Therefore, be imitators of God as dearly loved children1Γίνεσθε οὖν μιμηταὶ τοῦ Θεοῦ ὡς τέκνα ἀγαπητά
and live in love, just as Christ also loved us and gave himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.2καὶ περιπατεῖτε ἐν ἀγάπῃ καθὼς καὶ Χριστὸς ἠγάπησεν ἡμᾶς* καὶ παρέδωκεν ἑαυτὸν ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν προσφορὰν καὶ θυσίαν τῷ Θεῷ εἰς ὀσμὴν εὐωδίας
But among you there must not be either sexual immorality, impurity of any kind, or greed, as these are not fitting for the saints.3Πορνεία δὲ καὶ ἀκαθαρσία πᾶσα πλεονεξία μηδὲ ὀνομαζέσθω ἐν ὑμῖν καθὼς πρέπει ἁγίοις
Neither should there be vulgar speech, foolish talk, or coarse jesting--all of which are out of character--but rather thanksgiving.4καὶ αἰσχρότης καὶ μωρολογία εὐτραπελία οὐκ ἀνῆκεν ἀλλὰ μᾶλλον εὐχαριστία
For you can be confident of this one thing: that no person who is immoral, impure, or greedy (such a person is an idolater) has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Let nobody deceive you with empty words, for because of these things God's wrath comes on the sons of disobedience.6Μηδεὶς ὑμᾶς ἀπατάτω κενοῖς λόγοις διὰ ταῦτα γὰρ ἔρχεται ὀργὴ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐπὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς τῆς ἀπειθείας
Therefore do not be partakers with them,7μὴ οὖν γίνεσθε συμμέτοχοι αὐτῶν
for you were at one time darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of the light--8Ἦτε γάρ ποτε σκότος νῦν δὲ φῶς ἐν Κυρίῳ ὡς τέκνα φωτὸς περιπατεῖτε
for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth--9 γὰρ καρπὸς τοῦ φωτὸς ἐν πάσῃ ἀγαθωσύνῃ καὶ δικαιοσύνῃ καὶ ἀληθείᾳ
trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.10δοκιμάζοντες τί ἐστιν εὐάρεστον τῷ Κυρίῳ
Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.11Καὶ μὴ συνκοινωνεῖτε τοῖς ἔργοις τοῖς ἀκάρποις τοῦ σκότους μᾶλλον δὲ καὶ ἐλέγχετε
For the things they do in secret are shameful even to mention.12τὰ γὰρ κρυφῇ γινόμενα ὑπ’ αὐτῶν αἰσχρόν ἐστιν καὶ λέγειν
But all things being exposed by the light are made evident.13τὰ δὲ πάντα ἐλεγχόμενα ὑπὸ τοῦ φωτὸς φανεροῦται πᾶν γὰρ τὸ φανερούμενον φῶς ἐστιν
For everything made evident is light, and for this reason it says: "Awake, O sleeper! Rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you!" 14διὸ λέγει Ἔγειρε καθεύδων καὶ ἀνάστα ἐκ τῶν νεκρῶν καὶ ἐπιφαύσει σοι Χριστός
Therefore be very careful how you live--not as unwise but as wise,15Βλέπετε οὖν ἀκριβῶς πῶς περιπατεῖτε μὴ ὡς ἄσοφοι ἀλλ’ ὡς σοφοί
taking advantage of every opportunity, because the days are evil.16ἐξαγοραζόμενοι τὸν καιρόν ὅτι αἱ ἡμέραι πονηραί εἰσιν
For this reason do not be foolish, but be wise by understanding what the Lord's will is.17διὰ τοῦτο μὴ γίνεσθε ἄφρονες ἀλλὰ συνίετε τί τὸ θέλημα τοῦ Κυρίου
And do not get drunk with wine, which is debauchery, but be filled by the Spirit,18καὶ μὴ μεθύσκεσθε οἴνῳ ἐν ἐστιν ἀσωτία ἀλλὰ πληροῦσθε ἐν Πνεύματι
speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing and making music in your hearts to the Lord,19λαλοῦντες ἑαυτοῖς [ἐν] ψαλμοῖς καὶ ὕμνοις καὶ ᾠδαῖς πνευματικαῖς ᾄδοντες καὶ ψάλλοντες τῇ καρδίᾳ ὑμῶν τῷ Κυρίῳ
always giving thanks to God the Father for each other in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,20εὐχαριστοῦντες πάντοτε ὑπὲρ πάντων ἐν ὀνόματι τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τῷ Θεῷ καὶ Πατρί
and submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ. 21Ὑποτασσόμενοι ἀλλήλοις ἐν φόβῳ Χριστοῦ
Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord,22Αἱ γυναῖκες τοῖς ἰδίοις ἀνδράσιν ὡς τῷ Κυρίῳ
because the husband is the head of the wife as also Christ is the head of the church--he himself being the savior of the body.23ὅτι ἀνήρ ἐστιν κεφαλὴ τῆς γυναικὸς ὡς καὶ Χριστὸς κεφαλὴ τῆς ἐκκλησίας αὐτὸς σωτὴρ τοῦ σώματος
But as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.24ἀλλὰ ὡς ἐκκλησία ὑποτάσσεται τῷ Χριστῷ οὕτως καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες τοῖς ἀνδράσιν ἐν παντί
Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave himself for her25Οἱ ἄνδρες ἀγαπᾶτε τὰς γυναῖκας καθὼς καὶ Χριστὸς ἠγάπησεν τὴν ἐκκλησίαν καὶ ἑαυτὸν παρέδωκεν ὑπὲρ αὐτῆς
to sanctify her by cleansing her with the washing of the water by the word,26ἵνα αὐτὴν ἁγιάσῃ καθαρίσας τῷ λουτρῷ τοῦ ὕδατος ἐν ῥήματι
so that he may present the church to himself as glorious--not having a stain or wrinkle, or any such blemish, but holy and blameless.27ἵνα παραστήσῃ αὐτὸς ἑαυτῷ ἔνδοξον τὴν ἐκκλησίαν μὴ ἔχουσαν σπίλον ῥυτίδα τι τῶν τοιούτων ἀλλ’ ἵνα ἁγία καὶ ἄμωμος
In the same way husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.28Οὕτως ὀφείλουσιν καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες ἀγαπᾶν τὰς ἑαυτῶν γυναῖκας ὡς τὰ ἑαυτῶν σώματα ἀγαπῶν τὴν ἑαυτοῦ γυναῖκα ἑαυτὸν ἀγαπᾷ
For no one has ever hated his own body but he feeds it and takes care of it, just as Christ also does the church,29οὐδεὶς γάρ ποτε τὴν ἑαυτοῦ σάρκα ἐμίσησεν ἀλλὰ ἐκτρέφει καὶ θάλπει αὐτήν καθὼς καὶ Χριστὸς τὴν ἐκκλησίαν
for we are members of his body.30ὅτι μέλη ἐσμὲν τοῦ σώματος αὐτοῦ ⧼ἐκ τῆς σαρκὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκ τῶν ὀστέων αὐτοῦ⧽
For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and will be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.
This mystery is great--but I am actually speaking with reference to Christ and the church.32τὸ μυστήριον τοῦτο μέγα ἐστίν ἐγὼ δὲ λέγω εἰς Χριστὸν καὶ εἰς τὴν ἐκκλησίαν
Nevertheless, each one of you must also love his own wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
