When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him.1Καταβάντος δὲ αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄρους ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ ὄχλοι πολλοί
And behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.”2καὶ ἰδοὺ λεπρὸς προσελθὼν προσεκύνει αὐτῷ λέγων Κύριε ἐὰν θέλῃς δύνασαί με καθαρίσαι
And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.3Καὶ ἐκτείνας τὴν χεῖρα ἥψατο αὐτοῦ λέγων Θέλω καθαρίσθητι καὶ εὐθέως ἐκαθαρίσθη* αὐτοῦ λέπρα
And Jesus said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to them.”4καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ Ἰησοῦς Ὅρα μηδενὶ εἴπῃς ἀλλὰ ὕπαγε σεαυτὸν δεῖξον τῷ ἱερεῖ καὶ προσένεγκον τὸ δῶρον προσέταξεν Μωϋσῆς εἰς μαρτύριον αὐτοῖς
When he had entered Capernaum, a centurion came forward to him, appealing to him,5Εἰσελθόντος δὲ αὐτοῦ εἰς Καφαρναοὺμ προσῆλθεν αὐτῷ ἑκατόνταρχος παρακαλῶν αὐτὸν
“Lord, my servant is lying paralyzed at home, suffering terribly.”6καὶ λέγων Κύριε παῖς μου βέβληται ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ παραλυτικός δεινῶς βασανιζόμενος
And he said to him, “I will come and heal him.”7‹Καὶ› λέγει αὐτῷ Ἐγὼ ἐλθὼν θεραπεύσω αὐτόν
But the centurion replied, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you come under my roof, but only say the word, and my servant will be healed.8Ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ἑκατόνταρχος ἔφη Κύριε οὐκ εἰμὶ ἱκανὸς ἵνα μου ὑπὸ τὴν στέγην εἰσέλθῃς ἀλλὰ μόνον εἰπὲ λόγῳ καὶ ἰαθήσεται παῖς μου
For I too am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes, and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes, and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”9καὶ γὰρ ἐγὼ ἄνθρωπός εἰμι ὑπὸ ἐξουσίαν (τασσόμενος) ἔχων ὑπ’ ἐμαυτὸν στρατιώτας καὶ λέγω τούτῳ Πορεύθητι καὶ πορεύεται καὶ ἄλλῳ Ἔρχου καὶ ἔρχεται καὶ τῷ δούλῳ μου Ποίησον τοῦτο καὶ ποιεῖ
When Jesus heard this, he marveled and said to those who followed him, “Truly, I tell you, with no one in Israel have I found such faith.10Ἀκούσας δὲ Ἰησοῦς ἐθαύμασεν καὶ εἶπεν τοῖς ἀκολουθοῦσιν Ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν παρ’ οὐδενὶ τοσαύτην πίστιν ἐν τῷ Ἰσραὴλ εὗρον
I tell you, many will come from east and west and recline at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven,11λέγω δὲ ὑμῖν ὅτι πολλοὶ ἀπὸ ἀνατολῶν καὶ δυσμῶν ἥξουσιν καὶ ἀνακλιθήσονται μετὰ Ἀβραὰμ καὶ Ἰσαὰκ καὶ Ἰακὼβ ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τῶν οὐρανῶν
while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”12οἱ δὲ υἱοὶ τῆς βασιλείας ἐκβληθήσονται εἰς τὸ σκότος τὸ ἐξώτερον ἐκεῖ ἔσται κλαυθμὸς καὶ βρυγμὸς τῶν ὀδόντων
And to the centurion Jesus said, “Go; let it be done for you as you have believed.” And the servant was healed at that very moment.13Καὶ εἶπεν Ἰησοῦς τῷ ἑκατοντάρχῃ Ὕπαγε ὡς ἐπίστευσας γενηθήτω σοι καὶ ἰάθη παῖς [αὐτοῦ] ἐν τῇ ὥρᾳ ἐκείνῃ
And when Jesus entered Peter’s house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever.14Καὶ ἐλθὼν Ἰησοῦς εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν Πέτρου εἶδεν τὴν πενθερὰν αὐτοῦ βεβλημένην καὶ πυρέσσουσαν
He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve him.15καὶ ἥψατο τῆς χειρὸς αὐτῆς καὶ ἀφῆκεν αὐτὴν πυρετός καὶ ἠγέρθη καὶ διηκόνει αὐτῷ
That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick.16Ὀψίας δὲ γενομένης προσήνεγκαν αὐτῷ δαιμονιζομένους πολλούς καὶ ἐξέβαλεν τὰ πνεύματα λόγῳ καὶ πάντας τοὺς κακῶς ἔχοντας ἐθεράπευσεν
This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.”17ὅπως πληρωθῇ τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ Ἠσαΐου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος Αὐτὸς τὰς ἀσθενείας ἡμῶν ἔλαβεν καὶ τὰς νόσους ἐβάστασεν
Now when Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side.18Ἰδὼν δὲ Ἰησοῦς ‹πολλοὺς› ὄχλον περὶ αὐτὸν ἐκέλευσεν ἀπελθεῖν εἰς τὸ πέραν
And a scribe came up and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.”19Καὶ προσελθὼν εἷς γραμματεὺς εἶπεν αὐτῷ Διδάσκαλε ἀκολουθήσω σοι ὅπου ἐὰν ἀπέρχῃ
And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”20Καὶ λέγει αὐτῷ Ἰησοῦς Αἱ ἀλώπεκες φωλεοὺς ἔχουσιν καὶ τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ κατασκηνώσεις δὲ Υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου οὐκ ἔχει ποῦ τὴν κεφαλὴν κλίνῃ
Another of the disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.”21Ἕτερος δὲ τῶν μαθητῶν [αὐτοῦ] εἶπεν αὐτῷ Κύριε ἐπίτρεψόν μοι πρῶτον ἀπελθεῖν καὶ θάψαι τὸν πατέρα μου
And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.”22 δὲ Ἰησοῦς λέγει αὐτῷ Ἀκολούθει μοι καὶ ἄφες τοὺς νεκροὺς θάψαι τοὺς ἑαυτῶν νεκρούς
And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him.23Καὶ ἐμβάντι αὐτῷ εἰς τὸ πλοῖον ἠκολούθησαν αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ
And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep.24καὶ ἰδοὺ σεισμὸς μέγας ἐγένετο ἐν τῇ θαλάσσῃ ὥστε τὸ πλοῖον καλύπτεσθαι ὑπὸ τῶν κυμάτων αὐτὸς δὲ ἐκάθευδεν
And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.”25καὶ προσελθόντες ἤγειραν αὐτὸν λέγοντες Κύριε σῶσον ἀπολλύμεθα
And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.26Καὶ λέγει αὐτοῖς Τί δειλοί ἐστε ὀλιγόπιστοι τότε ἐγερθεὶς ἐπετίμησεν τοῖς ἀνέμοις καὶ τῇ θαλάσσῃ καὶ ἐγένετο γαλήνη μεγάλη
And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?”27Οἱ δὲ ἄνθρωποι ἐθαύμασαν λέγοντες Ποταπός ἐστιν οὗτος ὅτι καὶ οἱ ἄνεμοι καὶ θάλασσα αὐτῷ ὑπακούουσιν
And when he came to the other side, to the country of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one could pass that way.28Καὶ ἐλθόντος αὐτοῦ εἰς τὸ πέραν εἰς τὴν χώραν τῶν Γαδαρηνῶν ὑπήντησαν αὐτῷ δύο δαιμονιζόμενοι ἐκ τῶν μνημείων ἐξερχόμενοι χαλεποὶ λίαν ὥστε μὴ ἰσχύειν τινὰ παρελθεῖν διὰ τῆς ὁδοῦ ἐκείνης
And behold, they cried out, “What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?”29Καὶ ἰδοὺ ἔκραξαν λέγοντες Τί ἡμῖν καὶ σοί Υἱὲ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἦλθες ὧδε πρὸ καιροῦ βασανίσαι ἡμᾶς
Now a herd of many pigs was feeding at some distance from them.30Ἦν δὲ μακρὰν ἀπ’ αὐτῶν ἀγέλη χοίρων πολλῶν βοσκομένη
And the demons begged him, saying, “If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs.”31οἱ δὲ δαίμονες παρεκάλουν αὐτὸν λέγοντες Εἰ ἐκβάλλεις ἡμᾶς ἀπόστειλον ἡμᾶς εἰς τὴν ἀγέλην τῶν χοίρων
And he said to them, “Go.” So they came out and went into the pigs, and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the waters.32Καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ὑπάγετε οἱ δὲ ἐξελθόντες ἀπῆλθον εἰς τοὺς χοίρους καὶ ἰδοὺ ὥρμησεν πᾶσα ἀγέλη κατὰ τοῦ κρημνοῦ εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ ἀπέθανον ἐν τοῖς ὕδασιν
The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, especially what had happened to the demon-possessed men.33Οἱ δὲ βόσκοντες ἔφυγον καὶ ἀπελθόντες εἰς τὴν πόλιν ἀπήγγειλαν πάντα καὶ τὰ τῶν δαιμονιζομένων
And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus, and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their region.34καὶ ἰδοὺ πᾶσα πόλις ἐξῆλθεν εἰς ὑπάντησιν τῷ Ἰησοῦ καὶ ἰδόντες αὐτὸν παρεκάλεσαν ὅπως μεταβῇ ἀπὸ τῶν ὁρίων αὐτῶν
