1	Ἔλεγεν δὲ παραβολὴν αὐτοῖς πρὸς τὸ δεῖν πάντοτε προσεύχεσθαι αὐτοὺς καὶ μὴ ἐνκακεῖν	And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.	Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.
2	λέγων Κριτής τις ἦν ἔν τινι πόλει τὸν Θεὸν μὴ φοβούμενος καὶ ἄνθρωπον μὴ ἐντρεπόμενος	He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man.	He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought.
3	χήρα δὲ ἦν ἐν τῇ πόλει ἐκείνῃ καὶ ἤρχετο πρὸς αὐτὸν λέγουσα Ἐκδίκησόν με ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀντιδίκου μου	And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’	And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’
4	Καὶ οὐκ ἤθελεν ἐπὶ χρόνον μετὰ ταῦτα δὲ εἶπεν ἐν ἑαυτῷ Εἰ καὶ τὸν Θεὸν οὐ φοβοῦμαι οὐδὲ ἄνθρωπον ἐντρέπομαι	For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man,	“For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think,
5	διά γε τὸ παρέχειν μοι κόπον τὴν χήραν ταύτην ἐκδικήσω αὐτήν ἵνα μὴ εἰς τέλος ἐρχομένη ὑπωπιάζῃ με	yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’”	yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”
6	Εἶπεν δὲ ὁ Κύριος Ἀκούσατε τί ὁ κριτὴς τῆς ἀδικίας λέγει	And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says.	And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says.
7	ὁ δὲ Θεὸς οὐ μὴ ποιήσῃ τὴν ἐκδίκησιν τῶν ἐκλεκτῶν αὐτοῦ τῶν βοώντων αὐτῷ ἡμέρας καὶ νυκτός καὶ μακροθυμεῖ ἐπ’ αὐτοῖς	And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them?	And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?
8	λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ποιήσει τὴν ἐκδίκησιν αὐτῶν ἐν τάχει πλὴν ὁ Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐλθὼν ἆρα εὑρήσει τὴν πίστιν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς	I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”	I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
9	Εἶπεν δὲ καὶ πρός τινας τοὺς πεποιθότας ἐφ’ ἑαυτοῖς ὅτι εἰσὶν δίκαιοι καὶ ἐξουθενοῦντας τοὺς λοιποὺς τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην	He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt:	To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable:
10	Ἄνθρωποι δύο ἀνέβησαν εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν προσεύξασθαι ὁ εἷς Φαρισαῖος καὶ ὁ ἕτερος τελώνης	“Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.	“Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.
11	ὁ Φαρισαῖος σταθεὶς ταῦτα «πρὸς ἑαυτὸν» προσηύχετο Ὁ Θεός εὐχαριστῶ σοι ὅτι οὐκ εἰμὶ ὥσπερ οἱ λοιποὶ τῶν ἀνθρώπων ἅρπαγες ἄδικοι μοιχοί ἢ καὶ ὡς οὗτος ὁ τελώνης	The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.	The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector.
12	νηστεύω δὶς τοῦ σαββάτου ἀποδεκατῶ πάντα ὅσα κτῶμαι	I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’	I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’
13	Ὁ δὲ τελώνης μακρόθεν ἑστὼς οὐκ ἤθελεν οὐδὲ τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς ἐπᾶραι εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν ἀλλ’ ἔτυπτεν τὸ στῆθος αὐτοῦ λέγων Ὁ Θεός ἱλάσθητί μοι τῷ ἁμαρτωλῷ	But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’	“But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’
14	λέγω ὑμῖν κατέβη οὗτος δεδικαιωμένος εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ παρ’ ἐκεῖνον ὅτι πᾶς ὁ ὑψῶν ἑαυτὸν ταπεινωθήσεται ὁ δὲ ταπεινῶν ἑαυτὸν ὑψωθήσεται	I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”	“I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
15	Προσέφερον δὲ αὐτῷ καὶ τὰ βρέφη ἵνα αὐτῶν ἅπτηται ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ μαθηταὶ ἐπετίμων αὐτοῖς	Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them. And when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them.	People were also bringing babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them.
16	Ὁ δὲ Ἰησοῦς προσεκαλέσατο αὐτὰ λέγων Ἄφετε τὰ παιδία ἔρχεσθαι πρός με καὶ μὴ κωλύετε αὐτά τῶν γὰρ τοιούτων ἐστὶν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ	But Jesus called them to him, saying, “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.	But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
17	ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὃς ἂν μὴ δέξηται τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ ὡς παιδίον οὐ μὴ εἰσέλθῃ εἰς αὐτήν	Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”	Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
18	Καὶ ἐπηρώτησέν τις αὐτὸν ἄρχων λέγων Διδάσκαλε ἀγαθέ τί ποιήσας ζωὴν αἰώνιον κληρονομήσω	And a ruler asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”	A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
19	Εἶπεν δὲ αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς Τί με λέγεις ἀγαθόν οὐδεὶς ἀγαθὸς εἰ μὴ εἷς ὁ Θεός	And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.	“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone.
20	τὰς ἐντολὰς οἶδας Μὴ μοιχεύσῃς Μὴ φονεύσῃς Μὴ κλέψῃς Μὴ ψευδομαρτυρήσῃς Τίμα τὸν πατέρα σου καὶ τὴν μητέρα	You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.’”	You know the commandments: ‘You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’”
21	Ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Ταῦτα πάντα ἐφύλαξα ἐκ νεότητος ‹μου›	And he said, “All these I have kept from my youth.”	“All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said.
22	Ἀκούσας δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἔτι ἕν σοι λείπει πάντα ὅσα ἔχεις πώλησον καὶ διάδος πτωχοῖς καὶ ἕξεις θησαυρὸν ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς καὶ δεῦρο ἀκολούθει μοι	When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”	When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
23	Ὁ δὲ ἀκούσας ταῦτα περίλυπος ἐγενήθη ἦν γὰρ πλούσιος σφόδρα	But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich.	When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy.
24	Ἰδὼν δὲ αὐτὸν ὁ Ἰησοῦς [περίλυπον γενόμενον] εἶπεν Πῶς δυσκόλως οἱ τὰ χρήματα ἔχοντες εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ εἰσπορεύονται	Jesus, seeing that he had become sad, said, “How difficult it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!	Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!
25	εὐκοπώτερον γάρ ἐστιν κάμηλον διὰ τρήματος βελόνης εἰσελθεῖν ἢ πλούσιον εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ Θεοῦ εἰσελθεῖν	For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.”	Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
26	Εἶπαν δὲ οἱ ἀκούσαντες Καὶ τίς δύναται σωθῆναι	Those who heard it said, “Then who can be saved?”	Those who heard this asked, “Who then can be saved?”
27	Ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Τὰ ἀδύνατα παρὰ ἀνθρώποις δυνατὰ παρὰ τῷ Θεῷ ἐστιν	But he said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”	Jesus replied, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.”
28	Εἶπεν δὲ ὁ Πέτρος Ἰδοὺ ἡμεῖς ἀφέντες τὰ ἴδια ἠκολουθήσαμέν σοι	And Peter said, “See, we have left our homes and followed you.”	Peter said to him, “We have left all we had to follow you!”
29	Ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι οὐδείς ἐστιν ὃς ἀφῆκεν οἰκίαν ἢ γυναῖκα ἢ ἀδελφοὺς ἢ γονεῖς ἢ τέκνα ἕνεκεν τῆς βασιλείας τοῦ Θεοῦ	And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God,	“Truly I tell you,” Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or sisters or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God
30	ὃς οὐχὶ μὴ ἀπολάβῃ* πολλαπλασίονα ἐν τῷ καιρῷ τούτῳ καὶ ἐν τῷ αἰῶνι τῷ ἐρχομένῳ ζωὴν αἰώνιον	who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.”	will fail to receive many times as much in this age, and in the age to come eternal life.”
31	Παραλαβὼν δὲ τοὺς δώδεκα εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς Ἰδοὺ ἀναβαίνομεν εἰς Ἰερουσαλήμ καὶ τελεσθήσεται πάντα τὰ γεγραμμένα διὰ τῶν προφητῶν τῷ Υἱῷ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου	And taking the twelve, he said to them, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man by the prophets will be accomplished.	Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled.
32	παραδοθήσεται γὰρ τοῖς ἔθνεσιν καὶ ἐμπαιχθήσεται καὶ ὑβρισθήσεται καὶ ἐμπτυσθήσεται	For he will be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and shamefully treated and spit upon.	He will be delivered over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him and spit on him;
33	καὶ μαστιγώσαντες ἀποκτενοῦσιν αὐτόν καὶ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ ἀναστήσεται	And after flogging him, they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise.”	they will flog him and kill him. On the third day he will rise again.”
34	Καὶ αὐτοὶ οὐδὲν τούτων συνῆκαν καὶ ἦν τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο ἀπ’ αὐτῶν καὶ οὐκ ἐγίνωσκον τὰ λεγόμενα	But they understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said.	The disciples did not understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.
35	Ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ ἐγγίζειν αὐτὸν εἰς Ἰεριχὼ τυφλός τις ἐκάθητο παρὰ τὴν ὁδὸν ἐπαιτῶν	As he drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging.	As Jesus approached Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging.
36	ἀκούσας δὲ ὄχλου διαπορευομένου ἐπυνθάνετο τί εἴη τοῦτο	And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant.	When he heard the crowd going by, he asked what was happening.
37	Ἀπήγγειλαν δὲ αὐτῷ ὅτι Ἰησοῦς ὁ Ναζωραῖος παρέρχεται	They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”	They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.”
38	Καὶ ἐβόησεν λέγων Ἰησοῦ υἱὲ Δαυίδ ἐλέησόν με	And he cried out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”	He called out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
39	Καὶ οἱ προάγοντες ἐπετίμων αὐτῷ ἵνα σιγήσῃ αὐτὸς δὲ πολλῷ μᾶλλον ἔκραζεν Υἱὲ Δαυίδ ἐλέησόν με	And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”	Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
40	Σταθεὶς δὲ ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἐκέλευσεν αὐτὸν ἀχθῆναι πρὸς αὐτόν ἐγγίσαντος δὲ αὐτοῦ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτόν	And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him,	Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him,
41	Τί σοι θέλεις ποιήσω Ὁ δὲ εἶπεν Κύριε ἵνα ἀναβλέψω	“What do you want me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, let me recover my sight.”	“What do you want me to do for you?” “Lord, I want to see,” he replied.
42	Καὶ ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ἀνάβλεψον ἡ πίστις σου σέσωκέν σε	And Jesus said to him, “Recover your sight; your faith has made you well.”	Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.”
43	καὶ παραχρῆμα ἀνέβλεψεν καὶ ἠκολούθει αὐτῷ δοξάζων τὸν Θεόν καὶ πᾶς ὁ λαὸς ἰδὼν ἔδωκεν αἶνον τῷ Θεῷ	And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.	Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God. When all the people saw it, they also praised God.
