I Will Sing of His Love Forever

מַ֝שְׂכִּ֗יל (A Maskil) לְאֵיתָ֥ן (of Ethan) הָֽאֶזְרָחִֽי׃ (the Ezrahite).

חַֽסְדֵ֣י (Of the loving devotion) יְ֭הוָה (of YHWH) עוֹלָ֣ם (forever) 1אָשִׁ֑ירָה (I will sing);

לְדֹ֥ר (to generation) וָדֹ֓ר׀ (and generation) אוֹדִ֖יעַ (I will make known) אֱמוּנָתְךָ֣ (Your faithfulness) בְּפִֽי׃ (with my mouth).

2  כִּֽי־ (For) אָמַ֗רְתִּי (I have said), ע֭וֹלָם (Forever) חֶ֣סֶד (loving devotion) יִבָּנֶ֑ה (is built up);

שָׁמַ֓יִם׀ (the heavens)— תָּכִ֖ן (You establish) אֱמוּנָתְךָ֣ (Your faithfulness) בָהֶֽם׃ (in them).

3  כָּרַ֣תִּֽי (I have cut) בְ֭רִית (a covenant) לִבְחִירִ֑י (with My chosen one),

נִ֝שְׁבַּ֗עְתִּי (I have sworn) לְדָוִ֥ד (to David) עַבְדִּֽי׃ (My servant):

4  עַד־ (Even to) ע֭וֹלָם (forever) אָכִ֣ין (I will establish) זַרְעֶ֑ךָ (Your seed),

וּבָנִ֨יתִי (and build up) לְדֹר־ (for generation) וָד֖וֹר (and generation) כִּסְאֲךָ֣ (your throne).

סֶֽלָה׃ (Selah)

5  וְי֘וֹד֤וּ (and will praise) שָׁמַ֣יִם (the heavens) פִּלְאֲךָ֣ (Your wonders), יְהוָ֑ה (O YHWH);

אַף־ (even) אֱ֝מֽוּנָתְךָ֗ (Your faithfulness) בִּקְהַ֥ל (in the assembly) קְדֹשִֽׁים׃ (of the holy ones).

6  כִּ֤י (For) מִ֣י (who) בַ֭שַּׁחַק (in the heavens) יַעֲרֹ֣ךְ (can be compared) לַיהוָ֑ה (to YHWH),

יִדְמֶ֥ה (likened) לַ֝יהוָ֗ה (to YHWH) בִּבְנֵ֥י (among the sons) אֵלִים׃ (of the mighty)?

7  אֵ֣ל (God) נַ֭עֲרָץ (is to be feared) בְּסוֹד־ (in the council) קְדֹשִׁ֣ים (of the holy ones) רַבָּ֑ה (greatly),

וְ֝נוֹרָ֗א (and to be revered) עַל־ (by) כָּל־ (all those) סְבִיבָֽיו׃ (surrounding Him).

8  יְהוָ֤ה׀ (O YHWH) אֱלֹ֘הֵ֤י (God) צְבָא֗וֹת (of Hosts),

מִֽי־ (who is) כָֽמ֖וֹךָ (like You), חֲסִ֥ין׀ (O mighty) יָ֑הּ (YAH)?

וֶ֝אֱמֽוּנָתְךָ֗ (And Your faithfulness) סְבִיבוֹתֶֽיךָ׃ (surrounds You).

9  אַתָּ֣ה (You) מ֭וֹשֵׁל (rule) בְּגֵא֣וּת (over the pride) הַיָּ֑ם (of the sea);

בְּשׂ֥וֹא (mount up) גַ֝לָּ֗יו (its waves)— אַתָּ֥ה (and You) תְשַׁבְּחֵֽם׃ (still them).

10  אַתָּ֤ה (You) דִכִּ֣אתָ (crushed) כֶחָלָ֣ל (as one slain) רָ֑הַב (Rahab);

בִּזְר֥וֹעַ (with the arm) עֻ֝זְּךָ֗ (of Your strength) פִּזַּ֥רְתָּ (You scattered) אוֹיְבֶֽיךָ׃ (Your enemies).

11  לְךָ֣ (To You) שָׁ֭מַיִם (are the heavens), אַף־ (also) לְךָ֥ (is unto You) אָ֑רֶץ (belongs the earth);

תֵּבֵ֥ל (the world) וּ֝מְלֹאָ֗הּ (and its fullness)— אַתָּ֥ה (You) יְסַדְתָּֽם׃ (have founded them).

12  צָפ֣וֹן (The north) וְ֭יָמִין (and the south), אַתָּ֣ה (You) בְרָאתָ֑ם (have created them);

תָּב֥וֹר (Tabor) וְ֝חֶרְמ֗וֹן (and Hermon) בְּשִׁמְךָ֥ (in Your name) יְרַנֵּֽנוּ׃ (ring out praise).

13  לְךָ֣ (Unto You is) זְ֭רוֹעַ (an arm) עִם־ (with) גְּבוּרָ֑ה (might); תָּעֹ֥ז (strong is) יָ֝דְךָ֗ (Your hand),

תָּר֥וּם (high is) יְמִינֶֽךָ׃ (Your right hand).

14  צֶ֣דֶק (Righteousness) וּ֭מִשְׁפָּט (and justice are) מְכ֣וֹן (the foundation) כִּסְאֶ֑ךָ (of Your throne);

חֶ֥סֶד (loving devotion) וֶ֝אֱמֶ֗ת (and faithfulness) יְֽקַדְּמ֥וּ (go before) פָנֶֽיךָ׃ (Your face).

15  אַשְׁרֵ֣י (Blessed are) הָ֭עָם (the people) יוֹדְעֵ֣י (knowing) תְרוּעָ֑ה (the joyful sound);

יְ֝הוָ֗ה (O YHWH), בְּֽאוֹר־ (in the light) פָּנֶ֥יךָ (of Your face) יְהַלֵּכֽוּן׃ (they walk).

16  בְּ֭שִׁמְךָ (In Your name) יְגִיל֣וּן (they rejoice) כָּל־ (all) הַיּ֑וֹם (the day),

וּבְצִדְקָתְךָ֥ (and in Your righteousness) יָרֽוּמוּ׃ (they are lifted high).

17  כִּֽי־ (For) תִפְאֶ֣רֶת (the splendor) עֻזָּ֣מוֹ (of their strength) אָ֑תָּה (You are),

וּ֝בִרְצֹנְךָ֗ (and by Your favor) תָּרִים (is raised high) קַרְנֵֽנוּ׃ (our horn).

18  כִּ֣י (For) לַֽ֭יהוָה (unto YHWH is) מָֽגִנֵּ֑נוּ (our shield),

וְלִקְד֖וֹשׁ (and unto the Holy One) יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל (of Israel) מַלְכֵּֽנוּ׃ (our king).

19  אָ֤ז (Once before) דִּבַּ֥רְתָּֽ־ (You spoke) בְחָ֡זוֹן (in a vision)

לַֽחֲסִידֶ֗יךָ (to Your holy ones) וַתֹּ֗אמֶר (and said):

שִׁוִּ֣יתִי (I have given) עֵ֭זֶר (help) עַל־ (to) גִּבּ֑וֹר (a mighty one);

הֲרִימ֖וֹתִי (I have exalted) בָח֣וּר (one chosen) מֵעָֽם׃ (from the people).

20  מָ֭צָאתִי (I have found) דָּוִ֣ד (David) עַבְדִּ֑י (My servant);

בְּשֶׁ֖מֶן (and with the oil) קָדְשִׁ֣י (of My holiness) מְשַׁחְתִּֽיו׃ (I anointed him),

21  אֲשֶׁ֣ר (whom) יָ֭דִי (My hand) תִּכּ֣וֹן (is established) עִמּ֑וֹ (with);

אַף־ (also) זְרוֹעִ֥י (My arm) תְאַמְּצֶֽנּוּ׃ (will strengthen him).

22  לֹֽא־ (Not) יַשִּׁ֣א (will exact tribute) אוֹיֵ֣ב (the enemy) בּ֑וֹ (from him)

וּבֶן־ (and a son) עַ֝וְלָ֗ה (of wickedness) לֹ֣א (not) יְעַנֶּֽנּוּ׃ (shall afflict him).

23  וְכַתּוֹתִ֣י (And I will crush) מִפָּנָ֣יו (before his face) צָרָ֑יו (his foes),

וּמְשַׂנְאָ֥יו (and those hating him) אֶגּֽוֹף׃ (I will strike).

24  וֶֽאֶֽמוּנָתִ֣י (And My faithfulness) וְחַסְדִּ֣י (and My loving devotion) עִמּ֑וֹ (are with him),

וּ֝בִשְׁמִ֗י (and in My name) תָּר֥וּם (will be exalted) קַרְנֽוֹ׃ (his horn).

25  וְשַׂמְתִּ֣י (And I will set) בַיָּ֣ם (over the sea) יָד֑וֹ (his hand),

וּֽבַנְּהָר֥וֹת (over the rivers) יְמִינֽוֹ׃ (his right hand).

26  ה֣וּא (He) יִ֭קְרָאֵנִי (will call to Me), אָ֣בִי (My Father) אָ֑תָּה (You are),

אֵ֝לִ֗י (my God), וְצ֣וּר (and the Rock) יְשׁוּעָתִֽי׃ (of my salvation).

27  אַף־ (And also) אָ֭נִי (I) בְּכ֣וֹר (firstborn) אֶתְּנֵ֑הוּ (appoint him),

עֶ֝לְי֗וֹן (the highest) לְמַלְכֵי־ (of the kings) אָֽרֶץ׃ (of the earth).

28  לְ֭עוֹלָ֗ם (Forever) אֶשְׁמוֹר (I will keep) ל֣וֹ (for him) חַסְדִּ֑י (My loving devotion),

וּ֝בְרִיתִ֗י (and My covenant) נֶאֱמֶ֥נֶת (will stand fast) לֽוֹ׃ (for him).

29  וְשַׂמְתִּ֣י (And I will establish) לָעַ֣ד (forever) זַרְע֑וֹ (His seed),

וְ֝כִסְא֗וֹ (and his throne) כִּימֵ֥י (like the days) שָׁמָֽיִם׃ (of the heavens).

30  אִם־ (If) יַֽעַזְב֣וּ (should abandon) בָ֭נָיו (his sons) תּוֹרָתִ֑י (My instruction),

וּ֝בְמִשְׁפָּטַ֗י (and in My ordinances) לֹ֣א (not) יֵלֵכֽוּן׃ (they walk).

31  אִם־ (If) חֻקֹּתַ֥י (My statutes) יְחַלֵּ֑לוּ (they violate)

וּ֝מִצְוֺתַ֗י (and My commandments) לֹ֣א (not) יִשְׁמֹֽרוּ׃ (do they keep),

32  וּפָקַדְתִּ֣י (and I will attend) בְשֵׁ֣בֶט (with the rod) פִּשְׁעָ֑ם (to their transgression),

וּבִנְגָעִ֥ים (and with stripes) עֲוֺנָֽם׃ (to their iniquity).

33  וְ֭חַסְדִּי (And My loving devotion) לֹֽא־ (not) אָפִ֣יר (I will break off) מֵֽעִמּ֑וֹ (from him),

וְלֹֽא־ (and not) אֲ֝שַׁקֵּ֗ר (will I be false) בֶּאֱמוּנָתִֽי׃ (in My faithfulness).

34  לֹא־ (Not) אֲחַלֵּ֥ל (will I violate) בְּרִיתִ֑י (My covenant),

וּמוֹצָ֥א (and a declaration) שְׂ֝פָתַ֗י (of My lips) לֹ֣א (not) אֲשַׁנֶּֽה׃ (will I change).

35  אַ֭חַת (Once) נִשְׁבַּ֣עְתִּי (I have sworn) בְקָדְשִׁ֑י (by My holiness)

אִֽם־ (not) לְדָוִ֥ד (to David) אֲכַזֵּֽב׃ (I will lie).

36  זַ֭רְעוֹ (His seed) לְעוֹלָ֣ם (forever) יִהְיֶ֑ה (it shall be),

וְכִסְא֖וֹ (and his throne) כַשֶּׁ֣מֶשׁ (like the sun) נֶגְדִּֽי׃ (before Me).

37  כְּ֭יָרֵחַ (Like the moon) יִכּ֣וֹן (It will be established) עוֹלָ֑ם (forever),

וְעֵ֥ד (and as the witness) בַּ֝שַּׁ֗חַק (in the sky) נֶאֱמָ֥ן (faithful).

סֶֽלָה׃ (Selah)

38  וְאַתָּ֣ה (and You) זָ֭נַחְתָּ (have cast away) וַתִּמְאָ֑ס (and rejected);

הִ֝תְעַבַּ֗רְתָּ (You have been enraged) עִם־ (with) מְשִׁיחֶֽךָ׃ (Your anointed).

39  נֵ֭אַרְתָּה (You have renounced) בְּרִ֣ית (the covenant) עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ (of Your servant);

חִלַּ֖לְתָּ (You have defiled) לָאָ֣רֶץ (on the ground) נִזְרֽוֹ׃ (his diadem).

40  פָּרַ֥צְתָּ (You have broken down) כָל־ (all) גְּדֵרֹתָ֑יו (his walls);

שַׂ֖מְתָּ (You have set) מִבְצָרָ֣יו (his strongholds) מְחִתָּה׃ (to ruin).

41  שַׁ֭סֻּהוּ (Plunder him) כָּל־ (all) עֹ֣בְרֵי (passing by) דָ֑רֶךְ (the way);

הָיָ֥ה (he has become) חֶ֝רְפָּ֗ה (a reproach) לִשְׁכֵנָֽיו׃ (to his neighbors).

42  הֲ֭רִימוֹתָ (You have raised high) יְמִ֣ין (the right hand) צָרָ֑יו (of his adversaries);

הִ֝שְׂמַ֗חְתָּ (You have made glad) כָּל־ (all) אוֹיְבָֽיו׃ (of his enemies).

43  אַף־ (Also) תָּ֭שִׁיב (You have turned back) צ֣וּר (the sharpness) חַרְבּ֑וֹ (of his sword),

וְלֹ֥א (and not) הֲ֝קֵימֹת֗וֹ (have You made it stand) בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ (in the battle).

44  הִשְׁבַּ֥תָּ (You have made cease) מִטְּהָר֑וֹ (his brightness),

וְ֝כִסְא֗וֹ (and his throne) לָאָ֥רֶץ (to the ground) מִגַּֽרְתָּה׃ (You have cast down).

45  הִ֭קְצַרְתָּ (You have shortened) יְמֵ֣י (the days) עֲלוּמָ֑יו (of his youth);

הֶֽעֱטִ֨יתָ (You have covered) עָלָ֖יו (over him) בּוּשָׁ֣ה (with shame).

סֶֽלָה׃ (Selah)

46  עַד־ (until) מָ֣ה (when), יְ֭הוָה (O YHWH)?

תִּסָּתֵ֣ר (Will You hide Yourself) לָנֶ֑צַח (forever)?

תִּבְעַ֖ר (Will keep burning) כְּמוֹ־ (like) אֵ֣שׁ (fire) חֲמָתֶֽךָ׃ (Your rage)?

47  זְכָר־ (Remember) אֲנִ֥י (me) מֶה־ (how short) חָ֑לֶד (a lifetime)?

עַל־ (For) מַה־ (what) שָּׁ֝֗וְא (emptiness) בָּרָ֥אתָ (You have created) כָל־ (all) בְּנֵי־ (the sons) אָדָֽם׃ (of men)!

48  מִ֤י (What) גֶ֣בֶר (man) יִֽ֭חְיֶה (can live) וְלֹ֣א (and not) יִרְאֶה־ (see) מָּ֑וֶת (death)?

יְמַלֵּ֨ט (Can he deliver) נַפְשׁ֖וֹ (his soul) מִיַּד־ (from the hand) שְׁא֣וֹל (of Sheol)?

סֶֽלָה׃ (Selah)

49  אַיֵּ֤ה׀ (where) חֲסָדֶ֖יךָ (is Your loving devotion) הָרִאשֹׁנִ֥ים׀ (of old), אֲדֹנָ֑י (O Lord),

נִשְׁבַּ֥עְתָּ (which You swore) לְ֝דָוִ֗ד (of David) בֶּאֱמוּנָתֶֽךָ׃ (in Your faithfulness)?

50  זְכֹ֣ר (Remember), אֲ֭דֹנָי (O Lord), חֶרְפַּ֣ת (the reproach) עֲבָדֶ֑יךָ (of Your servants)—

שְׂאֵתִ֥י (I bear) בְ֝חֵיקִ֗י (in my bosom) כָּל־ (from all) רַבִּ֥ים (the many) עַמִּֽים׃ (peoples)—

51  אֲשֶׁ֤ר (with which) חֵרְפ֖וּ (have taunted) אוֹיְבֶ֥יךָ׀ (Your enemies), יְהוָ֑ה (O YHWH),

אֲשֶׁ֥ר (with which) חֵ֝רְפ֗וּ (they have reproached) עִקְּב֥וֹת (the footsteps) מְשִׁיחֶֽךָ׃ (of Your anointed one).

52  בָּר֖וּךְ (Blessed be) יְהוָ֥ה (YHWH) לְ֝עוֹלָ֗ם (forever)!

אָ֘מֵ֥ן׀ (Amen) וְאָמֵֽן׃ (and Amen).
