1Now the Feast of Unleavened [Bread], called [the] Passover, was approaching, 1Ἤγγιζεν δὲ ἡ ἑορτὴ τῶν ἀζύμων ἡ λεγομένη Πάσχα
2and the chief priests and scribes were looking for a way to put [Jesus] to death; for they feared the people. 2καὶ ἐζήτουν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ γραμματεῖς τὸ πῶς ἀνέλωσιν αὐτόν ἐφοβοῦντο γὰρ τὸν λαόν
3Then Satan entered Judas Iscariot, who was [one] of the Twelve. 3Εἰσῆλθεν δὲ Σατανᾶς εἰς Ἰούδαν τὸν καλούμενον Ἰσκαριώτην ὄντα ἐκ τοῦ ἀριθμοῦ τῶν δώδεκα
4And [Judas] went to discuss with the chief priests and [temple] officers how he might betray [Jesus] to them. 4καὶ ἀπελθὼν συνελάλησεν τοῖς ἀρχιερεῦσιν καὶ στρατηγοῖς τὸ πῶς αὐτοῖς παραδῷ αὐτόν
5They were delighted and agreed to give him money. 5καὶ ἐχάρησαν καὶ συνέθεντο αὐτῷ ἀργύριον δοῦναι
6[Judas] consented, and began to look for [an] opportunity to betray [Jesus] to them in the absence of [a] crowd. 6καὶ ἐξωμολόγησεν καὶ ἐζήτει εὐκαιρίαν τοῦ παραδοῦναι αὐτὸν ἄτερ ὄχλου αὐτοῖς
7Then came the day of Unleavened [Bread] on which the Passover lamb was to be sacrificed. 7Ἦλθεν δὲ ἡ ἡμέρα τῶν ἀζύμων [ἐν] ᾗ ἔδει θύεσθαι τὸ πάσχα
8[Jesus] sent Peter and John, saying, “Go [and] prepare for us to eat the Passover.” 8καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Πέτρον καὶ Ἰωάννην εἰπών Πορευθέντες ἑτοιμάσατε ἡμῖν τὸ πάσχα ἵνα φάγωμεν
9“Where do You want us to prepare [it]?” they asked. 9Οἱ δὲ εἶπαν αὐτῷ Ποῦ θέλεις ἑτοιμάσωμεν
10He answered, “When you enter the city, a man carrying a jug of water will meet you. Follow him to the house he enters, 10Ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ἰδοὺ εἰσελθόντων ὑμῶν εἰς τὴν πόλιν συναντήσει ὑμῖν ἄνθρωπος κεράμιον ὕδατος βαστάζων ἀκολουθήσατε αὐτῷ εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν εἰς ἣν εἰσπορεύεται
11and say to the owner of that house, ‘The Teacher asks, “Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”’ 11καὶ ἐρεῖτε τῷ οἰκοδεσπότῃ τῆς οἰκίας Λέγει σοι ὁ Διδάσκαλος Ποῦ ἐστιν τὸ κατάλυμα ὅπου τὸ πάσχα μετὰ τῶν μαθητῶν μου φάγω
12And he will show you a large, furnished upper room. Make the preparations there.” 12κἀκεῖνος ὑμῖν δείξει ἀνάγαιον μέγα ἐστρωμένον ἐκεῖ ἑτοιμάσατε
13So they went [and] found [it] just as [Jesus] had told them. And they prepared the Passover. 13Ἀπελθόντες δὲ εὗρον καθὼς εἰρήκει αὐτοῖς καὶ ἡτοίμασαν τὸ πάσχα
14When the hour had come, [Jesus] reclined at the table with His apostles. 14Καὶ ὅτε ἐγένετο ἡ ὥρα ἀνέπεσεν καὶ οἱ ἀπόστολοι σὺν αὐτῷ
15And He said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before My suffering. 15καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς Ἐπιθυμίᾳ ἐπεθύμησα τοῦτο τὸ πάσχα φαγεῖν μεθ’ ὑμῶν πρὸ τοῦ με παθεῖν
16For I tell you that I will not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 16λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι 〈οὐκέτι〉 οὐ μὴ φάγω αὐτὸ ἕως ὅτου πληρωθῇ ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τοῦ Θεοῦ
17After taking [the] cup, [He] gave thanks [and] said, “Take this and divide [it] among yourselves. 17Καὶ δεξάμενος ποτήριον εὐχαριστήσας εἶπεν Λάβετε τοῦτο καὶ διαμερίσατε εἰς ἑαυτούς
18For I tell you that I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.” 18λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν [ὅτι] οὐ μὴ πίω ἀπὸ τοῦ νῦν ἀπὸ τοῦ γενήματος τῆς ἀμπέλου ἕως οὗ ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ ἔλθῃ
19And He took [the] bread, gave thanks [and] broke [it], and gave [it] to them, saying, “This is My body, given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 19Καὶ λαβὼν ἄρτον εὐχαριστήσας ἔκλασεν καὶ ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς λέγων Τοῦτό ἐστιν τὸ σῶμά μου τὸ ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν διδόμενον τοῦτο ποιεῖτε εἰς τὴν ἐμὴν ἀνάμνησιν
20In the same way, after supper [He took] the cup, saying, “This cup [is] the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you. 20καὶ τὸ ποτήριον ὡσαύτως μετὰ τὸ δειπνῆσαι λέγων Τοῦτο τὸ ποτήριον ἡ καινὴ διαθήκη ἐν τῷ αἵματί μου τὸ ὑπὲρ ὑμῶν ἐκχυννόμενον
21Look! The hand of My betrayer [is] with Mine on the table. 21Πλὴν ἰδοὺ ἡ χεὶρ τοῦ παραδιδόντος με μετ’ ἐμοῦ ἐπὶ τῆς τραπέζης
22Indeed, the Son of Man will go as it has been determined, but woe to that man who betrays Him.” 22ὅτι ὁ Υἱὸς μὲν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου κατὰ τὸ ὡρισμένον πορεύεται πλὴν οὐαὶ τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ ἐκείνῳ δι’ οὗ παραδίδοται
23Then they began to question among themselves which of them was going to do this. 23Καὶ αὐτοὶ ἤρξαντο συζητεῖν πρὸς ἑαυτοὺς τὸ τίς ἄρα εἴη ἐξ αὐτῶν ὁ τοῦτο μέλλων πράσσειν
24A dispute also arose among [the disciples] [as to] which of them would be considered [the] greatest. 24Ἐγένετο δὲ καὶ φιλονεικία ἐν αὐτοῖς τὸ τίς αὐτῶν δοκεῖ εἶναι μείζων
25So [Jesus] declared, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in authority over them call themselves benefactors. 25ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Οἱ βασιλεῖς τῶν ἐθνῶν κυριεύουσιν αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ ἐξουσιάζοντες αὐτῶν εὐεργέται καλοῦνται
26But you [shall] not [be] like them. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the [one who] leads like the [one who] serves. 26ὑμεῖς δὲ οὐχ οὕτως ἀλλ’ ὁ μείζων ἐν ὑμῖν γινέσθω ὡς ὁ νεώτερος καὶ ὁ ἡγούμενος ὡς ὁ διακονῶν
27For who [is] greater, the [one who] reclines at the table or the [one who] serves? [Is it] not the [one who] reclines? But I am among you as the [One who] serves. 27τίς γὰρ μείζων ὁ ἀνακείμενος ἢ ὁ διακονῶν οὐχὶ ὁ ἀνακείμενος ἐγὼ δὲ ἐν μέσῳ ὑμῶν εἰμι ὡς ὁ διακονῶν
28You are the ones who have stood by Me in My trials. 28Ὑμεῖς δέ ἐστε οἱ διαμεμενηκότες μετ’ ἐμοῦ ἐν τοῖς πειρασμοῖς μου
29And I bestow on you a kingdom, just as My Father has bestowed on Me, 29κἀγὼ διατίθεμαι ὑμῖν καθὼς διέθετό μοι ὁ Πατήρ μου βασιλείαν
30so that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 30ἵνα ἔσθητε καὶ πίνητε ἐπὶ τῆς τραπέζης μου ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ μου καὶ καθήσεσθε ἐπὶ θρόνων τὰς δώδεκα φυλὰς κρίνοντες τοῦ Ἰσραήλ
31Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift each of you like wheat. 31Σίμων Σίμων ἰδοὺ ὁ Σατανᾶς ἐξῃτήσατο ὑμᾶς τοῦ σινιάσαι ὡς τὸν σῖτον
32But I have prayed for you, [ Simon ], that your faith will not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” 32ἐγὼ δὲ ἐδεήθην περὶ σοῦ ἵνα μὴ ἐκλίπῃ ἡ πίστις σου καὶ σύ ποτε ἐπιστρέψας στήρισον τοὺς ἀδελφούς σου
33“Lord,” said [Peter], “I am ready to go with You even to prison and to death.” 33Ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Κύριε μετὰ σοῦ ἕτοιμός εἰμι καὶ εἰς φυλακὴν καὶ εἰς θάνατον πορεύεσθαι
34But [Jesus] replied, “I tell you, Peter, [the] rooster {will} not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me.” 34Ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Λέγω σοι Πέτρε οὐ φωνήσει σήμερον ἀλέκτωρ ἕως τρίς με ἀπαρνήσῃ 〈μὴ〉 εἰδέναι
35Then [Jesus] asked them, “When I sent you out without purse [or] bag [or] sandals, did you lack anything?” “Nothing,” they answered. 35Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ὅτε ἀπέστειλα ὑμᾶς ἄτερ βαλλαντίου καὶ πήρας καὶ ὑποδημάτων μή τινος ὑστερήσατε Οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Οὐθενός
36“Now, however,” He told them, “the [one] with a purse should take [it], and likewise a bag; and the [one] without a sword should sell his cloak and buy [one]. 36Εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Ἀλλὰ νῦν ὁ ἔχων βαλλάντιον ἀράτω ὁμοίως καὶ πήραν καὶ ὁ μὴ ἔχων πωλησάτω τὸ ἱμάτιον αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀγορασάτω μάχαιραν
37For I tell you that this Scripture must be fulfilled in Me: ‘And He was numbered with [the] transgressors.’ For [what is written] about Me is reaching its fulfillment.” 37λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι τοῦτο τὸ γεγραμμένον δεῖ τελεσθῆναι ἐν ἐμοί Τό Καὶ μετὰ ἀνόμων ἐλογίσθη καὶ γὰρ τὸ περὶ ἐμοῦ τέλος ἔχει
38So they said, “Look, Lord, here [are] two swords.” “That is enough,” He answered. 38Οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Κύριε ἰδοὺ μάχαιραι ὧδε δύο Ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ἱκανόν ἐστιν
39[Jesus] went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed Him. 39Καὶ ἐξελθὼν ἐπορεύθη κατὰ τὸ ἔθος εἰς τὸ ὄρος τῶν Ἐλαιῶν ἠκολούθησαν δὲ αὐτῷ καὶ οἱ μαθηταί
40When He came to the place, He told them, “Pray that you will not enter into temptation.” 40γενόμενος δὲ ἐπὶ τοῦ τόπου εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Προσεύχεσθε μὴ εἰσελθεῖν εἰς πειρασμόν
41And He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, [where] He knelt down [and] prayed, 41Καὶ αὐτὸς ἀπεσπάσθη ἀπ’ αὐτῶν ὡσεὶ λίθου βολήν καὶ θεὶς τὰ γόνατα προσηύχετο
42“Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours be done.” 42λέγων Πάτερ εἰ βούλει παρένεγκε τοῦτο τὸ ποτήριον ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ πλὴν μὴ τὸ θέλημά μου ἀλλὰ τὸ σὸν γινέσθω
43Then an angel from heaven appeared to Him [and] strengthened Him. 43Ὤφθη δὲ αὐτῷ ἄγγελος ἀπ’ (τοῦ) οὐρανοῦ ἐνισχύων αὐτόν
44And in [His] anguish, He prayed more earnestly, and His sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground. 44καὶ γενόμενος ἐν ἀγωνίᾳ ἐκτενέστερον προσηύχετο καὶ ἐγένετο ὁ ἱδρὼς αὐτοῦ ὡσεὶ θρόμβοι αἵματος καταβαίνοντες ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν
45When [Jesus] rose from prayer [and] returned to the disciples, He found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. 45Καὶ ἀναστὰς ἀπὸ τῆς προσευχῆς ἐλθὼν πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς εὗρεν κοιμωμένους αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ τῆς λύπης
46“Why are you sleeping?” He asked. “Get up [and] pray so that you will not enter into temptation.” 46καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Τί καθεύδετε ἀναστάντες προσεύχεσθε ἵνα μὴ εἰσέλθητε εἰς πειρασμόν
47While He was still speaking, a crowd arrived, led by the [man] called Judas, one of the Twelve. He approached Jesus to kiss Him. 47Ἔτι αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος ἰδοὺ ὄχλος καὶ ὁ λεγόμενος Ἰούδας εἷς τῶν δώδεκα προήρχετο αὐτούς καὶ ἤγγισεν τῷ Ἰησοῦ φιλῆσαι αὐτόν
48But Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?” 48Ἰησοῦς δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἰούδα φιλήματι τὸν Υἱὸν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδίδως
49Those around [Jesus] saw what was about to happen [and] said, “Lord, should we strike with [our] swords?” 49Ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ περὶ αὐτὸν τὸ ἐσόμενον εἶπαν Κύριε εἰ πατάξομεν ἐν μαχαίρῃ
50And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear. 50καὶ ἐπάταξεν εἷς τις ἐξ αὐτῶν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως τὸν δοῦλον καὶ ἀφεῖλεν τὸ οὖς αὐτοῦ τὸ δεξιόν
51But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And [He] touched the [man’s] ear [and] healed him. 51Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν Ἐᾶτε ἕως τούτου καὶ ἁψάμενος τοῦ ὠτίου ἰάσατο αὐτόν
52Then Jesus said to [the] chief priests, temple officers, and elders who had come for Him, “Have you come out with swords and clubs as [you would] against an outlaw? 52Εἶπεν δὲ Ἰησοῦς πρὸς τοὺς παραγενομένους ἐπ’ αὐτὸν ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ στρατηγοὺς τοῦ ἱεροῦ καὶ πρεσβυτέρους Ὡς ἐπὶ λῃστὴν ἐξήλθατε μετὰ μαχαιρῶν καὶ ξύλων
53Every day I was with you in the temple courts, [and] you did not lay a hand on Me. But this hour belongs to you and to the power of darkness.” 53καθ’ ἡμέραν ὄντος μου μεθ’ ὑμῶν ἐν τῷ ἱερῷ οὐκ ἐξετείνατε τὰς χεῖρας ἐπ’ ἐμέ ἀλλ’ αὕτη ἐστὶν ὑμῶν ἡ ὥρα καὶ ἡ ἐξουσία τοῦ σκότους
54Then they seized [Jesus], led [Him] away, and took [Him] into the house of the high priest. And Peter followed at a distance. 54Συλλαβόντες δὲ αὐτὸν ἤγαγον καὶ εἰσήγαγον εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν τοῦ ἀρχιερέως ὁ δὲ Πέτρος ἠκολούθει μακρόθεν
55[When] [those present] had kindled a fire in [the] middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat down among them. 55Περιαψάντων δὲ πῦρ ἐν μέσῳ τῆς αὐλῆς καὶ συνκαθισάντων ἐκάθητο ὁ Πέτρος μέσος αὐτῶν
56A servant girl saw him seated in the firelight and looked intently at him. “This [man] was also with Him,” she said. 56ἰδοῦσα δὲ αὐτὸν παιδίσκη τις καθήμενον πρὸς τὸ φῶς καὶ ἀτενίσασα αὐτῷ εἶπεν Καὶ οὗτος σὺν αὐτῷ ἦν
57But [Peter] denied [it]. “Woman, I do not know Him,” he said. 57Ὁ δὲ ἠρνήσατο λέγων Οὐκ οἶδα αὐτόν γύναι
58A short time later, someone else saw him [and] said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.” 58Καὶ μετὰ βραχὺ ἕτερος ἰδὼν αὐτὸν ἔφη Καὶ σὺ ἐξ αὐτῶν εἶ Ὁ δὲ Πέτρος ἔφη Ἄνθρωπε οὐκ εἰμί
59About an hour later, another [man] insisted, “Certainly this [man] was with Him, for he too is a Galilean.” 59Καὶ διαστάσης ὡσεὶ ὥρας μιᾶς ἄλλος τις διϊσχυρίζετο λέγων Ἐπ’ ἀληθείας καὶ οὗτος μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἦν καὶ γὰρ Γαλιλαῖός ἐστιν
60“Man, I do not know what you are talking about,” Peter replied. While he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. 60Εἶπεν δὲ ὁ Πέτρος Ἄνθρωπε οὐκ οἶδα ὃ λέγεις καὶ παραχρῆμα ἔτι λαλοῦντος αὐτοῦ ἐφώνησεν ἀλέκτωρ
61And the Lord turned [and] looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before [the] rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times.” 61καὶ στραφεὶς ὁ Κύριος ἐνέβλεψεν τῷ Πέτρῳ καὶ ὑπεμνήσθη ὁ Πέτρος τοῦ λόγου τοῦ Κυρίου ὡς εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὅτι Πρὶν ἀλέκτορα φωνῆσαι σήμερον ἀπαρνήσῃ με τρίς
62And he went outside [and] wept bitterly. 62καὶ ἐξελθὼν ἔξω ἔκλαυσεν πικρῶς
63The men who were holding [Jesus] began to mock Him [and] beat [Him]. 63Καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες οἱ συνέχοντες αὐτὸν ἐνέπαιζον αὐτῷ δέροντες
64They blindfolded Him [and] kept demanding, “Prophesy! Who hit You?” 64καὶ περικαλύψαντες αὐτὸν ⧼ἔτυπτον αὐτοῦ τὸ πρόσωπον καὶ⧽ ἐπηρώτων λέγοντες Προφήτευσον τίς ἐστιν ὁ παίσας σε
65And they said many {other} blasphemous things against Him. 65καὶ ἕτερα πολλὰ βλασφημοῦντες ἔλεγον εἰς αὐτόν
66At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both [the] chief priests and scribes, met together. They led Jesus into their council [and] said, 66Καὶ ὡς ἐγένετο ἡμέρα συνήχθη τὸ πρεσβυτέριον τοῦ λαοῦ ἀρχιερεῖς τε καὶ γραμματεῖς καὶ ἀπήγαγον αὐτὸν εἰς τὸ συνέδριον αὐτῶν λέγοντες
67“If You are the Christ, tell us.” [Jesus] answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe. 67Εἰ σὺ εἶ ὁ Χριστός εἰπὸν ἡμῖν Εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Ἐὰν ὑμῖν εἴπω οὐ μὴ πιστεύσητε
68And if I ask [you] a question, you will not answer. 68ἐὰν δὲ ἐρωτήσω οὐ μὴ ἀποκριθῆτε
69But from now on the Son of Man will be seated at [the] right hand of the power of God.” 69ἀπὸ τοῦ νῦν δὲ ἔσται ὁ Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου καθήμενος ἐκ δεξιῶν τῆς δυνάμεως τοῦ Θεοῦ
70So they all asked, “Are You then the Son of God?” He replied, “You say that I am.” 70Εἶπαν δὲ πάντες Σὺ οὖν εἶ ὁ Υἱὸς τοῦ Θεοῦ Ὁ δὲ πρὸς αὐτοὺς ἔφη Ὑμεῖς λέγετε ὅτι ἐγώ εἰμι
71“Why do we need any more testimony?” they declared. “We have heard [it] for ourselves from His own lips.” 71Οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Τί ἔτι ἔχομεν μαρτυρίας χρείαν αὐτοὶ γὰρ ἠκούσαμεν ἀπὸ τοῦ στόματος αὐτοῦ
