Prologue
(Daniel 12:1–13)

1 Ἀποκάλυψις (The revelation) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ἣν (which) ἔδωκεν (gave) αὐτῷ (to Him) ὁ (-) Θεός (God), δεῖξαι (to show) τοῖς (to the) δούλοις (servants) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἃ (what) δεῖ (is necessary) γενέσθαι (to take place) ἐν (in) τάχει (quickness), καὶ (And) ἐσήμανεν (He signified it) ἀποστείλας (having sent) διὰ (through) τοῦ (the) ἀγγέλου (angel) αὐτοῦ (of Him), τῷ (to the) δούλῳ (servant) αὐτοῦ (of Him) Ἰωάννῃ (John), 2 ὃς (who) ἐμαρτύρησεν (testified) τὸν (to the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) καὶ (and) τὴν (to the) μαρτυρίαν (testimony) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ὅσα (as much as) εἶδεν (he saw).

3 Μακάριος (Blessed is) ὁ (the one) ἀναγινώσκων (reading) καὶ (and) οἱ (those) ἀκούοντες (hearing) τοὺς (the) λόγους (words) τῆς (of the) προφητείας (prophecy) καὶ (and) τηροῦντες (keeping) τὰ (the things) ἐν (in) αὐτῇ (it) γεγραμμένα (written)· ὁ (-) γὰρ (for) καιρὸς (the time is) ἐγγύς (near).

4 Ἰωάννης (John)

Ταῖς (To the) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἐκκλησίαις (churches) ταῖς (-) ἐν (in) τῇ (-) Ἀσίᾳ (Asia)·

Χάρις (Grace) ὑμῖν (to you⁺) καὶ (and) εἰρήνη (peace) ἀπὸ (from) ὁ (the One who) ὢν (is) καὶ (and) ὁ (who) ἦν (was) καὶ (and) ὁ (who) ἐρχόμενος (is coming), καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (from) τῶν (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) Πνευμάτων (Spirits) ἃ (-) ἐνώπιον (before) τοῦ (the) θρόνου (throne) αὐτοῦ (of Him), 5 καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (from) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus) Χριστοῦ (Christ), ὁ (the) μάρτυς (witness) ὁ (-) πιστός (faithful), ὁ (the) πρωτότοκος (firstborn) τῶν (of the) νεκρῶν (dead) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ἄρχων (ruler) τῶν (of the) βασιλέων (kings) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth).

Τῷ (To the One) ἀγαπῶντι (loving) ἡμᾶς (us) καὶ (and) λύσαντι (releasing) ἡμᾶς (us) ἐκ (from) τῶν (the) ἁμαρτιῶν (sins) ἡμῶν (of us) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) αἵματι (blood) αὐτοῦ (of Him), 6 καὶ (and) ἐποίησεν (He made) ἡμᾶς (us) βασιλείαν (a kingdom), ἱερεῖς (priests) τῷ (to the) Θεῷ (God) καὶ (and) Πατρὶ (Father) αὐτοῦ (of Him), αὐτῷ (to Him be) ἡ (the) δόξα (glory) καὶ (and) τὸ (the) κράτος (dominion) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages)· ἀμήν (Amen).

7 Ἰδοὺ (Behold) ἔρχεται (He is coming) μετὰ (with) τῶν (the) νεφελῶν (clouds), καὶ (and) ὄψεται (will see) αὐτὸν (Him) πᾶς (every) ὀφθαλμὸς (eye) καὶ (even) οἵτινες (those who) αὐτὸν (Him) ἐξεκέντησαν (pierced), καὶ (and) κόψονται (will wail) ἐπ’ (because of) αὐτὸν (Him) πᾶσαι (all) αἱ (the) φυλαὶ (tribes) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth). ναί (Yes), ἀμήν (Amen).

8 Ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) τὸ (the) Ἄλφα (Alpha) καὶ (and) τὸ (the) Ὦ (Omega), λέγει (says) Κύριος (the Lord) ὁ (-) Θεός (God), ὁ (the One who) ὢν (is) καὶ (and) ὁ (who) ἦν (was) καὶ (and) ὁ (who) ἐρχόμενος (is coming), ὁ (the) Παντοκράτωρ (Almighty).

9 Ἐγὼ (I) Ἰωάννης (John), ὁ (the) ἀδελφὸς (brother) ὑμῶν (of you⁺) καὶ (and) συνκοινωνὸς (fellow partaker) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) θλίψει (tribulation) καὶ (and) βασιλείᾳ (kingdom) καὶ (and) ὑπομονῇ (endurance) ἐν (in) Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), ἐγενόμην (was) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) νήσῳ (island) τῇ (-) καλουμένῃ (called) Πάτμῳ (Patmos) διὰ (because of) τὸν (the) λόγον (word) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) μαρτυρίαν (testimony) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus). 10 ἐγενόμην (I was) ἐν (in) Πνεύματι (the Spirit) ἐν (on) τῇ (the) κυριακῇ (Lord’s) ἡμέρᾳ (day), καὶ (and) ἤκουσα (I heard) ὀπίσω (behind) μου (me) φωνὴν (a voice) μεγάλην (loud) ὡς (like that) σάλπιγγος (of a trumpet) 11 λεγούσης (saying)· Ὃ (What) βλέπεις (you see) γράψον (write) εἰς (in) βιβλίον (a book) καὶ (and) πέμψον (send) ταῖς (to the) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἐκκλησίαις (churches), εἰς (to) Ἔφεσον (Ephesus) καὶ (and) εἰς (to) Σμύρναν (Smyrna) καὶ (and) εἰς (to) Πέργαμον (Pergamum) καὶ (and) εἰς (to) Θυάτειρα (Thyatira) καὶ (and) εἰς (to) Σάρδεις (Sardis) καὶ (and) εἰς (to) Φιλαδέλφειαν (Philadelphia) καὶ (and) εἰς (to) Λαοδίκειαν (Laodicea).

12 Καὶ (And) ἐπέστρεψα (I turned) βλέπειν (to see) τὴν (the) φωνὴν (voice) ἥτις (that) ἐλάλει (was speaking) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (me)· καὶ (And) ἐπιστρέψας (having turned) εἶδον (I saw) ἑπτὰ (seven) λυχνίας (lampstands) χρυσᾶς (golden), 13 καὶ (and) ἐν (in) μέσῳ (the midst) τῶν (of the) λυχνιῶν (lampstands) ὅμοιον (One like) υἱὸν (the Son) ἀνθρώπου (of Man), ἐνδεδυμένον (dressed) ποδήρη (to the foot) καὶ (and) περιεζωσμένον (girded around) πρὸς (at) τοῖς (the) μαστοῖς (breasts) ζώνην (with a sash) χρυσᾶν (golden)· 14 ἡ (-) δὲ (And) κεφαλὴ (the head) αὐτοῦ (of Him) καὶ (and) αἱ (the) τρίχες (hairs) λευκαὶ (were white) ὡς (as) ἔριον (wool) λευκόν (white) ὡς (as) χιών (snow), καὶ (and) οἱ (the) ὀφθαλμοὶ (eyes) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὡς (as) φλὸξ (a flame) πυρός (of fire), 15 καὶ (and) οἱ (the) πόδες (feet) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὅμοιοι (like) χαλκολιβάνῳ (burnished bronze) ὡς (as) ἐν (in) καμίνῳ (a furnace) πεπυρωμένης (having been refined), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) φωνὴ (voice) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὡς (as) φωνὴ (a voice) ὑδάτων (of waters) πολλῶν (many), 16 καὶ (and) ἔχων (having) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) δεξιᾷ (right) χειρὶ (hand) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἀστέρας (stars) ἑπτά (seven), καὶ (and) ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) στόματος (mouth) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ῥομφαία (a sword) δίστομος (two-edged) ὀξεῖα (sharp) ἐκπορευομένη (is going forth), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) ὄψις (face) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὡς (is as) ὁ (the) ἥλιος (sun) φαίνει (shining) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) δυνάμει (power) αὐτοῦ (of it).

17 Καὶ (And) ὅτε (when) εἶδον (I saw) αὐτόν (Him), ἔπεσα (I fell) πρὸς (at) τοὺς (the) πόδας (feet) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ὡς (as) νεκρός (dead)· καὶ (And) ἔθηκεν (He placed) τὴν (the) δεξιὰν (right hand) αὐτοῦ (of Him) ἐπ’ (upon) ἐμὲ (me) λέγων (saying)· Μὴ (Not) φοβοῦ (fear)· ἐγώ (I) εἰμι (am) ὁ (the) πρῶτος (First) καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ἔσχατος (Last) 18 καὶ (and) ὁ (the) Ζῶν (Living One), καὶ (and) ἐγενόμην (I became) νεκρὸς (dead) καὶ (and) ἰδοὺ (behold) ζῶν (living) εἰμι (I am) εἰς (to) τοὺς (the) αἰῶνας (ages) τῶν (of the) αἰώνων (ages), καὶ (and) ἔχω (I have) τὰς (the) κλεῖς (keys) τοῦ (of) θανάτου (Death) καὶ (and) τοῦ (of) ᾅδου (Hades).

19 Γράψον (Write) οὖν (therefore) ἃ (the things that) εἶδες (you saw) καὶ (and) ἃ (the things that) εἰσὶν (are) καὶ (and) ἃ (the things that) μέλλει (are about) γενέσθαι (to take place) μετὰ (after) ταῦτα (these). 20 τὸ (the) μυστήριον (mystery) τῶν (of the) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἀστέρων (stars) οὓς (which) εἶδες (you saw) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) δεξιᾶς (right hand) μου (of Me), καὶ (and) τὰς (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) λυχνίας (lampstands) τὰς (-) χρυσᾶς (golden)· οἱ (The) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἀστέρες (stars) ἄγγελοι (the angels) τῶν (of the) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἐκκλησιῶν (churches) εἰσίν (are), καὶ (and) αἱ (the) λυχνίαι (lampstands) αἱ (-) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἑπτὰ (the seven) ἐκκλησίαι (churches) εἰσίν (are).
