New Living TranslationEnglish Standard Version
Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the LORD.1Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD!
Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts.2Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart,
They do not compromise with evil, and they walk only in his paths.3who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways!
You have charged us to keep your commandments carefully.4You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently.
Oh, that my actions would consistently reflect your decrees!5Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes!
Then I will not be ashamed when I compare my life with your commands.6Then I shall not be put to shame, having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.
As I learn your righteous regulations, I will thank you by living as I should!7I will praise you with an upright heart, when I learn your righteous rules.
I will obey your decrees. Please don’t give up on me! Beth8I will keep your statutes; do not utterly forsake me!
How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word.9How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.
I have tried hard to find you— don’t let me wander from your commands.10With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments!
I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.11I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
I praise you, O LORD; teach me your decrees.12Blessed are you, O LORD; teach me your statutes!
I have recited aloud all the regulations you have given us.13With my lips I declare all the rules of your mouth.
I have rejoiced in your laws as much as in riches.14In the way of your testimonies I delight as much as in all riches.
I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways.15I will meditate on your precepts and fix my eyes on your ways.
I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word. Gimel16I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.
Be good to your servant, that I may live and obey your word.17Deal bountifully with your servant, that I may live and keep your word.
Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions.18Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.
I am only a foreigner in the land. Don’t hide your commands from me!19I am a sojourner on the earth; hide not your commandments from me!
I am always overwhelmed with a desire for your regulations.20My soul is consumed with longing for your rules at all times.
You rebuke the arrogant; those who wander from your commands are cursed.21You rebuke the insolent, accursed ones, who wander from your commandments.
Don’t let them scorn and insult me, for I have obeyed your laws.22Take away from me scorn and contempt, for I have kept your testimonies.
Even princes sit and speak against me, but I will meditate on your decrees.23Even though princes sit plotting against me, your servant will meditate on your statutes.
Your laws please me; they give me wise advice. Daleth24Your testimonies are my delight; they are my counselors.
I lie in the dust; revive me by your word.25My soul clings to the dust; give me life according to your word!
I told you my plans, and you answered. Now teach me your decrees.26When I told of my ways, you answered me; teach me your statutes!
Help me understand the meaning of your commandments, and I will meditate on your wonderful deeds.27Make me understand the way of your precepts, and I will meditate on your wondrous works.
I weep with sorrow; encourage me by your word.28My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to your word!
Keep me from lying to myself; give me the privilege of knowing your instructions.29Put false ways far from me and graciously teach me your law!
I have chosen to be faithful; I have determined to live by your regulations.30I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I set your rules before me.
I cling to your laws. LORD, don’t let me be put to shame!31I cling to your testimonies, O LORD; let me not be put to shame!
I will pursue your commands, for you expand my understanding. He32I will run in the way of your commandments when you enlarge my heart!
Teach me your decrees, O LORD; I will keep them to the end.33Teach me, O LORD, the way of your statutes; and I will keep it to the end.
Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions; I will put them into practice with all my heart.34Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart.
Make me walk along the path of your commands, for that is where my happiness is found.35Lead me in the path of your commandments, for I delight in it.
Give me an eagerness for your laws rather than a love for money!36Incline my heart to your testimonies, and not to selfish gain!
Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through your word.37Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways.
Reassure me of your promise, made to those who fear you.38Confirm to your servant your promise, that you may be feared.
Help me abandon my shameful ways; for your regulations are good.39Turn away the reproach that I dread, for your rules are good.
I long to obey your commandments! Renew my life with your goodness. Waw40Behold, I long for your precepts; in your righteousness give me life!
LORD, give me your unfailing love, the salvation that you promised me.41Let your steadfast love come to me, O LORD, your salvation according to your promise;
Then I can answer those who taunt me, for I trust in your word.42then shall I have an answer for him who taunts me, for I trust in your word.
Do not snatch your word of truth from me, for your regulations are my only hope.43And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth, for my hope is in your rules.
I will keep on obeying your instructions forever and ever.44I will keep your law continually, forever and ever,
I will walk in freedom, for I have devoted myself to your commandments.45and I shall walk in a wide place, for I have sought your precepts.
I will speak to kings about your laws, and I will not be ashamed.46I will also speak of your testimonies before kings and shall not be put to shame,
How I delight in your commands! How I love them!47for I find my delight in your commandments, which I love.
I honor and love your commands. I meditate on your decrees. Zayin48I will lift up my hands toward your commandments, which I love, and I will meditate on your statutes.
Remember your promise to me; it is my only hope.49Remember your word to your servant, in which you have made me hope.
Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles.50This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.
The proud hold me in utter contempt, but I do not turn away from your instructions.51The insolent utterly deride me, but I do not turn away from your law.
I meditate on your age-old regulations; O LORD, they comfort me.52When I think of your rules from of old, I take comfort, O LORD.
I become furious with the wicked, because they reject your instructions.53Hot indignation seizes me because of the wicked, who forsake your law.
Your decrees have been the theme of my songs wherever I have lived.54Your statutes have been my songs in the house of my sojourning.
I reflect at night on who you are, O LORD; therefore, I obey your instructions.55I remember your name in the night, O LORD, and keep your law.
This is how I spend my life: obeying your commandments. Heth56This blessing has fallen to me, that I have kept your precepts.
LORD, you are mine! I promise to obey your words!57The LORD is my portion; I promise to keep your words.
With all my heart I want your blessings. Be merciful as you promised.58I entreat your favor with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise.
I pondered the direction of my life, and I turned to follow your laws.59When I think on my ways, I turn my feet to your testimonies;
I will hurry, without delay, to obey your commands.60I hasten and do not delay to keep your commandments.
Evil people try to drag me into sin, but I am firmly anchored to your instructions.61Though the cords of the wicked ensnare me, I do not forget your law.
I rise at midnight to thank you for your just regulations.62At midnight I rise to praise you, because of your righteous rules.
I am a friend to anyone who fears you— anyone who obeys your commandments.63I am a companion of all who fear you, of those who keep your precepts.
O LORD, your unfailing love fills the earth; teach me your decrees. Teth64The earth, O LORD, is full of your steadfast love; teach me your statutes!
You have done many good things for me, LORD, just as you promised.65You have dealt well with your servant, O LORD, according to your word.
I believe in your commands; now teach me good judgment and knowledge.66Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in your commandments.
I used to wander off until you disciplined me; but now I closely follow your word.67Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word.
You are good and do only good; teach me your decrees.68You are good and do good; teach me your statutes.
Arrogant people smear me with lies, but in truth I obey your commandments with all my heart.69The insolent smear me with lies, but with my whole heart I keep your precepts;
Their hearts are dull and stupid, but I delight in your instructions.70their heart is unfeeling like fat, but I delight in your law.
My suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to your decrees.71It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes.
Your instructions are more valuable to me than millions in gold and silver. Yodh72The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces.
You made me; you created me. Now give me the sense to follow your commands.73Your hands have made and fashioned me; give me understanding that I may learn your commandments.
May all who fear you find in me a cause for joy, for I have put my hope in your word.74Those who fear you shall see me and rejoice, because I have hoped in your word.
I know, O LORD, that your regulations are fair; you disciplined me because I needed it.75I know, O LORD, that your rules are righteous, and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me.
Now let your unfailing love comfort me, just as you promised me, your servant.76Let your steadfast love comfort me according to your promise to your servant.
Surround me with your tender mercies so I may live, for your instructions are my delight.77Let your mercy come to me, that I may live; for your law is my delight.
Bring disgrace upon the arrogant people who lied about me; meanwhile, I will concentrate on your commandments.78Let the insolent be put to shame, because they have wronged me with falsehood; as for me, I will meditate on your precepts.
Let me be united with all who fear you, with those who know your laws.79Let those who fear you turn to me, that they may know your testimonies.
May I be blameless in keeping your decrees; then I will never be ashamed. Kaph80May my heart be blameless in your statutes, that I may not be put to shame!
I am worn out waiting for your rescue, but I have put my hope in your word.81My soul longs for your salvation; I hope in your word.
My eyes are straining to see your promises come true. When will you comfort me?82My eyes long for your promise; I ask, “When will you comfort me?”
I am shriveled like a wineskin in the smoke, but I have not forgotten to obey your decrees.83For I have become like a wineskin in the smoke, yet I have not forgotten your statutes.
How long must I wait? When will you punish those who persecute me?84How long must your servant endure? When will you judge those who persecute me?
These arrogant people who hate your instructions have dug deep pits to trap me.85The insolent have dug pitfalls for me; they do not live according to your law.
All your commands are trustworthy. Protect me from those who hunt me down without cause.86All your commandments are sure; they persecute me with falsehood; help me!
They almost finished me off, but I refused to abandon your commandments.87They have almost made an end of me on earth, but I have not forsaken your precepts.
In your unfailing love, spare my life; then I can continue to obey your laws. Lamedh88In your steadfast love give me life, that I may keep the testimonies of your mouth.
Your eternal word, O LORD, stands firm in heaven.89Forever, O LORD, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens.
Your faithfulness extends to every generation, as enduring as the earth you created.90Your faithfulness endures to all generations; you have established the earth, and it stands fast.
Your regulations remain true to this day, for everything serves your plans.91By your appointment they stand this day, for all things are your servants.
If your instructions hadn’t sustained me with joy, I would have died in my misery.92If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.
I will never forget your commandments, for by them you give me life.93I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have given me life.
I am yours; rescue me! For I have worked hard at obeying your commandments.94I am yours; save me, for I have sought your precepts.
Though the wicked hide along the way to kill me, I will quietly keep my mind on your laws.95The wicked lie in wait to destroy me, but I consider your testimonies.
Even perfection has its limits, but your commands have no limit. Mem96I have seen a limit to all perfection, but your commandment is exceedingly broad.
Oh, how I love your instructions! I think about them all day long.97Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.
Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are my constant guide.98Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me.
Yes, I have more insight than my teachers, for I am always thinking of your laws.99I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation.
I am even wiser than my elders, for I have kept your commandments.100I understand more than the aged, for I keep your precepts.
I have refused to walk on any evil path, so that I may remain obedient to your word.101I hold back my feet from every evil way, in order to keep your word.
I haven’t turned away from your regulations, for you have taught me well.102I do not turn aside from your rules, for you have taught me.
How sweet your words taste to me; they are sweeter than honey.103How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Your commandments give me understanding; no wonder I hate every false way of life. Nun104Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.
Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.105Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
I’ve promised it once, and I’ll promise it again: I will obey your righteous regulations.106I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to keep your righteous rules.
I have suffered much, O LORD; restore my life again as you promised.107I am severely afflicted; give me life, O LORD, according to your word!
LORD, accept my offering of praise, and teach me your regulations.108Accept my freewill offerings of praise, O LORD, and teach me your rules.
My life constantly hangs in the balance, but I will not stop obeying your instructions.109I hold my life in my hand continually, but I do not forget your law.
The wicked have set their traps for me, but I will not turn from your commandments.110The wicked have laid a snare for me, but I do not stray from your precepts.
Your laws are my treasure; they are my heart’s delight.111Your testimonies are my heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart.
I am determined to keep your decrees to the very end. Samekh112I incline my heart to perform your statutes forever, to the end.
I hate those with divided loyalties, but I love your instructions.113I hate the double-minded, but I love your law.
You are my refuge and my shield; your word is my source of hope.114You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word.
Get out of my life, you evil-minded people, for I intend to obey the commands of my God.115Depart from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commandments of my God.
LORD, sustain me as you promised, that I may live! Do not let my hope be crushed.116Uphold me according to your promise, that I may live, and let me not be put to shame in my hope!
Sustain me, and I will be rescued; then I will meditate continually on your decrees.117Hold me up, that I may be safe and have regard for your statutes continually!
But you have rejected all who stray from your decrees. They are only fooling themselves.118You spurn all who go astray from your statutes, for their cunning is in vain.
You skim off the wicked of the earth like scum; no wonder I love to obey your laws!119All the wicked of the earth you discard like dross, therefore I love your testimonies.
I tremble in fear of you; I stand in awe of your regulations. Ayin120My flesh trembles for fear of you, and I am afraid of your judgments.
Don’t leave me to the mercy of my enemies, for I have done what is just and right.121I have done what is just and right; do not leave me to my oppressors.
Please guarantee a blessing for me. Don’t let the arrogant oppress me!122Give your servant a pledge of good; let not the insolent oppress me.
My eyes strain to see your rescue, to see the truth of your promise fulfilled.123My eyes long for your salvation and for the fulfillment of your righteous promise.
I am your servant; deal with me in unfailing love, and teach me your decrees.124Deal with your servant according to your steadfast love, and teach me your statutes.
Give discernment to me, your servant; then I will understand your laws.125I am your servant; give me understanding, that I may know your testimonies!
LORD, it is time for you to act, for these evil people have violated your instructions.126It is time for the LORD to act, for your law has been broken.
Truly, I love your commands more than gold, even the finest gold.127Therefore I love your commandments above gold, above fine gold.
Each of your commandments is right. That is why I hate every false way. Pe128Therefore I consider all your precepts to be right; I hate every false way.
Your laws are wonderful. No wonder I obey them!129Your testimonies are wonderful; therefore my soul keeps them.
The teaching of your word gives light, so even the simple can understand.130The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.
I pant with expectation, longing for your commands.131I open my mouth and pant, because I long for your commandments.
Come and show me your mercy, as you do for all who love your name.132Turn to me and be gracious to me, as is your way with those who love your name.
Guide my steps by your word, so I will not be overcome by evil.133Keep steady my steps according to your promise, and let no iniquity get dominion over me.
Ransom me from the oppression of evil people; then I can obey your commandments.134Redeem me from man’s oppression, that I may keep your precepts.
Look upon me with love; teach me your decrees.135Make your face shine upon your servant, and teach me your statutes.
Rivers of tears gush from my eyes because people disobey your instructions. Tsadhe136My eyes shed streams of tears, because people do not keep your law.
O LORD, you are righteous, and your regulations are fair.137Righteous are you, O LORD, and right are your rules.
Your laws are perfect and completely trustworthy.138You have appointed your testimonies in righteousness and in all faithfulness.
I am overwhelmed with indignation, for my enemies have disregarded your words.139My zeal consumes me, because my foes forget your words.
Your promises have been thoroughly tested; that is why I love them so much.140Your promise is well tried, and your servant loves it.
I am insignificant and despised, but I don’t forget your commandments.141I am small and despised, yet I do not forget your precepts.
Your justice is eternal, and your instructions are perfectly true.142Your righteousness is righteous forever, and your law is true.
As pressure and stress bear down on me, I find joy in your commands.143Trouble and anguish have found me out, but your commandments are my delight.
Your laws are always right; help me to understand them so I may live. Qoph144Your testimonies are righteous forever; give me understanding that I may live.
I pray with all my heart; answer me, LORD! I will obey your decrees.145With my whole heart I cry; answer me, O LORD! I will keep your statutes.
I cry out to you; rescue me, that I may obey your laws.146I call to you; save me, that I may observe your testimonies.
I rise early, before the sun is up; I cry out for help and put my hope in your words.147I rise before dawn and cry for help; I hope in your words.
I stay awake through the night, thinking about your promise.148My eyes are awake before the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promise.
In your faithful love, O LORD, hear my cry; let me be revived by following your regulations.149Hear my voice according to your steadfast love; O LORD, according to your justice give me life.
Lawless people are coming to attack me; they live far from your instructions.150They draw near who persecute me with evil purpose; they are far from your law.
But you are near, O LORD, and all your commands are true.151But you are near, O LORD, and all your commandments are true.
I have known from my earliest days that your laws will last forever. Resh152Long have I known from your testimonies that you have founded them forever.
Look upon my suffering and rescue me, for I have not forgotten your instructions.153Look on my affliction and deliver me, for I do not forget your law.
Argue my case; take my side! Protect my life as you promised.154Plead my cause and redeem me; give me life according to your promise!
The wicked are far from rescue, for they do not bother with your decrees.155Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek your statutes.
LORD, how great is your mercy; let me be revived by following your regulations.156Great is your mercy, O LORD; give me life according to your rules.
Many persecute and trouble me, yet I have not swerved from your laws.157Many are my persecutors and my adversaries, but I do not swerve from your testimonies.
Seeing these traitors makes me sick at heart, because they care nothing for your word.158I look at the faithless with disgust, because they do not keep your commands.
See how I love your commandments, LORD. Give back my life because of your unfailing love.159Consider how I love your precepts! Give me life according to your steadfast love.
The very essence of your words is truth; all your just regulations will stand forever. Shin160The sum of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous rules endures forever.
Powerful people harass me without cause, but my heart trembles only at your word.161Princes persecute me without cause, but my heart stands in awe of your words.
I rejoice in your word like one who discovers a great treasure.162I rejoice at your word like one who finds great spoil.
I hate and abhor all falsehood, but I love your instructions.163I hate and abhor falsehood, but I love your law.
I will praise you seven times a day because all your regulations are just.164Seven times a day I praise you for your righteous rules.
Those who love your instructions have great peace and do not stumble.165Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble.
I long for your rescue, LORD, so I have obeyed your commands.166I hope for your salvation, O LORD, and I do your commandments.
I have obeyed your laws, for I love them very much.167My soul keeps your testimonies; I love them exceedingly.
Yes, I obey your commandments and laws because you know everything I do. Taw168I keep your precepts and testimonies, for all my ways are before you.
O LORD, listen to my cry; give me the discerning mind you promised.169Let my cry come before you, O LORD; give me understanding according to your word!
Listen to my prayer; rescue me as you promised.170Let my plea come before you; deliver me according to your word.
Let praise flow from my lips, for you have taught me your decrees.171My lips will pour forth praise, for you teach me your statutes.
Let my tongue sing about your word, for all your commands are right.172My tongue will sing of your word, for all your commandments are right.
Give me a helping hand, for I have chosen to follow your commandments.173Let your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts.
O LORD, I have longed for your rescue, and your instructions are my delight.174I long for your salvation, O LORD, and your law is my delight.
Let me live so I can praise you, and may your regulations help me.175Let my soul live and praise you, and let your rules help me.
I have wandered away like a lost sheep; come and find me, for I have not forgotten your commands.176I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek your servant, for I do not forget your commandments.
