And <i>then</i> Pilate came out again and said to them, “See, I am bringing Him out to you so that you will know that I find no grounds at all for charges in His case.” Once more Pilate came out and said to the Jews gathered there, “Look, I am bringing him out to you to let you know that I find no basis for a charge against him.”

7 “We have a law, answered the Jews, “and according to that law He must die, because He declared Himself to be the Son of God. The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and according to that law he ought to die because he has made himself the Son of God.” The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God. The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and by that law He ought to die, because He made Himself <i>out to be</i> the Son of God!” The Jewish leaders insisted, “We have a law, and according to that law he must die, because he claimed to be the Son of God.”

Do you not know that I have authority to release you and authority to crucify you?” Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee? So Pilate said to Him, “Are you not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have authority to release You, and I have authority to crucify You?” “Do you refuse to speak to me?” Pilate said. “Don’t you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?”
11 Jesus answered, “You would have no authority over Me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed Me over to you is guilty of greater sin. Jesus answered him, “You would have no authority over me at all unless it had been given you from above. Therefore he who delivered me over to you has the greater sin.” Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power <i>at all</i> against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin. Jesus answered him, “You would have no authority over Me at all, if it had not been given to you from above; for this reason the one who handed Me over to you has <i>the</i> greater sin.” Jesus answered, “You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above. Therefore the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin.”
12 From then on, Pilate tried to release Him, but the Jews kept shouting, “If you release this man, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who declares himself a king is defying Caesar. From then on Pilate sought to release him, but the Jews cried out, “If you release this man, you are not Caesar’s friend. Everyone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar.” And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar's friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar. As a result of this, Pilate made efforts to release Him; but the Jews shouted, saying, “If you release this Man, you are not a friend of Caesar; everyone who makes himself <i>out to be</i> a king opposes Caesar!” From then on, Pilate tried to set Jesus free, but the Jewish leaders kept shouting, “If you let this man go, you are no friend of Caesar. Anyone who claims to be a king opposes Caesar.”
13 When Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus out and sat on the judgment seat at a place called the Stone Pavement, which in Hebrew is Gabbatha. 15 At this, they shouted, “Away with Him! Away with Him! Crucify Him! “Shall I crucify your King? Pilate asked. “We have no king but Caesar, replied the chief priests. They cried out, “Away with him, away with him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.” But they cried out, Away with <i>him</i>, away with <i>him</i>, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. So they shouted, “Away with <i>Him,</i> away with <i>Him,</i> crucify Him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king except Caesar.” But they shouted, “Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!” “Shall I crucify your king?” Pilate asked. “We have no king but Caesar,” the chief priests answered.
16 Then Pilate handed Jesus over to be crucified, and the soldiers took Him away. So he delivered him over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus, Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led <i>him</i> away. So he then handed Him over to them to be crucified. 23 When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they divided His garments into four parts, one for each soldier, with the tunic remaining. It was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom. 24 So they said to one another, “Let us not tear it. Instead, let us cast lots to see who will get it. This was to fulfill the Scripture: “They divided My garments among them, and cast lots for My clothing.” So that is what the soldiers did. so they said to one another, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it to see whose it shall be.” This was to fulfill the Scripture which says, “They divided my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.” So the soldiers did these things, They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did. So they said to one another, “Let’s not tear it, but cast lots for it, <i>to decide</i> whose it shall be.” <i>This happened</i> so that the Scripture would be fulfilled: “THEY DIVIDED MY GARMENTS AMONG THEMSELVES, AND THEY CAST LOTS FOR MY CLOTHING.” Therefore the soldiers did these things. “Let’s not tear it,” they said to one another. “Let’s decide by lot who will get it.” This happened that the scripture might be fulfilled that said, “They divided my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment.” So this is what the soldiers did.
25 Near the cross of Jesus stood His mother and her sister, as well as Mary the wife of Clopas and Mary Magdalene. but standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 27 Then He said to the disciple, “Here is your mother. So from that hour, this disciple took her into his home. And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own <i>home</i>. Then He said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own <i>household.</i> and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.
28 After this, knowing that everything had now been accomplished, and to fulfill the Scripture, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. After this, Jesus, knowing that all things had already been accomplished, in order that the Scripture would be fulfilled, said, “I am thirsty.” Later, knowing that everything had now been finished, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.”
29 A jar of sour wine was sitting there. So they soaked a sponge in the wine, put it on a stalk of hyssop, and lifted it to His mouth. A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put <i>it</i> upon hyssop, and put <i>it</i> to his mouth. A jar full of sour wine was standing <i>there;</i> so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on <i>a branch of</i> hyssop and brought it <i>up</i> to His mouth. A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips.
30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished. And bowing His head, He yielded up His spirit. When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
31 It was the day of Preparation, and the next day was a High Sabbath. In order that the bodies would not remain on the cross during the Sabbath, the Jews asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies removed. Since it was the day of Preparation, and so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away. The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and <i>that</i> they might be taken away. Now then, since it was the day of preparation, to prevent the bodies from remaining on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews requested of Pilate that their legs be broken, and <i>the bodies</i> be taken away. Now it was the day of Preparation, and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jewish leaders did not want the bodies left on the crosses during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down.
32 So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and those of the other. And he that saw <i>it</i> bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe. And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you also may believe. The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe.
36 Now these things happened so that the Scripture would be fulfilled: “Not one of His bones will be broken.” For these things took place that the Scripture might be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken.” For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken. For these things took place so that the Scripture would be fulfilled: “NOT A BONE OF HIM SHALL BE BROKEN.” These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled: “Not one of his bones will be broken,”
37 And, as another Scripture says: “They will look on the One they have pierced.” And again another Scripture says, “They will look on him whom they have pierced.” And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced. And again another Scripture says, “THEY WILL LOOK AT HIM WHOM THEY PIERCED.” and, as another scripture says, “They will look on the one they have pierced.”
38 Afterward, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus (but secretly for fear of the Jews), asked Pilate to let him remove the body of Jesus. Pilate gave him permission, so he came and removed His body. After these things Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took away his body. And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave <i>him</i> leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away.
39 Nicodemus, who had previously come to Jesus at night, also brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. Nicodemus also, who earlier had come to Jesus by night, came bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds in weight. And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound <i>weight</i>.
