Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover, was approaching.1Ἤγγιζεν δὲ ἑορτὴ τῶν ἀζύμων λεγομένη Πάσχα
The chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might put Him to death; for they were afraid of the people.2καὶ ἐζήτουν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς τὸ πῶς ἀνέλωσιν αὐτόν ἐφοβοῦντο γὰρ τὸν λαόν
And Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, belonging to the number of the twelve.3Εἰσῆλθεν δὲ Σατανᾶς εἰς Ἰούδαν τὸν καλούμενον Ἰσκαριώτην ὄντα ἐκ τοῦ ἀριθμοῦ τῶν δώδεκα
And he went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers how he might betray Him to them.4καὶ ἀπελθὼν συνελάλησεν τοῖς ἀρχιερεῦσιν καὶ στρατηγοῖς τὸ πῶς αὐτοῖς παραδῷ αὐτόν
They were glad and agreed to give him money.5καὶ ἐχάρησαν καὶ συνέθεντο αὐτῷ ἀργύριον δοῦναι
So he consented, and began seeking a good opportunity to betray Him to them apart from the crowd.6καὶ ἐξωμολόγησεν καὶ ἐζήτει εὐκαιρίαν τοῦ παραδοῦναι αὐτὸν ἄτερ ὄχλου αὐτοῖς
Then came the first day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.7Ἦλθεν δὲ ἡμέρα τῶν ἀζύμων [ἐν] ἔδει θύεσθαι τὸ πάσχα
And Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, "Go and prepare the Passover for us, so that we may eat it."8καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Πέτρον καὶ Ἰωάννην εἰπών Πορευθέντες ἑτοιμάσατε ἡμῖν τὸ πάσχα ἵνα φάγωμεν
They said to Him, "Where do You want us to prepare it?"9Οἱ δὲ εἶπαν αὐτῷ Ποῦ θέλεις ἑτοιμάσωμεν
And He said to them, "When you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house that he enters.10 δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ἰδοὺ εἰσελθόντων ὑμῶν εἰς τὴν πόλιν συναντήσει ὑμῖν ἄνθρωπος κεράμιον ὕδατος βαστάζων ἀκολουθήσατε αὐτῷ εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν εἰς ἣν εἰσπορεύεται
"And you shall say to the owner of the house, 'The Teacher says to you, "Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?"'11καὶ ἐρεῖτε τῷ οἰκοδεσπότῃ τῆς οἰκίας Λέγει σοι Διδάσκαλος Ποῦ ἐστιν τὸ κατάλυμα ὅπου τὸ πάσχα μετὰ τῶν μαθητῶν μου φάγω
"And he will show you a large, furnished upper room; prepare it there."12κἀκεῖνος ὑμῖν δείξει ἀνάγαιον μέγα ἐστρωμένον ἐκεῖ ἑτοιμάσατε
And they left and found everything just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.13Ἀπελθόντες δὲ εὗρον καθὼς εἰρήκει αὐτοῖς καὶ ἡτοίμασαν τὸ πάσχα
When the hour had come, He reclined at the table, and the apostles with Him.14Καὶ ὅτε ἐγένετο ὥρα ἀνέπεσεν καὶ οἱ ἀπόστολοι σὺν αὐτῷ
And He said to them, "I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer;15καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς Ἐπιθυμίᾳ ἐπεθύμησα τοῦτο τὸ πάσχα φαγεῖν μεθ’ ὑμῶν πρὸ τοῦ με παθεῖν
for I say to you, I shall never again eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God."16λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι 〈οὐκέτι〉 οὐ μὴ φάγω αὐτὸ ἕως ὅτου πληρωθῇ ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τοῦ Θεοῦ
And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He said, "Take this and share it among yourselves;17Καὶ δεξάμενος ποτήριον εὐχαριστήσας εἶπεν Λάβετε τοῦτο καὶ διαμερίσατε εἰς ἑαυτούς
for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes."18λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν [ὅτι] οὐ μὴ πίω ἀπὸ τοῦ νῦν ἀπὸ τοῦ γενήματος τῆς ἀμπέλου ἕως οὗ βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ ἔλθῃ
And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, "This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me."19Καὶ λαβὼν ἄρτον εὐχαριστήσας ἔκλασεν καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς λέγων Τοῦτό ἐστιν τὸ σῶμά μου τὸ ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν διδόμενον τοῦτο ποιεῖτε εἰς τὴν ἐμὴν ἀνάμνησιν
And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, "This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood.20καὶ τὸ ποτήριον ὡσαύτως μετὰ τὸ δειπνῆσαι λέγων Τοῦτο τὸ ποτήριον καινὴ διαθήκη ἐν τῷ αἵματί μου τὸ ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν ἐκχυννόμενον
"But behold, the hand of the one betraying Me is with Mine on the table.21Πλὴν ἰδοὺ χεὶρ τοῦ παραδιδόντος με μετ’ ἐμοῦ ἐπὶ τῆς τραπέζης
"For indeed, the Son of Man is going as it has been determined; but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!"22ὅτι Υἱὸς μὲν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου κατὰ τὸ ὡρισμένον πορεύεται πλὴν οὐαὶ τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ ἐκείνῳ δι’ οὗ παραδίδοται
And they began to discuss among themselves which one of them it might be who was going to do this thing.23Καὶ αὐτοὶ ἤρξαντο συζητεῖν πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς τὸ τίς ἄρα εἴη ἐξ αὐτῶν τοῦτο μέλλων πράσσειν
And there arose also a dispute among them as to which one of them was regarded to be greatest.24Ἐγένετο δὲ καὶ φιλονεικία ἐν αὐτοῖς τὸ τίς αὐτῶν δοκεῖ εἶναι μείζων
And He said to them, "The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who have authority over them are called 'Benefactors.'25 δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Οἱ βασιλεῖς τῶν ἐθνῶν κυριεύουσιν αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ ἐξουσιάζοντες αὐτῶν εὐεργέται καλοῦνται
"But it is not this way with you, but the one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant.26ὑμεῖς δὲ οὐχ οὕτως ἀλλ’ μείζων ἐν ὑμῖν γινέσθω ὡς νεώτερος καὶ ἡγούμενος ὡς διακονῶν
"For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But I am among you as the one who serves.27τίς γὰρ μείζων ἀνακείμενος διακονῶν οὐχὶ ἀνακείμενος ἐγὼ δὲ ἐν μέσῳ ὑμῶν εἰμι ὡς διακονῶν
"You are those who have stood by Me in My trials;28Ὑμεῖς δέ ἐστε οἱ διαμεμενηκότες μετ’ ἐμοῦ ἐν τοῖς πειρασμοῖς μου
and just as My Father has granted Me a kingdom, I grant you29κἀγὼ διατίθεμαι ὑμῖν καθὼς διέθετό μοι Πατήρ μου βασιλείαν
that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.30ἵνα ἔσθητε καὶ πίνητε ἐπὶ τῆς τραπέζης μου ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ μου καὶ καθήσεσθε ἐπὶ θρόνων τὰς δώδεκα φυλὰς κρίνοντες τοῦ Ἰσραήλ
"Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat;31Σίμων Σίμων ἰδοὺ Σατανᾶς ἐξῃτήσατο ὑμᾶς τοῦ σινιάσαι ὡς τὸν σῖτον
but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers."32ἐγὼ δὲ ἐδεήθην περὶ σοῦ ἵνα μὴ ἐκλίπῃ πίστις σου καὶ σύ ποτε ἐπιστρέψας στήρισον τοὺς ἀδελφούς σου
But he said to Him, "Lord, with You I am ready to go both to prison and to death!"33 δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Κύριε μετὰ σοῦ ἕτοιμός εἰμι καὶ εἰς φυλακὴν καὶ εἰς θάνατον πορεύεσθαι
And He said, "I say to you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me."34 δὲ εἶπεν Λέγω σοι Πέτρε οὐ φωνήσει σήμερον ἀλέκτωρ ἕως τρίς με ἀπαρνήσῃ 〈μὴ〉 εἰδέναι
And He said to them, "When I sent you out without money belt and bag and sandals, you did not lack anything, did you?" They said, "No, nothing."35Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ὅτε ἀπέστειλα ὑμᾶς ἄτερ βαλλαντίου καὶ πήρας καὶ ὑποδημάτων μή τινος ὑστερήσατε Οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Οὐθενός
And He said to them, "But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one.36Εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Ἀλλὰ νῦν ἔχων βαλλάντιον ἀράτω ὁμοίως καὶ πήραν καὶ μὴ ἔχων πωλησάτω τὸ ἱμάτιον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀγορασάτω μάχαιραν
"For I tell you that this which is written must be fulfilled in Me, 'AND HE WAS NUMBERED WITH TRANSGRESSORS'; for that which refers to Me has its fulfillment."37λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι τοῦτο τὸ γεγραμμένον δεῖ τελεσθῆναι ἐν ἐμοί Τό Καὶ μετὰ ἀνόμων ἐλογίσθη καὶ γὰρ τὸ περὶ ἐμοῦ τέλος ἔχει
They said, "Lord, look, here are two swords." And He said to them, "It is enough."38Οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Κύριε ἰδοὺ μάχαιραι ὧδε δύο δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ἱκανόν ἐστιν
And He came out and proceeded as was His custom to the Mount of Olives; and the disciples also followed Him.39Καὶ ἐξελθὼν ἐπορεύθη κατὰ τὸ ἔθος εἰς τὸ ὄρος τῶν Ἐλαιῶν ἠκολούθησαν δὲ αὐτῷ καὶ οἱ μαθηταί
When He arrived at the place, He said to them, "Pray that you may not enter into temptation."40γενόμενος δὲ ἐπὶ τοῦ τόπου εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Προσεύχεσθε μὴ εἰσελθεῖν εἰς πειρασμόν
And He withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and He knelt down and began to pray,41Καὶ αὐτὸς ἀπεσπάσθη ἀπ’ αὐτῶν ὡσεὶ λίθου βολήν καὶ θεὶς τὰ γόνατα προσηύχετο
saying, "Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done."42λέγων Πάτερ εἰ βούλει παρένεγκε τοῦτο τὸ ποτήριον ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ πλὴν μὴ τὸ θέλημά μου ἀλλὰ τὸ σὸν γινέσθω
Now an angel from heaven appeared to Him, strengthening Him.43Ὤφθη δὲ αὐτῷ ἄγγελος ἀπ’ (τοῦ) οὐρανοῦ ἐνισχύων αὐτόν
And being in agony He was praying very fervently; and His sweat became like drops of blood, falling down upon the ground.44καὶ γενόμενος ἐν ἀγωνίᾳ ἐκτενέστερον προσηύχετο καὶ ἐγένετο ἱδρὼς αὐτοῦ ὡσεὶ θρόμβοι αἵματος καταβαίνοντες ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν
When He rose from prayer, He came to the disciples and found them sleeping from sorrow,45Καὶ ἀναστὰς ἀπὸ τῆς προσευχῆς ἐλθὼν πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς εὗρεν κοιμωμένους αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ τῆς λύπης
and said to them, "Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you may not enter into temptation."46καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Τί καθεύδετε ἀναστάντες προσεύχεσθε ἵνα μὴ εἰσέλθητε εἰς πειρασμόν
While He was still speaking, behold, a crowd came, and the one called Judas, one of the twelve, was preceding them; and he approached Jesus to kiss Him.47Ἔτι αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος ἰδοὺ ὄχλος καὶ λεγόμενος Ἰούδας εἷς τῶν δώδεκα προήρχετο αὐτούς καὶ ἤγγισεν τῷ Ἰησοῦ φιλῆσαι αὐτόν
But Jesus said to him, "Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?"48Ἰησοῦς δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἰούδα φιλήματι τὸν Υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδίδως
When those who were around Him saw what was going to happen, they said, "Lord, shall we strike with the sword?"49Ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ περὶ αὐτὸν τὸ ἐσόμενον εἶπαν Κύριε εἰ πατάξομεν ἐν μαχαίρῃ
And one of them struck the slave of the high priest and cut off his right ear.50καὶ ἐπάταξεν εἷς τις ἐξ αὐτῶν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως τὸν δοῦλον καὶ ἀφεῖλεν τὸ οὖς αὐτοῦ τὸ δεξιόν
But Jesus answered and said, "Stop! No more of this." And He touched his ear and healed him.51Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν Ἐᾶτε ἕως τούτου καὶ ἁψάμενος τοῦ ὠτίου ἰάσατο αὐτόν
Then Jesus said to the chief priests and officers of the temple and elders who had come against Him, "Have you come out with swords and clubs as you would against a robber?52Εἶπεν δὲ Ἰησοῦς πρὸς τοὺς παραγενομένους ἐπ’ αὐτὸν ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ στρατηγοὺς τοῦ ἱεροῦ καὶ πρεσβυτέρους Ὡς ἐπὶ λῃστὴν ἐξήλθατε μετὰ μαχαιρῶν καὶ ξύλων
"While I was with you daily in the temple, you did not lay hands on Me; but this hour and the power of darkness are yours."53καθ’ ἡμέραν ὄντος μου μεθ’ ὑμῶν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ οὐκ ἐξετείνατε τὰς χεῖρας ἐπ’ ἐμέ ἀλλ’ αὕτη ἐστὶν ὑμῶν ὥρα καὶ ἐξουσία τοῦ σκότους
Having arrested Him, they led Him away and brought Him to the house of the high priest; but Peter was following at a distance.54Συλλαβόντες δὲ αὐτὸν ἤγαγον καὶ εἰσήγαγον εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως δὲ Πέτρος ἠκολούθει μακρόθεν
After they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter was sitting among them.55Περιαψάντων δὲ πῦρ ἐν μέσῳ τῆς αὐλῆς καὶ συνκαθισάντων ἐκάθητο Πέτρος μέσος αὐτῶν
And a servant-girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight and looking intently at him, said, "This man was with Him too."56ἰδοῦσα δὲ αὐτὸν παιδίσκη τις καθήμενον πρὸς τὸ φῶς καὶ ἀτενίσασα αὐτῷ εἶπεν Καὶ οὗτος σὺν αὐτῷ ἦν
But he denied it, saying, "Woman, I do not know Him."57 δὲ ἠρνήσατο λέγων Οὐκ οἶδα αὐτόν γύναι
A little later, another saw him and said, "You are one of them too!" But Peter said, "Man, I am not!"58Καὶ μετὰ βραχὺ ἕτερος ἰδὼν αὐτὸν ἔφη Καὶ σὺ ἐξ αὐτῶν εἶ δὲ Πέτρος ἔφη Ἄνθρωπε οὐκ εἰμί
After about an hour had passed, another man began to insist, saying, "Certainly this man also was with Him, for he is a Galilean too."59Καὶ διαστάσης ὡσεὶ ὥρας μιᾶς ἄλλος τις διϊσχυρίζετο λέγων Ἐπ’ ἀληθείας καὶ οὗτος μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἦν καὶ γὰρ Γαλιλαῖός ἐστιν
But Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you are talking about." Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed.60Εἶπεν δὲ Πέτρος Ἄνθρωπε οὐκ οἶδα λέγεις καὶ παραχρῆμα ἔτι λαλοῦντος αὐτοῦ ἐφώνησεν ἀλέκτωρ
The Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, "Before a rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times."61καὶ στραφεὶς Κύριος ἐνέβλεψεν τῷ Πέτρῳ καὶ ὑπεμνήσθη Πέτρος τοῦ λόγου τοῦ Κυρίου ὡς εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὅτι Πρὶν ἀλέκτορα φωνῆσαι σήμερον ἀπαρνήσῃ με τρίς
And he went out and wept bitterly.62καὶ ἐξελθὼν ἔξω ἔκλαυσεν πικρῶς
Now the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking Him and beating Him,63Καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες οἱ συνέχοντες αὐτὸν ἐνέπαιζον αὐτῷ δέροντες
and they blindfolded Him and were asking Him, saying, "Prophesy, who is the one who hit You?"64καὶ περικαλύψαντες αὐτὸν ⧼ἔτυπτον αὐτοῦ τὸ πρόσωπον καὶ⧽ ἐπηρώτων λέγοντες Προφήτευσον τίς ἐστιν παίσας σε
And they were saying many other things against Him, blaspheming.65καὶ ἕτερα πολλὰ βλασφημοῦντες ἔλεγον εἰς αὐτόν
When it was day, the Council of elders of the people assembled, both chief priests and scribes, and they led Him away to their council chamber, saying,66Καὶ ὡς ἐγένετο ἡμέρα συνήχθη τὸ πρεσβυτέριον τοῦ λαοῦ ἀρχιερεῖς τε καὶ γραμματεῖς καὶ ἀπήγαγον αὐτὸν εἰς τὸ συνέδριον αὐτῶν λέγοντες
"If You are the Christ, tell us." But He said to them, "If I tell you, you will not believe;67Εἰ σὺ εἶ Χριστός εἰπὸν ἡμῖν Εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Ἐὰν ὑμῖν εἴπω οὐ μὴ πιστεύσητε
and if I ask a question, you will not answer.68ἐὰν δὲ ἐρωτήσω οὐ μὴ ἀποκριθῆτε
"But from now on THE SON OF MAN WILL BE SEATED AT THE RIGHT HAND of the power OF GOD."69ἀπὸ τοῦ νῦν δὲ ἔσται Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου καθήμενος ἐκ δεξιῶν τῆς δυνάμεως τοῦ Θεοῦ
And they all said, "Are You the Son of God, then?" And He said to them, "Yes, I am."70Εἶπαν δὲ πάντες Σὺ οὖν εἶ Υἱὸς τοῦ Θεοῦ δὲ πρὸς αὐτοὺς ἔφη Ὑμεῖς λέγετε ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι
Then they said, "What further need do we have of testimony? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth."71Οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Τί ἔτι ἔχομεν μαρτυρίας χρείαν αὐτοὶ γὰρ ἠκούσαμεν ἀπὸ τοῦ στόματος αὐτοῦ
