Berean Study Bible The First Six Bowls of WrathFrom the heavenly temple, the center of God’s holy presence and sovereign authority, the command is issued to begin the final judgments. The voice carries divine authority and signals that the time for restraint has ended. Isa 66:6 Hear the uproar from the city; listen to the voice… saying to the seven angels, The seven angels who received the bowls are summoned to carry out the judgments entrusted to them. Their actions proceed under God’s authority and according to His determined purpose. Rev 15:6 And out of the temple came the seven angels… “Go, pour out on the earth the seven bowls of God’s wrath.” The bowls contain the full measure of God’s wrath against a world hardened in rebellion. As they are poured out, judgment will fall upon the earth in a series of literal, worldwide plagues, completing the judgments that precede Christ’s return. Rev 15:7 Then one of the four living creatures gave the seven angels… So the first angel went and poured out his bowl on the earth, The first bowl begins the final series of judgments God sends upon a rebellious world. Its effect reaches the earth broadly, showing that the coming judgment is not local or symbolic but falls upon those who have rejected God’s rule. Jer 25:15-17 This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, said to me:… and loathsome, malignant sores broke out Painful, festering sores afflict the guilty, recalling the plague of boils upon Egypt. The judgment is physical, immediate, and severe, exposing the misery brought by persistent rebellion against God. Exo 9:9-11 It will become fine dust over all the land of Egypt,… on those who had the mark of the beast The sores are limited to those who received the beast’s mark, identifying themselves with the Antichrist’s kingdom and accepting its authority in defiance of God. Rev 13:16-17 And the second beast required all people, small and great,… and worshiped its image. Those who worshiped the beast’s image chose idolatry over the worship of the true God. Their judgment reflects the consequences of their deliberate allegiance to the beast and his counterfeit kingdom. Dan 3:5-6 As soon as you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither,… And the second angel poured out his bowl into the sea, The second bowl continues God’s final judgments upon a rebellious world. The sea, a vital source of food, trade, and travel, becomes the object of direct divine judgment. Rev 8:8 Then the second angel sounded his trumpet,… and it turned to blood like that of the dead, Its waters become like the blood of a corpse—corrupted, lifeless, and unfit to sustain anything. The judgment recalls Egypt’s plague of blood but reaches far beyond a single river or nation. Exo 7:20 Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD had commanded;… and every living thing in the sea died. All marine life perishes, bringing devastation to the world’s food supply and commerce. What God created to teem with life is struck with death, displaying the comprehensive severity of His wrath. Rev 8:9 A third of the living creatures in the sea died.… And the third angel poured out his bowl The third bowl continues the ordered outpouring of God’s final judgments upon a rebellious world. Each angel carries out a distinct act under God’s authority, demonstrating that these events are deliberate and complete. Rev 15:7 Then one of the four living creatures gave the seven angels… into the rivers and springs of water, Freshwater sources, essential for drinking, agriculture, and life, come under judgment. Rivers and springs that ordinarily sustain human populations become instruments of divine retribution. Exo 7:19-20 Take your staff and stretch out your hand… and they turned to blood. The waters become blood, bringing death and devastation rather than life. As with Egypt’s plague upon the Nile, God judges those who have hardened themselves against Him and persecuted His people. Psa 105:29 He turned their waters to blood and caused… And I heard the angel of the waters say: John hears an angel assigned to the realm of waters, which had just been turned to blood under the third bowl judgment. The angel’s response confirms that the devastation is not arbitrary but proceeds under God’s authority. Rev 10:1 Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven,… “Righteous are You, O Holy One, God remains morally perfect and wholly set apart even as He judges a rebellious world. His holiness ensures that His judgments are never cruel, excessive, or unjust. Deu 32:4 He is the Rock, His work is perfect; all His ways are just.… who is and was, The eternal God rules over every age of history. He existed before creation, governs the present, and will bring His purposes to completion. Rev 1:4 John, To the seven churches in the province of Asia:… because You have brought these judgments. The bowl judgments are God’s direct response to persistent human rebellion, idolatry, and persecution of His people. Heaven recognizes that the punishment fits the evil that has filled the earth. Rev 15:4 Who will not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name?… For they have spilled the blood of saints and prophets, God’s people have repeatedly faced violence for their faithfulness to Him. Prophets were rejected and killed for declaring His word, and believers were persecuted for their witness to Christ. Their deaths are not forgotten before God. Rev 18:24 And there was found in her the blood of prophets… and You have given them blood to drink, Those responsible for shedding innocent blood receive a judgment fitting their deeds. The image recalls God’s judgments upon those who defied Him and oppressed His people, showing that He repays evil with perfect justice. Isa 49:26 I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh;… as they deserve.” God’s judgment is neither excessive nor arbitrary. Those who chose violence against His servants are held accountable for their actions and receive the punishment their rebellion has earned. Jer 50:29 Summon the archers against Babylon, all who string the bow.… And I heard the altar reply: The altar speaks in agreement with the voices of the martyrs whose prayers for justice had risen before God. Its response shows that the judgments being poured out answer the long-standing cry of God’s persecuted people and reveal that their suffering has not been forgotten. Rev 9:13 Then the sixth angel sounded his trumpet, and… “Yes, Lord God Almighty, Heaven acknowledges God’s absolute rule over the nations, rulers, and events of the final judgment. The One directing these plagues possesses all power and acts according to His sovereign purpose. Rev 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God,… true and just are Your judgments.” The destruction falling on those who shed innocent blood is deserved and proportionate. God’s judgments expose evil, vindicate His saints, and prepare the way for the full establishment of His righteous kingdom. Rev 15:3 and they sang the song of God’s servant Moses… Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, The fourth bowl judgment falls upon the sun, showing God’s authority over the created order. What normally gives light, warmth, and life becomes a means of affliction during the final outpouring of wrath. Rev 8:12 Then the fourth angel sounded his trumpet… and it was given power to scorch the people with fire. The sun’s intensified heat brings severe physical suffering upon those living under God’s judgment. The disaster reflects the growing severity of the bowl judgments and confronts a world that has continued in rebellion despite earlier warnings. Rev 7:16 Never again will they hunger, and never will they thirst;… And the people were scorched by intense heat, The fourth bowl brings a severe, literal scorching heat upon the earth, intensifying the suffering of those living under God’s judgment. The sun, created to sustain life, becomes an instrument of judgment. Deu 28:22 The LORD will strike you with wasting disease… and they cursed the name of God, Rather than recognizing their rebellion and turning from sin, the afflicted respond with open blasphemy. Their suffering exposes the settled hostility of hearts that have chosen allegiance to the beast and rejection of God. Lev 24:16 Whoever blasphemes the name of the LORD… who had authority over these plagues. God remains sovereign over every judgment released upon the earth. These plagues are neither accidental nor beyond His control; they are appointed acts of justice during the final period of tribulation. Exo 9:14-16 Otherwise, I will send all My plagues against you and your officials… Yet they did not repent and give Him glory. Even under unmistakable judgment, the inhabitants of the earth refuse repentance. Their refusal confirms the moral hardness that has marked the rebellious world and demonstrates that judgment does not itself produce repentance in those determined to resist God. Rom 2:4-5 Or do you disregard the riches of His kindness… And the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, The fifth bowl strikes the beast’s seat of authority, the center from which the Antichrist rules his global kingdom in defiance of God. The judgment reaches beyond individual followers to the power structure sustaining his reign. Rev 13:2 The beast I saw was like a leopard, with the feet of a bear… and its kingdom was plunged into darkness, The beast’s domain is overwhelmed by a literal darkness that brings terror, confusion, and the collapse of confidence in his rule. As Egypt was darkened under God’s judgment, the kingdom that exalted itself against God is exposed as powerless. Exo 10:21-23 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand”… and men began to gnaw their tongues in anguish Those under the beast’s rule suffer severe physical and emotional torment. Their agony reveals the devastation of divine judgment, yet the following verse shows that suffering does not necessarily produce repentance. Zec 14:12 And this will be the plague with which the LORD… and curse the God of heaven for their pains and sores. Under the fifth bowl, those aligned with the beast suffer darkness, pain, and the continuing effects of the earlier sores. Rather than recognizing God’s judgment and His authority over heaven and earth, they respond with open blasphemy. Their suffering exposes the settled rebellion of a world that has chosen the beast’s rule over obedience to God. Job 2:7-9 So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD… Yet they did not repent of their deeds. Judgment does not produce repentance in those whose allegiance remains fixed against God. Their refusal includes the sins, idolatry, violence, and deception that marked their rebellion throughout the tribulation. Even under unmistakable divine judgment, they persist in the course they have chosen. Jer 8:6 I have listened and heard; they do not speak what is right.… And the sixth angel poured out his bowl The sixth bowl advances the final judgments God has decreed upon a rebellious world. The angel carries out God’s command, showing that these events unfold under divine authority and according to His appointed order. Jer 25:15-17 This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, said to me:… on the great river Euphrates, The Euphrates formed a major eastern boundary in the biblical world and served as a natural barrier between the land of Israel and powerful eastern kingdoms. Jos 1:4 Your territory shall extend from the wilderness and Lebanon… and its water was dried up God removes this barrier as part of His final judgment, much as He previously made paths through waters for the fulfillment of His purposes. Exo 14:21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea,… to prepare the way for the kings of the East. Rulers and armies from east of the Euphrates will be enabled to move westward for the final gathering of the nations. Their advance is not outside God’s control but serves His purpose in bringing the world toward the conflict described at Armageddon. Isa 40:3 A voice of one calling: “Prepare the way for the LORD… And I saw John records another divinely given vision that reveals the spiritual forces working behind the final rebellion against God. Rev 1:12 Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me.… three unclean spirits These demonic spirits are united in purpose and represent a complete satanic effort to gather the nations for war against God. Mrk 1:23-27 Suddenly a man with an unclean spirit cried out… that looked like frogs Their frog-like appearance recalls the plague of frogs upon Egypt and portrays them as vile, corrupting, and associated with divine judgment. Exo 8:2-6 But if you refuse to let them go, I will plague your country… coming out of the mouths They advance Satan’s purposes through deception, issuing lies and false claims that influence rulers and peoples. Rev 12:15-16 Then from his mouth the serpent spewed water like a river… of the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet. Satan, the beast, and the false prophet form a counterfeit trinity, combining demonic power, political authority, and religious deception to oppose Christ and draw the world into its final conflict. Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent… These are demonic spirits They come from the forces aligned with the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet, working in open rebellion against God. 1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit expressly states that in later times… that perform signs Their miracles are real displays of supernatural power, but they are intended to deceive the nations and strengthen allegiance to the beast. Rev 13:13-14 And the second beast performed great signs… and go out to all the kings of the earth, Their influence extends to the world’s rulers, drawing political and military powers into a common defiance of God. Psa 2:2 The kings of the earth take their stand… to assemble them for battle The kings are gathered for the final conflict against the Lord and His people, though their rebellion remains under God’s sovereign control. Jol 3:9-11 Proclaim this among the nations: “Prepare for war;… on the great day of God the Almighty. This is the appointed day of final judgment, when God decisively defeats His enemies and establishes His righteous rule. Rev 19:15-16 And from His mouth proceeds a sharp sword… “Behold, I am coming like a thief. In the midst of the final gathering of the nations for battle, Christ warns that His return will be sudden and unexpected for those who are unprepared. The comparison points to the surprise of His arrival, not to secrecy, and calls for readiness as the day of judgment approaches. 1Th 5:2 For you are fully aware that the Day of the Lord… Blessed is the one who remains awake and clothed, Those who remain spiritually alert and faithful will not be swept away by the deception and rebellion surrounding the end-time conflict. Clothing represents the righteousness and honor belonging to those who are prepared to meet Christ. Luk 12:37 Blessed are those servants whom the master finds on watch.… so that he will not go naked and let his shame be exposed.” Nakedness pictures disgrace and the exposure of sin. Those unprepared for Christ’s coming will face shame before Him, while the faithful will be found ready when He appears. Rev 3:18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined by fire…… And they assembled the kings Demonic spirits gather the rulers of the earth for the final conflict against God. Their unity reflects open rebellion and prepares the nations for divine judgment. Rev 19:19 Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth… in the place The gathering occurs at a real location appointed in God’s plan, showing that the final battle will unfold in history and not merely as a symbol. Jol 3:2 I will gather all the nations and bring them down… that in Hebrew is called Armageddon. Armageddon, derived from the Hebrew “Har Megiddo,” meaning “Mount of Megiddo,” points to the region of Megiddo in northern Israel, a strategic battlefield known for major conflicts throughout Israel’s history. It becomes the setting associated with the final mustering of the world’s armies before Christ’s victory over His enemies. Jdg 5:19 Kings came and fought; then the kings of Canaan…
The Seventh Bowl of WrathThe final bowl brings God’s judgments upon the whole rebellious world and reaches even the spiritual powers behind its opposition to God. Rev 9:2 The star opened the pit of the Abyss, and smoke rose… and a loud voice came from the throne in the temple, The declaration comes from God’s throne in the heavenly temple, showing that the judgment is His sovereign and holy decree. Rev 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying:… saying, “It is done!” The seven bowls of wrath are complete. God’s judgment has reached its appointed end, and the events leading to the fall of Babylon, Christ’s return, and the final defeat of evil now unfold. Rev 21:6 And He told me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega,… And there were flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, Heavenly signs announce God’s direct intervention as the seventh bowl brings His judgments to their climax. Rev 4:5 From the throne came flashes of lightning… and a great earthquake A worldwide earthquake shakes the earth with unparalleled force, exposing the instability of every human power opposed to God. Rev 11:13 And in that hour there was a great earthquake,… the likes of which had not occurred since men were upon the earth— No previous disaster in human history compares with the scale of this judgment. Mat 24:21 For at that time there will be great tribulation,… so mighty was the great quake. The devastation prepares for the fall of Babylon and demonstrates God’s final authority over the nations and creation. Ezk 38:19 In My zeal and fiery rage I proclaim that on that day… The great city was split into three parts, Jerusalem is divided in the unprecedented earthquake that accompanies the seventh bowl judgment. Its division marks the severe disruption of the city at the center of end-times events. Rev 11:13 And in that hour there was a great earthquake,… and the cities of the nations collapsed. The earthquake extends worldwide, bringing down the great centers of human power and commerce. No nation escapes the reach of God’s judgment. Jer 4:26-28 I looked, and the fruitful land was a desert.… And God remembered Babylon the great God turns His judgment fully upon Babylon, the final world center of rebellion, idolatry, wealth, and persecution. Her long-standing defiance is brought to its appointed end. Rev 18:5-8 For her sins are piled up to heaven, … and gave her the cup of the wine of the fury of His wrath. Babylon receives the full outpouring of divine judgment. The imagery portrays wrath administered without mitigation against a system that has exalted itself against God. Jer 25:15-17 This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, said to me:… Then every island fled, God’s judgment will bring a real and sweeping upheaval of the created order. Even distant lands and seemingly secure places will not escape His wrath. Rev 6:14 The sky receded like a scroll being rolled up,… and no mountain could be found. Mountains, long regarded as symbols of strength and permanence, will be removed. The collapse of the earth’s most stable features shows that nothing in the present world can stand against the Lord as He prepares for the new creation. Isa 54:10 Though the mountains may be removed and the hills… And great hailstones weighing almost a hundred pounds each rained down on them from above. The seventh bowl brings a final, devastating judgment upon the rebellious world. Hail, long associated with God’s judgment in Scripture, falls with supernatural force, making escape impossible and demonstrating His absolute authority over creation. The unprecedented weight of the stones underscores the severity of this catastrophe and fulfills the pattern of divine wrath foretold against God’s enemies. Jos 10:11 As they fled before Israel along the descent… And men cursed God for the plague of hail, because it was so horrendous. Rather than repent, those under judgment openly blaspheme God. Their response reveals hearts hardened by persistent rebellion, like Pharaoh’s during the plagues of Egypt. Even amid unmistakable displays of God’s power, they reject His authority, confirming the justice of the judgment they receive. Job 2:9-10 Then Job’s wife said to him, “Do you still retain… This is a draft of the Berean Study Bible. Please send all comments and recommendations to bereanstudybible@aol.com. Bible Hub |
