Berean Interlinear Bible The Lord of the Sabbath 1Ἐγένετο (It came to pass) δὲ (then) ἐν (on) σαββάτῳ (a Sabbath)a διαπορεύεσθαι (is passing along) αὐτὸν (He) διὰ (through) σπορίμων (grainfields), καὶ (and) ἔτιλλον (were plucking) οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), καὶ (and) ἤσθιον (were eating) τοὺς (the) στάχυας (heads of grain), ψώχοντες (rubbing them) ταῖς (in the) χερσίν (hands). 2τινὲς (Some) δὲ (however) τῶν (of the) Φαρισαίων (Pharisees) εἶπαν (said), “Τί (Why) ποιεῖτε (do you) ὃ (that which) οὐκ (not) ἔξεστιν (it is lawful) τοῖς (on the) σάββασιν (Sabbaths)?” 3Καὶ (And) ἀποκριθεὶς (answering) πρὸς (to) αὐτοὺς (them), εἶπεν (said) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Οὐδὲ (Not even) τοῦτο (this) ἀνέγνωτε (have you read), ὃ (that which) ἐποίησεν (did) Δαυὶδ (David), ὁπότε (when) ἐπείνασεν (was hungry) αὐτὸς (he himself), καὶ (and) οἱ (those who) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (him) ὄντες (were): 4ὡς (how) εἰσῆλθεν (he entered) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) οἶκον (house) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), καὶ (and) τοὺς (the) ἄρτους (loaves) τῆς (of the) προθέσεως (presentation) λαβὼν (having taken), ἔφαγεν (ate), καὶ (and) ἔδωκεν (gave) τοῖς (to those) μετ’ (with) αὐτοῦ (him), οὓς (which) οὐκ (not) ἔξεστιν (it is lawful) φαγεῖν (to eat), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) μόνους (only) τοὺς (to the) ἱερεῖς (priests)?” 5καὶ (And) ἔλεγεν (He was saying) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Κύριός (Lord) ἐστιν (is) τοῦ (of the) σαββάτου (Sabbath) ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man).” Jesus Heals on the Sabbath 6Ἐγένετο (It came to pass) δὲ (then) ἐν (on) ἑτέρῳ (another) σαββάτῳ (Sabbath), εἰσελθεῖν (entered) αὐτὸν (He) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) συναγωγὴν (synagogue) καὶ (and) διδάσκειν (taught); καὶ (and) ἦν (there was) ἄνθρωπος (a man) ἐκεῖ (there), καὶ (and) ἡ (the) χεὶρ (hand) αὐτοῦ (of him) ἡ (the) δεξιὰ (right) ἦν (was) ξηρά (withered). 7παρετηροῦντο (Were closely watching) δὲ (now) αὐτὸν (Him) οἱ (the) γραμματεῖς (scribes) καὶ (and) οἱ (the) Φαρισαῖοι (Pharisees), εἰ (whether) ἐν (on) τῷ (the) σαββάτῳ (Sabbath) θεραπεύει (He will heal), ἵνα (that) εὕρωσιν (they might find reason) κατηγορεῖν (to accuse) αὐτοῦ (Him). 8Αὐτὸς (He) δὲ (now) ᾔδει (knew) τοὺς (the) διαλογισμοὺς (thoughts) αὐτῶν (of them); εἶπεν (He said) δὲ (now) τῷ (to the) ἀνδρὶ (man) τῷ (the) ξηρὰν (withered) ἔχοντι (having) τὴν (the) χεῖρα (hand), “Ἔγειρε (Arise) καὶ (and) στῆθι (stand) εἰς (in) τὸ (the) μέσον (midst).” καὶ (And) ἀναστὰς (having risen up), ἔστη (he stood). 9εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (then) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Ἐπερωτῶ (I ask) ὑμᾶς (you), εἰ (whether) ἔξεστιν (it is lawful) τῷ (on the) σαββάτῳ (Sabbath) ἀγαθοποιῆσαι (to do good) ἢ (or) κακοποιῆσαι (to do evil)? ψυχὴν (Life) σῶσαι (to save) ἢ (or) ἀπολέσαι (to destroy)?” 10Καὶ (And) περιβλεψάμενος (having looked around) πάντας (all) αὐτοὺς (on them), εἶπεν (He said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ἔκτεινον (Stretch out) τὴν (the) χεῖρά (hand) σου (of you).” ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἐποίησεν (he did), καὶ (and) ἀπεκατεστάθη (was restored) ἡ (the) χεὶρ (hand) αὐτοῦ (of him). 11αὐτοὶ (They themselves) δὲ (then) ἐπλήσθησαν (were filled) ἀνοίας (with rage), καὶ (and) διελάλουν (were discussing) πρὸς (with) ἀλλήλους (one another) τί (what) ἂν (-) ποιήσαιεν (they might do) τῷ (-) Ἰησοῦ (to Jesus). The Beatitudes 20Καὶ (And) αὐτὸς (He), ἐπάρας (having lifted up) τοὺς (the) ὀφθαλμοὺς (gaze) αὐτοῦ (of Him) εἰς (upon) τοὺς (the) μαθητὰς (disciples) αὐτοῦ (of Him), ἔλεγεν (was saying): “Μακάριοι (Blessed are) οἱ (the) πτωχοί (poor), Ὅτι (for) ὑμετέρα (yours) ἐστὶν (is) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). 21Μακάριοι (Blessed are) οἱ (those) πεινῶντες (hungering) νῦν (now), Ὅτι (for) χορτασθήσεσθε (you will be filled). Μακάριοι (Blessed are) οἱ (those) κλαίοντες (weeping) νῦν (now), Ὅτι (for) γελάσετε (you will laugh). 22Μακάριοί (Blessed) ἐστε (are you) ὅταν (when) μισήσωσιν (shall hate) ὑμᾶς (you) οἱ (-) ἄνθρωποι (men), καὶ (and) ὅταν (when) ἀφορίσωσιν (they shall exclude) ὑμᾶς (you), καὶ (and) ὀνειδίσωσιν (shall insult you), καὶ (and) ἐκβάλωσιν (shall cast out) τὸ (the) ὄνομα (name) ὑμῶν (of you) ὡς (as) πονηρὸν (evil), ἕνεκα (on account of) τοῦ (the) Υἱοῦ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man). 23χάρητε (Rejoice) ἐν (in) ἐκείνῃ (that) τῇ (-) ἡμέρᾳ (day), καὶ (and) σκιρτήσατε (leap for joy); ἰδοὺ (behold) γὰρ (for), ὁ (the) μισθὸς (reward) ὑμῶν (of you) πολὺς (is great) ἐν (in) τῷ (-) οὐρανῷ (heaven). κατὰ (According to) τὰ (these things) αὐτὰ (of them) γὰρ (for) ἐποίουν (used to treat) τοῖς (the) προφήταις (prophets) οἱ (the) πατέρες (fathers) αὐτῶν (likewise). Woes 24Πλὴν (But) οὐαὶ (woe) ὑμῖν (to you) τοῖς (who are) πλουσίοις (rich), Ὅτι (for) ἀπέχετε (you are receiving) τὴν (the) παράκλησιν (comfort) ὑμῶν (of you). 25Οὐαὶ (Woe) ὑμῖν (to you) οἱ (who) ἐμπεπλησμένοι (having been filled) νῦν (now), Ὅτι (for) πεινάσετε (you will hunger). Οὐαί (Woe to) οἱ (those) γελῶντες (laughing) νῦν (now), Ὅτι (for) πενθήσετε (you will mourn) καὶ (and) κλαύσετε (will weep). 26Οὐαὶ (Woe to you) ὅταν (when) καλῶς (well) ⇔ ὑμᾶς (of you) εἴπωσιν (speak) πάντες (all) οἱ (-) ἄνθρωποι (men), Κατὰ (according to) τὰ (these things) αὐτὰ (of them) γὰρ (for) ἐποίουν (used to treat) τοῖς (the) ψευδοπροφήταις (false prophets) οἱ (the) πατέρες (fathers) αὐτῶν (likewise). Love Your Enemies 27Ἀλλὰ (But) ὑμῖν (to you) λέγω (I say), τοῖς (to those) ἀκούουσιν (hearing): Ἀγαπᾶτε (Love) τοὺς (the) ἐχθροὺς (enemies) ὑμῶν (of you), καλῶς (good) ποιεῖτε (do) τοῖς (to those) μισοῦσιν (hating) ὑμᾶς (you), 28εὐλογεῖτε (bless) τοὺς (those) καταρωμένους (cursing) ὑμᾶς (you), προσεύχεσθε (pray) περὶ (for) τῶν (those) ἐπηρεαζόντων (mistreating) ὑμᾶς (you). 29τῷ (To the one) τύπτοντί (striking) σε (you) ἐπὶ (on) τὴν (the) σιαγόνα (cheek), πάρεχε (offer) καὶ (also) τὴν (the) ἄλλην (other); καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the one) αἴροντός (taking away) σου (your) τὸ (-) ἱμάτιον (cloak), καὶ (also) τὸν (the) χιτῶνα (tunic) μὴ (not) κωλύσῃς (do withhold). 30παντὶ (To everyone) αἰτοῦντί (asking) σε (you), δίδου (give), καὶ (and) ἀπὸ (from) τοῦ (the one) αἴροντος (taking away) τὰ (what is) σὰ (yours), μὴ (not) ἀπαίτει (ask it back). 31καὶ (And) καθὼς (as) θέλετε (you desire) ἵνα (that) ποιῶσιν (should do) ὑμῖν (to you) οἱ (-) ἄνθρωποι (men), ποιεῖτε (do) αὐτοῖς (to them) ὁμοίως (likewise). 32Καὶ (And) εἰ (if) ἀγαπᾶτε (you love) τοὺς (those) ἀγαπῶντας (loving) ὑμᾶς (you), ποία (what) ὑμῖν (to you) χάρις (credit) ἐστίν (is it)? καὶ (Even) γὰρ (for) οἱ (-) ἁμαρτωλοὶ (sinners) τοὺς (those) ἀγαπῶντας (loving) αὐτοὺς (them), ἀγαπῶσιν (love). 33καὶ (And) γὰρ (for) ἐὰν (if) ἀγαθοποιῆτε (you do good) τοὺς (to those) ἀγαθοποιοῦντας (doing good to) ὑμᾶς (you), ποία (what) ὑμῖν (to you) χάρις (credit) ἐστίν (is it)? καὶ (For even) οἱ (-) ἁμαρτωλοὶ (sinners) τὸ (the) αὐτὸ (same) ποιοῦσιν (do). 34καὶ (And) ἐὰν (if) δανίσητε (you lend to those) παρ’ (from) ὧν (whom) ἐλπίζετε (you expect) λαβεῖν (to receive back), ποία (what) ὑμῖν (to you) χάρις (credit) ἐστίν (is it)? καὶ (Even) ἁμαρτωλοὶ (sinners) ἁμαρτωλοῖς (to sinners) δανίζουσιν (lend), ἵνα (that) ἀπολάβωσιν (they might receive) τὰ (the) ἴσα (same amount). 35Πλὴν (But) ἀγαπᾶτε (love) τοὺς (the) ἐχθροὺς (enemies) ὑμῶν (of you), καὶ (and) ἀγαθοποιεῖτε (do good), καὶ (and) δανίζετε (lend), μηδὲν (nothing) ἀπελπίζοντες (expecting in return), καὶ (and) ἔσται (will be) ὁ (the) μισθὸς (reward) ὑμῶν (of you) πολύς (great), καὶ (and) ἔσεσθε (you will be) υἱοὶ (sons of) Ὑψίστου (the Most High); ὅτι (for) αὐτὸς (He) χρηστός (kind) ἐστιν (is) ἐπὶ (to) τοὺς (the) ἀχαρίστους (ungrateful) καὶ (and) πονηρούς (evil). 36Γίνεσθε (Be you) οἰκτίρμονες (merciful), καθὼς (as) [καὶ] (also) ὁ (the) Πατὴρ (Father) ὑμῶν (of you) οἰκτίρμων (merciful) ἐστίν (is). Do Not Judge 37Καὶ (And) μὴ (not) κρίνετε (judge), καὶ (that) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) κριθῆτε (you should be judged); καὶ (and) μὴ (not) καταδικάζετε (condemn), καὶ (that) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) καταδικασθῆτε (you should be condemned). ἀπολύετε (Forgive), καὶ (and) ἀπολυθήσεσθε (you will be forgiven). 38δίδοτε (Give), καὶ (and) δοθήσεται (it will be given) ὑμῖν (to you). μέτρον (Measure) καλὸν (good), πεπιεσμένον (pressed down), σεσαλευμένον (shaken together), ὑπερεκχυννόμενον (running over), δώσουσιν (will they put) εἰς (into) τὸν (the) κόλπον (lap) ὑμῶν (of you), ᾧ (with that) γὰρ (for) μέτρῳ (measure) μετρεῖτε (you measure), ἀντιμετρηθήσεται (it will be measured again) ὑμῖν (to you).” 39Εἶπεν (He spoke) δὲ (then) καὶ (also) παραβολὴν (a parable) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Μήτι (Not) δύναται (is able) τυφλὸς (a blind man), τυφλὸν (a blind man) ὁδηγεῖν (to lead)? οὐχὶ (Not) ἀμφότεροι (both) εἰς (into) βόθυνον (a pit) ἐμπεσοῦνται (will fall)? 40οὐκ (Not) ἔστιν (is) μαθητὴς (a disciple) ὑπὲρ (above) τὸν (the) διδάσκαλον (teacher); κατηρτισμένος (fully trained) δὲ (however), πᾶς (everyone) ἔσται (will be) ὡς (like) ὁ (the) διδάσκαλος (teacher) αὐτοῦ (of him). 41Τί (Why) δὲ (now) βλέπεις (look you at) τὸ (the) κάρφος (splinter) τὸ (that is) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀφθαλμῷ (eye) τοῦ (of the) ἀδελφοῦ (brother) σου (of you), τὴν (-) δὲ (and) δοκὸν (the beam) τὴν (that is) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἰδίῳ (own) ὀφθαλμῷ (eye) οὐ (not) κατανοεῖς (notice)? 42πῶς (How) δύνασαι (are you able) λέγειν (to say) τῷ (to) ἀδελφῷ (brother) σου (of you), ‘Ἀδελφέ (Brother), ἄφες (let that) ἐκβάλω (I might cast out) τὸ (the) κάρφος (splinter) τὸ (that is) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀφθαλμῷ (eye) σου (of you),’ αὐτὸς (yourself) τὴν (the) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀφθαλμῷ (eye) σοῦ (of you) δοκὸν (beam) οὐ (not) βλέπων (seeing)? ὑποκριτά (Hypocrite), ἔκβαλε (cast out) πρῶτον (first) τὴν (the) δοκὸν (beam) ἐκ (from) τοῦ (the) ὀφθαλμοῦ (eye) σοῦ (of you), καὶ (and) τότε (then) διαβλέψεις (you will see clearly) τὸ (the) κάρφος (splinter) τὸ (-) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ὀφθαλμῷ (eye) τοῦ (of the) ἀδελφοῦ (brother) σου (of you) ἐκβαλεῖν (to cast out). A Tree and its Fruit 43Οὐ (No) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (there is) δένδρον (tree) καλὸν (good), ποιοῦν (producing) καρπὸν (fruit) σαπρόν (bad); οὐδὲ (nor) πάλιν (again) δένδρον (a tree) σαπρὸν (bad), ποιοῦν (producing) καρπὸν (fruit) καλόν (good). 44ἕκαστον (Each) γὰρ (for) δένδρον (tree) ἐκ (by) τοῦ (the) ἰδίου (own) καρποῦ (fruit) γινώσκεται (is known). οὐ (Not) γὰρ (for) ἐξ (from) ἀκανθῶν (thorns) συλλέγουσιν (do they gather) σῦκα (figs), οὐδὲ (nor) ἐκ (from) βάτου (a bramble bush) σταφυλὴν (grapes) τρυγῶσιν (gather they). 45ὁ (The) ἀγαθὸς (good) ἄνθρωπος (man), ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) ἀγαθοῦ (good) θησαυροῦ (treasure) τῆς (of the) καρδίας (heart) ‹αὐτοῦ› (of him) προφέρει (brings forth) τὸ (that which is) ἀγαθόν (good); καὶ (and) ὁ (the) πονηρὸς (evil), ἐκ (out of) τοῦ (the) πονηροῦ (evil), προφέρει (brings forth) τὸ (that which is) πονηρόν (evil). ἐκ (Out of) γὰρ (for) περισσεύματος (the abundance) καρδίας (of his heart), λαλεῖ (speaks) τὸ (the) στόμα (mouth) αὐτοῦ (of him). The House on the Rock 46Τί (Why) δέ (now) με (Me) καλεῖτε (do you call) ‘Κύριε (Lord), κύριε (Lord),’ καὶ (and) οὐ (not) ποιεῖτε (do) ἃ (what) λέγω (I say)?
47Πᾶς (Everyone) ὁ (who) ἐρχόμενος (is coming) πρός (to) με (Me), καὶ (and) ἀκούων (hearing) μου (of Me) τῶν (the) λόγων (words), καὶ (and) ποιῶν (doing) αὐτούς (them), ὑποδείξω (I will show) ὑμῖν (you) τίνι (whom) ἐστὶν (he is) ὅμοιος (like).
48ὅμοιός (Like) ἐστιν (he is) ἀνθρώπῳ (to a man) οἰκοδομοῦντι (building) οἰκίαν (a house), ὃς (who) ἔσκαψεν (dug) καὶ (and) ἐβάθυνεν (deepened), καὶ (and) ἔθηκεν (laid) θεμέλιον (a foundation) ἐπὶ (on) τὴν (the) πέτραν (rock); πλημμύρης (a flood) δὲ (then) γενομένης (having come), προσέρηξεν (burst upon) ὁ (the) ποταμὸς (stream) τῇ (the) οἰκίᾳ (house) ἐκείνῃ (that), καὶ (and) οὐκ (not) ἴσχυσεν (was able) σαλεῦσαι (to shake) αὐτὴν (it), διὰ (because) τὸ (-) καλῶς (well) οἰκοδομῆσθαι (had been built) αὐτήν (it).b
