After these things the Lord appointed seventy others also, and sent them two by two before His face into every city and place where He Himself was about to go.1Μετὰ δὲ ταῦτα ἀνέδειξεν Κύριος ‹καὶ› ἑτέρους ἑβδομήκοντα ‹δύο› καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτοὺς ἀνὰ δύο ‹δύο› πρὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ εἰς πᾶσαν πόλιν καὶ τόπον οὗ ἤμελλεν αὐτὸς ἔρχεσθαι
Then He said to them, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.2ἔλεγεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτούς μὲν θερισμὸς πολύς οἱ δὲ ἐργάται ὀλίγοι δεήθητε οὖν τοῦ Κυρίου τοῦ θερισμοῦ ὅπως ἐργάτας ἐκβάλῃ εἰς τὸν θερισμὸν αὐτοῦ
Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs among wolves.3Ὑπάγετε ἰδοὺ ἀποστέλλω ὑμᾶς ὡς ἄρνας ἐν μέσῳ λύκων
Carry neither money bag, knapsack, nor sandals; and greet no one along the road.4μὴ βαστάζετε βαλλάντιον μὴ πήραν μὴ ὑποδήματα καὶ μηδένα κατὰ τὴν ὁδὸν ἀσπάσησθε
But whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’5Εἰς ἣν δ’ ἂν εἰσέλθητε οἰκίαν πρῶτον λέγετε Εἰρήνη τῷ οἴκῳ τούτῳ
And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on it; if not, it will return to you.6καὶ ἐὰν ἐκεῖ υἱὸς εἰρήνης ἐπαναπαήσεται ἐπ’ αὐτὸν εἰρήνη ὑμῶν εἰ δὲ μή¦γε ἐφ’ ὑμᾶς ἀνακάμψει
And remain in the same house, eating and drinking such things as they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house.7ἐν αὐτῇ δὲ τῇ οἰκίᾳ μένετε ἐσθίοντες* καὶ πίνοντες τὰ παρ’ αὐτῶν ἄξιος γὰρ ἐργάτης τοῦ μισθοῦ αὐτοῦ μὴ μεταβαίνετε ἐξ οἰκίας εἰς οἰκίαν
Whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you.8Καὶ εἰς ἣν ἂν πόλιν εἰσέρχησθε καὶ δέχωνται ὑμᾶς ἐσθίετε τὰ παρατιθέμενα ὑμῖν
And heal the sick there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’9καὶ θεραπεύετε τοὺς ἐν αὐτῇ ἀσθενεῖς καὶ λέγετε αὐτοῖς Ἤγγικεν ἐφ’ ὑμᾶς βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ
But whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say,10Εἰς ἣν δ’ ἂν πόλιν εἰσέλθητε καὶ μὴ δέχωνται ὑμᾶς ἐξελθόντες εἰς τὰς πλατείας αὐτῆς εἴπατε
‘The very dust of your city which clings to us we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near you.’11Καὶ τὸν κονιορτὸν τὸν κολληθέντα ἡμῖν ἐκ τῆς πόλεως ὑμῶν εἰς τοὺς πόδας ἀπομασσόμεθα ὑμῖν πλὴν τοῦτο γινώσκετε ὅτι ἤγγικεν βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ
But I say to you that it will be more tolerable in that Day for Sodom than for that city.12λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι Σοδόμοις ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἀνεκτότερον ἔσται τῇ πόλει ἐκείνῃ
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.13Οὐαί σοι Χοραζίν οὐαί σοι Βηθσαϊδά ὅτι εἰ ἐν Τύρῳ καὶ Σιδῶνι ἐγενήθησαν αἱ δυνάμεις αἱ γενόμεναι ἐν ὑμῖν πάλαι ἂν ἐν σάκκῳ καὶ σποδῷ καθήμενοι μετενόησαν
But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.14πλὴν Τύρῳ καὶ Σιδῶνι ἀνεκτότερον ἔσται ἐν τῇ κρίσει ὑμῖν
And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades.15καὶ σύ Καφαρναούμ μὴ ἕως οὐρανοῦ ὑψωθήσῃ ἕως τοῦ ᾅδου καταβήσῃ
He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”16 ἀκούων ὑμῶν ἐμοῦ ἀκούει καὶ ἀθετῶν ὑμᾶς ἐμὲ ἀθετεῖ δὲ ἐμὲ ἀθετῶν ἀθετεῖ τὸν ἀποστείλαντά με
Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”17Ὑπέστρεψαν δὲ οἱ ἑβδομήκοντα ‹δύο› μετὰ χαρᾶς λέγοντες Κύριε καὶ τὰ δαιμόνια ὑποτάσσεται ἡμῖν ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί σου
And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.18Εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Ἐθεώρουν τὸν Σατανᾶν ὡς ἀστραπὴν ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ πεσόντα
Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.19ἰδοὺ δέδωκα ὑμῖν τὴν ἐξουσίαν τοῦ πατεῖν ἐπάνω ὄφεων καὶ σκορπίων καὶ ἐπὶ πᾶσαν τὴν δύναμιν τοῦ ἐχθροῦ καὶ οὐδὲν ὑμᾶς οὐ μὴ ἀδικήσῃ*
Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”20πλὴν ἐν τούτῳ μὴ χαίρετε ὅτι τὰ πνεύματα ὑμῖν ὑποτάσσεται χαίρετε δὲ ὅτι τὰ ὀνόματα ὑμῶν ἐνγέγραπται ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς
In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.21Ἐν αὐτῇ τῇ ὥρᾳ ἠγαλλιάσατο [ἐν] τῷ Πνεύματι τῷ Ἁγίῳ καὶ εἶπεν Ἐξομολογοῦμαί σοι Πάτερ Κύριε τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ τῆς γῆς ὅτι ἀπέκρυψας ταῦτα ἀπὸ σοφῶν καὶ συνετῶν καὶ ἀπεκάλυψας αὐτὰ νηπίοις ναί Πατήρ ὅτι οὕτως εὐδοκία ἐγένετο ἔμπροσθέν σου
All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.22Πάντα μοι παρεδόθη ὑπὸ τοῦ Πατρός μου καὶ οὐδεὶς γινώσκει τίς ἐστιν Υἱὸς εἰ μὴ Πατήρ καὶ τίς ἐστιν Πατὴρ εἰ μὴ Υἱὸς καὶ ἐὰν βούληται Υἱὸς ἀποκαλύψαι
Then He turned to His disciples and said privately, “Blessed are the eyes which see the things you see;23Καὶ στραφεὶς πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς κατ’ ἰδίαν εἶπεν Μακάριοι οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ οἱ βλέποντες βλέπετε
for I tell you that many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and have not seen it, and to hear what you hear, and have not heard it.24λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι πολλοὶ προφῆται καὶ βασιλεῖς ἠθέλησαν ἰδεῖν ὑμεῖς βλέπετε καὶ οὐκ εἶδαν καὶ ἀκοῦσαι ἀκούετε καὶ οὐκ ἤκουσαν
And behold, a certain lawyer stood up and tested Him, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?”25Καὶ ἰδοὺ νομικός τις ἀνέστη ἐκπειράζων αὐτὸν λέγων Διδάσκαλε τί ποιήσας ζωὴν αἰώνιον κληρονομήσω
He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?26 δὲ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν Ἐν τῷ νόμῳ τί γέγραπται πῶς ἀναγινώσκεις
So he answered and said, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ”27 δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν Ἀγαπήσεις Κύριον τὸν Θεόν σου ἐξ ὅλης τῆς καρδίας σου καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ ψυχῇ σου καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ ἰσχύϊ σου καὶ ἐν ὅλῃ τῇ διανοίᾳ σου καὶ Τὸν πλησίον σου ὡς σεαυτόν
And He said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this and you will live.”28Εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ Ὀρθῶς ἀπεκρίθης τοῦτο ποίει καὶ ζήσῃ
But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”29 δὲ θέλων δικαιῶσαι ἑαυτὸν εἶπεν πρὸς τὸν Ἰησοῦν Καὶ τίς ἐστίν μου πλησίον
Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.30Ὑπολαβὼν ‹δὲ› Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν Ἄνθρωπός τις κατέβαινεν ἀπὸ Ἰερουσαλὴμ εἰς Ἰεριχὼ καὶ λῃσταῖς περιέπεσεν οἳ καὶ ἐκδύσαντες αὐτὸν καὶ πληγὰς ἐπιθέντες ἀπῆλθον ἀφέντες ἡμιθανῆ
Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.31Κατὰ συγκυρίαν δὲ ἱερεύς τις κατέβαινεν ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ ἐκείνῃ καὶ ἰδὼν αὐτὸν ἀντιπαρῆλθεν
Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side.32Ὁμοίως δὲ καὶ Λευίτης [γενόμενος] κατὰ τὸν τόπον ἐλθὼν καὶ ἰδὼν ἀντιπαρῆλθεν
But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion.33Σαμαρίτης δέ τις ὁδεύων ἦλθεν κατ’ αὐτὸν καὶ ἰδὼν ἐσπλαγχνίσθη
So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.34καὶ προσελθὼν κατέδησεν τὰ τραύματα αὐτοῦ ἐπιχέων ἔλαιον καὶ οἶνον ἐπιβιβάσας δὲ αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὸ ἴδιον κτῆνος ἤγαγεν αὐτὸν εἰς πανδοχεῖον καὶ ἐπεμελήθη αὐτοῦ
On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’35Καὶ ἐπὶ τὴν αὔριον ἐκβαλὼν «δύο δηνάρια» ἔδωκεν τῷ πανδοχεῖ καὶ εἶπεν Ἐπιμελήθητι αὐτοῦ καὶ τι ἂν προσδαπανήσῃς ἐγὼ ἐν τῷ ἐπανέρχεσθαί με ἀποδώσω σοι
So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?”36Τίς τούτων τῶν τριῶν πλησίον δοκεῖ σοι γεγονέναι τοῦ ἐμπεσόντος εἰς τοὺς λῃστάς
And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”37 δὲ εἶπεν ποιήσας τὸ ἔλεος μετ’ αὐτοῦ Εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ Ἰησοῦς Πορεύου καὶ σὺ ποίει ὁμοίως
Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house.38Ἐν δὲ τῷ πορεύεσθαι αὐτοὺς αὐτὸς εἰσῆλθεν εἰς κώμην τινά γυνὴ δέ τις ὀνόματι Μάρθα ὑπεδέξατο αὐτὸν 〈εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν〉
And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word.39καὶ τῇδε ἦν ἀδελφὴ καλουμένη Μαριάμ καὶ παρακαθεσθεῖσα πρὸς τοὺς πόδας τοῦ Κυρίου ἤκουεν τὸν λόγον αὐτοῦ
But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”40 δὲ Μάρθα περιεσπᾶτο περὶ πολλὴν διακονίαν ἐπιστᾶσα δὲ εἶπεν Κύριε οὐ μέλει σοι ὅτι ἀδελφή μου μόνην με κατέλειπεν διακονεῖν εἰπὲ* οὖν αὐτῇ ἵνα μοι συναντιλάβηται
And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things.41Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ εἶπεν αὐτῇ Κύριος Μάρθα Μάρθα μεριμνᾷς καὶ θορυβάζῃ περὶ πολλά
But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”42ὀλίγων δέ ἐστιν χρεία ἑνός Μαριὰμ γὰρ τὴν ἀγαθὴν μερίδα ἐξελέξατο ἥτις οὐκ ἀφαιρεθήσεται αὐτῆς
