1 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. The first <i>day</i> of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. 2 So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, she said, “and we do not know where they have put Him! So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him. So she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we do not know where they have put Him.” So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”
3 Then Peter and the other disciple set out for the tomb. So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb. Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre. So Peter and the other disciple left, and they were going to the tomb. So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb.
4 The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre. The two were running together; and the other disciple ran ahead, faster than Peter, and came to the tomb first; Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first.
5 He bent down and looked in at the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. And stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. And he stooping down, <i>and looking in</i>, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in. and he stooped to look <i>in,</i> and saw the linen wrappings lying <i>there;</i> however he did not go in. He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in.
6 Simon Peter arrived just after him. He entered the tomb and saw the linen cloths lying there. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there, Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, So Simon Peter also came, following him, and he entered the tomb; and he looked at the linen wrappings lying <i>there,</i> Then Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there,
7 The cloth that had been around Jesus’ head was rolled up, lying separate from the linen cloths. and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself. And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself. and the face-cloth which had been on His head, not lying with the linen wrappings but folded up in a place by itself. as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place, separate from the linen.
8 Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in. And he saw and believed. 11 But Mary stood outside the tomb weeping. And as she wept, she bent down to look into the tomb, But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, <i>and looked</i> into the sepulchre, But Mary was standing outside the tomb, weeping; so as she wept, she stooped to look into the tomb; Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. 12 and she saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and the other at the feet. 13 “Woman, why are you weeping? they asked. “Because they have taken my Lord away, she said, “and I do not know where they have put Him. They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him. And they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they put Him.” They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?” “They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.”
14 When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there; but she did not recognize that it was Jesus. Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing <i>there,</i> and <i>yet</i> she did not know that it was Jesus. 15 “Woman, why are you weeping? Jesus asked. “Whom are you seeking? Thinking He was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried Him off, tell me where you have put Him, and I will get Him. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” Thinking that He was the gardener, she said to Him, “Sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you put Him, and I will take Him away.” He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?” Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”
16 Jesus said to her, “Mary. She turned and said to Him in Hebrew, “Rabboni! (which means “Teacher”). Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher). Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to Him in Hebrew, “Rabboni!” (which means, Teacher). Jesus said to her, “Mary.” She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”).
17 “Do not cling to Me, Jesus said, “for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go and tell My brothers, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, to My God and your God. Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and <i>to</i> my God, and your God. Jesus said to her, “Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God.’” Jesus said, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”
18 Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord! And she told them what He had said to her. Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord”—and that he had said these things to her. On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” Then the same day at evening, being the first <i>day</i> of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace <i>be</i> unto you. Now when it was evening on that day, the first <i>day</i> of the week, and when the doors were shut where the disciples were <i>together</i> due to fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst, and said to them, “Peace <i>be</i> to you.” On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”
20 After He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. And when he had so said, he shewed unto them <i>his</i> hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord. 21 Again Jesus said to them, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, so also I am sending you. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. So Jesus said to them again, “Peace <i>be</i> to you; just as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”
22 When He had said this, He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, <i>their sins</i> have been forgiven them; if you retain the <i>sins</i> of any, they have been retained.” If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”
24 Now Thomas called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.” The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. So the other disciples were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.” So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”
26 Eight days later, His disciples were once again inside with the doors locked, and Thomas was with them. Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you. Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: <i>then</i> came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace <i>be</i> unto you. Eight days later His disciples were again inside, and Thomas <i>was</i> with them. Jesus came, the doors having been shut, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace <i>be</i> to you.” A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”
27 Then Jesus said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and look at My hands. Reach out your hand and put it into My side. Stop doubting and believe. Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust <i>it</i> into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. Then He said to Thomas, “Place your finger here, and see My hands; and take your hand and put it into My side; and do not continue in disbelief, but <i>be</i> a believer.” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”
28 Thomas replied, “My Lord and my God! Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”
29 Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed <i>are</i> they that have not seen, and <i>yet</i> have believed. Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you <i>now</i> believed? Blessed <i>are</i> they who did not see, and <i>yet</i> believed.” Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book.
