The prophecy points to a definite future time when God brings His purposes to completion.

Zep 1:14 The great Day of the LORD is near—near and coming quickly.…
Jol 3:14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision!…
Isa 13:6 Wail, for the Day of the LORD is near; it will come…

when Gog comes against the land of Israel,

Gog will lead hostile nations in an invasion of Israel, gathering against the people and land God has set apart.

Ezk 39:2 I will turn you around, drive you along…
Rev 20:8 and will go out to deceive the nations…
Jol 3:2 I will gather all the nations and bring them down…

declares the Lord GOD,

The outcome is certain because it rests on the sovereign decree of Yahweh.

Ezk 5:11 Therefore as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD,…
Ezk 20:3 Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel…
Ezk 13:8 Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says…

My wrath will flare up.

God will answer this assault with righteous judgment, defending His people and displaying His holiness before the nations.

Ezk 21:31 I will pour out My anger upon you; I will breathe the fire…
Ezk 7:8 Very soon I will pour out My wrath upon you…
Deu 29:20 The LORD will never be willing to forgive him.…

In My zeal and fiery rage

God’s judgment against Gog rises from His holy determination to defend His name, His people, and His land. Gog’s invasion is not merely a military threat but open rebellion against God’s rule, bringing a decisive response.

Zep 3:8 Therefore wait for Me,” declares the LORD, “until the day…
Isa 42:13 The LORD goes forth like a mighty one; He stirs up His zeal…
Psa 79:5 How long, O LORD? Will You be angry forever?…

I proclaim that on that day

The appointed day will come according to God’s purpose. The defeat of Gog will not depend on Israel’s strength or political alliances, but on God’s direct intervention.

Isa 61:2 to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor…
Zec 12:3 On that day, when all the nations of the earth…
Zec 14:1 Behold, a day of the LORD is coming when your plunder…

there will be a great earthquake

A vast earthquake will mark the beginning of God’s judgment, shaking the land and throwing Gog’s invading forces into confusion. Creation itself will bear witness to the presence and power of God.

Rev 16:18 And there were flashes of lightning, rumblings,…
Zec 14:5 You will flee by My mountain valley, for it will extend…
Jdg 5:4-5 O LORD, when You went out from Seir, when You marched…

in the land of Israel.

Israel remains the setting of these events because God’s covenant purposes for the land and His people stand secure. The invasion intended to plunder Israel will end in the public display of God’s sovereignty.

Ezk 11:17 Therefore declare that this is what the Lord GOD says:…
Ezk 36:24 For I will take you from among the nations…
Ezk 37:21-22 you are to tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says:…

The fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the beasts of the field, every creature that crawls upon the ground, and all mankind on the face of the earth will tremble at My presence.

God’s arrival in judgment against Gog will shake the whole created order. Animals and people alike will recognize His sovereign power, showing that the conflict is not merely between nations but an act of divine judgment visible to all the earth.

Gen 7:21-23 And every living thing that moved upon the earth…
Hos 4:3 Therefore the land mourns, and all who dwell in it…
Psa 114:7 Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord…

The mountains will be thrown down, the cliffs will collapse, and every wall will fall to the ground.

The upheaval will remove both natural landmarks and human defenses. Mountains, cliffs, and fortified walls that appear secure will not stand when God intervenes. Gog’s armies and the nations joined to him will find no refuge from the Lord’s judgment.

Nam 1:5-6 The mountains quake before Him, and the hills melt away;…
Mic 1:4 The mountains will melt beneath Him,…
Jos 6:20 So when the rams’ horns sounded, the people shouted.…

And I will summon a sword against Gog

God will personally bring judgment on Gog and the forces gathered against Israel. The invading coalition will not escape by military strength or numbers, for the Lord directs the outcome of the conflict.

Ezk 21:3-5 This is what the LORD says: ‘I am against you,…
Lev 26:25 And I will bring a sword against you to execute…
Jer 25:31 The tumult will resound to the ends of the earth…

on all My mountains,

Gog’s assault will reach the mountains of Israel, the land God has claimed and promised to His people. There, the invaders will meet the judgment appointed for them.

Isa 14:25 I will break Assyria in My land; I will trample him…
Ezk 36:1-4 And you, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel…
Jol 3:17 Then you will know that I am the LORD your God,…

declares the Lord GOD,

The certainty of the event rests on the authority of the sovereign Lord, whose purpose cannot be resisted.

Ezk 5:11 Therefore as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD,…
Ezk 12:25 I, the LORD, will speak whatever word I speak…
Ezk 13:8 Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says…

and every man’s sword will be against his brother.

Confusion and terror will spread through Gog’s army until its soldiers turn on one another. Their unity will collapse, and the coalition formed against Israel will contribute to its own destruction.

Exo 32:27 He told them, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel,…
Jdg 7:22 And when the three hundred rams’ horns sounded,…
1Sa 14:20 Then Saul and all his troops assembled and marched…

I will execute judgment upon him with plague and bloodshed.

God declares His direct judgment against Gog and the nations gathered with him against Israel. Plague and bloodshed portray a devastating defeat brought about by God Himself, revealing His sovereignty over rulers and armies that oppose His purposes.

Ezk 5:17 I will send famine and wild beasts against you…
Ezk 14:19 Or if I send a plague into that land…

I will pour out torrents of rain, hailstones, fire, and sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him.

The judgment will extend across Gog’s entire coalition. Rain, hail, fire, and sulfur demonstrate that creation is under God’s command and will serve His judgment. The destruction of this vast force will establish before the nations that no military alliance can prevail against the Lord.

Psa 11:6 On the wicked He will rain down fiery coals and sulfur;…
Isa 30:30 And the LORD will cause His majestic voice to be heard…
Gen 19:24-25 Then the LORD rained down sulfur and fire…

I will magnify and sanctify Myself,

God will act decisively against Gog and the invading coalition, displaying His greatness and holiness through judgment. Their attack on Israel will expose the pride of the nations and demonstrate that no military power can oppose the Lord.

Ezk 20:41 When I bring you from the peoples and gather you…
Lev 10:3 Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the LORD meant…
Isa 5:16 But the LORD of Hosts will be exalted by His justice,…

and I will reveal Myself in the sight of many nations.

The defeat of Gog will be witnessed beyond Israel, making God’s authority known throughout the nations. His intervention will publicly distinguish Him from the false gods and human rulers trusted by the surrounding peoples.

Ezk 39:21 I will display My glory among the nations,…
Isa 66:18 “And I, knowing their deeds and thoughts,…
Isa 52:10 The LORD has bared His holy arm in the sight of all the nations…

Then they will know that I am the LORD.

God’s judgment will establish that He is the covenant-keeping God who rules over Israel and all nations. Those who witness His deliverance will be compelled to recognize His power, holiness, and sovereignty.

Exo 7:5 And the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD,…
Exo 14:4 And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart so that he will pursue…
Ezk 36:23 I will show the holiness of My great name,…
