1  Καὶ (And) ἦλθεν (came) εἷς (one) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) ἀγγέλων (angels) τῶν (-) ἐχόντων (having) τὰς (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) φιάλας (bowls), καὶ (and) ἐλάλησεν (spoke) μετ’ (with) ἐμοῦ (me) λέγων (saying)· Δεῦρο (Come here), δείξω (I will show) σοι (you) τὸ (the) κρίμα (judgment) τῆς (of the) πόρνης (prostitute) τῆς (-) μεγάλης (great) τῆς (the one) καθημένης (sitting) ἐπὶ (upon) ὑδάτων (waters) πολλῶν (many), 2  μεθ’ (with) ἧς (whom) ἐπόρνευσαν (committed sexual immorality) οἱ (the) βασιλεῖς (kings) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth), καὶ (and) ἐμεθύσθησαν (were made drunk) οἱ (those) κατοικοῦντες (dwelling) τὴν (on the) γῆν (earth) ἐκ (with) τοῦ (the) οἴνου (wine) τῆς (of the) πορνείας (sexual immorality) αὐτῆς (of her).

3  Καὶ (And) ἀπήνεγκέν (he carried away) με (me) εἰς (into) ἔρημον (a wilderness) ἐν (in) Πνεύματι (the Spirit). καὶ (and) εἶδον (I saw) γυναῖκα (a woman) καθημένην (sitting) ἐπὶ (upon) θηρίον (a beast) κόκκινον (scarlet), γέμοντα (being full) ὀνόματα (of names) βλασφημίας (of blasphemy), ἔχων (having) κεφαλὰς (heads) ἑπτὰ (seven) καὶ (and) κέρατα (horns) δέκα (ten). 4  καὶ (And) ἡ (the) γυνὴ (woman) ἦν (was) περιβεβλημένη (clothed in) πορφυροῦν (purple) καὶ (and) κόκκινον (scarlet), καὶ (and) κεχρυσωμένη (adorned) χρυσίῳ (with gold) καὶ (and) λίθῳ (stone) τιμίῳ (precious) καὶ (and) μαργαρίταις (pearls), ἔχουσα (holding) ποτήριον (a cup) χρυσοῦν (golden) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) χειρὶ (hand) αὐτῆς (of her) γέμον (being full) βδελυγμάτων (of abominations) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) ἀκάθαρτα (impurities) τῆς (of the) πορνείας (sexual immorality) αὐτῆς (of her), 5  καὶ (And) ἐπὶ (upon) τὸ (the) μέτωπον (forehead) αὐτῆς (of her) ὄνομα (a name) γεγραμμένον (was written), μυστήριον (a mystery),

The Mystery Explained

6  Καὶ (And) εἶδον (I saw) τὴν (the) γυναῖκα (woman) μεθύουσαν (being drunk) ἐκ (with) τοῦ (the) αἵματος (blood) τῶν (of the) ἁγίων (saints) καὶ (and) ἐκ (with) τοῦ (the) αἵματος (blood) τῶν (of the) μαρτύρων (witnesses) Ἰησοῦ (of Jesus). Καὶ (And) ἐθαύμασα (I marveled) ἰδὼν (having seen) αὐτὴν (her) θαῦμα (with wonder) μέγα (great).

7  Καὶ (And) εἶπέν (said) μοι (to me) ὁ (the) ἄγγελος (angel)· Διὰ (Because of) τί (why) ἐθαύμασας (did you marvel)? ἐγὼ (I) ἐρῶ (will tell) σοι (you) τὸ (the) μυστήριον (mystery) τῆς (of the) γυναικὸς (woman) καὶ (and) τοῦ (of the) θηρίου (beast) τοῦ (-) βαστάζοντος (carrying) αὐτήν (her) τοῦ (-) ἔχοντος (having) τὰς (the) ἑπτὰ (seven) κεφαλὰς (heads) καὶ (and) τὰ (the) δέκα (ten) κέρατα (horns).

8  Τὸ (The) θηρίον (beast) ὃ (that) εἶδες (you saw) ἦν (was) καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is), καὶ (and) μέλλει (is about) ἀναβαίνειν (to come up) ἐκ (out of) τῆς (the) ἀβύσσου (Abyss) καὶ (and) εἰς (into) ἀπώλειαν (destruction) ὑπάγει (go)· καὶ (and) θαυμασθήσονται (will marvel) οἱ (those) κατοικοῦντες (dwelling) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth), ὧν (whose) οὐ (not) γέγραπται (have been written) τὸ (-) ὄνομα (names) ἐπὶ (in) τὸ (the) βιβλίον (book) τῆς (-) ζωῆς (of life) ἀπὸ (from) καταβολῆς (the foundation) κόσμου (of the world), βλεπόντων (seeing) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast) ὅτι (that) ἦν (was) καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is) καὶ (and) παρέσται (will be).

9  Ὧδε (Here is) ὁ (the) νοῦς (mind) ὁ (-) ἔχων (having) σοφίαν (wisdom). αἱ (The) ἑπτὰ (seven) κεφαλαὶ (heads) ἑπτὰ (seven) ὄρη (mountains) εἰσίν (are), ὅπου (where) ἡ (the) γυνὴ (woman) κάθηται (sits) ἐπ’ (on) αὐτῶν (them). 10  καὶ (And) βασιλεῖς (kings) ἑπτά (seven) εἰσιν (there are)· οἱ (The) πέντε (five) ἔπεσαν (fell), ὁ (the) εἷς (one) ἔστιν (is), ὁ (the) ἄλλος (other) οὔπω (not yet) ἦλθεν (came), καὶ (and) ὅταν (when) ἔλθῃ (he shall have come) ὀλίγον (a little while) αὐτὸν (for him) δεῖ (it is necessary) μεῖναι (to remain).

11  Καὶ (And) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast) ὃ (that) ἦν (was) καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἔστιν (is), καὶ (also) αὐτὸς (himself) ὄγδοός (an eighth) ἐστιν (is) καὶ (and) ἐκ (of) τῶν (the) ἑπτά (seven) ἐστιν (is), καὶ (and) εἰς (into) ἀπώλειαν (destruction) ὑπάγει (goes). 12  καὶ (And) τὰ (the) δέκα (ten) κέρατα (horns) ἃ (that) εἶδες (you saw) δέκα (ten) βασιλεῖς (kings) εἰσιν (are), οἵτινες (who) βασιλείαν (a kingdom) οὔπω (not yet) ἔλαβον (received), ἀλλὰ (but) ἐξουσίαν (authority) ὡς (as) βασιλεῖς (kings) μίαν (one) ὥραν (hour) λαμβάνουσιν (receive) μετὰ (with) τοῦ (the) θηρίου (beast). 13  οὗτοι (These) μίαν (one) γνώμην (purpose) ἔχουσιν (have), καὶ (and) τὴν (the) δύναμιν (power) καὶ (and) ἐξουσίαν (authority) αὐτῶν (of themselves) τῷ (to the) θηρίῳ (beast) διδόασιν (they give).

The Victory of the Lamb

14  Οὗτοι (These) μετὰ (with) τοῦ (the) Ἀρνίου (Lamb) πολεμήσουσιν (will war) καὶ (and) τὸ (the) Ἀρνίον (Lamb) νικήσει (will overcome) αὐτούς (them), ὅτι (because) Κύριος (Lord) κυρίων (of lords) ἐστὶν (He is) καὶ (and) Βασιλεὺς (King) βασιλέων (of kings), καὶ (and) οἱ (those) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (Him) κλητοὶ (are called) καὶ (and) ἐκλεκτοὶ (chosen) καὶ (and) πιστοί (faithful).

15  Καὶ (And) λέγει (he says) μοι (to me)· Τὰ (The) ὕδατα (waters) ἃ (that) εἶδες (you saw), οὗ (where) ἡ (the) πόρνη (prostitute) κάθηται (sits), λαοὶ (peoples) καὶ (and) ὄχλοι (multitudes) εἰσὶν (are) καὶ (and) ἔθνη (nations) καὶ (and) γλῶσσαι (tongues). 16  καὶ (And) τὰ (the) δέκα (ten) κέρατα (horns) ἃ (that) εἶδες (you saw) καὶ (and) τὸ (the) θηρίον (beast), οὗτοι (these) μισήσουσιν (will hate) τὴν (the) πόρνην (prostitute), καὶ (and) ἠρημωμένην (desolate) ποιήσουσιν (they will make) αὐτὴν (her) καὶ (and) γυμνήν (naked), καὶ (and) τὰς (the) σάρκας (flesh) αὐτῆς (of her) φάγονται (they will eat), καὶ (and) αὐτὴν (her) κατακαύσουσιν (they will burn) ἐν (in) πυρί (fire)· 17  ὁ (-) γὰρ (For) Θεὸς (God) ἔδωκεν (gave) εἰς (into) τὰς (the) καρδίας (hearts) αὐτῶν (of them) ποιῆσαι (to do) τὴν (the) γνώμην (purpose) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) ποιῆσαι (to do) μίαν (one) γνώμην (purpose) καὶ (and) δοῦναι (to give) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) αὐτῶν (of them) τῷ (to the) θηρίῳ (beast), ἄχρι (until) τελεσθήσονται (will be completed) οἱ (the) λόγοι (words) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). 18  καὶ (And) ἡ (the) γυνὴ (woman) ἣν (whom) εἶδες (you saw) ἔστιν (is) ἡ (the) πόλις (city) ἡ (-) μεγάλη (great) ἡ (the one) ἔχουσα (having) βασιλείαν (kingship) ἐπὶ (over) τῶν (the) βασιλέων (kings) τῆς (of the) γῆς (earth).
