1 Μετὰ (After) ταῦτα (these things) ἦν (there was) ἑορτὴ (a feast) τῶν (of the) Ἰουδαίων (Jews), καὶ (and) ἀνέβη (went up) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἰς (to) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem).
2 Ἔστιν (There is) δὲ (now) ἐν (in) τοῖς (-) Ἱεροσολύμοις (Jerusalem) ἐπὶ (by) τῇ (the) προβατικῇ (Sheep Gate) κολυμβήθρα (a pool), ἡ (-) ἐπιλεγομένη (called) Ἑβραϊστὶ (in Hebrew) Βηθεσδά (Bethesda), πέντε (five) στοὰς (porches) ἔχουσα (having).
3 ἐν (In) ταύταις (these) κατέκειτο (were lying) πλῆθος (a multitude) τῶν (of those) ἀσθενούντων (ailing), τυφλῶν (blind), χωλῶν (lame), ξηρῶν (and withered),
5 Ἦν (Was) δέ (now) τις (a certain) ἄνθρωπος (man) ἐκεῖ (there) τριάκοντα (thirty) καὶ (and) ὀκτὼ (eight) ἔτη (years) ἔχων (being) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀσθενείᾳ (ailment) αὐτοῦ (of him)·
6 τοῦτον (This one) ἰδὼν (having seen) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) κατακείμενον (lying), καὶ (and) γνοὺς (having known) ὅτι (that) πολὺν (a long) ἤδη (already) χρόνον (time) ἔχει (he has been), λέγει (He says) αὐτῷ (to him)· Θέλεις (Do you want) ὑγιὴς (well) γενέσθαι (to become)?
7 Ἀπεκρίθη (Answered) αὐτῷ (Him) ὁ (the one) ἀσθενῶν (ailing)· Κύριε (Sir), ἄνθρωπον (a man) οὐκ (not) ἔχω (I have), ἵνα (that) ὅταν (when) ταραχθῇ (might be stirred) τὸ (the) ὕδωρ (water) βάλῃ (he might put) με (me) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) κολυμβήθραν (pool)· ἐν (in) ᾧ (which) δὲ (then) ἔρχομαι (am going) ἐγὼ (I), ἄλλος (another) πρὸ (before) ἐμοῦ (me) καταβαίνει (goes down).
8 Λέγει (Says) αὐτῷ (to him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus)· Ἔγειρε (Arise) ἆρον (take up) τὸν (the) κράβαττόν (mat) σου (of you) καὶ (and) περιπάτει (walk).
9 Καὶ (And) εὐθέως (immediately) ἐγένετο (became) ὑγιὴς (well) ὁ (the) ἄνθρωπος (man), καὶ (and) ἦρεν (he took up) τὸν (the) κράβαττον (mat) αὐτοῦ (of him) καὶ (and) περιεπάτει (was walking).
Ἦν (It was) δὲ (now) σάββατον (the Sabbath) ἐν (on) ἐκείνῃ (that) τῇ (-) ἡμέρᾳ (day).
10 ἔλεγον (Were saying) οὖν (therefore) οἱ (the) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews) τῷ (to the one) τεθεραπευμένῳ (having been healed)· Σάββατόν (the Sabbath) ἐστιν (it is), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔξεστίν (it is lawful) σοι (for you) ἆραι (to take up) τὸν (the) κράβαττον (mat) σου (of you).
11 ὃς (who) δὲ (however) ἀπεκρίθη (answered) αὐτοῖς (them)· Ὁ (The One) ποιήσας (having made) με (me) ὑγιῆ (well), ἐκεῖνός (that One) μοι (to me) εἶπεν (said)· Ἆρον (Take up) τὸν (the) κράβαττόν (mat) σου (of you) καὶ (and) περιπάτει (walk).
12 Ἠρώτησαν (They asked) οὖν (therefore) αὐτόν (him)· Τίς (Who) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the) ἄνθρωπος (man) ὁ (-) εἰπών (having said) σοι (to you)· Ἆρον (Take it up) καὶ (and) περιπάτει (walk)?
13 Ὁ (The one) δὲ (now) ἰαθεὶς (having been healed) οὐκ (not) ᾔδει (knew) τίς (who) ἐστιν (it is)· ὁ (-) γὰρ (for) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐξένευσεν (moved away) ὄχλου (a crowd) ὄντος (being) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) τόπῳ (place).
14 Μετὰ (After) ταῦτα (these things) εὑρίσκει (finds) αὐτὸν (him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple) καὶ (and) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to him)· Ἴδε (Behold) ὑγιὴς (well) γέγονας (you have become)· μηκέτι (no more) ἁμάρτανε (sin), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) χεῖρόν (worse) σοί (to you) τι (something) γένηται (might happen).
15 ἀπῆλθεν (Went away) ὁ (the) ἄνθρωπος (man) καὶ (and) ἀνήγγειλεν (declared) τοῖς (to the) Ἰουδαίοις (Jews) ὅτι (that) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐστιν (is) ὁ (the One) ποιήσας (having made) αὐτὸν (him) ὑγιῆ (well).
The Father and the Son
16 Καὶ (And) διὰ (because of) τοῦτο (this) ἐδίωκον (were persecuting) οἱ (the) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), ὅτι (because) ταῦτα (these things) ἐποίει (He was doing) ἐν (on) σαββάτῳ (the Sabbath).
17 ὁ (-) δὲ (But) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἀπεκρίνατο (answered) αὐτοῖς (them)· Ὁ (The) Πατήρ (Father) μου (of Me) ἕως (until) ἄρτι (now) ἐργάζεται (is working), κἀγὼ (and I) ἐργάζομαι (am working)·
18 Διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this) οὖν (therefore) μᾶλλον (more) ἐζήτουν (were seeking) αὐτὸν (Him) οἱ (the) Ἰουδαῖοι (Jews) ἀποκτεῖναι (to kill), ὅτι (because) οὐ (not) μόνον (only) ἔλυεν (was He breaking) τὸ (the) σάββατον (Sabbath), ἀλλὰ (but) καὶ (also) Πατέρα (Father) ἴδιον (His own) ἔλεγεν (He was calling) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God), ἴσον (equal) ἑαυτὸν (Himself) ποιῶν (making) τῷ (to) Θεῷ (God).
19 Ἀπεκρίνατο (Answered) οὖν (therefore) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) καὶ (and) ἔλεγεν (was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Ἀμὴν (Truly) ἀμὴν (truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you⁺), οὐ (not) δύναται (is able) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) ποιεῖν (to do) ἀφ’ (from) ἑαυτοῦ (Himself) οὐδὲν (nothing), ἐὰν (if) μή (not) τι (anything) βλέπῃ (He may see) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father) ποιοῦντα (doing)· ἃ (whatever) γὰρ (for) ἂν (-) ἐκεῖνος (He) ποιῇ (may do), ταῦτα (these things) καὶ (also) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) ὁμοίως (likewise) ποιεῖ (does).
20 ὁ (-) γὰρ (For) Πατὴρ (the Father) φιλεῖ (loves) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) καὶ (and) πάντα (all things) δείκνυσιν (shows) αὐτῷ (Him) ἃ (that) αὐτὸς (He Himself) ποιεῖ (does), καὶ (and) μείζονα (greater) τούτων (than these) δείξει (He will show) αὐτῷ (Him) ἔργα (works), ἵνα (so that) ὑμεῖς (you⁺) θαυμάζητε (may marvel).
21 Ὥσπερ (Just as) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ἐγείρει (raises) τοὺς (the) νεκροὺς (dead) καὶ (and) ζωοποιεῖ (makes alive), οὕτως (thus) καὶ (also) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) οὓς (whom) θέλει (He wills) ζωοποιεῖ (makes alive).
22 οὐδὲ (Not even) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) κρίνει (judges) οὐδένα (no one), ἀλλὰ (but) τὴν (-) κρίσιν (judgment) πᾶσαν (all) δέδωκεν (He has given) τῷ (to the) Υἱῷ (Son),
23 ἵνα (so that) πάντες (all) τιμῶσι (may honor) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) καθὼς (just as) τιμῶσι (they honor) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father). ὁ (The one) μὴ (not) τιμῶν (honoring) τὸν (the) Υἱὸν (Son) οὐ (not) τιμᾷ (honors) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father) τὸν (the One) πέμψαντα (having sent) αὐτόν (Him).
24 Ἀμὴν (Truly) ἀμὴν (truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you⁺) ὅτι (that) ὁ (the one) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) μου (of Me) ἀκούων (hearing) καὶ (and) πιστεύων (believing) τῷ (the One) πέμψαντί (having sent) με (Me) ἔχει (has) ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal), καὶ (and) εἰς (into) κρίσιν (judgment) οὐκ (not) ἔρχεται (comes) ἀλλὰ (but) μεταβέβηκεν (has passed) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (-) θανάτου (death) εἰς (into) τὴν (-) ζωήν (life).
25 Ἀμὴν (Truly) ἀμὴν (truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you⁺) ὅτι (that) ἔρχεται (is coming) ὥρα (an hour) καὶ (and) νῦν (now) ἐστιν (is) ὅτε (when) οἱ (the) νεκροὶ (dead) ἀκούσουσιν (will hear) τῆς (the) φωνῆς (voice) τοῦ (of the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) καὶ (and) οἱ (those) ἀκούσαντες (having heard) ζήσουσιν (will live).
26 ὥσπερ (Just as) γὰρ (for) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ἔχει (has) ζωὴν (life) ἐν (in) ἑαυτῷ (Himself), οὕτως (so) καὶ (also) τῷ (to the) Υἱῷ (Son) ἔδωκεν (He gave) ζωὴν (life) ἔχειν (to have) ἐν (in) ἑαυτῷ (Himself).
27 καὶ (And) ἐξουσίαν (authority) ἔδωκεν (He gave) αὐτῷ (Him) κρίσιν (judgment) ποιεῖν (to do), ὅτι (because) Υἱὸς (the Son) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐστίν (He is).
28 μὴ (Not) θαυμάζετε (marvel at) τοῦτο (this), ὅτι (for) ἔρχεται (is coming) ὥρα (an hour) ἐν (in) ᾗ (which) πάντες (all) οἱ (those) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) μνημείοις (tombs) ἀκούσουσιν (will hear) τῆς (the) φωνῆς (voice) αὐτοῦ (of Him)
29 καὶ (and) ἐκπορεύσονται (they will come out) οἱ (those) τὰ (-) ἀγαθὰ (good) ποιήσαντες (having done) εἰς (to) ἀνάστασιν (the resurrection) ζωῆς (of life), οἱ (-) δὲ (and) τὰ (those) φαῦλα (evil) πράξαντες (having practiced) εἰς (to) ἀνάστασιν (the resurrection) κρίσεως (of judgment).
30 Οὐ (Not) δύναμαι (am able) ἐγὼ (I) ποιεῖν (to do) ἀπ’ (from) ἐμαυτοῦ (Myself) οὐδέν (nothing)· καθὼς (just as) ἀκούω (I hear) κρίνω (I judge), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) κρίσις (judgment) ἡ (-) ἐμὴ (of Me) δικαία (just) ἐστίν (is), ὅτι (because) οὐ (not) ζητῶ (I seek) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τὸ (-) ἐμὸν (of Me) ἀλλὰ (but) τὸ (the) θέλημα (will) τοῦ (of the One) πέμψαντός (having sent) με (Me).

35 Ἐκεῖνος (He) ἦν (was) ὁ (the) λύχνος (lamp) ὁ (-) καιόμενος (burning) καὶ (and) φαίνων (shining), ὑμεῖς (you⁺) δὲ (now) ἠθελήσατε (were willing) ἀγαλλιαθῆναι (to exult) πρὸς (for) ὥραν (an hour) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) φωτὶ (light) αὐτοῦ (of him).

45 Μὴ (Not) δοκεῖτε (think) ὅτι (that) ἐγὼ (I) κατηγορήσω (will accuse) ὑμῶν (you⁺) πρὸς (to) τὸν (the) Πατέρα (Father)· ἔστιν (There is) ὁ (the one) κατηγορῶν (accusing) ὑμῶν (you⁺) Μωϋσῆς (Moses), εἰς (in) ὃν (whom) ὑμεῖς (you⁺) ἠλπίκατε (have hoped).
46 εἰ (If) γὰρ (for) ἐπιστεύετε (you⁺ were believing) Μωϋσεῖ (Moses), ἐπιστεύετε (you⁺ would have been believing) ἂν (-) ἐμοί (Me)· περὶ (concerning) γὰρ (for) ἐμοῦ (Me) ἐκεῖνος (he) ἔγραψεν (wrote).
47 εἰ (If) δὲ (however) τοῖς (-) ἐκείνου (his) γράμμασιν (writings) οὐ (not) πιστεύετε (you⁺ believe), πῶς (how) τοῖς (-) ἐμοῖς (My) ῥήμασιν (words) πιστεύσετε (will you⁺ believe)?
