The Ephod
(Exodus 28:6–14)

1 וּמִן־ (And from) הַתְּכֵ֤לֶת (the blue), וְהָֽאַרְגָּמָן֙ (and the purple), וְתוֹלַ֣עַת (and the yarn) הַשָּׁנִ֔י (scarlet), עָשׂ֥וּ (they made) בִגְדֵי־ (garments) שְׂרָ֖ד (woven), לְשָׁרֵ֣ת (for ministering) בַּקֹּ֑דֶשׁ (in the Holy Place) וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֞וּ (and made) אֶת־ (-) בִּגְדֵ֤י (the garments) הַקֹּ֙דֶשׁ֙ (holy) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that) לְאַהֲרֹ֔ן (were for Aaron), כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃פ (Moses).

2 וַיַּ֖עַשׂ (And He made) אֶת־ (-) הָאֵפֹ֑ד (the ephod) זָהָ֗ב (of gold), תְּכֵ֧לֶת (blue), וְאַרְגָּמָ֛ן (and purple), וְתוֹלַ֥עַת (and yarn) שָׁנִ֖י (scarlet), וְשֵׁ֥שׁ (and linen) מָשְׁזָֽר׃ (finely woven). 3 וַֽיְרַקְּע֞וּ (And they beat) אֶת־ (into) פַּחֵ֣י (plates) הַזָּהָב֮ (the gold), וְקִצֵּ֣ץ (and they cut) פְּתִילִם֒ (threads) לַעֲשׂ֗וֹת (to work), בְּת֤וֹךְ (in the midst) הַתְּכֵ֙לֶת֙ (of the blue), וּבְת֣וֹךְ (and in the midst) הָֽאַרְגָּמָ֔ן (of the purple), וּבְת֛וֹךְ (and in the midst) תּוֹלַ֥עַת (of the yarn) הַשָּׁנִ֖י (scarlet), וּבְת֣וֹךְ (and in the midst) הַשֵּׁ֑שׁ (of the fine linen), מַעֲשֵׂ֖ה (the work) חֹשֵֽׁב׃ (of a designer). 4 כְּתֵפֹ֥ת (Shoulder straps) עָֽשׂוּ־ (they made) ל֖וֹ (for it) חֹבְרֹ֑ת (to join it together); עַל־ (at) שְׁנֵ֥י (two) קִצְווֹתוֹ (its ends) חֻבָּֽר׃ (it was joined together). 5 וְחֵ֨שֶׁב (And the skillfully woven waistband) אֲפֻדָּת֜וֹ (of his ephod) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (that was) עָלָ֗יו (on it) מִמֶּ֣נּוּ (from it) הוּא֮ (it was) כְּמַעֲשֵׂהוּ֒ (according to its work), זָהָ֗ב (gold), תְּכֵ֧לֶת (blue), וְאַרְגָּמָ֛ן (and purple), וְתוֹלַ֥עַת (and yarn) שָׁנִ֖י (scarlet), וְשֵׁ֣שׁ (and linen) מָשְׁזָ֑ר (finely woven), כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (Moses).

6 וַֽיַּעֲשׂוּ֙ (And they set) אֶת־ (-) אַבְנֵ֣י (the stones) הַשֹּׁ֔הַם (onyx), מֻֽסַבֹּ֖ת (enclosed) מִשְׁבְּצֹ֣ת (in settings) זָהָ֑ב (of gold); מְפֻתָּחֹת֙ (they were engraved) פִּתּוּחֵ֣י (with engravings) חוֹתָ֔ם (of a signet), עַל־ (with) שְׁמ֖וֹת (the names) בְּנֵ֥י (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ (of Israel). 7 וַיָּ֣שֶׂם (And He put) אֹתָ֗ם (them) עַ֚ל (on) כִּתְפֹ֣ת (the shoulders) הָאֵפֹ֔ד (of the ephod)— אַבְנֵ֥י (stones) זִכָּר֖וֹן (as memorial) לִבְנֵ֣י (for the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל (of Israel), כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃פ (Moses).

The Breastpiece
(Exodus 28:15–30)

8 וַיַּ֧עַשׂ (And he made) אֶת־ (-) הַחֹ֛שֶׁן (the breastplate) מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה (the work) חֹשֵׁ֖ב (of a designer), כְּמַעֲשֵׂ֣ה (according to the workmanship) אֵפֹ֑ד (of the ephod), זָהָ֗ב (of gold), תְּכֵ֧לֶת (blue), וְאַרְגָּמָ֛ן (and purple), וְתוֹלַ֥עַת (and yarn) שָׁנִ֖י (scarlet), וְשֵׁ֥שׁ (and linen) מָשְׁזָֽר׃ (finely woven). 9 רָב֧וּעַ (Square) הָיָ֛ה (it was) כָּפ֖וּל (doubled) עָשׂ֣וּ (they made) אֶת־ (-) הַחֹ֑שֶׁן (the breastplate), זֶ֧רֶת (a span) אָרְכּ֛וֹ (its length) וְזֶ֥רֶת (and a span) רָחְבּ֖וֹ (its width), כָּפֽוּל׃ (doubled).

10 וַיְמַלְאוּ־ (And they filled) ב֔וֹ (in it) אַרְבָּעָ֖ה (four) ט֣וּרֵי (rows) אָ֑בֶן (of stones):

ט֗וּר (A row) אֹ֤דֶם (of ruby), פִּטְדָה֙ (topaz), וּבָרֶ֔קֶת (and emerald) הַטּ֖וּר (was the row) הָאֶחָֽד׃ (the first).

11 וְהַטּ֖וּר (And the row) הַשֵּׁנִ֑י (the second): נֹ֥פֶךְ (Was turquoise), סַפִּ֖יר (sapphire), וְיָהֲלֹֽם׃ (and diamond).

12 וְהַטּ֖וּר (And the row) הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֑י (the third): לֶ֥שֶׁם (Was jacinth), שְׁב֖וֹ (agate), וְאַחְלָֽמָה׃ (and amethyst).

13 וְהַטּוּר֙ (And the row) הָֽרְבִיעִ֔י (fourth): תַּרְשִׁ֥ישׁ (Was beryl), שֹׁ֖הַם (onyx), וְיָשְׁפֵ֑ה (and jasper).

מֽוּסַבֹּ֛ת (They were enclosed in) מִשְׁבְּצ֥וֹת (settings) זָהָ֖ב (of gold) בְּמִלֻּאֹתָֽם׃ (in their fillings).

14 וְ֠הָאֲבָנִים (And the stones) עַל־ (according to) שְׁמֹ֨ת (the names) בְּנֵי־ (of the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֥ל (of Israel), הֵ֛נָּה (they were) שְׁתֵּ֥ים (two) עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה (and ten), עַל־ (according to) שְׁמֹתָ֑ם (their names), פִּתּוּחֵ֤י (the engravings) חֹתָם֙ (of a signet), אִ֣ישׁ (each one) עַל־ (according to) שְׁמ֔וֹ (his name), לִשְׁנֵ֥ים (for the two) עָשָׂ֖ר (and ten) שָֽׁבֶט׃ (tribes).

15 וַיַּעֲשׂ֧וּ (And they made) עַל־ (on) הַחֹ֛שֶׁן (the breastplate) שַׁרְשְׁרֹ֥ת (chains) גַּבְלֻ֖ת (of braided), מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה (work) עֲבֹ֑ת (cords) זָהָ֖ב (gold) טָהֽוֹר׃ (pure). 16 וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֗וּ (And they made) שְׁתֵּי֙ (two) מִשְׁבְּצֹ֣ת (settings) זָהָ֔ב (of gold), וּשְׁתֵּ֖י (and two) טַבְּעֹ֣ת (rings) זָהָ֑ב (gold), וַֽיִּתְּנ֗וּ (and put) אֶת־ (-) שְׁתֵּי֙ (the two) הַטַּבָּעֹ֔ת (rings) עַל־ (on) שְׁנֵ֖י (the two) קְצ֥וֹת (ends) הַחֹֽשֶׁן׃ (of the breastplate). 17 וַֽיִּתְּנ֗וּ (And they put) שְׁתֵּי֙ (the two) הָעֲבֹתֹ֣ת (the cords) הַזָּהָ֔ב (of the gold) עַל־ (on) שְׁתֵּ֖י (the two) הַטַּבָּעֹ֑ת (rings), עַל־ (on) קְצ֖וֹת (the ends) הַחֹֽשֶׁן׃ (of the breastplate). 18 וְאֵ֨ת (And) שְׁתֵּ֤י (the two) קְצוֹת֙ (ends) שְׁתֵּ֣י (of the two) הָֽעֲבֹתֹ֔ת (cords) נָתְנ֖וּ (they put) עַל־ (on) שְׁתֵּ֣י (the two) הַֽמִּשְׁבְּצֹ֑ת (settings), וַֽיִּתְּנֻ֛ם (and they put them) עַל־ (on) כִּתְפֹ֥ת (the shoulder straps) הָאֵפֹ֖ד (of the ephod), אֶל־ (toward) מ֥וּל (the front) פָּנָֽיו׃ (of its face).

19 וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֗וּ (And they made) שְׁתֵּי֙ (two) טַבְּעֹ֣ת (rings) זָהָ֔ב (of gold), וַיָּשִׂ֕ימוּ (and put them) עַל־ (on) שְׁנֵ֖י (the two) קְצ֣וֹת (ends) הַחֹ֑שֶׁן (of the breastplate), עַל־ (on) שְׂפָת֕וֹ (its edge) אֲשֶׁ֛ר (that was) אֶל־ (toward) עֵ֥בֶר (the side) הָאֵפֹ֖ד (of the ephod) בָּֽיְתָה׃ (inwardly).

20 וַֽיַּעֲשׂוּ֮ (And they made) שְׁתֵּ֣י (two) טַבְּעֹ֣ת (rings) זָהָב֒ (of gold), וַֽיִּתְּנֻ֡ם (and they put them) עַל־ (on) שְׁתֵּי֩ (the two) כִתְפֹ֨ת (shoulders) הָאֵפֹ֤ד (of the ephod) מִלְמַ֙טָּה֙ (from below), מִמּ֣וּל (toward) פָּנָ֔יו (its face) לְעֻמַּ֖ת (right at) מֶחְבַּרְתּ֑וֹ (the seam) מִמַּ֕עַל (above) לְחֵ֖שֶׁב (the skillfully woven waistband) הָאֵפֹֽד׃ (of the ephod). 21 וַיִּרְכְּס֣וּ (And they bound) אֶת־ (-) הַחֹ֡שֶׁן (the breastplate) מִטַּבְּעֹתָיו֩ (by its rings) אֶל־ (to) טַבְּעֹ֨ת (the rings) הָאֵפֹ֜ד (of the ephod) בִּפְתִ֣יל (with a cord) תְּכֵ֗לֶת (blue), לִֽהְיֹת֙ (to be) עַל־ (on) חֵ֣שֶׁב (the skillfully woven waistband) הָאֵפֹ֔ד (of the ephod), וְלֹֽא־ (and not) יִזַּ֣ח (would come loose) הַחֹ֔שֶׁן (the breastplate) מֵעַ֖ל (from on) הָאֵפֹ֑ד (the ephod), כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ (Moses).

Additional Priestly Garments
(Exodus 28:31–43)

22 וַיַּ֛עַשׂ (And He made) אֶת־ (-) מְעִ֥יל (the robe) הָאֵפֹ֖ד (of the ephod) מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה (the work) אֹרֵ֑ג (of a weaver), כְּלִ֖יל (entirely) תְּכֵֽלֶת׃ (of blue), 23 וּפִֽי־ (and there was an opening) הַמְּעִ֥יל (the robe) בְּתוֹכ֖וֹ (in the middle), כְּפִ֣י (of like the opening in) תַחְרָ֑א (a corselet), שָׂפָ֥ה (an edge) לְפִ֛יו (for its opening) סָבִ֖יב (all around), לֹ֥א (not) יִקָּרֵֽעַ׃ (so it would tear).

24 וַֽיַּעֲשׂוּ֙ (And they made) עַל־ (upon) שׁוּלֵ֣י (the hem) הַמְּעִ֔יל (of the robe) רִמּוֹנֵ֕י (pomegranates) תְּכֵ֥לֶת (of blue), וְאַרְגָּמָ֖ן (and purple), וְתוֹלַ֣עַת (and) שָׁנִ֑י (scarlet), מָשְׁזָֽר׃ (and finely woven linen). 25 וַיַּעֲשׂ֥וּ (And they made) פַעֲמֹנֵ֖י (bells) זָהָ֣ב (of gold) טָה֑וֹר (pure), וַיִּתְּנ֨וּ (and they put) אֶת־ (-) הַפַּֽעֲמֹנִ֜ים (the bells) בְּת֣וֹךְ (in the midst) הָרִמֹּנִ֗ים (of the pomegranates) עַל־ (on) שׁוּלֵ֤י (the hem) הַמְּעִיל֙ (of the robe) סָבִ֔יב (all around), בְּת֖וֹךְ (in the midst) הָרִמֹּנִֽים׃ (of the pomegranates), 26 פַּעֲמֹ֤ן (a bell) וְרִמֹּן֙ (and a pomegranate), פַּעֲמֹ֣ן (a bell) וְרִמֹּ֔ן (and a pomegranate), עַל־ (on) שׁוּלֵ֥י (the hem) הַמְּעִ֖יל (of the robe) סָבִ֑יב (all around), לְשָׁרֵ֕ת (to minister) כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ס (Moses).

27 וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֛וּ (And they made) אֶת־ (-) הַכָּתְנֹ֥ת (the tunics) שֵׁ֖שׁ (of fine linen), מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה (the work) אֹרֵ֑ג (of a weaver), לְאַהֲרֹ֖ן (for Aaron) וּלְבָנָֽיו׃ (and for his sons), 28 וְאֵת֙ (and) הַמִּצְנֶ֣פֶת (the turban) שֵׁ֔שׁ (of fine linen), וְאֶת־ (and) פַּאֲרֵ֥י (ornate) הַמִּגְבָּעֹ֖ת (the headbands) שֵׁ֑שׁ (of fine linen), וְאֶת־ (and) מִכְנְסֵ֥י (the undergarments) הַבָּ֖ד (of linen), שֵׁ֥שׁ (linen) מָשְׁזָֽר׃ (finely woven), 29 וְֽאֶת־ (and) הָאַבְנֵ֞ט (a sash) שֵׁ֣שׁ (of linen) מָשְׁזָ֗ר (finely woven), וּתְכֵ֧לֶת (and blue), וְאַרְגָּמָ֛ן (and purple), וְתוֹלַ֥עַת (and yarn) שָׁנִ֖י (scarlet), מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה (the work) רֹקֵ֑ם (of a weaver), כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ס (Moses).

30 וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֛וּ (And they made) אֶת־ (-) צִ֥יץ (the plate) נֵֽזֶר־ (diadem) הַקֹּ֖דֶשׁ (the holy) זָהָ֣ב (of gold) טָה֑וֹר (pure), וַיִּכְתְּב֣וּ (and wrote) עָלָ֗יו (on it) מִכְתַּב֙ (a writing), פִּתּוּחֵ֣י (the engraving) חוֹתָ֔ם (of a signet):

קֹ֖דֶשׁ (HOLY) לַיהוָֽה׃ (TO YHWH).

31 וַיִּתְּנ֤וּ (And they put) עָלָיו֙ (on it) פְּתִ֣יל (a cord) תְּכֵ֔לֶת (blue), לָתֵ֥ת (to put it) עַל־ (on) הַמִּצְנֶ֖פֶת (the turban) מִלְמָ֑עְלָה (from above), כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶֽׁה׃ס (Moses).

Moses Approves the Work

32 וַתֵּ֕כֶל (And was finished) כָּל־ (all) עֲבֹדַ֕ת (the work) מִשְׁכַּ֖ן (of the tabernacle) אֹ֣הֶל (of the Tent) מוֹעֵ֑ד (of Meeting). וַֽיַּעֲשׂוּ֙ (And did) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel) כְּ֠כֹל (according to all) אֲשֶׁ֨ר (that) צִוָּ֧ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֛ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶׁ֖ה (Moses)— כֵּ֥ן (so) עָשֽׂוּ׃פ (they did).

33 וַיָּבִ֤יאוּ (And they brought) אֶת־ (-) הַמִּשְׁכָּן֙ (the tabernacle) אֶל־ (to) מֹשֶׁ֔ה (Moses) אֶת־ (-)—

הָאֹ֖הֶל (the tent), וְאֶת־ (and) כָּל־ (all) כֵּלָ֑יו (its vessels), קְרָסָ֣יו (its clasps), קְרָשָׁ֔יו (its boards), בְּרִיחוֹ (its bars), וְעַמֻּדָ֥יו (and its pillars), וַאֲדָנָֽיו׃ (and its bases);

34 וְאֶת־ (and) מִכְסֵ֞ה (the covering) עוֹרֹ֤ת (of skins) הָֽאֵילִם֙ (ram) הַמְאָדָּמִ֔ים (dyed red), וְאֶת־ (and) מִכְסֵ֖ה (the covering) עֹרֹ֣ת (of skins) הַתְּחָשִׁ֑ים (badger), וְאֵ֖ת (and) פָּרֹ֥כֶת (the veil) הַמָּסָֽךְ׃ (of the screen);

35 אֶת־ (-) אֲרֹ֥ן (the ark) הָעֵדֻ֖ת (of the Testimony), וְאֶת־ (and) בַּדָּ֑יו (its poles), וְאֵ֖ת (and) הַכַּפֹּֽרֶת׃ (the mercy seat);

36 אֶת־ (-) הַשֻּׁלְחָן֙ (the table), אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) כֵּלָ֔יו (its vessels), וְאֵ֖ת (and) לֶ֥חֶם (the Bread) הַפָּנִֽים׃ (of the Presence);

37 אֶת־ (-) הַמְּנֹרָ֨ה (the lampstand) הַטְּהֹרָ֜ה (pure gold) אֶת־ (-) נֵרֹתֶ֗יהָ (its lamps), נֵרֹ֛ת (lamps) הַמַּֽעֲרָכָ֖ה (set in order), וְאֶת־ (and) כָּל־ (all) כֵּלֶ֑יהָ (its vessels), וְאֵ֖ת (and) שֶׁ֥מֶן (the oil) הַמָּאֽוֹר׃ (for the light),

38 וְאֵת֙ (and) מִזְבַּ֣ח (the altar) הַזָּהָ֔ב (of gold), וְאֵת֙ (and) שֶׁ֣מֶן (the oil) הַמִּשְׁחָ֔ה (of anointing), וְאֵ֖ת (and) קְטֹ֣רֶת (incense) הַסַּמִּ֑ים (of the spices), וְאֵ֕ת (and) מָסַ֖ךְ (the screen) פֶּ֥תַח (of the door), הָאֹֽהֶל׃ (of the tent);

39 אֵ֣ת׀ (-) מִזְבַּ֣ח (the altar) הַנְּחֹ֗שֶׁת (bronze) וְאֶת־ (and) מִכְבַּ֤ר (the grate) הַנְּחֹ֙שֶׁת֙ (of bronze) אֲשֶׁר־ (that is), ל֔וֹ (for it) אֶת־ (-) בַּדָּ֖יו (its poles), וְאֶת־ (and) כָּל־ (all) כֵּלָ֑יו (its vessels);

אֶת־ (-) הַכִּיֹּ֖ר (the basin) וְאֶת־ (and with) כַּנּֽוֹ׃ (its stand);

40 אֵת֩ (-) קַלְעֵ֨י (the hangings) הֶחָצֵ֜ר (of the court), אֶת־ (-) עַמֻּדֶ֣יהָ (its pillars), וְאֶת־ (and) אֲדָנֶ֗יהָ (its bases),

וְאֶת־ (and) הַמָּסָךְ֙ (the screen) לְשַׁ֣עַר (for gate) הֶֽחָצֵ֔ר (of the court) אֶת־ (-), מֵיתָרָ֖יו (its cords), וִיתֵדֹתֶ֑יהָ (and its pegs), וְאֵ֗ת (and) כָּל־ (all) כְּלֵ֛י (the vessels) עֲבֹדַ֥ת (of the service) הַמִּשְׁכָּ֖ן (of the tabernacle), לְאֹ֥הֶל (for the Tent) מוֹעֵֽד׃ (of Meeting);

41 אֶת־ (-) בִּגְדֵ֥י (the garments) הַשְּׂרָ֖ד (woven) לְשָׁרֵ֣ת (for ministering) בַּקֹּ֑דֶשׁ (in the Holy Place) אֶת־ (-), בִּגְדֵ֤י (the garments) הַקֹּ֙דֶשׁ֙ (holy) לְאַהֲרֹ֣ן (for Aaron) הַכֹּהֵ֔ן (the priest), וְאֶת־ (and) בִּגְדֵ֥י (the garments) בָנָ֖יו (for his sons) לְכַהֵֽן׃ (to minister as priests).

42 כְּכֹ֛ל (According to all) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH) אֶת־ (-) מֹשֶׁ֑ה (Moses), כֵּ֤ן (so) עָשׂוּ֙ (did) בְּנֵ֣י (the sons) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel) אֵ֖ת (-) כָּל־ (all) הָעֲבֹדָֽה׃ (the work). 43 וַיַּ֨רְא (And looked over) מֹשֶׁ֜ה (Moses) אֶת־ (-) כָּל־ (all) הַמְּלָאכָ֗ה (the work), וְהִנֵּה֙ (and behold), עָשׂ֣וּ (they had done) אֹתָ֔הּ (it) כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) צִוָּ֥ה (had commanded) יְהוָ֖ה (YHWH). כֵּ֣ן (So) עָשׂ֑וּ (they had done). וַיְבָ֥רֶךְ (And blessed) אֹתָ֖ם (them) מֹשֶֽׁה׃פ (Moses).
