1
[As a]
prisoner
in
[the] Lord,
then,
I
urge
you
to walk
in a manner worthy
of the
calling
you have received:
1
Παρακαλῶ
οὖν
ὑμᾶς
ἐγὼ
ὁ
δέσμιος
ἐν
Κυρίῳ
ἀξίως
περιπατῆσαι
τῆς
κλήσεως
ἧς
ἐκλήθητε
2
with
all
humility
and
gentleness,
with
patience,
bearing with
one another
in
love,
2
μετὰ
πάσης
ταπεινοφροσύνης
καὶ
πραΰτητος
μετὰ
μακροθυμίας
ἀνεχόμενοι
ἀλλήλων
ἐν
ἀγάπῃ
3
[and] with diligence
to preserve
the
unity
of the
Spirit
through
the
bond
of peace.
3
σπουδάζοντες
τηρεῖν
τὴν
ἑνότητα
τοῦ
Πνεύματος
ἐν
τῷ
συνδέσμῳ
τῆς
εἰρήνης
4
[There is] one
body
and
one
Spirit,
just as
you were called
to
one
hope
[when]
you
were called;
4
ἓν
σῶμα
καὶ
ἓν
Πνεῦμα
καθὼς
καὶ
ἐκλήθητε
ἐν
μιᾷ
ἐλπίδι
τῆς
κλήσεως
ὑμῶν
5
one
Lord,
one
faith,
one
baptism;
5
εἷς
Κύριος
μία
πίστις
ἓν
βάπτισμα
6
one
God
and
Father
of all,
who [is]
over
all
and
through
all
and
in
all.
6
εἷς
Θεὸς
καὶ
Πατὴρ
πάντων
ὁ
ἐπὶ
πάντων
καὶ
διὰ
πάντων
καὶ
ἐν
πᾶσιν
7
Now
to each
one
of us
grace
has been given
according to
the
measure
of the
gift
of Christ.
7
Ἑνὶ
δὲ
ἑκάστῳ
ἡμῶν
ἐδόθη
ἡ
χάρις
κατὰ
τὸ
μέτρον
τῆς
δωρεᾶς
τοῦ
Χριστοῦ
8
This is why
it says:
“When He ascended
on
high,
He led
captives away,
and
gave
gifts
to men.”
8
διὸ
λέγει
Ἀναβὰς
εἰς
ὕψος
ᾐχμαλώτευσεν
αἰχμαλωσίαν
(καὶ)
ἔδωκεν
δόματα
τοῖς
ἀνθρώποις
9
What
[does]
“He ascended” [mean],
except
that
He also descended
to
the
lower
parts
of the
earth?
9
Τὸ
δὲ
Ἀνέβη
τί
ἐστιν
εἰ
μὴ
ὅτι
καὶ
κατέβη
εἰς
τὰ
κατώτερα
μέρη
τῆς
γῆς
10
He who
descended
is
the very
[one]
who ascended
above
all
the
heavens,
in order
to fill
all things.
10
ὁ
καταβὰς
αὐτός
ἐστιν
καὶ
ὁ
ἀναβὰς
ὑπεράνω
πάντων
τῶν
οὐρανῶν
ἵνα
πληρώσῃ
τὰ
πάντα
11
And
[it was] He who
gave
some
[to be] apostles,
some
[to be] prophets,
some
[to be] evangelists,
and
some
[to be] pastors
and
teachers,
11
Καὶ
αὐτὸς
ἔδωκεν
τοὺς
μὲν
ἀποστόλους
τοὺς
δὲ
προφήτας
τοὺς
δὲ
εὐαγγελιστάς
τοὺς
δὲ
ποιμένας
καὶ
διδασκάλους
12
to equip
the
saints
for
works
of ministry,
to
build up
the
body
of Christ,
12
πρὸς
τὸν
καταρτισμὸν
τῶν
ἁγίων
εἰς
ἔργον
διακονίας
εἰς
οἰκοδομὴν
τοῦ
σώματος
τοῦ
Χριστοῦ
13
until
we all reach
unity
in the
faith
and
in the
knowledge
of the
Son
of God,
[as we] mature
to
the
full
measure
of [the] stature
of Christ.
13
μέχρι
καταντήσωμεν
οἱ
πάντες
εἰς
τὴν
ἑνότητα
τῆς
πίστεως
καὶ
τῆς
ἐπιγνώσεως
τοῦ
Υἱοῦ
τοῦ
Θεοῦ
εἰς
ἄνδρα
τέλειον
εἰς
μέτρον
ἡλικίας
τοῦ
πληρώματος
τοῦ
Χριστοῦ
14
Then
{we will} no longer
be
infants,
tossed about by the waves
and
carried around
by every
wind
of teaching
[and] by
the
clever
cunning
of men
in
[their]
deceitful
scheming.
14
ἵνα
μηκέτι
ὦμεν
νήπιοι
κλυδωνιζόμενοι
καὶ
περιφερόμενοι
παντὶ
ἀνέμῳ
τῆς
διδασκαλίας
ἐν
τῇ
κυβείᾳ*
τῶν
ἀνθρώπων
ἐν
πανουργίᾳ
πρὸς
τὴν
μεθοδείαν
τῆς
πλάνης
15
Instead,
speaking the truth
in
love,
{we will} in
all things
grow up
into
Christ
Himself,
who
is
the
head.
15
ἀληθεύοντες
δὲ
ἐν
ἀγάπῃ
αὐξήσωμεν
εἰς
αὐτὸν
τὰ
πάντα
ὅς
ἐστιν
ἡ
κεφαλή
Χριστός
16
From
[Him]
the
whole
body
[is] fitted
and
held together
by
every
supporting
ligament.
[And as] each
individual
part
does its work,
the
body
grows
[and] builds itself up
in
love.
16
ἐξ
οὗ
πᾶν
τὸ
σῶμα
συναρμολογούμενον
καὶ
συμβιβαζόμενον
διὰ
πάσης
ἁφῆς
τῆς
ἐπιχορηγίας
κατ’
ἐνέργειαν
ἐν
μέτρῳ
ἑνὸς
ἑκάστου
μέρους
τὴν
αὔξησιν
τοῦ
σώματος
ποιεῖται
εἰς
οἰκοδομὴν
ἑαυτοῦ
ἐν
ἀγάπῃ
17
So
I tell [you]
this,
and
testify [to it]
in
[the] Lord:
You {must}
no longer
walk
as
the
Gentiles
do,
in
[the] futility
of
their
thinking.
17
Τοῦτο
οὖν
λέγω
καὶ
μαρτύρομαι
ἐν
Κυρίῳ
μηκέτι
ὑμᾶς
περιπατεῖν
καθὼς
καὶ
τὰ
ἔθνη
περιπατεῖ
ἐν
ματαιότητι
τοῦ
νοὸς
αὐτῶν
18
They are darkened
in [their]
understanding
[and]
alienated from
the
life
of God
because of
the
ignorance
that is
in
them
due to
the
hardness
of
their
hearts.
18
ἐσκοτωμένοι
τῇ
διανοίᾳ
ὄντες
ἀπηλλοτριωμένοι
τῆς
ζωῆς
τοῦ
Θεοῦ
διὰ
τὴν
ἄγνοιαν
τὴν
οὖσαν
ἐν
αὐτοῖς
διὰ
τὴν
πώρωσιν
τῆς
καρδίας
αὐτῶν
19
Having lost all sense of shame,
[they]
have given themselves over
to
sensuality
for
[the] practice
of every kind
of impurity,
with
a craving for more.
19
οἵτινες
ἀπηλγηκότες
ἑαυτοὺς
παρέδωκαν
τῇ
ἀσελγείᾳ
εἰς
ἐργασίαν
ἀκαθαρσίας
πάσης
ἐν
πλεονεξίᾳ
20
But
this is not the way
you
came to know
Christ.
20
Ὑμεῖς
δὲ
οὐχ
οὕτως
ἐμάθετε
τὸν
Χριστόν
21
Surely
you heard of
Him
and
were taught
in
Him,
in keeping with
[the] truth
that is
in
Jesus,
21
εἴ
γε
αὐτὸν
ἠκούσατε
καὶ
ἐν
αὐτῷ
ἐδιδάχθητε
καθώς
ἐστιν
ἀλήθεια
ἐν
τῷ
Ἰησοῦ
22
to put off
your
former
way of life,
[your]
old
self,
which
is being corrupted
by
[its]
deceitful
desires;
22
ἀποθέσθαι
ὑμᾶς
κατὰ
τὴν
προτέραν
ἀναστροφὴν
τὸν
παλαιὸν
ἄνθρωπον
τὸν
φθειρόμενον
κατὰ
τὰς
ἐπιθυμίας
τῆς
ἀπάτης
23
to be renewed
in the
spirit
of
your
minds;
23
ἀνανεοῦσθαι
δὲ
τῷ
πνεύματι
τοῦ
νοὸς
ὑμῶν
24
and
to put on
the
new
self,
created
to be like
God
in
TRUE
righteousness
and
holiness.
24
καὶ
ἐνδύσασθαι
τὸν
καινὸν
ἄνθρωπον
τὸν
κατὰ
Θεὸν
κτισθέντα
ἐν
δικαιοσύνῃ
καὶ
ὁσιότητι
τῆς
ἀληθείας
25
Therefore
each [of you]
must put off
falsehood
[and] speak
truthfully
to
his
neighbor,
for
we are
members
of one another.
25
Διὸ
ἀποθέμενοι
τὸ
ψεῦδος
λαλεῖτε
ἀλήθειαν
ἕκαστος
μετὰ
τοῦ

αὐτοῦ
ὅτι

26
“Be angry,
yet
{do} not
sin.”
{Do} not {let}
the
sun
set
upon
your
anger,
26
Ὀργίζεσθε
καὶ
μὴ
ἁμαρτάνετε
ὁ
ἥλιος
μὴ
ἐπιδυέτω
ἐπὶ
[τῷ]
παροργισμῷ
ὑμῶν
27
[and] {do} not
give
the
devil
a foothold.
27
μηδὲ

τῷ
διαβόλῳ
28
He who
has been stealing
must steal
no longer,
but
must work,
doing
good
with
[his] own
hands,
that
he may have [something]
to share with
the [one]
[in]
need.
28
Ὁ
κλέπτων
μηκέτι
κλεπτέτω
μᾶλλον
δὲ
κοπιάτω
ἐργαζόμενος
ταῖς
ἰδίαις

τὸ
ἀγαθόν
ἵνα
ἔχῃ
μεταδιδόναι
τῷ
χρείαν
ἔχοντι
29
{Let} no
unwholesome
talk
come
out of
your
mouths,
but
only
what is
helpful
for
building up
the [one]
in need
[and]
bringing
grace
to those
who listen.
29
Πᾶς
λόγος
σαπρὸς
ἐκ
τοῦ
στόματος
ὑμῶν
μὴ
ἐκπορευέσθω
ἀλλὰ
εἴ
τις
ἀγαθὸς
πρὸς
οἰκοδομὴν
τῆς
χρείας
ἵνα
δῷ
χάριν
τοῖς
ἀκούουσιν
30
And
{do} not
grieve
the
Holy
Spirit
of God,
in
whom
you were sealed
for
[the] day
of redemption.
30
Καὶ
μὴ
λυπεῖτε
τὸ
Πνεῦμα
τὸ
Ἅγιον
τοῦ
Θεοῦ
ἐν
ᾧ
ἐσφραγίσθητε
εἰς
ἡμέραν
ἀπολυτρώσεως
31
Get rid of
all
bitterness,
rage
and
anger,
outcry
and
slander,
along with
every form
of malice.
31
Πᾶσα
πικρία
καὶ
θυμὸς
καὶ
ὀργὴ
καὶ
κραυγὴ
καὶ
βλασφημία
ἀρθήτω
ἀφ’
ὑμῶν
σὺν
πάσῃ
κακίᾳ
32
Be
kind
[and] tender-hearted
to
one another,
forgiving
each other
just
as
in
Christ
God
forgave
you.
32
γίνεσθε
δὲ
εἰς
ἀλλήλους
χρηστοί
εὔσπλαγχνοι
χαριζόμενοι
ἑαυτοῖς
καθὼς
καὶ
ὁ
Θεὸς
ἐν
Χριστῷ
ἐχαρίσατο
ὑμῖν
