Πρεσβυτέρῳ

νεωτέρους
ὡς
ἀδελφούς
Do not
rebuke
an older man,
but
appeal to him
as to
a father.
Treat younger men
as
brothers,
Rebuke
not
an elder,
but
intreat
[him] as
a father;
[and] the younger men
as
brethren;
2
πρεσβυτέρας

older women
as
mothers,
and younger women
as
sisters,
with
absolute
purity.
The elder women
as
mothers;
the younger
as
sisters,
with
all
purity.
3

Honor
the widows
who are
truly
widows.
Honour
widows
that are widows
indeed.

ἐνώπιον
τοῦ
Θεοῦ
But
if
a
widow
has
children
or
grandchildren,
they must first learn
to show godliness
to their
own
family
and
repay
their
parents,
for
this
is
pleasing
in the sight of
God.
But
if any
widow
have
children
or
nephews,
let them learn
first
to shew piety
at home,
and
to requite
their parents:
for
that
is
good
and
acceptable
before
God.

The widow who is
truly
in need
and
left all alone
puts her hope
in
God
and
continues
night
and
day
in her
petitions
and
prayers.
Now
she that is a widow
indeed,
and
desolate,
trusteth
in
God,
and
continueth
in supplications
and
prayers
night
and
day.
6
ἡ

But
she who
lives for pleasure
is dead
even while she is still alive.
But
she that liveth in pleasure
is dead
while she liveth.
7
Καὶ
ταῦτα
παράγγελλε
ἵνα
ἀνεπίλημπτοι

Give these instructions to the believers,
so that
they will be
above reproach.
And
these things
give in charge,
that
they may be
blameless.
8

If
anyone
does not provide for
his
own,
and
especially his own
household,
he has denied
the
faith
and
is
worse than
an unbeliever.
But
if any
provide
not
for his own,
and
specially
for those of his own house,
he hath denied
the faith,
and
is
worse than
an infidel.
9
Χήρα

A widow
should be enrolled
if she is
at least
sixty
years old,
the wife
of one
man,
Let
not
a widow
be taken into the number
under
threescore
years old,
having been
the wife
of one
man,
10

for
good
deeds
such as
bringing up children,
entertaining strangers,
washing
the feet
of the saints,
imparting relief
to the afflicted,
and
devoting herself to
every
good
work.
Well reported of
for
good
works;
if
she have brought up
children, if
she have lodged strangers,
if
she have washed
the saints'
feet,
if
she have relieved
the afflicted,
if
she have diligently followed
every
good
work.
11
Νεωτέρας

παραιτοῦ
ὅταν

But
refuse to enroll
younger
widows.
For
when
their passions draw them away
from Christ,
they will want
to marry,
But
the younger
widows
refuse:
for
when
they have begun to wax wanton against
Christ,
they will
marry;
12
ἔχουσαι

and thus will incur
judgment
because
they are setting aside
their
first
faith.
Having
damnation,
because
they have cast off
their first
faith.

οὐ

At the same time
they will also learn
to be idle,
going from
house to house
and being
not
only
idle,
but
also
gossips
and
busybodies,
discussing
things
they should
not mention.
And
withal
they learn
[to be] idle,
wandering about
from house to house;
and
not
only
idle,
but
tattlers
also
and
busybodies,
speaking
things which
they ought
not.
14

So
I advise
the younger widows
to marry,
have children,
and manage their households,
denying
the
adversary
occasion
for
slander.
I will
therefore
that the younger women
marry,
bear children,
guide the house,
give
none
occasion
to the adversary
to
speak reproachfully.

For
some

to follow
Satan.
For
some

already
turned aside
after
Satan.

If
any
believing woman
has
dependent widows,
she must assist
them
and
not
allow the
church
to be burdened,
so that
it can help
the
widows who are
truly in need.
If any
man
or
woman that believeth
have
widows,
let them relieve
them,
and
let
not
the church
be charged;
that
it may relieve
them that are widows
indeed.

Elders

are worthy

especially
those who

Let
the elders
that rule
well
be counted worthy
of double
honour,
especially
they who labour
in
the word

doctrine.

For
the
Scripture
says,
“
Do not muzzle
an ox
while it is treading out the grain,”
and,
“The
worker
is worthy
of
his
wages.”
For
the scripture
saith,
Thou shalt
not
muzzle
the ox
that treadeth out the corn.
And,
The labourer
[is] worthy
of his
reward.

those who

I charge

doing

The

they that are
otherwise
