1You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.1Σὺ οὖν τέκνον μου ἐνδυναμοῦ ἐν τῇ χάριτι τῇ ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ
2The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.2καὶ ἃ ἤκουσας παρ’ ἐμοῦ διὰ πολλῶν μαρτύρων ταῦτα παράθου πιστοῖς ἀνθρώποις οἵτινες ἱκανοὶ ἔσονται καὶ ἑτέρους διδάξαι
3Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.3Συνκακοπάθησον ὡς καλὸς στρατιώτης Χριστοῦ Ἰησοῦ
4No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier.4οὐδεὶς στρατευόμενος ἐμπλέκεται ταῖς τοῦ βίου πραγματείαις ἵνα τῷ στρατολογήσαντι ἀρέσῃ
5Also if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not win the prize unless he competes according to the rules.5ἐὰν δὲ καὶ ἀθλῇ τις οὐ στεφανοῦται ἐὰν μὴ νομίμως ἀθλήσῃ
6The hard-working farmer ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops.6τὸν κοπιῶντα γεωργὸν δεῖ πρῶτον τῶν καρπῶν μεταλαμβάνειν
7Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.7νόει ὃ λέγω δώσει γάρ σοι ὁ Κύριος σύνεσιν ἐν πᾶσιν
8Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, descendant of David, according to my gospel,8Μνημόνευε Ἰησοῦν Χριστὸν ἐγηγερμένον ἐκ νεκρῶν ἐκ σπέρματος Δαυίδ κατὰ τὸ εὐαγγέλιόν μου
9for which I suffer hardship even to imprisonment as a criminal; but the word of God is not imprisoned.9ἐν ᾧ κακοπαθῶ μέχρι δεσμῶν ὡς κακοῦργος ἀλλὰ ὁ λόγος τοῦ Θεοῦ οὐ δέδεται
10For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory.10διὰ τοῦτο πάντα ὑπομένω διὰ τοὺς ἐκλεκτούς ἵνα καὶ αὐτοὶ σωτηρίας τύχωσιν τῆς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ μετὰ δόξης αἰωνίου
11It is a trustworthy statement: For if we died with Him, we will also live with Him;11Πιστὸς ὁ λόγος Εἰ γὰρ συναπεθάνομεν καὶ συζήσομεν
12If we endure, we will also reign with Him; If we deny Him, He also will deny us;12εἰ ὑπομένομεν καὶ συμβασιλεύσομεν* εἰ ἀρνησόμεθα κἀκεῖνος ἀρνήσεται ἡμᾶς
13If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.13εἰ ἀπιστοῦμεν ἐκεῖνος πιστὸς μένει ἀρνήσασθαι γὰρ ἑαυτὸν οὐ δύναται
14Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers.14Ταῦτα ὑπομίμνῃσκε διαμαρτυρόμενος ἐνώπιον τοῦ Θεοῦ μὴ λογομαχεῖν ἐπ’ οὐδὲν χρήσιμον ἐπὶ καταστροφῇ τῶν ἀκουόντων
15Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.15Σπούδασον σεαυτὸν δόκιμον παραστῆσαι τῷ Θεῷ ἐργάτην ἀνεπαίσχυντον ὀρθοτομοῦντα τὸν λόγον τῆς ἀληθείας
16But avoid worldly and empty chatter, for it will lead to further ungodliness,16Τὰς δὲ βεβήλους κενοφωνίας περιΐστασο ἐπὶ πλεῖον γὰρ προκόψουσιν ἀσεβείας
17and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,17καὶ ὁ λόγος αὐτῶν ὡς γάγγραινα νομὴν ἕξει ὧν ἐστιν Ὑμέναιος καὶ Φιλητός
18men who have gone astray from the truth saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and they upset the faith of some.18οἵτινες περὶ τὴν ἀλήθειαν ἠστόχησαν λέγοντες [τὴν] ἀνάστασιν ἤδη γεγονέναι καὶ ἀνατρέπουσιν τήν τινων πίστιν
19Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness."19Ὁ μέντοι στερεὸς θεμέλιος τοῦ Θεοῦ ἕστηκεν ἔχων τὴν σφραγῖδα ταύτην Ἔγνω Κύριος τοὺς ὄντας αὐτοῦ καί Ἀποστήτω ἀπὸ ἀδικίας πᾶς ὁ ὀνομάζων τὸ ὄνομα Κυρίου
20Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and some to honor and some to dishonor.20Ἐν μεγάλῃ δὲ οἰκίᾳ οὐκ ἔστιν μόνον σκεύη χρυσᾶ καὶ ἀργυρᾶ ἀλλὰ καὶ ξύλινα καὶ ὀστράκινα καὶ ἃ μὲν εἰς τιμὴν ἃ δὲ εἰς ἀτιμίαν
21Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.21ἐὰν οὖν τις ἐκκαθάρῃ ἑαυτὸν ἀπὸ τούτων ἔσται σκεῦος εἰς τιμήν ἡγιασμένον εὔχρηστον τῷ δεσπότῃ εἰς πᾶν ἔργον ἀγαθὸν ἡτοιμασμένον
22Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.22Τὰς δὲ νεωτερικὰς ἐπιθυμίας φεῦγε δίωκε δὲ δικαιοσύνην πίστιν ἀγάπην εἰρήνην μετὰ τῶν ἐπικαλουμένων τὸν Κύριον ἐκ καθαρᾶς καρδίας
23But refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels.23Τὰς δὲ μωρὰς καὶ ἀπαιδεύτους ζητήσεις παραιτοῦ εἰδὼς ὅτι γεννῶσιν μάχας
24The Lord's bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged,24δοῦλον δὲ Κυρίου οὐ δεῖ μάχεσθαι ἀλλὰ ἤπιον εἶναι πρὸς πάντας διδακτικόν ἀνεξίκακον
25with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth,25ἐν πραΰτητι παιδεύοντα τοὺς ἀντιδιατιθεμένους μή‿ ποτε δώῃ αὐτοῖς ὁ Θεὸς μετάνοιαν εἰς ἐπίγνωσιν ἀληθείας
26and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will.26καὶ ἀνανήψωσιν ἐκ τῆς τοῦ διαβόλου παγίδος ἐζωγρημένοι ὑπ’ αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸ ἐκείνου θέλημα
