Put On the New Self
(Ephesians 4:17–32)
1 Εἰ (If) οὖν (then) συνηγέρθητε (you⁺ were raised with) τῷ (-) Χριστῷ (Christ), τὰ (the things) ἄνω (above) ζητεῖτε (seek), οὗ (where) ὁ (-) Χριστός (Christ) ἐστιν (is) ἐν (at) δεξιᾷ (the right hand) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) καθήμενος (sitting)·
2 τὰ (The things) ἄνω (above) φρονεῖτε (mind), μὴ (not) τὰ (the things) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth).
3 ἀπεθάνετε (You⁺ died) γάρ (for), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ζωὴ (life) ὑμῶν (of you⁺) κέκρυπται (has been hidden) σὺν (with) τῷ (-) Χριστῷ (Christ) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (God)·
4 ὅταν (When) ὁ (-) Χριστὸς (Christ) φανερωθῇ (shall appear), ἡ (the) ζωὴ (life) ὑμῶν (of you⁺), τότε (then) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you⁺) σὺν (with) αὐτῷ (Him) φανερωθήσεσθε (will appear) ἐν (in) δόξῃ (glory).
5 Νεκρώσατε (Put to death) οὖν (therefore) τὰ (the) μέλη (members) τὰ (which are) ἐπὶ (upon) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), πορνείαν (sexual immorality), ἀκαθαρσίαν (impurity), πάθος (passion), ἐπιθυμίαν (desire) κακήν (evil), καὶ (and) τὴν (-) πλεονεξίαν (covetousness) ἥτις (which) ἐστὶν (is) εἰδωλολατρία (idolatry),
6 δι’ (because of) ἃ (which things) ἔρχεται (comes) ἡ (the) ὀργὴ (wrath) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God)· ἐπὶ (on) τοὺς (the) υἱοὺς (sons) τῆς (of) ἀπειθείας (disobedience)
7 ἐν (in) οἷς (which) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you⁺) περιεπατήσατέ (walked) ποτε (once), ὅτε (when) ἐζῆτε (you⁺ were living) ἐν (in) τούτοις (them)·
8 νυνὶ (Now) δὲ (however) ἀπόθεσθε (put off) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you⁺) τὰ (-) πάντα (all these things), ὀργήν (wrath), θυμόν (rage), κακίαν (malice), βλασφημίαν (slander), αἰσχρολογίαν (shameful talk) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) στόματος (mouth) ὑμῶν (of you⁺)·
9 Μὴ (Not) ψεύδεσθε (lie) εἰς (to) ἀλλήλους (one another), ἀπεκδυσάμενοι (having put off) τὸν (the) παλαιὸν (old) ἄνθρωπον (man) σὺν (with) ταῖς (the) πράξεσιν (practices) αὐτοῦ (of him),
10 καὶ (and) ἐνδυσάμενοι (having put on) τὸν (the) νέον (new) τὸν (the one) ἀνακαινούμενον (being renewed) εἰς (in) ἐπίγνωσιν (knowledge) κατ’ (according to) εἰκόνα (the image) τοῦ (of the One) κτίσαντος (having created) αὐτόν (him),
11 ὅπου (where) οὐκ (not) ἔνι (there is) Ἕλλην (Greek) καὶ (and) Ἰουδαῖος (Jew), περιτομὴ (circumcision) καὶ (and) ἀκροβυστία (uncircumcision), βάρβαρος (barbarian), Σκύθης (Scythian), δοῦλος (slave), ἐλεύθερος (free), ἀλλὰ (but) τὰ (-) πάντα (all) καὶ (and) ἐν (in) πᾶσιν (all) Χριστός (Christ is).
12 Ἐνδύσασθε (Put on) οὖν (therefore), ὡς (as) ἐκλεκτοὶ (the chosen ones) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ἅγιοι (holy) καὶ (and) ἠγαπημένοι (beloved), σπλάγχνα (inner parts) οἰκτιρμοῦ (of compassion), χρηστότητα (kindness), ταπεινοφροσύνην (humility), πραΰτητα (gentleness), μακροθυμίαν (patience),
13 ἀνεχόμενοι (bearing with) ἀλλήλων (one another) καὶ (and) χαριζόμενοι (forgiving) ἑαυτοῖς (each other), ἐάν (If) τις (anyone) πρός (toward) τινα (another) ἔχῃ (may have) μομφήν (a complaint)· καθὼς (just as) καὶ (also) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord) ἐχαρίσατο (forgave) ὑμῖν (you⁺) οὕτως (so) καὶ (also) ὑμεῖς (you⁺)·
14 ἐπὶ (Over) πᾶσιν (all) δὲ (now) τούτοις (these) τὴν (-) ἀγάπην (put on love), ὅ (which) ἐστιν (is) σύνδεσμος (the bond) τῆς (-) τελειότητος (of perfection).
15 καὶ (And) ἡ (the) εἰρήνη (peace) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) βραβευέτω (let rule) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ὑμῶν (of you⁺), εἰς (to) ἣν (which) καὶ (also) ἐκλήθητε (you⁺ were called) ἐν (in) ἑνὶ (one) σώματι (body)· καὶ (And) εὐχάριστοι (thankful) γίνεσθε (be).
16 Ὁ (The) λόγος (word) τοῦ (-) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) ἐνοικείτω (let dwell) ἐν (in) ὑμῖν (you⁺) πλουσίως (richly), ἐν (in) πάσῃ (all) σοφίᾳ (wisdom)· διδάσκοντες (teaching) καὶ (and) νουθετοῦντες (admonishing) ἑαυτοὺς (each other), ψαλμοῖς (in psalms) ὕμνοις (hymns) ᾠδαῖς (and songs) πνευματικαῖς (spiritual) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) χάριτι (grace) ᾄδοντες (singing) ἐν (in) ταῖς (the) καρδίαις (hearts) ὑμῶν (of you⁺) τῷ (to) Θεῷ (God)·
17 καὶ (And) πᾶν (everything) ὅ (which) τι (what) ἐὰν (if) ποιῆτε (you⁺ may do) ἐν (in) λόγῳ (word) ἢ (or) ἐν (in) ἔργῳ (work), πάντα (do all things) ἐν (in) ὀνόματι (the name) Κυρίου (of the Lord) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), εὐχαριστοῦντες (giving thanks) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God) Πατρὶ (the Father) δι’ (through) αὐτοῦ (Him).

19 Οἱ (-) ἄνδρες (Husbands), ἀγαπᾶτε (love) τὰς (your) γυναῖκας (wives) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) πικραίνεσθε (be bitter) πρὸς (toward) αὐτάς (them).
20 Τὰ (-) τέκνα (Children), ὑπακούετε (obey) τοῖς (your) γονεῦσιν (parents) κατὰ (in) πάντα (all things), τοῦτο (this) γὰρ (for) εὐάρεστόν (well-pleasing) ἐστιν (is) ἐν (in) Κυρίῳ (the Lord).
21 Οἱ (-) πατέρες (Fathers), μὴ (not) ἐρεθίζετε (provoke) τὰ (the) τέκνα (children) ὑμῶν (of you⁺), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) ἀθυμῶσιν (they may become discouraged).

22 Οἱ (-) δοῦλοι (Slaves), ὑπακούετε (obey) κατὰ (according to) πάντα (all things) τοῖς (the) κατὰ (according to) σάρκα (flesh) κυρίοις (masters), μὴ (not) ἐν (with) ὀφθαλμοδουλίαις (eye-services), ὡς (as) ἀνθρωπάρεσκοι (men-pleasers), ἀλλ’ (but) ἐν (in) ἁπλότητι (sincerity) καρδίας (of heart) φοβούμενοι (fearing) τὸν (the) Κύριον (Lord).

24 εἰδότες (knowing) ὅτι (that) ἀπὸ (from) Κυρίου (the Lord) ἀπολήμψεσθε (you⁺ will receive back) τὴν (the) ἀνταπόδοσιν (reward) τῆς (of the) κληρονομίας (inheritance). τῷ (The) Κυρίῳ (Lord) Χριστῷ (Christ) δουλεύετε (you⁺ serve)·
25 ὁ (The one) γὰρ (for) ἀδικῶν (doing wrong) κομίσεται (will receive) ὃ (what) ἠδίκησεν (he has done wrong), καὶ (and) οὐκ (no) ἔστιν (there is) προσωπολημψία (partiality).
