Now the apostles and the brethren who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.1Ἤκουσαν δὲ οἱ ἀπόστολοι καὶ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ οἱ ὄντες κατὰ τὴν Ἰουδαίαν ὅτι καὶ τὰ ἔθνη ἐδέξαντο τὸν λόγον τοῦ Θεοῦ
And when Peter came up to Jerusalem, those who were circumcised took issue with him,2Ὅτε δὲ ἀνέβη Πέτρος εἰς Ἰερουσαλήμ διεκρίνοντο πρὸς αὐτὸν οἱ ἐκ περιτομῆς
saying, "You went to uncircumcised men and ate with them."3λέγοντες ὅτι Εἰσῆλθες πρὸς ἄνδρας ἀκροβυστίαν ἔχοντας καὶ συνέφαγες αὐτοῖς
But Peter began speaking and proceeded to explain to them in orderly sequence, saying,4Ἀρξάμενος δὲ Πέτρος ἐξετίθετο αὐτοῖς καθεξῆς λέγων
"I was in the city of Joppa praying; and in a trance I saw a vision, an object coming down like a great sheet lowered by four corners from the sky; and it came right down to me,5Ἐγὼ ἤμην ἐν πόλει Ἰόππῃ προσευχόμενος καὶ εἶδον ἐν ἐκστάσει ὅραμα καταβαῖνον σκεῦός τι ὡς ὀθόνην μεγάλην τέσσαρσιν ἀρχαῖς καθιεμένην ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ ἦλθεν ἄχρι ἐμοῦ
and when I had fixed my gaze on it and was observing it I saw the four-footed animals of the earth and the wild beasts and the crawling creatures and the birds of the air.6εἰς ἣν ἀτενίσας κατενόουν καὶ εἶδον τὰ τετράποδα τῆς γῆς καὶ τὰ θηρία καὶ τὰ ἑρπετὰ καὶ τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ
"I also heard a voice saying to me, 'Get up, Peter; kill and eat.'7ἤκουσα δὲ καὶ φωνῆς λεγούσης μοι Ἀναστάς Πέτρε θῦσον καὶ φάγε
"But I said, 'By no means, Lord, for nothing unholy or unclean has ever entered my mouth.'8Εἶπον δέ Μηδαμῶς Κύριε ὅτι κοινὸν ἀκάθαρτον οὐδέποτε εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὸ στόμα μου
"But a voice from heaven answered a second time, 'What God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy.'9Ἀπεκρίθη δὲ «ἐκ δευτέρου» φωνὴ ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ Θεὸς ἐκαθάρισεν σὺ μὴ κοίνου
"This happened three times, and everything was drawn back up into the sky.10Τοῦτο δὲ ἐγένετο ἐπὶ τρίς καὶ ἀνεσπάσθη πάλιν ἅπαντα εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν
"And behold, at that moment three men appeared at the house in which we were staying, having been sent to me from Caesarea.11Καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐξαυτῆς τρεῖς ἄνδρες ἐπέστησαν ἐπὶ τὴν οἰκίαν ἐν ἦμεν ἀπεσταλμένοι ἀπὸ Καισαρείας πρός με
"The Spirit told me to go with them without misgivings. These six brethren also went with me and we entered the man's house.12εἶπεν δὲ τὸ Πνεῦμά μοι συνελθεῖν αὐτοῖς μηδὲν διακρίναντα ἦλθον δὲ σὺν ἐμοὶ καὶ οἱ ἓξ ἀδελφοὶ οὗτοι καὶ εἰσήλθομεν εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ ἀνδρός
"And he reported to us how he had seen the angel standing in his house, and saying, 'Send to Joppa and have Simon, who is also called Peter, brought here;13ἀπήγγειλεν δὲ ἡμῖν πῶς εἶδεν τὸν ἄγγελον ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ σταθέντα καὶ εἰπόντα Ἀπόστειλον εἰς Ἰόππην καὶ μετάπεμψαι Σίμωνα τὸν ἐπικαλούμενον Πέτρον
and he will speak words to you by which you will be saved, you and all your household.'14ὃς λαλήσει ῥήματα πρὸς σὲ ἐν οἷς σωθήσῃ σὺ καὶ πᾶς οἶκός σου
"And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them just as He did upon us at the beginning.15Ἐν δὲ τῷ ἄρξασθαί με λαλεῖν ἐπέπεσεν τὸ Πνεῦμα τὸ Ἅγιον ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς ὥσπερ καὶ ἐφ’ ἡμᾶς ἐν ἀρχῇ
"And I remembered the word of the Lord, how He used to say, 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'16ἐμνήσθην δὲ τοῦ ῥήματος τοῦ Κυρίου ὡς ἔλεγεν Ἰωάννης μὲν ἐβάπτισεν ὕδατι ὑμεῖς δὲ βαπτισθήσεσθε ἐν Πνεύματι Ἁγίῳ
"Therefore if God gave to them the same gift as He gave to us also after believing in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could stand in God's way?"17εἰ οὖν τὴν ἴσην δωρεὰν ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς Θεὸς ὡς καὶ ἡμῖν πιστεύσασιν ἐπὶ τὸν Κύριον Ἰησοῦν Χριστόν ἐγὼ τίς ἤμην δυνατὸς κωλῦσαι τὸν Θεόν
When they heard this, they quieted down and glorified God, saying, "Well then, God has granted to the Gentiles also the repentance that leads to life."18Ἀκούσαντες δὲ ταῦτα ἡσύχασαν καὶ ἐδόξασαν τὸν Θεὸν λέγοντες Ἄρα καὶ τοῖς ἔθνεσιν Θεὸς τὴν μετάνοιαν εἰς ζωὴν ἔδωκεν
So then those who were scattered because of the persecution that occurred in connection with Stephen made their way to Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except to Jews alone.19Οἱ μὲν οὖν διασπαρέντες ἀπὸ τῆς θλίψεως τῆς γενομένης ἐπὶ Στεφάνῳ διῆλθον ἕως Φοινίκης καὶ Κύπρου καὶ Ἀντιοχείας μηδενὶ λαλοῦντες τὸν λόγον εἰ μὴ μόνον Ἰουδαίοις
But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who came to Antioch and began speaking to the Greeks also, preaching the Lord Jesus.20Ἦσαν δέ τινες ἐξ αὐτῶν ἄνδρες Κύπριοι καὶ Κυρηναῖοι οἵτινες ἐλθόντες εἰς Ἀντιόχειαν ἐλάλουν καὶ πρὸς τοὺς Ἑλληνιστάς εὐαγγελιζόμενοι τὸν Κύριον Ἰησοῦν
And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a large number who believed turned to the Lord.21καὶ ἦν χεὶρ Κυρίου μετ’ αὐτῶν πολύς τε ἀριθμὸς πιστεύσας ἐπέστρεψεν ἐπὶ τὸν Κύριον
The news about them reached the ears of the church at Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas off to Antioch.22Ἠκούσθη δὲ λόγος εἰς τὰ ὦτα τῆς ἐκκλησίας τῆς οὔσης ἐν Ἰερουσαλὴμ περὶ αὐτῶν καὶ ἐξαπέστειλαν Βαρνάβαν [διελθεῖν] ἕως Ἀντιοχείας
Then when he arrived and witnessed the grace of God, he rejoiced and began to encourage them all with resolute heart to remain true to the Lord;23ὃς παραγενόμενος καὶ ἰδὼν τὴν χάριν τὴν τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐχάρη καὶ παρεκάλει πάντας τῇ προθέσει τῆς καρδίας προσμένειν (ἐν) τῷ Κυρίῳ
for he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And considerable numbers were brought to the Lord.24ὅτι ἦν ἀνὴρ ἀγαθὸς καὶ πλήρης Πνεύματος Ἁγίου καὶ πίστεως καὶ προσετέθη ὄχλος ἱκανὸς τῷ Κυρίῳ
And he left for Tarsus to look for Saul;25Ἐξῆλθεν δὲ εἰς Ταρσὸν ἀναζητῆσαι Σαῦλον
and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. And for an entire year they met with the church and taught considerable numbers; and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.26καὶ εὑρὼν ἤγαγεν εἰς Ἀντιόχειαν ἐγένετο δὲ αὐτοῖς καὶ ἐνιαυτὸν ὅλον συναχθῆναι ἐν τῇ ἐκκλησίᾳ καὶ διδάξαι ὄχλον ἱκανόν χρηματίσαι τε πρώτως ἐν Ἀντιοχείᾳ τοὺς μαθητὰς Χριστιανούς
Now at this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.27Ἐν ταύταις δὲ ταῖς ἡμέραις κατῆλθον ἀπὸ Ἱεροσολύμων προφῆται εἰς Ἀντιόχειαν
One of them named Agabus stood up and began to indicate by the Spirit that there would certainly be a great famine all over the world. And this took place in the reign of Claudius.28ἀναστὰς δὲ εἷς ἐξ αὐτῶν ὀνόματι Ἅγαβος ἐσήμανεν διὰ τοῦ Πνεύματος λιμὸν μεγάλην μέλλειν ἔσεσθαι ἐφ’ ὅλην τὴν οἰκουμένην ἥτις ἐγένετο ἐπὶ Κλαυδίου
And in the proportion that any of the disciples had means, each of them determined to send a contribution for the relief of the brethren living in Judea.29τῶν δὲ μαθητῶν καθὼς εὐπορεῖτό τις ὥρισαν ἕκαστος αὐτῶν εἰς διακονίαν πέμψαι τοῖς κατοικοῦσιν ἐν τῇ Ἰουδαίᾳ ἀδελφοῖς
And this they did, sending it in charge of Barnabas and Saul to the elders.30 καὶ ἐποίησαν ἀποστείλαντες πρὸς τοὺς πρεσβυτέρους διὰ χειρὸς Βαρνάβα καὶ Σαύλου
