A Greeting from Peter
(2 Peter 1:1–2)

1 Πέτρος (Peter) ἀπόστολος (an apostle) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ)

Ἐκλεκτοῖς (To the chosen) παρεπιδήμοις (sojourners) Διασπορᾶς (of the Diaspora) Πόντου (of Pontus), Γαλατίας (Galatia), Καππαδοκίας (Cappadocia), Ἀσίας (Asia), καὶ (and) Βιθυνίας (Bithynia), 2 κατὰ (according to) πρόγνωσιν (the foreknowledge) Θεοῦ (of God) Πατρός (the Father), ἐν (in) ἁγιασμῷ (the sanctification) Πνεύματος (of the Spirit), εἰς (for) ὑπακοὴν (obedience) καὶ (and) ῥαντισμὸν (sprinkling) αἵματος (of the blood) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ)·

Χάρις (Grace) ὑμῖν (to you⁺) καὶ (and) εἰρήνη (peace) πληθυνθείη (may be multiplied).

A Living Hope

3 Εὐλογητὸς (Blessed be) ὁ (the) Θεὸς (God) καὶ (and) Πατὴρ (Father) τοῦ (of the) Κυρίου (Lord) ἡμῶν (of us) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ὁ (the One) κατὰ (according to) τὸ (the) πολὺ (great) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἔλεος (mercy) ἀναγεννήσας (having begotten again) ἡμᾶς (us) εἰς (to) ἐλπίδα (a hope) ζῶσαν (living) δι’ (through) ἀναστάσεως (the resurrection) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead), 4 εἰς (into) κληρονομίαν (an inheritance) ἄφθαρτον (imperishable) καὶ (and) ἀμίαντον (undefiled) καὶ (and) ἀμάραντον (unfading), τετηρημένην (being kept) ἐν (in) οὐρανοῖς (the heavens) εἰς (for) ὑμᾶς (you⁺) 5 τοὺς (who) ἐν (in) δυνάμει (the power) Θεοῦ (of God) φρουρουμένους (are being guarded) διὰ (through) πίστεως (faith) εἰς (for) σωτηρίαν (the salvation) ἑτοίμην (ready) ἀποκαλυφθῆναι (to be revealed) ἐν (in) καιρῷ (the time) ἐσχάτῳ (last).

6 ἐν (in) ᾧ (which) ἀγαλλιᾶσθε (you⁺ exult), ὀλίγον (for a little while) ἄρτι (presently) εἰ (if) δέον (being necessary) ἐστὶν (it is) λυπηθέντες (having been grieved) ἐν (by) ποικίλοις (various) πειρασμοῖς (trials), 7 ἵνα (so that) τὸ (the) δοκίμιον (proven genuineness) ὑμῶν (of your⁺) τῆς (-) πίστεως (faith) πολυτιμότερον (more precious) χρυσίου (than gold) τοῦ (which is) ἀπολλυμένου (perishing), διὰ (by) πυρὸς (fire) δὲ (though) δοκιμαζομένου (being proved), εὑρεθῇ (may be found) εἰς (unto) ἔπαινον (praise) καὶ (and) δόξαν (glory) καὶ (and) τιμὴν (honor) ἐν (in) ἀποκαλύψει (the revelation) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ)· 8 ὃν (whom) οὐκ (not) ἰδόντες (having seen) ἀγαπᾶτε (you⁺ love), εἰς (in) ὃν (whom) ἄρτι (presently) μὴ (not) ὁρῶντες (seeing) πιστεύοντες (believing) δὲ (yet) ἀγαλλιᾶσθε (you⁺ exult) χαρᾷ (with joy) ἀνεκλαλήτῳ (inexpressible) καὶ (and) δεδοξασμένῃ (filled with glory), 9 κομιζόμενοι (receiving) τὸ (the) τέλος (outcome) τῆς (of the) πίστεως (faith) ὑμῶν (of you⁺) σωτηρίαν (the salvation) ψυχῶν (of your souls).

10 Περὶ (Concerning) ἧς (this) σωτηρίας (salvation) ἐξεζήτησαν (sought out) καὶ (and) ἐξηραύνησαν (searched out) προφῆται (the prophets) οἱ (those) περὶ (concerning) τῆς (the) εἰς (unto) ὑμᾶς (you⁺) χάριτος (grace) προφητεύσαντες (having prophesied), 11 ἐραυνῶντες (searching) εἰς (into) τίνα (what) ἢ (or) ποῖον (what manner of) καιρὸν (time) ἐδήλου (was making evident) τὸ (the) ἐν (in) αὐτοῖς (them) Πνεῦμα (Spirit) Χριστοῦ (of Christ) προμαρτυρόμενον (testifying beforehand) τὰ (the) εἰς (unto) Χριστὸν (of Christ) παθήματα (sufferings) καὶ (and) τὰς (the) μετὰ (after) ταῦτα (these) δόξας (glories)· 12 οἷς (to whom) ἀπεκαλύφθη (it was revealed) ὅτι (that) οὐχ (not) ἑαυτοῖς (themselves) ὑμῖν (you⁺) δὲ (however) διηκόνουν (they were serving) αὐτά (in these things), ἃ (which) νῦν (now) ἀνηγγέλη (were proclaimed) ὑμῖν (to you⁺) διὰ (through) τῶν (those) εὐαγγελισαμένων (having proclaimed the gospel to) ὑμᾶς (you⁺) ἐν (in) Πνεύματι (the Spirit) Ἁγίῳ (Holy) ἀποσταλέντι (having been sent) ἀπ’ (from) οὐρανοῦ (heaven), εἰς (into) ἃ (which) ἐπιθυμοῦσιν (long) ἄγγελοι (angels) παρακύψαι (to look).

13 Διὸ (Therefore) ἀναζωσάμενοι (having girded up) τὰς (the) ὀσφύας (loins) τῆς (of the) διανοίας (mind) ὑμῶν (of you⁺), νήφοντες (being sober), τελείως (completely), ἐλπίσατε (hope) ἐπὶ (upon) τὴν (the) φερομένην (being brought) ὑμῖν (to you⁺) χάριν (grace) ἐν (in) ἀποκαλύψει (the revelation) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ). 14 ὡς (as) τέκνα (children) ὑπακοῆς (of obedience), μὴ (not) συσχηματιζόμενοι (being conformed) ταῖς (to the) πρότερον (former) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ἀγνοίᾳ (ignorance) ὑμῶν (of you⁺) ἐπιθυμίαις (passions), 15 ἀλλὰ (But) κατὰ (according as) τὸν (the One) καλέσαντα (having called) ὑμᾶς (you⁺) ἅγιον (is holy) καὶ (also) αὐτοὶ (yourselves) ἅγιοι (holy) ἐν (in) πάσῃ (all) ἀναστροφῇ (your conduct) γενήθητε (be), 16 διότι (because) γέγραπται (it has been written) ὅτι (-)· Ἅγιοι (Holy) ἔσεσθε (you⁺ shall be), ὅτι (because) ἐγὼ (I) ἅγιος (holy) εἰμι (am).

17 Καὶ (And) εἰ (if) Πατέρα (as Father) ἐπικαλεῖσθε (you⁺ call on) τὸν (the One) ἀπροσωπολήμπτως (impartially) κρίνοντα (judging) κατὰ (according to) τὸ (the) ἑκάστου (of each) ἔργον (work), ἐν (in) φόβῳ (fear) τὸν (in the) τῆς (of the) παροικίας (sojourn) ὑμῶν (of you⁺) χρόνον (time) ἀναστράφητε (conduct yourselves), 18 εἰδότες (knowing) ὅτι (that) οὐ (not) φθαρτοῖς (with perishable things), ἀργυρίῳ (with silver) ἢ (or) χρυσίῳ (with gold), ἐλυτρώθητε (were you⁺ redeemed) ἐκ (from) τῆς (the) ματαίας (futile) ὑμῶν (of you⁺) ἀναστροφῆς (conduct) πατροπαραδότου (handed down from your fathers), 19 ἀλλὰ (but) τιμίῳ (with the precious) αἵματι (blood) ὡς (as) ἀμνοῦ (of a lamb) ἀμώμου (unblemished) καὶ (and) ἀσπίλου (spotless) Χριστοῦ (of Christ), 20 προεγνωσμένου (having been foreknown) μὲν (indeed) πρὸ (before) καταβολῆς (the foundation) κόσμου (of the world), φανερωθέντος (having been made manifest) δὲ (however) ἐπ’ (in) ἐσχάτου (the last) τῶν (-) χρόνων (times) δι’ (on account of) ὑμᾶς (you⁺) 21 τοὺς (who) δι’ (through) αὐτοῦ (Him) πιστοὺς (are believers) εἰς (in) Θεὸν (God) τὸν (the One) ἐγείραντα (having raised) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐκ (out from) νεκρῶν (the dead) καὶ (and) δόξαν (glory) αὐτῷ (Him) δόντα (having given), ὥστε (so as for) τὴν (the) πίστιν (faith) ὑμῶν (of you⁺) καὶ (and) ἐλπίδα (hope) εἶναι (to be) εἰς (in) Θεόν (God).

22 Τὰς (The) ψυχὰς (souls) ὑμῶν (of you⁺) ἡγνικότες (having purified) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) ὑπακοῇ (obedience) τῆς (of the) ἀληθείας (truth) εἰς (unto) φιλαδελφίαν (brotherly love) ἀνυπόκριτον (unfeigned), ἐκ (out of) καθαρᾶς (a pure) καρδίας (heart) ἀλλήλους (one another) ἀγαπήσατε (love) ἐκτενῶς (earnestly), 23 ἀναγεγεννημένοι (Having been born again) οὐκ (not) ἐκ (of) σπορᾶς (seed) φθαρτῆς (perishable) ἀλλὰ (but) ἀφθάρτου (of imperishable), διὰ (by) λόγου (the word) ζῶντος (living) Θεοῦ (of God) καὶ (and) μένοντος (abiding). 24 διότι (because)·

Πᾶσα (All) σὰρξ (flesh is) ὡς (like) χόρτος (grass),

καὶ (and) πᾶσα (all) δόξα (the glory) αὐτῆς (of it) ὡς (like) ἄνθος (a flower) χόρτου (of grass)·

ἐξηράνθη (Withered) ὁ (the) χόρτος (grass), καὶ (and) τὸ (the) ἄνθος (flower) ἐξέπεσεν (fell off)·

25 τὸ (-) δὲ (but) ῥῆμα (the word) Κυρίου (of the Lord) μένει (remains) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) αἰῶνα (age).

Τοῦτο (This) δέ (now) ἐστιν (is) τὸ (the) ῥῆμα (word) τὸ (-) εὐαγγελισθὲν (having been proclaimed as good news) εἰς (to) ὑμᾶς (you⁺).
