Berean Study Bible The Supremacy of the SonFrom the beginning of Israel’s history, God revealed His will over successive generations, speaking to Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, and the prophets. These revelations unfolded His purposes and prepared the way for the promised Messiah. Jer 7:25 From the day your fathers came out of Egypt… and in many different ways, God made His message known through direct speech, angels, dreams, visions, signs, covenant commands, and prophetic acts, according to the needs and circumstances of His servants. Num 12:6-8 He said, “Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you… God spoke to our fathers Israel’s ancestors received God’s covenant promises and commandments, establishing the history, worship, and hope shared by the Jewish people. Deu 5:22-27 The LORD spoke these commandments in a loud voice… through the prophets. The prophets delivered God’s authoritative word, calling Israel to faithfulness, warning of judgment, and announcing restoration through the coming Messiah. Neh 9:30 You were patient with them for many years… But in these last days God’s saving plan reached its climactic stage with the coming of Christ. The period begun by His first advent fulfills the promises anticipated in the Old Testament and continues until His return. Act 2:17 In the last days, God says, I will pour out My Spirit… He has spoken to us by His Son, Jesus is God’s full and final revelation, surpassing the partial messages delivered through the prophets. In Him, God made Himself known in human history through the incarnate Son. Jhn 12:49 I have not spoken on My own, but the Father who sent Me… whom He appointed heir of all things, The Son possesses rightful authority over all creation and will receive the nations and every kingdom under His rule. Psa 2:8 Ask Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance,… and through whom He made the universe. Before His incarnation, the Son was active in creation as the divine agent through whom God brought all things into being. Jhn 1:3 Through Him all things were made, and without Him,… The Son is the radiance of God’s glory Jesus visibly reveals the glory of the invisible God. The glory that filled the tabernacle and later the temple pointed forward to the full revelation of God in His Son, who came in human flesh without diminishing His deity. 2Co 4:6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,”… and the exact representation of His nature, Jesus possesses all that God is. He is not merely a prophet or reflection of divine truth, but fully God, sharing the Father’s nature while remaining distinct in person. Jhn 14:9 Jesus replied, “Philip, I have been with you all this time…”… upholding all things by His powerful word. The Son not only created all things but continually sustains them. The order, existence, and continuance of the universe rest under His authority. Col 1:17 He is before all things, and in Him all things… After He had provided purification for sins, By His sacrificial death, Jesus accomplished the cleansing that the repeated sacrifices of the old covenant could only anticipate. His offering was sufficient to deal with sin once for all. Eph 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood,… He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. Having completed His atoning work, Christ took His place of supreme honor and authority beside the Father. His seated position declares that His sacrifice was finished and His reign has begun. Psa 110:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD said to my Lord:… So He became as far superior to the angels Having completed the work of purification for sins and taken His seat at God’s right hand, the risen Christ was publicly enthroned above every angelic being. Angels serve God as His messengers and ministers, but the Son reigns with the Father and possesses authority over them. 1Pe 3:22 who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God,… as the name He has inherited is excellent beyond theirs. The name is Son, expressing Christ’s unique and eternal relationship to the Father and signifying His authority, character, and identity. Angels may be called sons of God as created servants, but Jesus is the Son in a singular sense, sharing the Father’s nature and receiving the honor, authority, and kingdom that belong to Him. Php 2:9-11 Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place… For to which of the angels did God ever say: God never granted an angel the place or name belonging to the Messiah. Angels serve as God’s messengers, but the Son shares the Father’s rule and authority. Psa 103:20 Bless the LORD, all His angels mighty in strength… “You are My Son; Jesus alone is the eternal Son and the promised King from David’s line. Psa 2:7 I will proclaim the decree spoken to Me by the LORD:… today I have become Your Father”? The declaration marks His public enthronement and vindication, not the beginning of His existence. In His resurrection and exaltation, the Father openly confirmed the Son’s royal authority. Act 13:33 He has fulfilled for us, their children… Or again: Scripture gives a second witness to the Son’s unique relationship with the Father. Luk 1:32-33 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High… “I will be His Father, and He will be My Son”? God’s covenant promise to David’s royal house finds its complete fulfillment in Jesus. He is the everlasting King, distinct from every angel and appointed to reign forever. 2Sa 7:14 I will be his Father, and he will be My son.… And again, when God brings His firstborn into the world, Jesus is God’s eternal Son, supreme over all creation and uniquely related to the Father. His coming into the world points to His incarnation, when He entered human history to fulfill God’s promised plan of redemption. Luk 2:7 And she gave birth to her firstborn, a Son.… He says: “Let all God’s angels worship Him.” The angels, though mighty servants of God, are commanded to worship Christ. Their worship confirms that Jesus is not a created being but the divine Son, exalted above every heavenly power. Deu 32:43 Rejoice, O heavens, with Him, and let all God's angels… Now about the angels He says: Hebrews contrasts angels with the Son to show their different places in God’s order. Angels are created servants who carry out God’s commands; they are not rulers or objects of worship. Psa 103:20-21 Bless the LORD, all His angels mighty in strength… “He makes His angels winds, Angels move at God’s direction with speed and power, unseen yet active in fulfilling His purposes. Their strength and glory are derived from the One who sends them. Psa 104:4 He makes the winds His messengers, flames of fire… His servants flames of fire.” Like fire, angels may bring God’s protection, judgment, or cleansing work. Their role remains that of servants, while the Son reigns eternally with divine authority. Deu 33:2 He said: “The LORD came from Sinai and dawned… But about the Son He says: God the Father speaks concerning the Son, distinguishing Him from the angels and declaring His unique authority. Hebrews presents Jesus as greater than every created messenger because He is the eternal Son and rightful ruler. Psa 2:7 I will proclaim the decree spoken to Me by the LORD:… “Your throne, O God, The Father addresses the Son as God, affirming Christ’s full deity. Jesus possesses the authority, honor, and kingship that belong to God alone. Psa 45:6 Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever,… endures forever and ever, Christ’s reign has no beginning or end. Earthly kingdoms rise and fall, but His dominion remains unchanged and will continue throughout eternity. Psa 93:2 Your throne was established long ago; … and justice is the scepter of Your kingdom. Jesus rules with perfect righteousness. His authority is never corrupt or arbitrary; every judgment and act of His kingdom accords with God’s holy standard. Psa 89:14 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne… You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; Jesus perfectly loved all that is right and holy and opposed every form of sin. His sinless life fulfilled God’s will without compromise, qualifying Him to serve as the flawless High Priest and mediator of the New Covenant. Psa 45:7 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;… therefore God, Your God, has anointed You The Father appointed the Son to His messianic office and publicly honored Him for His obedient work. Though eternally divine, the Son willingly carried out the Father’s saving purpose in His incarnation, death, resurrection, and exaltation. Act 10:38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit… above Your companions Christ stands above every earthly king, priest, prophet, and all others who share human nature. His authority and honor are unique because He is both the eternal Son of God and the risen Lord who has completed redemption. Psa 89:27 I will indeed appoint him as My firstborn,… with the oil of joy.” The imagery of anointing with oil portrays divine favor, consecration, and triumphant joy. Having overcome sin and death, Jesus reigns in glory, and His victory secures lasting joy for all who belong to Him. Isa 61:3 to console the mourners in Zion—to give them a crown… And: The argument continues by presenting the Son as eternal Creator, distinct from the created angels. Jhn 1:3 Through Him all things were made, and without Him,… “In the beginning, Before the world existed, the Son was already present and active in creation. Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. O Lord, The Son is addressed with the divine title belonging to the God of Israel, affirming His full deity and sovereign authority. Psa 90:2 Before the mountains were born or You brought forth… You laid the foundations of the earth, He established the earth by His power, giving creation its order and permanence. Job 38:4 Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?… and the heavens are the work of Your hands. The entire universe was made by Him and remains subject to His rule. Psa 8:3 When I behold Your heavens, the work of Your fingers… They will perish, The heavens and earth, though created by God and displaying His power, are not eternal. The present order is marked by corruption and will pass away in God’s appointed judgment and renewal. Psa 102:26 They will perish, but You remain; they will all… but You remain; Addressed to the Son, these words affirm that Christ existed before creation and will outlast it. His unchanging nature distinguishes Him from all that He made and confirms His divine authority. Psa 102:27 But You remain the same, and Your years will never end. they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing that ages and is discarded, the present heavens and earth will grow old and be replaced. Creation is temporary; Christ remains forever. Isa 50:9 Surely the Lord GOD helps Me. Who is there to condemn Me?… You will roll them up like a robe; The present heavens and earth are under God’s authority and will not endure forever. As a garment may be set aside when its use is complete, creation will reach the end appointed by its Creator. Isa 34:4 All the stars of heaven will be dissolved.… like a garment they will be changed; God will not abandon His purposes for creation. The passing of the present order will give way to the new heavens and new earth He has promised, cleansed from sin, corruption, and death. Isa 51:6 But My salvation will last forever, and My righteousness…… but You remain the same, The Son stands above the changing world because He is eternal and unchanging. What He has purposed, promised, and accomplished cannot fail. Psa 102:27 But You remain the same, and Your years will never end. and Your years will never end.” Christ’s reign has no beginning or end. While all created things are temporary, He remains forever, sovereign over every age and the final renewal of all things. Psa 90:2 Before the mountains were born or You brought forth… Yet to which of the angels did God ever say: Angels serve God as ministering spirits, but none receives the honor, authority, or rule granted to the Son. The contrast establishes Christ’s supremacy over every heavenly being. Psa 103:20 Bless the LORD, all His angels mighty in strength… “Sit at My right hand The risen Jesus occupies the place of highest honor and authority beside the Father. He reigns as the promised Messiah, sharing in God’s sovereign rule. Psa 110:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD said to my Lord:… until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet”? God will bring every enemy under Christ’s authority. Though opposition remains in the world, Christ’s final victory over sin, death, and all rebellious powers is certain. Heb 10:13 Since that time, He waits for His enemies…… Are not the angels ministering spirits God created angels as spiritual beings who carry out His commands. Though they may appear in visible form when God sends them, their true nature is spiritual. They serve God as His messengers and agents, never as rivals to Christ or objects of worship. Psa 103:20-21 Bless the LORD, all His angels mighty in strength… sent to serve Angels are dispatched according to God’s will to protect, guide, strengthen, or deliver His messages. Their service is directed by God and remains subordinate to the authority of His Son. Luk 1:19 “I am Gabriel,” replied the angel. “I stand in the presence…”… those who will inherit salvation? Their ministry is given for God’s people, who belong to Christ and will receive the full inheritance of salvation when He returns. Believers already possess salvation through Christ, yet await its final completion in eternal life. Rom 8:17 And if we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God… This is a draft of the Berean Study Bible. Please send all comments and recommendations to bereanstudybible@aol.com. Bible Hub |
