Paul’s Greeting to Titus
(2 Corinthians 8:16–24)

1 Παῦλος (Paul) δοῦλος (a servant) Θεοῦ (of God), ἀπόστολος (an apostle) δὲ (now) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ) κατὰ (according to) πίστιν (the faith) ἐκλεκτῶν (of the chosen) Θεοῦ (of God) καὶ (and) ἐπίγνωσιν (the knowledge) ἀληθείας (of the truth) τῆς (that is) κατ’ (according to) εὐσέβειαν (godliness) 2 ἐπ’ (upon) ἐλπίδι (the hope) ζωῆς (of life) αἰωνίου (eternal), ἣν (which) ἐπηγγείλατο (promised) (who) ἀψευδὴς (is without falsehood) Θεὸς (God) πρὸ (before) χρόνων (times) αἰωνίων (eternal), 3 ἐφανέρωσεν (He revealed) δὲ (now) καιροῖς (in seasons) ἰδίοις (His own) τὸν (in the) λόγον (word) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐν (in) κηρύγματι (the proclamation) (with which) ἐπιστεύθην (was entrusted) ἐγὼ (I) κατ’ (according to) ἐπιταγὴν (the command) τοῦ (of the) Σωτῆρος (Savior) ἡμῶν (of us) Θεοῦ (of God),

4 Τίτῳ (To Titus) γνησίῳ (my genuine) τέκνῳ (child) κατὰ (according to) κοινὴν (a common) πίστιν (faith)·

Χάρις (Grace) καὶ (and) εἰρήνη (peace) ἀπὸ (from) Θεοῦ (God) Πατρὸς (the Father) καὶ (and) Χριστοῦ (Christ) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) τοῦ (the) Σωτῆρος (Savior) ἡμῶν (of us).

Appointing Elders on Crete

5 Τούτου (Of this) χάριν (for the sake) ἀπέλιπόν (I left) σε (you) ἐν (in) Κρήτῃ (Crete) ἵνα (that) τὰ (the things) λείποντα (lacking) ἐπιδιορθώσῃ (you might set in order), καὶ (and) καταστήσῃς (might appoint) κατὰ (in every) πόλιν (city) πρεσβυτέρους (elders), ὡς (as) ἐγώ (I) σοι (you) διεταξάμην (directed), 6 εἴ (if) τίς (anyone) ἐστιν (is) ἀνέγκλητος (blameless), μιᾶς (of one) γυναικὸς (wife) ἀνήρ (the husband), τέκνα (children) ἔχων (having) πιστά (believing), μὴ (not) ἐν (under) κατηγορίᾳ (accusation) ἀσωτίας (of debauchery) (or) ἀνυπότακτα (insubordinate).

7 Δεῖ (It is necessary for) γὰρ (for) τὸν (the) ἐπίσκοπον (overseer) ἀνέγκλητον (blameless) εἶναι (to be) ὡς (as) Θεοῦ (God’s) οἰκονόμον (steward), μὴ (not) αὐθάδη (self-pleasing), μὴ (not) ὀργίλον (prone to anger), μὴ (not) πάροινον (given to wine), μὴ (not) πλήκτην (a striker), μὴ (not) αἰσχροκερδῆ (greedy for shameful gain), 8 ἀλλὰ (but) φιλόξενον (hospitable), φιλάγαθον (a lover of good), σώφρονα (sound-minded), δίκαιον (righteous), ὅσιον (holy), ἐγκρατῆ (and self-controlled), 9 ἀντεχόμενον (holding to) τοῦ (the) κατὰ (according to) τὴν (the) διδαχὴν (teaching) πιστοῦ (faithful) λόγου (word), ἵνα (that) δυνατὸς (able) (he may be) καὶ (both) παρακαλεῖν (to exhort) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) διδασκαλίᾳ (teaching) τῇ (-) ὑγιαινούσῃ (sound) καὶ (and) τοὺς (those) ἀντιλέγοντας (contradicting it) ἐλέγχειν (to convict).

Correcting False Teachers
(1 Timothy 1:3–11)

10 Εἰσὶν (There are) γὰρ (for) πολλοὶ (many) καὶ (also) ἀνυπότακτοι (insubordinate ones), ματαιολόγοι (empty talkers) καὶ (and) φρεναπάται (mind-deceivers), μάλιστα (especially) οἱ (those) ἐκ (of) τῆς (the) περιτομῆς (circumcision), 11 οὓς (whom) δεῖ (it is necessary) ἐπιστομίζειν (to silence), οἵτινες (who) ὅλους (whole) οἴκους (households) ἀνατρέπουσιν (overturn) διδάσκοντες (teaching) (things that) μὴ (not to teach) δεῖ (it is necessary) αἰσχροῦ (shameful) κέρδους (gain) χάριν (for the sake of). 12 εἶπέν (Said) τις (one) ἐξ (of) αὐτῶν (them) ἴδιος (own) αὐτῶν (of their) προφήτης (a prophet)· Κρῆτες (Cretans) ἀεὶ (are always) ψεῦσται (liars), κακὰ (evil) θηρία (beasts), γαστέρες (gluttons) ἀργαί (lazy).

13  (The) μαρτυρία (testimony) αὕτη (this) ἐστὶν (is) ἀληθής (true). δι’ (through) ἣν (which) αἰτίαν (cause) ἔλεγχε (you are to rebuke) αὐτοὺς (them) ἀποτόμως (severely), ἵνα (so that) ὑγιαίνωσιν (they may be sound) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) πίστει (faith), 14 μὴ (not) προσέχοντες (giving heed) Ἰουδαϊκοῖς (to Jewish) μύθοις (myths) καὶ (and) ἐντολαῖς (commandments) ἀνθρώπων (of men) ἀποστρεφομένων (turning away from) τὴν (the) ἀλήθειαν (truth).

15 Πάντα (All things are) καθαρὰ (pure) τοῖς (to the) καθαροῖς (pure)· τοῖς (to those) δὲ (however) μεμιαμμένοις (being defiled) καὶ (and) ἀπίστοις (unbelieving) οὐδὲν (nothing) καθαρόν (is pure), ἀλλὰ (But) μεμίανται (are defiled) αὐτῶν (their) καὶ (both) (-) νοῦς (mind) καὶ (and) (-) συνείδησις (conscience). 16 Θεὸν (God) ὁμολογοῦσιν (they profess) εἰδέναι (to know), τοῖς (-) δὲ (however) ἔργοις (in works) ἀρνοῦνται (they deny Him), βδελυκτοὶ (abominable) ὄντες (being) καὶ (and) ἀπειθεῖς (disobedient) καὶ (and) πρὸς (for) πᾶν (any) ἔργον (work) ἀγαθὸν (good) ἀδόκιμοι (unfit).
