Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,1Τότε προσέρχονται τῷ Ἰησοῦ ἀπὸ Ἱεροσολύμων Φαρισαῖοι καὶ γραμματεῖς λέγοντες
Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.2Διὰ τί οἱ μαθηταί σου παραβαίνουσιν τὴν παράδοσιν τῶν πρεσβυτέρων οὐ γὰρ νίπτονται τὰς χεῖρας ‹αὐτῶν› ὅταν ἄρτον ἐσθίωσιν
But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?3 δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Διὰ τί καὶ ὑμεῖς παραβαίνετε τὴν ἐντολὴν τοῦ Θεοῦ διὰ τὴν παράδοσιν ὑμῶν
For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.4 γὰρ Θεὸς εἶπεν Τίμα τὸν πατέρα καὶ τὴν μητέρα καί κακολογῶν πατέρα μητέρα θανάτῳ τελευτάτω
But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;5ὑμεῖς δὲ λέγετε Ὃς ἂν εἴπῃ τῷ πατρὶ τῇ μητρί Δῶρον ἐὰν ἐξ ἐμοῦ ὠφεληθῇς
And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.6οὐ μὴ τιμήσει τὸν πατέρα αὐτοῦ 〈ἢ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ〉 καὶ ἠκυρώσατε τὸν λόγον τοῦ Θεοῦ διὰ τὴν παράδοσιν ὑμῶν
Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,7ὑποκριταί καλῶς ἐπροφήτευσεν περὶ ὑμῶν Ἠσαΐας λέγων
This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.8 λαὸς οὗτος τοῖς χείλεσίν με τιμᾷ δὲ καρδία αὐτῶν πόρρω ἀπέχει ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ
But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.9Μάτην δὲ σέβονταί με Διδάσκοντες διδασκαλίας ἐντάλματα ἀνθρώπων
And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:10Καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος τὸν ὄχλον εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ἀκούετε καὶ συνίετε
Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.11οὐ τὸ εἰσερχόμενον εἰς τὸ στόμα κοινοῖ τὸν ἄνθρωπον ἀλλὰ τὸ ἐκπορευόμενον ἐκ τοῦ στόματος τοῦτο κοινοῖ τὸν ἄνθρωπον
Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?12Τότε προσελθόντες οἱ μαθηταὶ λέγουσιν αὐτῷ Οἶδας ὅτι οἱ Φαρισαῖοι ἀκούσαντες τὸν λόγον ἐσκανδαλίσθησαν
But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.13 δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν Πᾶσα φυτεία ἣν οὐκ ἐφύτευσεν Πατήρ μου οὐράνιος ἐκριζωθήσεται
Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.14ἄφετε αὐτούς τυφλοί εἰσιν ὁδηγοί τυφλῶν τυφλὸς δὲ τυφλὸν ἐὰν ὁδηγῇ ἀμφότεροι εἰς βόθυνον πεσοῦνται
Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.15Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ Πέτρος εἶπεν αὐτῷ Φράσον ἡμῖν τὴν παραβολήν ‹ταύτην›
And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?16 δὲ εἶπεν Ἀκμὴν καὶ ὑμεῖς ἀσύνετοί ἐστε
Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?17οὐ νοεῖτε ὅτι πᾶν τὸ εἰσπορευόμενον εἰς τὸ στόμα εἰς τὴν κοιλίαν χωρεῖ καὶ εἰς ἀφεδρῶνα ἐκβάλλεται
But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.18τὰ δὲ ἐκπορευόμενα ἐκ τοῦ στόματος ἐκ τῆς καρδίας ἐξέρχεται κἀκεῖνα κοινοῖ τὸν ἄνθρωπον
For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:19ἐκ γὰρ τῆς καρδίας ἐξέρχονται διαλογισμοὶ πονηροί φόνοι μοιχεῖαι πορνεῖαι κλοπαί ψευδομαρτυρίαι βλασφημίαι
These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.20ταῦτά ἐστιν τὰ κοινοῦντα τὸν ἄνθρωπον τὸ δὲ ἀνίπτοις χερσὶν φαγεῖν οὐ κοινοῖ τὸν ἄνθρωπον
Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.21Καὶ ἐξελθὼν ἐκεῖθεν Ἰησοῦς ἀνεχώρησεν εἰς τὰ μέρη Τύρου καὶ Σιδῶνος
And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.22καὶ ἰδοὺ γυνὴ Χαναναία ἀπὸ τῶν ὁρίων ἐκείνων ἐξελθοῦσα ἔκραζεν λέγουσα Ἐλέησόν με Κύριε υἱὸς Δαυίδ θυγάτηρ μου κακῶς δαιμονίζεται
But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.23 δὲ οὐκ ἀπεκρίθη αὐτῇ λόγον καὶ προσελθόντες οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ ἠρώτουν αὐτὸν λέγοντες Ἀπόλυσον αὐτήν ὅτι κράζει ὄπισθεν ἡμῶν
But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.24 δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν Οὐκ ἀπεστάλην εἰ μὴ εἰς τὰ πρόβατα τὰ ἀπολωλότα οἴκου Ἰσραήλ
Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.25 δὲ ἐλθοῦσα προσεκύνει αὐτῷ λέγουσα Κύριε βοήθει μοι
But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.26 δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν Οὐκ ἔστιν καλὸν λαβεῖν τὸν ἄρτον τῶν τέκνων καὶ βαλεῖν τοῖς κυναρίοις
And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.27 δὲ εἶπεν Ναί κύριε καὶ γὰρ τὰ κυνάρια ἐσθίει ἀπὸ τῶν ψιχίων τῶν πιπτόντων ἀπὸ τῆς τραπέζης τῶν κυρίων αὐτῶν
Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.28Τότε ἀποκριθεὶς Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτῇ γύναι μεγάλη σου πίστις γενηθήτω σοι ὡς θέλεις καὶ ἰάθη θυγάτηρ αὐτῆς ἀπὸ τῆς ὥρας ἐκείνης
And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there.29Καὶ μεταβὰς ἐκεῖθεν Ἰησοῦς ἦλθεν παρὰ τὴν θάλασσαν τῆς Γαλιλαίας καὶ ἀναβὰς εἰς τὸ ὄρος ἐκάθητο ἐκεῖ
And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them:30καὶ προσῆλθον αὐτῷ ὄχλοι πολλοὶ ἔχοντες μεθ’ ἑαυτῶν χωλούς κυλλούς τυφλούς κωφούς καὶ ἑτέρους πολλούς καὶ ἔρριψαν* αὐτοὺς παρὰ τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐθεράπευσεν αὐτούς
Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.31ὥστε τὸν ὄχλον θαυμάσαι βλέποντας κωφοὺς λαλοῦντας κυλλοὺς ὑγιεῖς καὶ χωλοὺς περιπατοῦντας καὶ τυφλοὺς βλέποντας καὶ ἐδόξασαν τὸν Θεὸν Ἰσραήλ
Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.32 δὲ Ἰησοῦς προσκαλεσάμενος τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ εἶπεν Σπλαγχνίζομαι ἐπὶ τὸν ὄχλον ὅτι ἤδη ἡμέραι τρεῖς προσμένουσίν μοι καὶ οὐκ ἔχουσιν τί φάγωσιν καὶ ἀπολῦσαι αὐτοὺς νήστεις οὐ θέλω μή‿ ποτε ἐκλυθῶσιν ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ
And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?33Καὶ λέγουσιν αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταί Πόθεν ἡμῖν ἐν ἐρημίᾳ ἄρτοι τοσοῦτοι ὥστε χορτάσαι ὄχλον τοσοῦτον
And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes.34Καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς Ἰησοῦς Πόσους ἄρτους ἔχετε Οἱ δὲ εἶπαν Ἑπτά καὶ ὀλίγα ἰχθύδια
And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.35Καὶ παραγγείλας τῷ ὄχλῳ ἀναπεσεῖν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν
And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.36ἔλαβεν τοὺς ἑπτὰ ἄρτους καὶ τοὺς ἰχθύας καὶ εὐχαριστήσας ἔκλασεν καὶ ἐδίδου τοῖς μαθηταῖς οἱ δὲ μαθηταὶ τοῖς ὄχλοις
And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.37Καὶ ἔφαγον πάντες καὶ ἐχορτάσθησαν καὶ τὸ περισσεῦον τῶν κλασμάτων ἦραν ἑπτὰ σπυρίδας πλήρεις
And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.38οἱ δὲ ἐσθίοντες ἦσαν τετρακισχίλιοι ἄνδρες χωρὶς γυναικῶν καὶ παιδίων
And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala.39Καὶ ἀπολύσας τοὺς ὄχλους ἐνέβη εἰς τὸ πλοῖον καὶ ἦλθεν εἰς τὰ ὅρια Μαγαδάν
