Berean Study Bible Salvation ConfirmedSince Christ is God’s supreme revelation and exalted above the angels, believers are accountable to receive His message with steady care. 2Pe 1:19 We also have the word of the prophets… therefore, “Therefore” draws the conclusion from the preceding declaration of Christ’s greatness. 2Pe 1:10 Therefore, brothers, strive to make your calling and election sure.… to what we have heard, “To what we have heard” refers to the gospel proclaimed by Christ and confirmed by His apostles: His death, resurrection, and saving work. 1Jn 1:1-3 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard,… so that we do not drift away. Neglect does not usually begin with open rejection but with gradual inattention, leaving a person carried from the truth and security found in Christ. 2Pe 3:17 Therefore, beloved, since you already know these things… For if the message spoken by angels was binding, Jewish tradition held that God gave the Law to Moses through angels, emphasizing its heavenly origin and unquestioned authority. Israel was responsible to obey the commands given at Sinai. Act 7:53 you who received the law ordained by angels,… and every transgression and disobedience received its just punishment, Violations of the Law brought penalties proportionate to the offense, whether through civil judgment, exclusion from the community, or divine discipline. Israel’s history demonstrated that rebellion against God’s commands carried real consequences. 2Th 1:6-8 After all, it is only right for God to repay with affliction… how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? Deliberately disregarding God’s salvation leaves no refuge from His judgment. Salvation through Christ delivers sinners from condemnation, the power of sin, and its final consequences. Israel’s history demonstrated the seriousness of neglecting God’s revealed will; the greater revelation given in His Son carries an even greater accountability. Heb 12:25 See to it that you do not refuse Him who speaks… This salvation was first announced by the Lord, Jesus proclaimed the arrival of God’s kingdom and called people to repent and believe. His ministry, death, and resurrection fulfilled God’s promises of redemption and established Him as the divine source of salvation. Luk 4:18-21 The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me.… was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, The apostles and other early witnesses received Jesus’ teaching directly and testified to His works, death, and resurrection. Their eyewitness testimony preserved and proclaimed the message entrusted to the church. 1Jn 1:1-3 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard,… and was affirmed by God God Himself confirmed the salvation first proclaimed by the Lord, establishing the gospel as His authoritative revelation. Throughout Scripture, He authenticated His covenant promises and redemptive acts by visible displays of His power, affirming His word through supernatural means. Act 2:22 Men of Israel, listen to this message: Jesus of Nazareth… through signs, Signs, miraculous events that point to a deeper spiritual truth, pointed beyond the event itself to God’s purpose and presence, as Jesus’ works revealed His identity and the arrival of God’s kingdom. Act 4:30 As You stretch out Your hand to heal and perform signs… wonders, Wonders stirred awe in those who witnessed them, displaying God’s power over creation, disease, evil spirits, and death. Act 7:36 He led them out and performed wonders and signs… various miracles, The miraculous works accompanying the apostolic message confirmed that the risen Christ was at work through His appointed witnesses. Healings, deliverance, and other acts of power testified to the truth of their proclamation. Act 19:11 God did extraordinary miracles through the hands of Paul, and gifts of the Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit also equipped believers with spiritual gifts for the building up of the church and the spread of the gospel. 1Co 12:4-11 There are different gifts, but the same Spirit.… distributed according to His will. God sovereignly determines the gifts and ministries given to each believer, supplying what His people need for their shared mission. 1Co 12:11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit…
Jesus like His BrothersAngels serve God as His messengers and ministers, but they were not appointed to rule the coming order. Heb 1:13 Yet to which of the angels did God ever say:… that He has subjected God has placed the future world under the authority He has determined, according to His sovereign purpose. Psa 8:6 You made him ruler of the works of Your hands;… the world to come, This is the coming age of restored creation and Christ’s reign, when God’s purposes for humanity will be fully realized. Heb 6:5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God… about which we are speaking. The discussion concerns Christ’s supremacy over angels and His fulfillment of mankind’s intended dominion through His suffering, exaltation, and reign. Act 3:21 Heaven must take Him in until the time comes… But somewhere it is testified in these words: Hebrews introduces Psalm 8 as God’s authoritative testimony, drawing attention to humanity’s place in His created order and to its ultimate fulfillment in Christ. Psa 8:4 what is man that You are mindful of him?… “What is man that You are mindful of him, Human beings are small and frail before the majesty of God’s creation, yet God has deliberately remembered them, granting them dignity as His image-bearers. Psa 144:3 O LORD, what is man, that You regard him… or the son of man that You care for him? God’s care extends beyond sustaining humanity to accomplishing redemption through Jesus Christ, the Son of Man, who took on human nature and fulfilled God’s purpose for mankind. Psa 80:17 Let Your hand be upon the man at Your right hand… You made him a little lower than the angels; Jesus willingly took on true humanity, accepting the limitations and suffering of human life. Though eternally divine, He entered the created order and endured death in order to represent mankind and accomplish redemption. Psa 8:5 You made him a little lower than the angels;… You crowned him with glory and honor Following His suffering, resurrection, and ascension, the Father exalted the Son to His rightful place of authority. His glory and honor proclaim His victory over sin and death and establish His reign as the risen Messiah. Psa 21:5 Great is his glory in Your salvation; … and placed everything under his feet.” God appointed humanity to rule over the created order, a purpose fulfilled perfectly in Jesus Christ. His exaltation establishes His authority over all creation and every opposing power. Psa 8:6 You made him ruler of the works of Your hands;… When God subjected all things to him, God’s purpose leaves no part of creation outside the rule entrusted to Christ, the Son of Man and heir of all things. Psa 110:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD said to my Lord:… He left nothing outside of his control. Christ’s dominion is complete, extending over the visible world and the unseen spiritual realm. Mat 11:27 All things have been entrusted to Me by My Father.… Yet at present we do not see everything subject to him. Sin, death, and rebellion remain active in the world, though they do not overturn God’s decree. The full display of Christ’s reign awaits the completion of His redemptive work. Rom 8:20-22 For the creation was subjected to futility,… But we see Jesus, “But we see Jesus” shifts attention to the Son of God, who stands at the center of God’s redemptive plan. Although humanity’s intended dominion has not yet been fully realized, Jesus fulfills God’s purpose for humanity and brings it to completion. Heb 12:2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author… who was made a little lower than the angels, He willingly took on true human nature in the incarnation. For a time, He entered the condition of human weakness, suffering, and mortality. Psa 8:5 You made him a little lower than the angels;… now crowned with glory and honor Having risen from the dead and ascended to heaven, He reigns in the exalted position that belongs to Him. His glory confirms His victory and authority over all creation. Php 2:9-11 Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place… because He suffered death, His exaltation followed His willing obedience unto death. He bore the consequences of sin though He Himself was without sin. Isa 53:10-12 Yet it was the LORD’s will to crush Him… so that by the grace of God Salvation originates in God’s merciful purpose, not in human merit. God provided the sacrifice humanity could not provide for itself. Eph 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved through faith… He might taste death for everyone. Jesus truly experienced death fully and completely as the representative and substitute for sinners. His sacrifice is sufficient for all and is the basis on which salvation is offered to the world. 1Ti 2:6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all—the testimony… In bringing many sons to glory, God’s purpose is to bring believers, adopted into His family through faith, into the fullness of salvation, resurrection life, and eternal fellowship with Him. Rom 8:29-30 For those God foreknew, He also predestined… it was fitting for God, The salvation accomplished through Christ’s suffering fully accords with God’s righteous, holy, and loving purpose. Deu 32:4 He is the Rock, His work is perfect; all His ways are just.… for whom and through whom all things exist, God is the Creator, Sustainer, and ultimate end of all things; redemption serves His sovereign plan and glory. Rom 11:36 For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things.… to make the author of their salvation Jesus is the leader and forerunner of salvation, opening the way into God’s promised inheritance for those who belong to Him. Heb 12:2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author… perfect through suffering. Christ was not made morally perfect, for He was sinless. His suffering completed His appointed work as the Savior who, through death, brings His people to glory. Heb 5:8-9 Although He was a Son, He learned obedience… For both the One who sanctifies Jesus sanctifies His people, making them holy and set apart for God’s purposes, through His sinless life and sacrificial death. Heb 13:12 And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate… and those who are sanctified Believers are made holy through Christ and continue to be conformed to God’s will. 1Co 6:11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed,… are of the same family. Christ and His redeemed people share one Father. Through faith, believers are adopted into God’s household. Mal 2:10 Do we not all have one Father? Did not one God create us?… So Jesus is not ashamed Though He is exalted above all, Jesus willingly identifies with those He has saved. Heb 11:16 Instead, they were longing for a better country,… to call them brothers. By taking on human nature and suffering on behalf of His people, Christ became their true brother and representative. Psa 22:22 I will proclaim Your name to my brothers;… He says: Jesus Christ is the speaker, identifying Himself with those He came to save. Though exalted above all, He willingly shares their humanity and calls them His brothers. Heb 10:5 Therefore, when Christ came into the world, He said:… “I will proclaim Your name to My brothers; Having completed His saving work, Christ reveals the Father to His people and gathers them into the family of God. Psa 22:22 I will proclaim Your name to my brothers;… I will sing Your praises in the assembly.” Christ stands among His redeemed people as they worship God. The assembly points to the gathered church, where His victory over sin and death is celebrated in praise. Psa 149:1 Hallelujah! Sing to the LORD a new song—… And again: “I will put My trust in Him.” The Son willingly shared the conditions of human life, living in faithful dependence on the Father. Though fully divine, Jesus trusted God in suffering and obedience, fulfilling the righteous confidence anticipated in Isaiah’s words. Isa 8:17 I will wait for the LORD, who is hiding His face… And once again: “Here am I, and the children God has given Me.” Jesus stands before God with those the Father has given Him—His redeemed people. As Isaiah and his children were signs to Israel, Christ and His people testify to God’s saving purpose. The Son is not ashamed to identify with those He has rescued, receiving them as His own family. Isa 8:18 Here am I, and the children the LORD has given me… Now since the children have flesh and blood, God’s children share the mortal human condition, marked by weakness, suffering, and death. 1Co 15:50 Now I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood… He too shared in their humanity, The eternal Son truly became man, taking a real human body and nature without ceasing to be God. He entered fully into the condition of those He came to save. Jhn 1:14 The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.… so that by His death Christ’s death was the purpose of His coming. As the sinless sacrifice, He bore the penalty of sin and accomplished the redemption that human beings could not achieve. Rom 5:10 For if, when we were enemies of God, we were reconciled… He might destroy him who holds the power of death, Through His death and resurrection, Christ broke the devil’s claim over those enslaved by sin and condemned to death. Satan remains active, but his ultimate defeat is certain and his power over believers has been broken. 1Jn 3:8 The one who practices sin is of the devil,… that is, the devil, The devil first brought temptation and sin into human experience and continues to oppose God’s purposes. Christ’s victory fulfills God’s promise that the serpent would be crushed by the offspring of the woman. Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity between you and the woman,… and free those Christ delivers believers from the spiritual captivity brought by sin, Satan, and death. His atoning death and victorious resurrection accomplish the liberation humanity could not secure for itself. Luk 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is on Me, because He has anointed Me.… who all their lives Apart from Christ, people live under the continuing effects of the fall. Sin and mortality shape human life from its beginning, leaving no one untouched by the condition Adam’s disobedience brought into the world. Luk 1:74-75 deliverance from hostile hands, that we may serve Him… were held in slavery The bondage is real though spiritual. As Israel once suffered under Pharaoh, mankind is bound by sin’s power and condemned under its penalty until redeemed by Christ. Jhn 8:34-36 Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you,… by their fear of death. Death stands as the consequence of sin and the judgment all people face. Through His death, Jesus broke the devil’s claim over those enslaved by that fear and gives His people confidence that death leads not to condemnation but to resurrection and eternal life. Rom 8:15 For you did not receive a spirit of slavery… For surely Christ’s purpose in taking on human nature is certain and deliberate. His mission centers on those fallen into sin and death, whom He came to deliver. Heb 6:17-18 So when God wanted to make the unchanging nature… it is not the angels He helps, Angels serve God and carry out His will, but they are not the objects of Christ’s redeeming work. He did not become an angel or provide atonement for fallen angels. Heb 1:14 Are not the angels ministering spirits sent to serve… but the descendants of Abraham. Christ came to save the people of faith who belong to Abraham’s spiritual family. God’s promise to bless the nations through Abraham finds its fulfillment in those who trust God’s provision through Christ. Isa 41:8-9 But you, O Israel, My servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen,… For this reason He had to be made like His brothers in every way, Jesus fully assumed human nature, sharing the realities of human life while remaining without sin. His incarnation qualified Him to stand as humanity’s representative and substitute. Heb 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize… so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, Unlike the Old Testament priests who offered sacrifices for others, Jesus entered God’s presence as the perfect High Priest. Having lived among humanity, He ministers with compassion; having perfectly obeyed the Father, He is faithful in every part of His priestly work. Heb 5:1-3 Every high priest is appointed from among men… in order to make atonement for the sins of the people. His death fulfilled what the sacrifices under the law foreshadowed. By offering Himself, Jesus dealt fully with sin, reconciling His people to God and securing forgiveness through a sacrifice that never needs to be repeated. Lev 16:30-34 because on this day atonement will be made… Because He Himself suffered when He was tempted, Jesus entered fully into human weakness without yielding to sin. In the wilderness He faced Satan’s direct assaults after forty days of fasting, enduring real physical hardship and the pressure to abandon the Father’s will. His temptations were genuine, yet He remained obedient, qualifying Him as the sinless High Priest who understands the trials His people face. Heb 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize… He is able to help those who are being tempted. Having overcome temptation, Jesus gives timely aid to believers in their struggles. He does not stand distant from human suffering but intercedes for His people and supplies strength to resist sin and remain faithful.
