1 For the law is only a shadow of the good things to come, not the realities themselves. It can never, by the same sacrifices offered year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near. For the law having a shadow of good things to come, <i>and</i> not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. For the Law, since it has <i>only</i> a shadow of the good things to come <i>and</i> not the form of those things itself, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually every year, make those who approach perfect. The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship.
2 If it could, would not the offerings have ceased? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt the guilt of their sins. Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins? For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have had consciousness of sins? Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins.
3 Instead, those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 6 In burnt offerings and sin offerings You took no delight. in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure. In burnt offerings and <i>sacrifices</i> for sin thou hast had no pleasure. YOU HAVE NOT TAKEN PLEASURE IN WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND <i>OFFERINGS</i> FOR SIN. with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased.
7 Then I said, ‘Here I am, it is written about Me in the scroll: I have come to do Your will, O God.’ ” Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God, as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’” Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. “THEN I SAID, ‘BEHOLD, I HAVE COME (IT IS WRITTEN OF ME IN THE SCROLL OF THE BOOK) TO DO YOUR WILL, O GOD.’” Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll— I have come to do your will, my God.’”
8 In the passage above He says, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings You did not desire, nor did You delight in them” (although they are offered according to the law). When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law), Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and <i>offering</i> for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure <i>therein</i>; which are offered by the law; After saying above, “SACRIFICES AND OFFERINGS AND WHOLE BURNT OFFERINGS AND <i>OFFERINGS</i> FOR SIN YOU HAVE NOT DESIRED, NOR HAVE YOU TAKEN PLEASURE <i>IN THEM</i>” (which are offered according to the Law), First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them|—though they were offered in accordance with the law.
9 Then He adds, “Here I am, I have come to do Your will. He takes away the first to establish the second. then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second. Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. then He said, “BEHOLD, I HAVE COME TO DO YOUR WILL.” He takes away the first in order to establish the second. Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second.
10 And by that will, we have been sanctified through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once <i>for all</i>. By this will, we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all <i>time.</i> And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
11 Day after day every priest stands to minister and to offer again and again the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
12 But when this Priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, SAT DOWN AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD, But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God,
13 Since that time, He waits for His enemies to be made a footstool for His feet, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. waiting from that time onward UNTIL HIS ENEMIES ARE MADE A FOOTSTOOL FOR HIS FEET. and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool.
14 because by a single offering He has made perfect for all time those who are being sanctified. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.
15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First He says: And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying, <i>Whereof</i> the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us; for after saying, The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says:
16 “This is the covenant I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord. I will put My laws in their hearts and inscribe them on their minds.” “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,” This <i>is</i> the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; “THIS IS THE COVENANT WHICH I WILL MAKE WITH THEM AFTER THOSE DAYS, DECLARES THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS UPON THEIR HEARTS, AND WRITE THEM ON THEIR MIND,” <i>He then says,</i> “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.”
17 Then He adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.” then he adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.” And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. “AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL NO LONGER REMEMBER.” Then he adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.”
18 And where these have been forgiven, an offering for sin is no longer needed. Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin. Now where remission of these <i>is, there is</i> no more offering for sin. Now where there is forgiveness of these things, an offering for sin is no longer <i>required.</i> And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.

24 And let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: and let’s consider how to encourage one another in love and good deeds, And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,
25 Let us not neglect meeting together, as some have made a habit, but let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching. not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some <i>is</i>; but exhorting <i>one another</i>: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. not abandoning our own meeting together, as is the habit of some people, but encouraging <i>one another;</i> and all the more as you see the day drawing near. not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
26 If we deliberately go on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no further sacrifice for sins remains, For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left,
27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume all adversaries. but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. but a terrifying expectation of judgment and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES. but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.
28 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Anyone who has ignored the Law of Moses is put to death without mercy on <i>the testimony of</i> two or three witnesses. 29 How much more severely do you think one deserves to be punished who has trampled on the Son of God, profaned the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and insulted the Spirit of grace? How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace? Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? How much more severe punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?
30 For we know Him who said, “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge His people.” For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.” For we know him that hath said, Vengeance <i>belongeth</i> unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. For we know Him who said, “VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY.” And again, “THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE.” For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.”
31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. <i>It is</i> a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God. It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
32 Remember the early days that you were in the light. In those days, you endured a great conflict in the face of suffering. But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings, But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions; But remember the former days, when, after being enlightened, you endured a great conflict of sufferings, Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you endured in a great conflict full of suffering.
33 Sometimes you were publicly exposed to ridicule and persecution; at other times you were partners with those who were so treated. sometimes being publicly exposed to reproach and affliction, and sometimes being partners with those so treated. Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used. partly by being made a public spectacle through insults and distress, and partly by becoming companions with those who were so treated. Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated.
34 You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, knowing that you yourselves had a better and permanent possession. For you had compassion on those in prison, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one. For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance. For you showed sympathy to the prisoners and accepted joyfully the seizure of your property, knowing that you have for yourselves a better and lasting possession. You suffered along with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.
35 So do not throw away your confidence; it holds a great reward. Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. 36 You need to persevere, so that after you have done the will of God, you will receive what He has promised. FOR YET IN A VERY LITTLE WHILE, HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME, AND WILL NOT DELAY. For, “In just a little while, he who is coming will come and will not delay.”
38 But My righteous one will live by faith; and if he shrinks back, I will take no pleasure in him.” but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.” Now the just shall live by faith: but if <i>any man</i> draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. BUT MY RIGHTEOUS ONE WILL LIVE BY FAITH; AND IF HE SHRINKS BACK, MY SOUL HAS NO PLEASURE IN HIM. And, “But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.”
39 But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls. But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. But we are not among those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith for the safekeeping of the soul.
