (taught) Θεοῦ (of God)· πᾶς (Everyone) ὁ (-) ἀκούσας (having heard) παρὰ (from) τοῦ (the) Πατρὸς (Father) καὶ (and) μαθὼν (having learned) ἔρχεται (comes) πρὸς (to) ἐμέ (Me).
46 οὐχ (Not) ὅτι (that) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father) ἑώρακέν (has seen) τις (anyone), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) ὁ (the One) ὢν (being) παρὰ (from) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (God), οὗτος (He) ἑώρακεν (has seen) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father).
47 Ἀμὴν (Truly) ἀμὴν (truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you⁺), ὁ (the one) πιστεύων (believing) ἔχει (has) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal).
48 ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) ὁ (the) ἄρτος (bread) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life).
49 οἱ (The) πατέρες (fathers) ὑμῶν (of You⁺) ἔφαγον (ate) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἐρήμῳ (wilderness) τὸ (the) μάννα (manna) καὶ (and) ἀπέθανον (they died)·
50 οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) ἄρτος (bread) ὁ (-) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) καταβαίνων (coming down), ἵνα (so that) τις (anyone) ἐξ (of) αὐτοῦ (it) φάγῃ (may eat) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) ἀποθάνῃ (die).
51 ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) ὁ (the) ἄρτος (bread) ὁ (-) ζῶν (living) ὁ (-) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) καταβάς (having come down)· ἐάν (if) τις (anyone) φάγῃ (shall eat) ἐκ (of) τούτου (this) τοῦ (-) ἄρτου (bread), ζήσει (he will live) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα (age)· καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ἄρτος (bread) δὲ (also) ὃν (that) ἐγὼ (I) δώσω (will give) ἡ (the) σάρξ (flesh) μού (of Me) ἐστιν (is) ὑπὲρ (for) τῆς (the) τοῦ (of the) κόσμου (world) ζωῆς (life).
52 Ἐμάχοντο (Were arguing) οὖν (therefore) πρὸς (with) ἀλλήλους (one another) οἱ (the) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews) λέγοντες (saying)· Πῶς (How) δύναται (is able) οὗτος (this Oan) ἡμῖν (us) δοῦναι (to give) τὴν (the) σάρκα (flesh) αὐτοῦ (of Him) φαγεῖν (to eat)?
53 Εἶπεν (Said) οὖν (therefore) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus)· Ἀμὴν (Truly) ἀμὴν (truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you⁺), ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) φάγητε (you⁺ shall eat) τὴν (the) σάρκα (flesh) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) καὶ (and) πίητε (shall drink) αὐτοῦ (of Him) τὸ (the) αἷμα (blood), οὐκ (not) ἔχετε (you⁺ have) ζωὴν (life) ἐν (in) ἑαυτοῖς (yourselves).
54 ὁ (The one) τρώγων (eating) μου (of Me) τὴν (the) σάρκα (flesh) καὶ (and) πίνων (drinking) μου (of Me) τὸ (the) αἷμα (blood) ἔχει (has) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal), κἀγὼ (and I) ἀναστήσω (will raise up) αὐτὸν (him) τῇ (in the) ἐσχάτῃ (last) ἡμέρᾳ (day).
55 ἡ (The) γὰρ (for) σάρξ (flesh) μου (of Me) ἀληθής (true) ἐστιν (is) βρῶσις (food), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) αἷμά (blood) μου (of Me) ἀληθής (true) ἐστιν (is) πόσις (drink).
56 Ὁ (The one) τρώγων (eating) μου (of Me) τὴν (the) σάρκα (flesh) καὶ (and) πίνων (drinking) μου (of Me) τὸ (the) αἷμα (blood) ἐν (in) ἐμοὶ (Me) μένει (remains) κἀγὼ (and I) ἐν (in) αὐτῷ (him).
57 καθὼς (Just as) ἀπέστειλέν (sent) με (Me) ὁ (the) ζῶν (living) Πατὴρ (Father) κἀγὼ (and I) ζῶ (live) διὰ (because of) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father), καὶ (also) ὁ (the one) τρώγων (feeding on) με (Me) κἀκεῖνος (he also) ζήσει (will live) δι’ (because of) ἐμέ (Me).
58 οὗτός (This) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) ἄρτος (bread) ὁ (-) ἐξ (out of) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) καταβάς (having come down), οὐ (not) καθὼς (as) ἔφαγον (ate) οἱ (the) πατέρες (fathers) καὶ (and) ἀπέθανον (died)· ὁ (The one) τρώγων (eating) τοῦτον (this) τὸν (-) ἄρτον (bread) ζήσει (will live) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα (age).

63 Τὸ (The) πνεῦμά (Spirit) ἐστιν (it is) τὸ (-) ζωοποιοῦν (making alive), ἡ (the) σὰρξ (flesh) οὐκ (not) ὠφελεῖ (profits) οὐδέν (nothing)· τὰ (The) ῥήματα (words) ἃ (that) ἐγὼ (I) λελάληκα (have spoken) ὑμῖν (to you⁺) πνεῦμά (spirit) ἐστιν (are) καὶ (and) ζωή (life) ἐστιν (they are).
64 ἀλλ’ (But) εἰσὶν (there are) ἐξ (of) ὑμῶν (you⁺) τινες (some) οἳ (who) οὐ (not) πιστεύουσιν (believe). ᾔδει (Had known) γὰρ (for) ἐξ (from) ἀρχῆς (the beginning) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) τίνες (who) εἰσὶν (are) οἱ (those) μὴ (not) πιστεύοντες (believing) καὶ (and) τίς (who) ἐστιν (it is) ὁ (who) παραδώσων (will betray) αὐτόν (Him).
65 Καὶ (And) ἔλεγεν (He was saying)· Διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this) εἴρηκα (I have said) ὑμῖν (to you⁺) ὅτι (that) οὐδεὶς (no one) δύναται (is able) ἐλθεῖν (to come) πρός (to) με (Me) ἐὰν (if) μὴ (not) ᾖ (it shall) δεδομένον (have been given) αὐτῷ (to him) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (the) Πατρός (Father).
66 Ἐκ (From) τούτου (this time) πολλοὶ (many) ἐκ (out of) τῶν (the) μαθητῶν (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἀπῆλθον (went away) εἰς (to) τὰ (the) ὀπίσω (back) καὶ (and) οὐκέτι (no longer) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him) περιεπάτουν (were walking).
