Mark 11

The Triumphal Entry
(Zechariah 9:9–13; Matthew 21:1–11; Luke 19:28–40; John 12:12–19)

1 Καὶ (And) ὅτε (when) ἐγγίζουσιν (they draw near) εἰς (to) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem) εἰς (to) Βηθφαγὴ (Bethphage) καὶ (and) Βηθανίαν (Bethany) πρὸς (near) τὸ (the) ὄρος (Mount) τῶν (-) Ἐλαιῶν (of Olives), ἀποστέλλει (He sends) δύο (two) τῶν (of the) μαθητῶν (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him) 2 καὶ (and) λέγει (He says) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Ὑπάγετε (Go) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) κώμην (village) τὴν (-) κατέναντι (ahead) ὑμῶν (of you⁺), καὶ (and) εὐθὺς (immediately) εἰσπορευόμενοι (entering) εἰς (into) αὐτὴν (it) εὑρήσετε (you⁺ will find) πῶλον (a colt) δεδεμένον (tied) ἐφ’ (on) ὃν (which) οὐδεὶς (no one) οὔπω (not yet) ἀνθρώπων (of men) ἐκάθισεν (sat)· λύσατε (having loosed) αὐτὸν (it) καὶ (also) φέρετε (bring it). 3 καὶ (And) ἐάν (if) τις (anyone) ὑμῖν (to you⁺) εἴπῃ (should say)· Τί (Why) ποιεῖτε (are you⁺ doing) τοῦτο (this)? εἴπατε (say)· Ὅτι (Because) (the) Κύριος (Lord) αὐτοῦ (of it) χρείαν (need) ἔχει (has), καὶ (and) εὐθὺς (immediately) αὐτὸν (it) ἀποστέλλει (He sends) πάλιν (again) ὧδε (here).

4 Καὶ (And) ἀπῆλθον (they went away) καὶ (and) εὗρον (found) πῶλον (a colt) δεδεμένον (tied) πρὸς (at) θύραν (the door) ἔξω (outside) ἐπὶ (on) τοῦ (the) ἀμφόδου (street), καὶ (and) λύουσιν (they loose) αὐτόν (it). 5 καί (And) τινες (some) τῶν (of those) ἐκεῖ (there) ἑστηκότων (standing) ἔλεγον (were saying) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Τί (What) ποιεῖτε (are you⁺ doing) λύοντες (loosing) τὸν (the) πῶλον (colt)?

6 Οἱ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπαν (they said) αὐτοῖς (to them) καθὼς (just as) εἶπεν (said) (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus)· καὶ (and) ἀφῆκαν (they allowed) αὐτούς (them). 7 καὶ (And) φέρουσιν (they bring) τὸν (the) πῶλον (colt) πρὸς (to) τὸν (-) Ἰησοῦν (Jesus), καὶ (and) ἐπιβάλλουσιν (they cast on) αὐτῷ (it) τὰ (the) ἱμάτια (garments) αὐτῶν (of them), καὶ (and) ἐκάθισεν (He sat) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτόν (it).

8 Καὶ (And) πολλοὶ (many) τὰ (the) ἱμάτια (garments) αὐτῶν (of them) ἔστρωσαν (spread) εἰς (in) τὴν (the) ὁδόν (road), ἄλλοι (others) δὲ (then) στιβάδας (branches), κόψαντες (having been cut) ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) ἀγρῶν (fields). 9 καὶ (And) οἱ (those) προάγοντες (going before) καὶ (and) οἱ (those) ἀκολουθοῦντες (following) ἔκραζον (were crying out)·

Ὡσαννά (Hosanna)·

Εὐλογημένος (Blessed is) (the One) ἐρχόμενος (coming) ἐν (in) ὀνόματι (the name) Κυρίου (of the Lord)·

10 Εὐλογημένη (Blessed) (is the) ἐρχομένη (coming) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (of the) πατρὸς (father) ἡμῶν (of us) Δαυίδ (David)·

Ὡσαννὰ (Hosanna) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) ὑψίστοις (highest).

11 Καὶ (And) εἰσῆλθεν (He entered) εἰς (into) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) ἱερόν (temple)· καὶ (and) περιβλεψάμενος (having looked around at) πάντα (all things), ὀψὲ (late) ἤδη (already) οὔσης (being) τῆς (the) ὥρας (hour), ἐξῆλθεν (He went out) εἰς (to) Βηθανίαν (Bethany) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) δώδεκα (Twelve).

12 Καὶ (And) τῇ (on the) ἐπαύριον (next day) ἐξελθόντων (on the having gone out) αὐτῶν (of them) ἀπὸ (from) Βηθανίας (Bethany) ἐπείνασεν (He was hungry). 13 καὶ (And) ἰδὼν (having seen) συκῆν (a fig tree) ἀπὸ (from) μακρόθεν (afar) ἔχουσαν (having) φύλλα (leaves) ἦλθεν (He went) εἰ (if) ἄρα (perhaps) τι (anything) εὑρήσει (He will find) ἐν (on) αὐτῇ (it), καὶ (And) ἐλθὼν (having gone) ἐπ’ (to) αὐτὴν (it) οὐδὲν (nothing) εὗρεν (He found) εἰ (if) μὴ (not) φύλλα (leaves)· (the) γὰρ (for) καιρὸς (season) οὐκ (not) ἦν (it was) σύκων (of figs). 14 καὶ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτῇ (to it)· Μηκέτι (No more) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα (age) ἐκ (of) σοῦ (you) μηδεὶς (no one) καρπὸν (fruit) φάγοι (may eat). καὶ (And) ἤκουον (were hearing) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

15 Καὶ (And) ἔρχονται (they come) εἰς (to) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem). Καὶ (And) εἰσελθὼν (having entered) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) ἱερὸν (temple) ἤρξατο (He began) ἐκβάλλειν (to cast out) τοὺς (those) πωλοῦντας (selling) καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) ἀγοράζοντας (buying) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple), καὶ (and) τὰς (the) τραπέζας (tables) τῶν (of the) κολλυβιστῶν (money changers) καὶ (and) τὰς (the) καθέδρας (seats) τῶν (of those) πωλούντων (selling) τὰς (the) περιστερὰς (doves) κατέστρεψεν (He overturned), 16 καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἤφιεν (He was not permitting) ἵνα (that) τις (anyone) διενέγκῃ (might carry) σκεῦος (a vessel) διὰ (through) τοῦ (the) ἱεροῦ (temple), 17 καὶ (And) ἐδίδασκεν (He was teaching) καὶ (and) ἔλεγεν (was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Οὐ (Not) γέγραπται (has it been written) ὅτι (-) (The) οἶκός (house) μου (of Me) οἶκος (a house) προσευχῆς (of prayer) κληθήσεται (will be called) πᾶσιν (for all) τοῖς (the) ἔθνεσιν (nations)? ὑμεῖς (You⁺) δὲ (however) πεποιήκατε (have made) αὐτὸν (it)· Σπήλαιον (a den) λῃστῶν (of robbers).

18 Καὶ (And) ἤκουσαν (heard) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes), καὶ (and) ἐζήτουν (they were seeking) πῶς (how) αὐτὸν (Him) ἀπολέσωσιν (they might destroy)· ἐφοβοῦντο (they were afraid of) γὰρ (for) αὐτόν (Him), πᾶς (all) γὰρ (for) (the) ὄχλος (crowd) ἐξεπλήσσετο (was astonished) ἐπὶ (at) τῇ (the) διδαχῇ (teaching) αὐτοῦ (of Him).

19 Καὶ (And) ὅταν (when) ὀψὲ (evening) ἐγένετο (came), ἐξεπορεύοντο (they were going forth) ἔξω (out of) τῆς (the) πόλεως (city).

The Withered Fig Tree

20 Καὶ (And) παραπορευόμενοι (passing by) πρωῒ (in the morning) εἶδον (they saw) τὴν (the) συκῆν (fig tree) ἐξηραμμένην (withered) ἐκ (from) ῥιζῶν (the roots). 21 καὶ (And) ἀναμνησθεὶς (having remembered) (-) Πέτρος (Peter) λέγει (says) αὐτῷ (to Him)· Ῥαββί (Rabbi), ἴδε (look) (the) συκῆ (fig tree) ἣν (that) κατηράσω (You cursed) ἐξήρανται (has withered).

22 Καὶ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering) (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) λέγει (says) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Ἔχετε (Have) πίστιν (faith) θεοῦ (from God). 23 ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you⁺) ὅτι (that) ὃς (whoever) ἂν (-) εἴπῃ (shall say) τῷ (to the) ὄρει (mountain) τούτῳ (this)· Ἄρθητι (Be taken away) καὶ (and) βλήθητι (be cast) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) θάλασσαν (sea), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) διακριθῇ (shall doubt) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) καρδίᾳ (heart) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἀλλὰ (but) πιστεύῃ (shall believe) ὅτι (that) (what) λαλεῖ (he says) γίνεται (happens), ἔσται (it will be done) αὐτῷ (for him). 24 διὰ (Because of) τοῦτο (this) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you⁺), πάντα (all things) ὅσα (as many as) προσεύχεσθε (you⁺ pray) καὶ (and) αἰτεῖσθε (ask), πιστεύετε (believe) ὅτι (that) ἐλάβετε (you⁺ receive), καὶ (and) ἔσται (it will be) ὑμῖν (unto you⁺).

25 Καὶ (And) ὅταν (when) στήκετε (you⁺ stand) προσευχόμενοι (praying), ἀφίετε (forgive) εἴ (if) τι (anything) ἔχετε (you⁺ have) κατά (against) τινος (anyone), ἵνα (so that) καὶ (also) (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ὑμῶν (of you⁺) (who is) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens) ἀφῇ (may forgive) ὑμῖν (you⁺) τὰ (the) παραπτώματα (trespasses) ὑμῶν (of you⁺).

27 Καὶ (And) ἔρχονται (they come) πάλιν (again) εἰς (to) Ἱεροσόλυμα (Jerusalem). καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἱερῷ (temple) περιπατοῦντος (in the walking) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἔρχονται (come) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (Him) οἱ (the) ἀρχιερεῖς (chief priests) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πρεσβύτεροι (elders), 28 καὶ (And) ἔλεγον (they were saying) αὐτῷ (to Him)· Ἐν (By) ποίᾳ (what) ἐξουσίᾳ (authority) ταῦτα (these things) ποιεῖς (You do)? 29  (-) δὲ (And) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said) αὐτοῖς (to them)· Ἐπερωτήσω (I will question) ὑμᾶς (you⁺) ἕνα (one) λόγον (word), καὶ (and) ἀποκρίθητέ (you⁺ answer) μοι (Me), καὶ (and) ἐρῶ (I will tell) ὑμῖν (you⁺) ἐν (by) ποίᾳ (what) ἐξουσίᾳ (authority) ταῦτα (these things) ποιῶ (I do). 30 τὸ (The) βάπτισμα (baptism) τὸ (-) Ἰωάννου (of John) ἐξ (from) οὐρανοῦ (heaven) ἦν (was it) (or) ἐξ (from) ἀνθρώπων (men)? ἀποκρίθητέ (Answer) μοι (Me).

31 Καὶ (And) διελογίζοντο (they were reasoning) πρὸς (with) ἑαυτοὺς (themselves) λέγοντες (saying)· Τί (What) εἴπωμεν (should we say) Ἐὰν (If) εἴπωμεν (we should say)· Ἐξ (From) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), ἐρεῖ (He will say)· Διὰ (Because of) τί (why) οὖν (then) οὐκ (not) ἐπιστεύσατε (did you⁺ believe) αὐτῷ (him)? 32 ἀλλὰ (But) εἴπωμεν (should we say)· Ἐξ (From) ἀνθρώπων (men)?—ἐφοβοῦντο (they were afraid of) τὸν (the) ὄχλον (crowd)· ἅπαντες (all) γὰρ (for) εἶχον (were holding) τὸν (-) Ἰωάννην (John) ὄντως (truly) ὅτι (that) προφήτης (a prophet) ἦν (he was). 33 καὶ (And) ἀποκριθέντες (answering) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) λέγουσιν (they say)· Οὐκ (Not) οἴδαμεν (we know).
