Psalms 90–106

From Everlasting to Everlasting

תְּפִלָּה֮ (A Prayer) לְמֹשֶׁ֪ה (of Moses) אִֽישׁ־ (the man) הָאֱלֹ֫הִ֥ים (of God).

1אֲ‍ֽדֹנָ֗י (Lord), מָע֣וֹן (a dwelling place) אַ֭תָּה (You) הָיִ֥יתָ (have been) לָּ֗נוּ (for us)

בְּדֹ֣ר (in generation) וָדֹֽר׃ (and generation).

2  בְּטֶ֤רֶם׀ (In the time before) הָ֘רִ֤ים (the mountains) יֻלָּ֗דוּ (were brought forth)

וַתְּח֣וֹלֵֽל (or You formed) אֶ֣רֶץ (the earth) וְתֵבֵ֑ל (and the world),

וּֽמֵעוֹלָ֥ם (and from forever) עַד־ (even to) ע֝וֹלָ֗ם (forever)

אַתָּ֥ה (You are) אֵֽל׃ (God).

3  תָּשֵׁ֣ב (You return) אֱ֭נוֹשׁ (man) עַד־ (to) דַּכָּ֑א (dust)

וַ֝תֹּ֗אמֶר (and say), שׁ֣וּבוּ (Return), בְנֵי־ (O sons) אָדָֽם׃ (of men).

4  כִּ֤י (For) אֶ֪לֶף (a thousand) שָׁנִ֡ים (years) בְּֽעֵינֶ֗יךָ (in your eyes)

כְּי֣וֹם (are like a day) אֶ֭תְמוֹל (past) כִּ֣י (that) יַעֲבֹ֑ר (passes),

וְאַשְׁמוּרָ֥ה (or a watch) בַלָּֽיְלָה׃ (in the night).

5  זְ֭רַמְתָּם (You sweep them away);

שֵׁנָ֣ה (in their sleep) יִהְי֑וּ (and they become); בַּ֝בֹּ֗קֶר (in the morning) כֶּחָצִ֥יר (like the grass) יַחֲלֹֽף׃ (that sprouts up).

6  בַּ֭בֹּקֶר (In the morning) יָצִ֣יץ (it blossoms) וְחָלָ֑ף (and flourishes);

לָ֝עֶ֗רֶב (in the evening) יְמוֹלֵ֥ל (it is cut down) וְיָבֵֽשׁ׃ (and withers).

7  כִּֽי־ (Indeed) כָלִ֥ינוּ (we are consumed) בְאַפֶּ֑ךָ (by Your anger),

וּֽבַחֲמָתְךָ֥ (and by Your wrath) נִבְהָֽלְנוּ׃ (we are terrified).

8  שַׁתָּ (You have set) עֲוֺנֹתֵ֣ינוּ (our iniquities) לְנֶגְדֶּ֑ךָ (before You),

עֲ֝לֻמֵ֗נוּ (our hidden things) לִמְא֥וֹר (in the light) פָּנֶֽיךָ׃ (of Your face).

9  כִּ֣י (For) כָל־ (all) יָ֭מֵינוּ (our days) פָּנ֣וּ (decline) בְעֶבְרָתֶ֑ךָ (in Your fury);

כִּלִּ֖ינוּ (we finish) שָׁנֵ֣ינוּ (our years) כְמוֹ־ (as) הֶֽגֶה׃ (a sigh).

10  יְמֵֽי־ (The days) שְׁנוֹתֵ֨ינוּ (of our years) בָהֶ֥ם (in them) שִׁבְעִ֪ים (are seventy) שָׁנָ֡ה (years),

וְאִ֤ם (or if) בִּגְבוּרֹ֨ת׀ (by strength) שְׁמ֘וֹנִ֤ים (eighty) שָׁנָ֗ה (years),

וְ֭רָהְבָּם (and their pride) עָמָ֣ל (is toil) וָאָ֑וֶן (and trouble),

כִּי־ (for) גָ֥ז (it is cut off) חִ֝֗ישׁ (soon), וַנָּעֻֽפָה׃ (and we fly away).

11  מִֽי־ (Who) י֭וֹדֵעַ (knows) עֹ֣ז (the power) אַפֶּ֑ךָ (of Your anger)?

וּ֝כְיִרְאָתְךָ֗ (For as the fear of You) עֶבְרָתֶֽךָ׃ (is Your wrath).

12  לִמְנ֣וֹת (To number) יָ֭מֵינוּ (our days) כֵּ֣ן (so) הוֹדַ֑ע (teach us),

וְ֝נָבִ֗א (that we may bring in) לְבַ֣ב (a heart) חָכְמָֽה׃ (of wisdom).

13  שׁוּבָ֣ה (Turn back), יְ֭הוָה (O YHWH)! עַד־ (Until) מָתָ֑י (when)?

וְ֝הִנָּחֵ֗ם (And have compassion) עַל־ (on) עֲבָדֶֽיךָ׃ (Your servants).

14  שַׂבְּעֵ֣נוּ (Satisfy us) בַבֹּ֣קֶר (in the morning) חַסְדֶּ֑ךָ (with Your loving devotion),

וּֽנְרַנְּנָ֥ה (that we may sing for joy) וְ֝נִשְׂמְחָ֗ה (and be glad) בְּכָל־ (in all) יָמֵֽינוּ׃ (our days).

15  שַׂ֭מְּחֵנוּ (Let us be glad) כִּימ֣וֹת (according to the days) עִנִּיתָ֑נוּ (You have afflicted us),

שְׁ֝נ֗וֹת (the years) רָאִ֥ינוּ (we have seen) רָעָֽה׃ (evil).

16  יֵרָאֶ֣ה (Let be shown) אֶל־ (to) עֲבָדֶ֣יךָ (Your servants) פָעֳלֶ֑ךָ (Your work),

וַ֝הֲדָרְךָ֗ (and Your splendor) עַל־ (upon) בְּנֵיהֶֽם׃ (their sons).

17  וִיהִ֤י׀ (And let come to be) נֹ֤עַם (and may the favor) אֲדֹנָ֥י (of YHWH) אֱלֹהֵ֗ינוּ (our God) עָ֫לֵ֥ינוּ (upon us),

וּמַעֲשֵׂ֣ה (and the work) יָ֭דֵינוּ (of our hands) כּוֹנְנָ֥ה (may You support) עָלֵ֑ינוּ (upon us),

וּֽמַעֲשֵׂ֥ה (and the work) יָ֝דֵ֗ינוּ (of our hands) כּוֹנְנֵֽהוּ׃ (establish).
