To Timothy,
my true
child
in
the faith:
Grace,
mercy,
and peace
from
God
the Father
and
Christ
Jesus
our
Lord.
Unto Timothy,
[my] own
son
in
the faith:
Grace,
mercy,
[and] peace,
from
God
our
Father
and
Jesus
Christ
our
Lord.

As
I urged
you
on my departure
to
Macedonia,
you should stay on
at
Ephesus
to
instruct
certain men
not
to teach false doctrines
As
I besought
thee
to abide still
at
Ephesus,
when I went
into
Macedonia,
that
thou mightest charge
some
that they teach
no
other doctrine,

The
goal
of our
instruction
is
the love
that comes from
a pure
heart,
a clear
conscience,
and
a sincere
faith.
Now
the end
of the commandment
is
charity
out of
a pure
heart,
and
[of] a good
conscience,
and
[of] faith
unfeigned:

Some
have strayed
from these ways
and turned aside
to
empty talk.
From which
some
having swerved
have turned aside
unto
vain jangling;

They want
to be
teachers of the law,
but they do not understand
what
they are saying
or
that
which
they so confidently assert.
Desiring

teachers of the law;
understanding
neither

whereof
they affirm.

Now
we know
that
the
law
is good,
if
one
uses
it
legitimately.
But
we know
that
the law
[is] good,
if
a man
use
it
lawfully;

but
for the lawless

for the ungodly

for murderers,
Knowing
this,
that

for sinners,
for unholy

I was
formerly

a persecutor,
and

yet
because
I had acted
in
ignorance
and unbelief,
I was shown mercy.
Who

but
I obtained mercy,
because
I did

in

This is a trustworthy
saying,
worthy
of full
acceptance:
Christ
Jesus
came
into
the
world
to save
sinners,
of whom
I
am
the worst.
This [is] a faithful
saying,
and
worthy
of all
acceptation,
that
Christ
Jesus
came
into
the world
to save
sinners;
of whom
I
am
chief.

But
for this very reason
I was shown mercy,
so that
in
me,
the worst of sinners,
Christ
Jesus
might display
His
perfect
patience
as
an example
to those who
would
believe
in
Him
for
eternal
life.
Howbeit
for this
cause
I obtained mercy,
that
in
me
first
Jesus
Christ
might shew forth
all
longsuffering,
for
a pattern
to them which should hereafter
believe
on
him
to
life
everlasting.

This
