1Ἔλεγεν (He was speaking) δὲ (then) παραβολὴν (a parable) αὐτοῖς (to them) πρὸς (about) τὸ (the way) δεῖν (it behooves) πάντοτε (always) προσεύχεσθαι (to pray) αὐτοὺς (them) καὶ (and) μὴ (not) ἐνκακεῖν (to lose heart), 2λέγων (saying), “Κριτής (A judge) τις (certain) ἦν (there was) ἔν (in) τινι (a certain) πόλει (city), τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) μὴ (not) φοβούμενος (fearing) καὶ (and) ἄνθρωπον (man) μὴ (not) ἐντρεπόμενος (respecting). 3χήρα (A widow) δὲ (then) ἦν (there was) ἐν (in) τῇ (the) πόλει (city) ἐκείνῃ (that), καὶ (and) ἤρχετο (she was coming) πρὸς (to) αὐτὸν (him), λέγουσα (saying), ‘Ἐκδίκησόν (Avenge) με (me) ἀπὸ (of) τοῦ (the) ἀντιδίκου (adversary) μου (of me).’

4Καὶ (And) οὐκ (not) ἤθελεν (he would) ἐπὶ (for) χρόνον (a time); μετὰ (afterward) ταῦτα (he) ⇔ δὲ (however) εἶπεν (said) ἐν (within) ἑαυτῷ (himself), ‘Εἰ (If) καὶ (even) τὸν (-) Θεὸν (God) οὐ (not) φοβοῦμαι (I fear), οὐδὲ (nor) ἄνθρωπον (man) ἐντρέπομαι (respect), 5διά (because) γε (yet) τὸ (-) παρέχειν (causes) μοι (me) κόπον (trouble) τὴν (the) χήραν (widow) ταύτην (this), ἐκδικήσω (I will avenge) αὐτήν (her), ἵνα (so that) μὴ (not) εἰς (to) τέλος (end) ἐρχομένη (coming), ὑπωπιάζῃ (she exhaust) με (me).’”

6Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (then) ὁ (the) Κύριος (Lord), “Ἀκούσατε (Hear) τί (what) ὁ (the) κριτὴς (judge) τῆς (-) ἀδικίας (unrighteous) λέγει (says). 7ὁ (-) δὲ (And) Θεὸς (God) οὐ (no) μὴ (not) ποιήσῃ (shall execute) τὴν (the) ἐκδίκησιν (avenging) τῶν (of the) ἐκλεκτῶν (elect) αὐτοῦ (of Him), τῶν (the ones) βοώντων (crying out) αὐτῷ (to Him) ἡμέρας (day) καὶ (and) νυκτός (night), καὶ (and) μακροθυμεῖ (be deferring) ἐπ’ (in regard to) αὐτοῖς (them)? 8λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) ποιήσει (He will execute) τὴν (the) ἐκδίκησιν (avenging) αὐτῶν (of them) ἐν (in) τάχει (quickness). πλὴν (Nevertheless), ὁ (the) Υἱὸς (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man) ἐλθὼν (having come), ἆρα (indeed) εὑρήσει (will He find) τὴν (-) πίστιν (faith) ἐπὶ (on) τῆς (the) γῆς (earth)?”

9Εἶπεν (He spoke) δὲ (now) καὶ (also) πρός (to) τινας (some) τοὺς (-) πεποιθότας (trusting) ἐφ’ (in) ἑαυτοῖς (themselves) ὅτι (that) εἰσὶν (they are) δίκαιοι (righteous), καὶ (and) ἐξουθενοῦντας (despising) τοὺς (the) λοιποὺς (others), τὴν (the) παραβολὴν (parable) ταύτην (this): 10“Ἄνθρωποι (Men) δύο (two) ἀνέβησαν (went up) εἰς (into) τὸ (the) ἱερὸν (temple) προσεύξασθαι (to pray), ὁ (the) εἷς (one) Φαρισαῖος (a Pharisee), καὶ (and) ὁ (the) ἕτερος (other) τελώνης (a tax collector). 11ὁ (The) Φαρισαῖος (Pharisee), σταθεὶς (having stood), ταῦτα (thus) ⇔ «πρὸς (toward) ἑαυτὸν» (himself) προσηύχετο (was praying), Ὁ (-) ‘Θεός (God), εὐχαριστῶ (I thank) σοι (You) ὅτι (that) οὐκ (not) εἰμὶ (I am) ὥσπερ (like) οἱ (the) λοιποὶ (rest) τῶν (of the) ἀνθρώπων (men) — ἅρπαγες (swindlers), ἄδικοι (unrighteous), μοιχοί (adulterers) — ἢ (or) καὶ (even) ὡς (like) οὗτος (this) ὁ (-) τελώνης (tax collector). 12νηστεύω (I fast) δὶς (twice) τοῦ (in the) σαββάτου (week); ἀποδεκατῶ (I tithe) πάντα (all things), ὅσα (as many as) κτῶμαι (I gain).’

13Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) τελώνης (the tax collector), μακρόθεν (afar off) ἑστὼς (standing), οὐκ (not) ἤθελεν (was willing) οὐδὲ (not even) τοὺς (the) ὀφθαλμοὺς (eyes) ἐπᾶραι (to lift up) εἰς (to) τὸν (-) οὐρανόν (heaven), ἀλλ’ (but) ἔτυπτεν (was striking) τὸ (the) στῆθος (breast) αὐτοῦ (of himself), λέγων (saying) Ὁ (-), ‘Θεός (God), ἱλάσθητί (be merciful) μοι (to me), τῷ (the) ἁμαρτωλῷ (sinner)!’ 14λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), κατέβη (went down) οὗτος (this one) δεδικαιωμένος (justified) εἰς (to) τὸν (the) οἶκον (house) αὐτοῦ (of him), παρ’ (rather than) ἐκεῖνον (that). ὅτι (For) πᾶς (everyone) ὁ (-) ὑψῶν (exalting) ἑαυτὸν (himself) ταπεινωθήσεται (will be humbled); ὁ (the one) δὲ (however) ταπεινῶν (humbling) ἑαυτὸν (himself) ὑψωθήσεται (will be exalted).”

15Προσέφερον (They were bringing) δὲ (then) αὐτῷ (to Him) καὶ (also) τὰ (the) βρέφη (infants), ἵνα (that) αὐτῶν (them) ἅπτηται (He might touch); ἰδόντες (having seen) δὲ (however), οἱ (the) μαθηταὶ (disciples) ἐπετίμων (were rebuking) αὐτοῖς (them).

16Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), προσεκαλέσατο (having called to Him) αὐτὰ (them), λέγων (said), “Ἄφετε (Permit) τὰ (the) παιδία (little children) ἔρχεσθαι (to come) πρός (to) με (Me), καὶ (and) μὴ (not) κωλύετε (do forbid) αὐτά (them); τῶν (of the) γὰρ (for) τοιούτων (such) ἐστὶν (is) ἡ (the) βασιλεία (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God). 17ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you), ὃς (whoever) ἂν (-) μὴ (not) δέξηται (shall receive) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) ὡς (as) παιδίον (a child), οὐ (no) μὴ (not) εἰσέλθῃ (shall enter) εἰς (into) αὐτήν (it).”

18Καὶ (And) ἐπηρώτησέν (asked) τις (a certain) αὐτὸν (Him) ἄρχων (ruler), λέγων (saying), “Διδάσκαλε (Teacher) ἀγαθέ (good), τί (what) ποιήσας (having done), ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal) κληρονομήσω (will I inherit)?”

19Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (then) αὐτῷ (to him) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus), “Τί (Why) με (Me) λέγεις (call you) ἀγαθόν (good)? οὐδεὶς (No one is) ἀγαθὸς (good), εἰ (if) μὴ (not) εἷς (alone) ὁ (-) Θεός (God). 20τὰς (The) ἐντολὰς (commandments) οἶδας (You know): ‘Μὴ (Not) μοιχεύσῃς (shall you commit adultery), Μὴ (not) φονεύσῃς (shall you murder), Μὴ (not) κλέψῃς (shall you steal), Μὴ (not) ψευδομαρτυρήσῃς (shall you bear false witness), Τίμα (you shall honor) τὸν (the) πατέρα (father) σου (of you) καὶ (and) τὴν (the) μητέρα (mother).’a”

21Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (he said), “Ταῦτα (These) πάντα (all) ἐφύλαξα (have I kept) ἐκ (from) νεότητος (the youth) ‹μου› (of me).”

22Ἀκούσας (Having heard) δὲ (then), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ἔτι (Yet) ἕν (one thing) σοι (to you) λείπει (is lacking): πάντα (All), ὅσα (as much as) ἔχεις (you have), πώλησον (sell), καὶ (and) διάδος (distribute) πτωχοῖς (to the poor), καὶ (and) ἕξεις (you will have) θησαυρὸν (treasure) ἐν (in) τοῖς (the) οὐρανοῖς (heavens); καὶ (and) δεῦρο (come), ἀκολούθει (follow) μοι (Me).”

23Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) ἀκούσας (having heard) ταῦτα (these things), περίλυπος (very sorrowful) ἐγενήθη (he became); ἦν (he was) γὰρ (for) πλούσιος (rich) σφόδρα (extremely).

24Ἰδὼν (Having seen) δὲ (then) αὐτὸν (him), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) [περίλυπον (sorrowful) γενόμενον] (became), εἶπεν (saying), “Πῶς (How) δυσκόλως (difficultly) οἱ (those) τὰ (-) χρήματα (riches) ἔχοντες (having), εἰς (into) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) εἰσπορεύονται (shall enter). 25εὐκοπώτερον (Easier) γάρ (for) ἐστιν (it is) κάμηλον (a camel) διὰ (through) τρήματος (an eye) βελόνης (of a needle) εἰσελθεῖν (to go), ἢ (than) πλούσιον (a rich man) εἰς (into) τὴν (the) βασιλείαν (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God) εἰσελθεῖν (to enter).”

26Εἶπαν (Said) δὲ (then) οἱ (those) ἀκούσαντες (having heard), “Καὶ (Then) τίς (who) δύναται (is able) σωθῆναι (to be saved)?”

27Ὁ (-) δὲ (But) εἶπεν (He said), “Τὰ (The things) ἀδύνατα (impossible) παρὰ (with) ἀνθρώποις (men), δυνατὰ (possible) παρὰ (with) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (God) ἐστιν (are).”

28Εἶπεν (Said) δὲ (then) ὁ (-) Πέτρος (Peter), “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἡμεῖς (we) ἀφέντες (having left) τὰ (the) ἴδια (own), ἠκολουθήσαμέν (followed) σοι (You).”

29Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (He said) αὐτοῖς (to them), “Ἀμὴν (Truly) λέγω (I say) ὑμῖν (to you) ὅτι (that) οὐδείς (no one) ἐστιν (there is) ὃς (who) ἀφῆκεν (has left) οἰκίαν (house) ἢ (or) γυναῖκα (wife) ἢ (or) ἀδελφοὺς (brothers) ἢ (or) γονεῖς (parents) ἢ (or) τέκνα (children) ἕνεκεν (for the sake of) τῆς (the) βασιλείας (kingdom) τοῦ (-) Θεοῦ (of God), 30ὃς (who) οὐχὶ (no) μὴ (nothing) ἀπολάβῃ* (shall receive) πολλαπλασίονα (manifold more) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) καιρῷ (time) τούτῳ (this) — καὶ (and) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) αἰῶνι (age) τῷ (that) ἐρχομένῳ (is coming), ζωὴν (life) αἰώνιον (eternal).”

31Παραλαβὼν (Having taken aside) δὲ (then) τοὺς (the) δώδεκα (Twelve), εἶπεν (He said) πρὸς (to) αὐτούς (them), “Ἰδοὺ (Behold), ἀναβαίνομεν (we go up) εἰς (to) Ἰερουσαλήμ (Jerusalem), καὶ (and) τελεσθήσεται (will be accomplished) πάντα (all things) τὰ (-) γεγραμμένα (having been written) διὰ (by) τῶν (the) προφητῶν (prophets) τῷ (about the) Υἱῷ (Son) τοῦ (-) ἀνθρώπου (of Man). 32παραδοθήσεται (He will be betrayed) γὰρ (for) τοῖς (to the) ἔθνεσιν (Gentiles), καὶ (and) ἐμπαιχθήσεται (will be mocked), καὶ (and) ὑβρισθήσεται (will be insulted), καὶ (and) ἐμπτυσθήσεται (will be spit upon). 33καὶ (And) μαστιγώσαντες (having flogged Him), ἀποκτενοῦσιν (they will kill) αὐτόν (Him); καὶ (and) τῇ (on the) ἡμέρᾳ (day) τῇ (-) τρίτῃ (third) ἀναστήσεται (He will rise again).”

34Καὶ (And) αὐτοὶ (they) οὐδὲν (none) τούτων (of these things) συνῆκαν (understood); καὶ (and) ἦν (was) τὸ (the) ῥῆμα (word) τοῦτο (this) κεκρυμμένον (hidden) ἀπ’ (from) αὐτῶν (them), καὶ (and) οὐκ (neither) ἐγίνωσκον (they knew) τὰ (the things) λεγόμενα (being spoken).

35Ἐγένετο (It came to pass) δὲ (then) ἐν (in) τῷ (the) ἐγγίζειν (drawing near) αὐτὸν (of Him) εἰς (to) Ἰεριχὼ (Jericho), τυφλός (a blind man) τις (certain) ἐκάθητο (was sitting) παρὰ (beside) τὴν (the) ὁδὸν (road), ἐπαιτῶν (begging). 36ἀκούσας (Having heard) δὲ (now) ὄχλου (a crowd) διαπορευομένου (passing along), ἐπυνθάνετο (he was asking) τί (what) εἴη (might be) τοῦτο (this).

37Ἀπήγγειλαν (They told) δὲ (then) αὐτῷ (him) ὅτι (-), “Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ὁ (of) Ναζωραῖος (Nazareth) παρέρχεται (is passing by).”

38Καὶ (And) ἐβόησεν (he called out) λέγων (saying), “Ἰησοῦ (Jesus), υἱὲ (Son) Δαυίδ (of David), ἐλέησόν (have mercy on) με (me).”

39Καὶ (And) οἱ (those) προάγοντες (going before) ἐπετίμων (were rebuking) αὐτῷ (him), ἵνα (that) σιγήσῃ (he should be silent). αὐτὸς (He) δὲ (however) πολλῷ (much) μᾶλλον (more) ἔκραζεν (kept crying out), “Υἱὲ (Son) Δαυίδ (of David), ἐλέησόν (have mercy on) με (me).”

40Σταθεὶς (Having stopped) δὲ (then), ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) ἐκέλευσεν (commanded) αὐτὸν (him) ἀχθῆναι (to be brought) πρὸς (to) αὐτόν (Him). ἐγγίσαντος (Having drawn near) δὲ (then) αὐτοῦ (him), ἐπηρώτησεν (He asked) αὐτόν (him), 41“Τί (What) σοι (to you) θέλεις (desire you) ποιήσω (I shall do)?”

Ὁ (-) δὲ (And) εἶπεν (he said), “Κύριε (Lord), ἵνα (that) ἀναβλέψω (I might receive sight).”

42Καὶ (And) ὁ (-) Ἰησοῦς (Jesus) εἶπεν (said) αὐτῷ (to him), “Ἀνάβλεψον (Receive sight)! ἡ (The) πίστις (faith) σου (of you) σέσωκέν (has healed) σε (you).” 43καὶ (And) παραχρῆμα (immediately) ἀνέβλεψεν (he received sight) καὶ (and) ἠκολούθει (began following) αὐτῷ (Him), δοξάζων (glorifying) τὸν (-) Θεόν (God). καὶ (And) πᾶς (all) ὁ (the) λαὸς (people), ἰδὼν (having seen it), ἔδωκεν (gave) αἶνον (praise) τῷ (-) Θεῷ (to God).
