The Two Adulterous Sisters

1  וַיְהִ֥י (And came) דְבַר־ (the word) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) אֵלַ֥י (to me) לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying), 2  בֶּן־ (Son) אָדָ֑ם (of man), שְׁתַּ֣יִם (two) נָשִׁ֔ים (women), בְּנ֥וֹת (the daughters) אֵם־ (of a mother); אַחַ֖ת (one) הָיֽוּ׃ (there were). 3  וַתִּזְנֶ֣ינָה (And they acted as prostitutes) בְמִצְרַ֔יִם (in Egypt); בִּנְעוּרֵיהֶ֖ן (in their youth); זָנ֑וּ (they were prostitutes) שָׁ֚מָּה (there) מֹעֲכ֣וּ (were squeezed), שְׁדֵיהֶ֔ן (their breasts) וְשָׁ֣ם (and there) עִשּׂ֔וּ (were pressed) דַּדֵּ֖י (the nipples) בְּתוּלֵיהֶֽן׃ (of their virginity). 4  וּשְׁמוֹתָ֗ן (And their names were) אָהֳלָ֤ה (Oholah) הַגְּדוֹלָה֙ (the elder), וְאָהֳלִיבָ֣ה (and Oholibah) אֲחוֹתָ֔הּ (her sister). וַתִּֽהְיֶ֣ינָה (And they were) לִ֔י (unto Me) וַתֵּלַ֖דְנָה (and they gave birth to) בָּנִ֣ים (sons) וּבָנ֑וֹת (and daughters). וּשְׁמוֹתָ֕ן (And their names); שֹׁמְר֣וֹן (Samaria is) אָהֳלָ֔ה (Oholah), וִירוּשָׁלִַ֖ם (and Jerusalem is) אָהֳלִיבָֽה׃ (Oholibah).

5  וַתִּ֥זֶן (And prostituted herself) אָהֳלָ֖ה (Oholah) תַּחְתָּ֑י (under Me) וַתַּעְגַּב֙ (and she lusted) עַֽל־ (over) מְאַהֲבֶ֔יהָ (her lovers), אֶל־ (toward) אַשּׁ֖וּר (Assyria) קְרוֹבִֽים׃ (warriors), 6  לְבֻשֵׁ֤י (clothed in) תְכֵ֙לֶת֙ (purple), פַּח֣וֹת (governors) וּסְגָנִ֔ים (and commanders), בַּח֥וּרֵי (young men), חֶ֖מֶד (of desire) כֻּלָּ֑ם (all of them) פָּרָשִׁ֕ים (horsemen) רֹכְבֵ֖י (riding on) סוּסִֽים׃ (horses). 7  וַתִּתֵּ֤ן (And she gave) תַּזְנוּתֶ֙יהָ֙ (her prostitutions) עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם (with them) מִבְחַ֥ר (choice) בְּנֵֽי־ (men) אַשּׁ֖וּר (of Assyria), כֻּלָּ֑ם (all of them) וּבְכֹ֧ל (and with all) אֲשֶׁר־ (for whom) עָֽגְבָ֛ה (she lusted); בְּכָל־ (with all) גִּלּוּלֵיהֶ֖ם (their idols) נִטְמָֽאָה׃ (she defiled herself).

8  וְאֶת־ (And) תַּזְנוּתֶ֤יהָ (her prostitutions) מִמִּצְרַ֙יִם֙ (from Egypt) לֹ֣א (not) עָזָ֔בָה (has she left behind) כִּ֤י (for) אוֹתָהּ֙ (with her) שָׁכְב֣וּ (they had lain) בִנְעוּרֶ֔יהָ (in her youth) וְהֵ֥מָּה (and they) עִשּׂ֖וּ (pressed) דַּדֵּ֣י (the nipples) בְתוּלֶ֑יהָ (of her virginity), וַיִּשְׁפְּכ֥וּ (and poured out) תַזְנוּתָ֖ם (their lust) עָלֶֽיהָ׃ (upon her). 9  לָכֵ֥ן (Therefore) נְתַתִּ֖יהָ (I have given her) בְּיַד־ (into the hand) מְאַֽהֲבֶ֑יהָ (of her lovers), בְּיַד֙ (into the hand) בְּנֵ֣י (of the sons) אַשּׁ֔וּר (of Assyria) אֲשֶׁ֥ר (those whom) עָגְבָ֖ה (she lusted) עֲלֵיהֶֽם׃ (for them). 10  הֵמָּה֮ (They) גִּלּ֣וּ (have uncovered) עֶרְוָתָהּ֒ (her nakedness); בָּנֶ֤יהָ (her sons) וּבְנוֹתֶ֙יהָ֙ (and daughters), לָקָ֔חוּ (they took away) וְאוֹתָ֖הּ (and her) בַּחֶ֣רֶב (with the sword). הָרָ֑גוּ (They slew) וַתְּהִי־ (and she has become) שֵׁם֙ (a byword) לַנָּשִׁ֔ים (among the women); וּשְׁפוּטִ֖ים (and judgment) עָ֥שׂוּ (they executed) בָֽהּ׃ס (against her).

11  וַתֵּ֙רֶא֙ (And saw this) אֲחוֹתָ֣הּ (her sister) אָהֳלִיבָ֔ה (Oholibah) וַתַּשְׁחֵ֥ת (and she became corrupt) עַגְבָתָ֖הּ (in her lust) מִמֶּ֑נָּה (above her) וְאֶת־ (and) תַּ֨זְנוּתֶ֔יהָ (her acts of prostitution) מִזְּנוּנֵ֖י (were more than the prostitution) אֲחוֹתָֽהּ׃ (of her sister). 12  אֶל־ (After) בְּנֵי֩ (the sons) אַשּׁ֨וּר (Assyria) עָגָ֜בָה (she lusted) פַּח֨וֹת (governors) וּסְגָנִ֤ים (and commanders) קְרֹבִים֙ (warriors), לְבֻשֵׁ֣י (clothed) מִכְל֔וֹל (in perfection), פָּרָשִׁ֖ים (horsemen) רֹכְבֵ֣י (riding on) סוּסִ֑ים (horses), בַּח֥וּרֵי (young men) חֶ֖מֶד (of desire) כֻּלָּֽם׃ (all of them). 13  וָאֵ֖רֶא (And I saw) כִּ֣י (that) נִטְמָ֑אָה (she was defiled), דֶּ֥רֶךְ (way is), אֶחָ֖ד (one) לִשְׁתֵּיהֶֽן׃ (unto the two of them).

14  וַתּ֖וֹסֶף (And she had added) אֶל־ (to) תַּזְנוּתֶ֑יהָ (her prostitutions). וַתֵּ֗רֶא (And she looked at) אַנְשֵׁי֙ (men) מְחֻקֶּ֣ה (portrayed) עַל־ (on) הַקִּ֔יר (the wall), צַלְמֵ֣י (images) כַשְׂדִּיִּים (of Chaldeans) חֲקֻקִ֖ים (portrayed) בַּשָּׁשַֽׁר׃ (in vermilion), 15  חֲגוֹרֵ֨י (girded with) אֵז֜וֹר (belts) בְּמָתְנֵיהֶ֗ם (around their loins), סְרוּחֵ֤י (flowing) טְבוּלִים֙ (turbans) בְּרָ֣אשֵׁיהֶ֔ם (on their heads), מַרְאֵ֥ה (with the appearance), שָׁלִשִׁ֖ים (of officers) כֻּלָּ֑ם (all of them) דְּמ֤וּת (in the likeness) בְּנֵֽי־ (of the sons) בָבֶל֙ (of Babylon) כַּשְׂדִּ֔ים (Chaldea), אֶ֖רֶץ (the land) מוֹלַדְתָּֽם׃ (of their origin). 16  וַתַּעְגַּב (And she lusted) עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם (for them) לְמַרְאֵ֣ה (at the seeing) עֵינֶ֑יהָ (of her eyes), וַתִּשְׁלַ֧ח (and she sent) מַלְאָכִ֛ים (messengers) אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם (to them) כַּשְׂדִּֽימָה׃ (in Chaldea). 17  וַיָּבֹ֨אוּ (And came) אֵלֶ֤יהָ (to her) בְנֵֽי־ (the sons) בָבֶל֙ (of Babylon) לְמִשְׁכַּ֣ב (into the bed) דֹּדִ֔ים (of love), וַיְטַמְּא֥וּ (and they defiled) אוֹתָ֖הּ (her) בְּתַזְנוּתָ֑ם (with their lust), וַתִּ֨טְמָא־ (and she was defiled) בָ֔ם (by them) וַתֵּ֥קַע (and she dislocated) נַפְשָׁ֖הּ (her soul) מֵהֶֽם׃ (from them).

18  וַתְּגַל֙ (When she had uncovered) תַּזְנוּתֶ֔יהָ (her prostitutions), וַתְּגַ֖ל (and she uncovered) אֶת־ (-) עֶרְוָתָ֑הּ (her nakedness); וַתֵּ֤קַע (and I dislocated) נַפְשִׁי֙ (My soul) מֵֽעָלֶ֔יהָ (from her) כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר (as) נָקְעָ֥ה (I had dislocated) נַפְשִׁ֖י (My soul) מֵעַ֥ל (from) אֲחוֹתָֽהּ׃ (her sister). 19  וַתַּרְבֶּ֖ה (And she multiplied) אֶת־ (-) תַּזְנוּתֶ֑יהָ (her acts of prostitution), לִזְכֹּר֙ (to remember) אֶת־ (-) יְמֵ֣י (the days) נְעוּרֶ֔יהָ (of her youth), אֲשֶׁ֥ר (when) זָנְתָ֖ה (she had prostituted herself) בְּאֶ֥רֶץ (in the land) מִצְרָֽיִם׃ (of Egypt). 20  וַֽתַּעְגְּבָ֔ה (And lusted) עַ֖ל (after) פִּֽלַגְשֵׁיהֶ֑ם (their lovers), אֲשֶׁ֤ר (for whom) בְּשַׂר־ (the flesh) חֲמוֹרִים֙ (of donkeys), בְּשָׂרָ֔ם (is the flesh) וְזִרְמַ֥ת (and the emission) סוּסִ֖ים (of stallions) זִרְמָתָֽם׃ (was their emission). 21  וַֽתִּפְקְדִ֔י (And you revisited) אֵ֖ת (-) זִמַּ֣ת (the wickedness) נְעוּרָ֑יִךְ (of your youth), בַּעְשׂ֤וֹת (in the pressing) מִמִּצְרַ֙יִם֙ (by the Egyptians) דַּדַּ֔יִךְ (of your nipples) לְמַ֖עַן (on account) שְׁדֵ֥י (of the breasts) נְעוּרָֽיִךְ׃ס (of your youth).

Oholibah to Be Plagued

22  לָכֵ֣ן (Therefore), אָהֳלִיבָ֗ה (Oholibah), כֹּֽה־ (thus) אָמַר֮ (says) אֲדֹנָ֣י (the Lord) יְהוִה֒ (YHWH); הִנְנִ֨י (Behold, I) מֵעִ֤יר (am stirring up) אֶת־ (-) מְאַהֲבַ֙יִךְ֙ (your lovers) עָלַ֔יִךְ (against you) אֵ֛ת (-) אֲשֶׁר־ (whom) נָקְעָ֥ה (you have dislocated), נַפְשֵׁ֖ךְ (your soul) מֵהֶ֑ם (from them) וַהֲבֵאתִ֥ים (and I will bring them) עָלַ֖יִךְ (against you) מִסָּבִֽיב׃ (from all around); 23  בְּנֵ֧י (the sons) בָבֶ֣ל (of Babylon) וְכָל־ (and all) כַּשְׂדִּ֗ים (the Chaldeans), פְּק֤וֹד (Pekod), וְשׁ֙וֹעַ֙ (and Shoa), וְק֔וֹעַ (and Koa), כָּל־ (all) בְּנֵ֥י (the sons) אַשּׁ֖וּר (of Assyria) אוֹתָ֑ם (with them) בַּח֨וּרֵי (young men), חֶ֜מֶד (of desire) פַּח֤וֹת (governors) וּסְגָנִים֙ (and commanders), כֻּלָּ֔ם (all of them) שָֽׁלִשִׁים֙ (officers) וּקְרוּאִ֔ים (and renowned ones), רֹכְבֵ֥י (riding on) סוּסִ֖ים (horses) כֻּלָּֽם׃ (all of them).

24  וּבָ֣אוּ (And they will come) עָלַ֡יִךְ (against you) הֹ֠צֶן (with weapons), רֶ֤כֶב (chariots), וְגַלְגַּל֙ (and wagons), וּבִקְהַ֣ל (and with a horde) עַמִּ֔ים (of people), צִנָּ֤ה (buckler) וּמָגֵן֙ (and shield) וְקוֹבַ֔ע (and helmet) יָשִׂ֥ימוּ (they will array) עָלַ֖יִךְ (against you) סָבִ֑יב (all around); וְנָתַתִּ֤י (and I will give) לִפְנֵיהֶם֙ (to them) מִשְׁפָּ֔ט (judgment) וּשְׁפָט֖וּךְ (and they will judge you) בְּמִשְׁפְּטֵיהֶֽם׃ (by their own judgments). 25  וְנָתַתִּ֨י (And I will set) קִנְאָתִ֜י (My jealousy) בָּ֗ךְ (against you) וְעָשׂ֤וּ (and they will deal) אוֹתָךְ֙ (with you) בְּחֵמָ֔ה (in anger) אַפֵּ֤ךְ (your nose) וְאָזְנַ֙יִךְ֙ (and your ears); יָסִ֔ירוּ (they will turn aside) וְאַחֲרִיתֵ֖ךְ (and your survivors) בַּחֶ֣רֶב (by the sword). תִּפּ֑וֹל (Will fall) הֵ֗מָּה (they) בָּנַ֤יִךְ (your sons) וּבְנוֹתַ֙יִךְ֙ (and your daughters); יִקָּ֔חוּ (will take) וְאַחֲרִיתֵ֖ךְ (and your remnant) תֵּאָכֵ֥ל (will be devoured) בָּאֵֽשׁ׃ (by the fire). 26  וְהִפְשִׁיט֖וּךְ (And they will strip you) אֶת־ (-) בְּגָדָ֑יִךְ (of your clothes), וְלָקְח֖וּ (and they will take away) כְּלֵ֥י (the articles) תִפְאַרְתֵּֽךְ׃ (of your beauty). 27  וְהִשְׁבַּתִּ֤י (And I will make cease) זִמָּתֵךְ֙ (your wickedness) מִמֵּ֔ךְ (from you) וְאֶת־ (and) זְנוּתֵ֖ךְ (your prostitution) מֵאֶ֣רֶץ (from the land) מִצְרָ֑יִם (of Egypt); וְלֹֽא־ (and not) תִשְׂאִ֤י (will you lift up) עֵינַ֙יִךְ֙ (your eyes) אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם (to them) וּמִצְרַ֖יִם (and Egypt) לֹ֥א (not) תִזְכְּרִי־ (will you remember) עֽוֹד׃ס (anymore).

28  כִּ֣י (For) כֹ֤ה (thus) אָמַר֙ (says) אֲדֹנָ֣י (the Lord) יְהוִ֔ה (YHWH) הִנְנִי֙ (Behold, I) נֹֽתְנָ֔ךְ (am giving you) בְּיַ֖ד (into the hand) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (of those whom) שָׂנֵ֑את (you hate), בְּיַ֛ד (into the hand) אֲשֶׁר־ (of those whom) נָקְעָ֥ה (you had alienated) נַפְשֵׁ֖ךְ (your soul) מֵהֶֽם׃ (from them). 29  וְעָשׂ֨וּ (And they will deal) אוֹתָ֜ךְ (with you) בְּשִׂנְאָ֗ה (in hate), וְלָקְחוּ֙ (and they will take away) כָּל־ (all) יְגִיעֵ֔ךְ (your labor), וַעֲזָב֖וּךְ (and they will leave you) עֵירֹ֣ם (naked) וְעֶרְיָ֑ה (and bare). וְנִגְלָה֙ (And will be uncovered), עֶרְוַ֣ת (the nakedness) זְנוּנַ֔יִךְ (of your acts of prostitution) וְזִמָּתֵ֖ךְ (and your wickedness) וְתַזְנוּתָֽיִךְ׃ (and your prostitutions). 30  עָשֹׂ֥ה (I will do) אֵ֖לֶּה (these things) לָ֑ךְ (to you) בִּזְנוֹתֵךְ֙ (upon your prostituting yourself) אַחֲרֵ֣י (after) גוֹיִ֔ם (the nations), עַ֥ל (upon) אֲשֶׁר־ (that) נִטְמֵ֖את (you have defiled yourself) בְּגִלּוּלֵיהֶֽם׃ (with their idols). 31  בְּדֶ֥רֶךְ (In the way) אֲחוֹתֵ֖ךְ (of your sister); הָלָ֑כְתְּ (you have walked) וְנָתַתִּ֥י (and I have given) כוֹסָ֖הּ (her cup) בְּיָדֵֽךְ׃ס (into your hand).

32  כֹּ֤ה (Thus) אָמַר֙ (says) אֲדֹנָ֣י (the Lord) יְהֹוִ֔ה (YHWH);

כּ֤וֹס (The cup) אֲחוֹתֵךְ֙ (of your sister) תִּשְׁתִּ֔י (you will drink)

הָעֲמֻקָּ֖ה (deep) וְהָרְחָבָ֑ה (and wide).

תִּהְיֶ֥ה (It will bring) לִצְחֹ֛ק (to laughter) וּלְלַ֖עַג (and to derision)

מִרְבָּ֥ה (a great amount) לְהָכִֽיל׃ (in its containing).

33  שִׁכָּר֥וֹן (With drunkenness) וְיָג֖וֹן (and sorrow), תִּמָּלֵ֑אִי (you will be filled)

כּ֚וֹס (the cup) שַׁמָּ֣ה (of horror) וּשְׁמָמָ֔ה (and desolation),

כּ֖וֹס (the cup) אֲחוֹתֵ֥ךְ (of your sister) שֹׁמְרֽוֹן׃ (Samaria).

34  וְשָׁתִ֨ית (And you will drink) אוֹתָ֜הּ (it) וּמָצִ֗ית (and drain it),

וְאֶת־ (and) חֲרָשֶׂ֛יהָ (on its shards) תְּגָרֵ֖מִי (you will dash)

וְשָׁדַ֣יִךְ (your breasts); תְּנַתֵּ֑קִי (and tear at)

כִּ֚י (for) אֲנִ֣י (I) דִבַּ֔רְתִּי (have spoken)

נְאֻ֖ם (a declaration) אֲדֹנָ֥י (of the Lord) יְהוִֽה׃ס (YHWH).

35  לָכֵ֗ן (Therefore) כֹּ֤ה (thus) אָמַר֙ (says) אֲדֹנָ֣י (the Lord) יְהוִ֔ה (YHWH); יַ֚עַן (Because) שָׁכַ֣חַתְּ (you have forgotten) אוֹתִ֔י (Me) וַתַּשְׁלִ֥יכִי (and you have cast) אוֹתִ֖י (Me) אַחֲרֵ֣י (behind) גַוֵּ֑ךְ (your back), וְגַם־ (also) אַ֛תְּ (you) שְׂאִ֥י (will bear) זִמָּתֵ֖ךְ (your wickedness) וְאֶת־ (and) תַּזְנוּתָֽיִךְ׃ס (your prostitutions).

Judgment on Both Sisters

36  וַיֹּ֤אמֶר (And said) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) אֵלַ֔י (to me) בֶּן־ (Son) אָדָ֕ם (of man), הֲתִשְׁפּ֥וֹט (will you judge) אֶֽת־ (-) אָהֳלָ֖ה (Oholah) וְאֶת־ (and) אָהֳלִיבָ֑ה (Oholibah)? וְהַגֵּ֣ד (And you must make known) לָהֶ֔ן (to them) אֵ֖ת (-) תוֹעֲבוֹתֵיהֶֽן׃ (their abominations); 37  כִּ֣י (for) נִאֵ֗פוּ (they have committed adultery), וְדָם֙ (and blood is) בִּֽידֵיהֶ֔ן (on their hands), וְאֶת־ (and with) גִּלּֽוּלֵיהֶ֖ן (their idols) נִאֵ֑פוּ (they have committed adultery), וְגַ֤ם (and even) אֶת־ (-) בְּנֵיהֶן֙ (their sons), אֲשֶׁ֣ר (whom) יָֽלְדוּ־ (they bore) לִ֔י (to Me) הֶעֱבִ֥ירוּ (they made pass through the fire) לָהֶ֖ם (for them) לְאָכְלָֽה׃ (as food).

38  ע֥וֹד (Moreover) זֹ֖את (this) עָ֣שׂוּ (they have done) לִ֑י (to Me) טִמְּא֤וּ (they have defiled) אֶת־ (-) מִקְדָּשִׁי֙ (My sanctuary) בַּיּ֣וֹם (on the day), הַה֔וּא (that) וְאֶת־ (and) שַׁבְּתוֹתַ֖י (My Sabbaths) חִלֵּֽלוּ׃ (have profaned). 39  וּֽבְשַׁחֲטָ֤ם (And For in their slaughtering) אֶת־ (-) בְּנֵיהֶם֙ (their children) לְגִלּ֣וּלֵיהֶ֔ם (to their idols), וַיָּבֹ֧אוּ (and they came) אֶל־ (into) מִקְדָּשִׁ֛י (My sanctuary) בַּיּ֥וֹם (on the day) הַה֖וּא (that) לְחַלְּל֑וֹ (to profane it) וְהִנֵּה־ (and behold), כֹ֥ה (thus) עָשׂ֖וּ (they have done) בְּת֥וֹךְ (in the midst) בֵּיתִֽי׃ (of My house).

40  וְאַ֗ף (And also), כִּ֤י (it was that) תִשְׁלַ֙חְנָה֙ (they sent) לַֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים (for men) בָּאִ֖ים (to come) מִמֶּרְחָ֑ק (from afar), אֲשֶׁ֨ר (of whom) מַלְאָ֜ךְ (a messenger) שָׁל֤וּחַ (was sent); אֲלֵיהֶם֙ (to them) וְהִנֵּה־ (and behold), בָ֔אוּ (they came); לַאֲשֶׁ֥ר (those for whom) רָחַ֛צְתְּ (you washed yourself) כָּחַ֥לְתְּ (and painted) עֵינַ֖יִךְ (your eyes), וְעָ֥דִית (and adorned yourself) עֶֽדִי׃ (with ornaments), 41  וְיָשַׁבְתְּ֙ (and you sat) עַל־ (on) מִטָּ֣ה (a couch), כְבוּדָּ֔ה (glorious) וְשֻׁלְחָ֥ן (and with a table) עָר֖וּךְ (arranged) לְפָנֶ֑יהָ (before it) וּקְטָרְתִּ֥י (and My incense) וְשַׁמְנִ֖י (and My oil) שַׂ֥מְתְּ (you had set) עָלֶֽיהָ׃ (on it). 42  וְק֣וֹל (And the voice) הָמוֹן֮ (of a crowd) שָׁלֵ֣ו (at ease) בָהּ֒ (was with her) וְאֶל־ (and to) אֲנָשִׁים֙ (men) מֵרֹ֣ב (from the multitude) אָדָ֔ם (of mankind) מוּבָאִ֥ים (were brought) סוֹבָאִים (drunkards) מִמִּדְבָּ֑ר (from the wilderness), וַֽיִּתְּנ֤וּ (and they gave) צְמִידִים֙ (bracelets) אֶל־ (to) יְדֵיהֶ֔ן (their wrists), וַעֲטֶ֥רֶת (and crowns) תִּפְאֶ֖רֶת (of beauty) עַל־ (upon) רָאשֵׁיהֶֽן׃ (their heads).

43  וָאֹמַ֕ר (And I said) לַבָּלָ֖ה (of her who was worn out) נִֽאוּפִ֑ים (in adulteries), עַתָּ (Now) יִזְנֻה (will they commit) תַזְנוּתֶ֖הָ (prostitutions with her) וָהִֽיא׃ (and she also).

44  וַיָּב֣וֹא (And they have come in) אֵלֶ֔יהָ (to her) כְּב֖וֹא (as the coming in) אֶל־ (to) אִשָּׁ֣ה (a woman) זוֹנָ֑ה (a prostitute). כֵּ֣ן (Thus) בָּ֗אוּ (they went in) אֶֽל־ (to) אָֽהֳלָה֙ (Oholah) וְאֶל־ (and to) אָ֣הֳלִיבָ֔ה (Oholibah), אִשֹּׁ֖ת (women) הַזִּמָּֽה׃ (of wickedness). 45  וַאֲנָשִׁ֣ים (And men), צַדִּיקִ֗ם (righteous) הֵ֚מָּה (they) יִשְׁפְּט֣וּ (will pass judgment on) אֽוֹתְהֶ֔ם (them) מִשְׁפַּט֙ (with the judgment) נֹֽאֲפ֔וֹת (of adulteresses), וּמִשְׁפַּ֖ט (and with the judgment) שֹׁפְכ֣וֹת (of those shedding) דָּ֑ם (blood); כִּ֤י (because) נֹֽאֲפֹת֙ (adulteresses), הֵ֔נָּה (they are) וְדָ֖ם (and blood is) בִּֽידֵיהֶֽן׃ס (on their hands).

46  כִּ֛י (For) כֹּ֥ה (thus) אָמַ֖ר (says) אֲדֹנָ֣י (the Lord) יְהוִ֑ה (YHWH); הַעֲלֵ֤ה (Bring up) עֲלֵיהֶם֙ (against them) קָהָ֔ל (an assembly) וְנָתֹ֥ן (and give) אֶתְהֶ֖ן (them) לְזַעֲוָ֥ה (to terror) וְלָבַֽז׃ (and plunder). 47  וְרָגְמ֨וּ (And will stone) עֲלֵיהֶ֥ן (them) אֶ֙בֶן֙ (with stones), קָהָ֔ל (the assembly) וּבָרֵ֥א (and will cut down) אוֹתְהֶ֖ן (them) בְּחַרְבוֹתָ֑ם (with their swords); בְּנֵיהֶ֤ם (their sons) וּבְנֽוֹתֵיהֶם֙ (and their daughters), יַהֲרֹ֔גוּ (they will slay) וּבָתֵּיהֶ֖ן (and their houses) בָּאֵ֥שׁ (with the fire) יִשְׂרֹֽפוּ׃ (they will burn). 48  וְהִשְׁבַּתִּ֥י (And I will make cease) זִמָּ֖ה (this wickedness) מִן־ (from) הָאָ֑רֶץ (the land), וְנִֽוַּסְּרוּ֙ (and will be admonished) כָּל־ (all) הַנָּשִׁ֔ים (the women) וְלֹ֥א (so that not) תַעֲשֶׂ֖ינָה (they will act) כְּזִמַּתְכֶֽנָה׃ (according to your⁺ wickedness). 49  וְנָתְנ֤וּ (And they will put) זִמַּתְכֶ֙נָה֙ (your⁺ wickedness) עֲלֵיכֶ֔ן (upon you⁺) וַחֲטָאֵ֥י (and the sins) גִלּוּלֵיכֶ֖ן (of your⁺ idols); תִּשֶּׂ֑אינָה (you⁺ will bear) וִידַעְתֶּ֕ם (and you⁺ will know) כִּ֥י (that) אֲנִ֖י (I am) אֲדֹנָ֥י (the Lord) יְהוִֽה׃פ (YHWH).
