Nebuchadnezzar’s Troubling Dream

1  וּבִשְׁנַ֣ת (And in the year) שְׁתַּ֗יִם (second) לְמַלְכוּת֙ (of the reign) נְבֻֽכַדְנֶצַּ֔ר (of Nebuchadnezzar) חָלַ֥ם (dreamed) נְבֻֽכַדְנֶצַּ֖ר (Nebuchadnezzar) חֲלֹמ֑וֹת (dreams), וַתִּתְפָּ֣עֶם (and was troubled), רוּח֔וֹ (his spirit) וּשְׁנָת֖וֹ (that his sleep) נִהְיְתָ֥ה (left) עָלָֽיו׃ (him). 2  וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (And commanded) הַ֠מֶּלֶךְ (the king) לִקְרֹ֨א (to call) לַֽחַרְטֻמִּ֜ים (the magicians), וְלָֽאַשָּׁפִ֗ים (and the enchanters), וְלַֽמְכַשְּׁפִים֙ (and the sorcerers), וְלַכַּשְׂדִּ֔ים (and the astrologers), לְהַגִּ֥יד (to tell) לַמֶּ֖לֶךְ (to the king) חֲלֹמֹתָ֑יו (his dreams). וַיָּבֹ֕אוּ (And they came) וַיַּֽעַמְד֖וּ (and stood) לִפְנֵ֥י (before) הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ (the king). 3  וַיֹּ֧אמֶר (And said) לָהֶ֛ם (to them) הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ (the king) חֲל֣וֹם (A dream), חָלָ֑מְתִּי (I have dreamed) וַתִּפָּ֣עֶם (and is anxious) רוּחִ֔י (my spirit) לָדַ֖עַת (to know) אֶֽת־ (-) הַחֲלֽוֹם׃ (the dream).

4  וַֽיְדַבְּר֧וּ (And spoke) הַכַּשְׂדִּ֛ים (The astrologers) לַמֶּ֖לֶךְ (to the king) אֲרָמִ֑ית (in Aramaic), מַלְכָּא֙ (O king), לְעָלְמִ֣ין (forever)! חֱיִ֔י (May you live) אֱמַ֥ר (Tell) חֶלְמָ֛א (the dream), לְעַבְדַּיִךְ (to your servants) וּפִשְׁרָ֥א (and the interpretation) נְחַוֵּֽא׃ (we will show).

5  עָנֵ֤ה (Answered) מַלְכָּא֙ (the king) וְאָמַ֣ר (and said) לְכַשְׂדָּיֵא (to the astrologers), מִלְּתָ֖א (The word) מִנִּ֣י (from me) אַזְדָּ֑א (is firm) הֵ֣ן (if) לָ֤א (not) תְהֽוֹדְעוּנַּ֙נִי֙ (you⁺ do make known to me) חֶלְמָ֣א (the dream), וּפִשְׁרֵ֔הּ (and its interpretation) הַדָּמִין֙ (into limbs), תִּתְעַבְד֔וּן (you⁺ shall be cut) וּבָתֵּיכ֖וֹן (and your houses) נְוָלִ֥י (a dunghill) יִתְּשָׂמֽוּן׃ (shall be made). 6  וְהֵ֨ן (And if) חֶלְמָ֤א (the dream), וּפִשְׁרֵהּ֙ (and its interpretation) תְּֽהַחֲוֺ֔ן (you⁺ show) מַתְּנָ֤ן (gifts) וּנְבִזְבָּה֙ (and rewards) וִיקָ֣ר (and honor); שַׂגִּ֔יא (great) תְּקַבְּל֖וּן (you⁺ will receive) מִן־ (from) קֳדָמָ֑י (to me) לָהֵ֕ן (therefore) חֶלְמָ֥א (the dream), וּפִשְׁרֵ֖הּ (and its interpretation) הַחֲוֺֽנִי׃ (show me).

7  עֲנ֥וֹ (They answered) תִנְיָנ֖וּת (again) וְאָמְרִ֑ין (and said), מַלְכָּ֕א (May the king) חֶלְמָ֛א (the dream), יֵאמַ֥ר (tell) לְעַבְד֖וֹהִי (to his servants) וּפִשְׁרָ֥ה (and its interpretation) נְהַחֲוֵֽה׃ (we will show).

8  עָנֵ֤ה (Answered) מַלְכָּא֙ (the king) וְאָמַ֔ר (and said), מִן־ (For) יַצִּיב֙ (sure) יָדַ֣ע (know) אֲנָ֔ה (I) דִּ֥י (that) עִדָּנָ֖א (time), אַנְתּ֣וּן (you⁺) זָבְנִ֑ין (are buying) כָּל־ (all) קֳבֵל֙ (because) דִּ֣י (-) חֲזֵית֔וֹן (you⁺ see) דִּ֥י (that) אַזְדָּ֖א (is gone) מִנִּ֥י (from me) מִלְּתָֽא׃ (the word). 9  דִּ֣י (That) הֵן־ (if) חֶלְמָא֩ (the dream), לָ֨א (not) תְהֽוֹדְעֻנַּ֜נִי (you⁺ do make known to me) חֲדָה־ (one) הִ֣יא (it is) דָֽתְכ֗וֹן (decree for you⁺) וּמִלָּ֨ה (and words) כִדְבָ֤ה (lying) וּשְׁחִיתָה֙ (and corrupt) הַזְמִנְתּוּן (you⁺ have agreed) לְמֵאמַ֣ר (to speak) קָֽדָמַ֔י (before me) עַ֛ד (until) דִּ֥י (-) עִדָּנָ֖א (the times) יִשְׁתַּנֵּ֑א (should change); לָהֵ֗ן (therefore) חֶלְמָא֙ (the dream), אֱמַ֣רוּ (you must tell) לִ֔י (to me) וְֽאִנְדַּ֕ע (and I will know) דִּ֥י (that) פִשְׁרֵ֖הּ (its interpretation) תְּהַחֲוֻנַּֽנִי׃ (you⁺ can show me).

10  עֲנ֨וֹ (Answered) כַשְׂדָּיֵא (The astrologers) קֳדָם־ (before) מַלְכָּא֙ (the king), וְאָ֣מְרִ֔ין (and said), לָֽא־ (Not) אִיתַ֤י (is there) אֲנָשׁ֙ (a man) עַל־ (on) יַבֶּשְׁתָּ֔א (earth) דִּ֚י (who) מִלַּ֣ת (the word); מַלְכָּ֔א (of the king) יוּכַ֖ל (is able) לְהַחֲוָיָ֑ה (to show) כָּל־ (-) קֳבֵ֗ל (because) דִּ֚י (that) כָּל־ (every) מֶ֙לֶךְ֙ (king), רַ֣ב (lord), וְשַׁלִּ֔יט (or ruler), מִלָּ֤ה (a thing) כִדְנָה֙ (like this) לָ֣א (not) שְׁאֵ֔ל (has asked) לְכָל־ (from any) חַרְטֹּ֖ם (magician), וְאָשַׁ֥ף (or enchanter), וְכַשְׂדָּֽי׃ (or astrologer). 11  וּמִלְּתָ֨א (And the thing) דִֽי־ (that) מַלְכָּ֤ה (the king) שָׁאֵל֙ (is asking), יַקִּירָ֔ה (is difficult) וְאָחֳרָן֙ (and another) לָ֣א (not) אִיתַ֔י (there is) דִּ֥י (who) יְחַוִּנַּ֖הּ (can show it) קֳדָ֣ם (to) מַלְכָּ֑א (the king), לָהֵ֣ן (except) אֱלָהִ֔ין (the gods), דִּ֚י (whose) מְדָ֣רְה֔וֹן (dwelling) עִם־ (with) בִּשְׂרָ֖א (flesh) לָ֥א (not) אִיתֽוֹהִי׃ (is).

12  כָּל־ (All) קֳבֵ֣ל (because) דְּנָ֔ה (of this) מַלְכָּ֕א (the king) בְּנַ֖ס (was angry) וּקְצַ֣ף (and he became furious), שַׂגִּ֑יא (very) וַאֲמַר֙ (and he gave a command) לְה֣וֹבָדָ֔ה (to destroy) לְכֹ֖ל (all) חַכִּימֵ֥י (the wise men) בָבֶֽל׃ (of Babylon). 13  וְדָתָ֣א (And the decree) נֶפְקַ֔ת (went out) וְחַכִּֽימַיָּ֖א (and the wise men) מִֽתְקַטְּלִ֑ין (they began killing); וּבְע֛וֹ (and they sought) דָּנִיֵּ֥אל (Daniel) וְחַבְר֖וֹהִי (and his companions) לְהִתְקְטָלָֽה׃פ (to kill them).

The Dream Revealed to Daniel

14  בֵּאדַ֣יִן (Then) דָּנִיֵּ֗אל (Daniel) הֲתִיב֙ (responded) עֵטָ֣א (with counsel) וּטְעֵ֔ם (and discretion) לְאַרְי֕וֹךְ (to Arioch) רַב־ (the captain) טַבָּחַיָּ֖א (of the guard), דִּ֣י (of) מַלְכָּ֑א (the king) דִּ֚י (who) נְפַ֣ק (had gone out) לְקַטָּלָ֔ה (to kill) לְחַכִּימֵ֖י (the wise men) בָּבֶֽל׃ (of Babylon); 15  עָנֵ֣ה (he answered) וְאָמַ֗ר (and said) לְאַרְיוֹךְ֙ (to Arioch) שַׁלִּיטָ֣א (the captain), דִֽי־ (of) מַלְכָּ֔א (the king)? עַל־ (For) מָ֥ה (what reason) דָתָ֛א (is this decree) מְהַחְצְפָ֖ה (urgent) מִן־ (from) קֳדָ֣ם (-) מַלְכָּ֑א (the king)

אֱדַ֣יִן (then) מִלְּתָ֔א (the matter) הוֹדַ֥ע (made known) אַרְי֖וֹךְ (Arioch) לְדָנִיֵּֽאל׃ (to Daniel). 16  וְדָ֣נִיֵּ֔אל (And Daniel) עַ֖ל (went in), וּבְעָ֣ה (and sought) מִן־ (from) מַלְכָּ֑א (the king) דִּ֚י (that) זְמָ֣ן (time), יִנְתֵּן־ (he should give) לֵ֔הּ (to him) וּפִשְׁרָ֖א (and for the interpretation). לְהַֽחֲוָיָ֥ה (To show) לְמַלְכָּֽא׃פ (to the king).

17  אֱדַ֥יִן (Then) דָּֽנִיֵּ֖אל (Daniel) לְבַיְתֵ֣הּ (to his house), אֲזַ֑ל (went) וְ֠לַחֲנַנְיָה (and to Hananiah), מִֽישָׁאֵ֧ל (Mishael), וַעֲזַרְיָ֛ה (and Azariah), חַבְר֖וֹהִי (his companions), מִלְּתָ֥א (the matter) הוֹדַֽע׃ (he made known). 18  וְרַחֲמִ֗ין (And mercies) לְמִבְעֵא֙ (to seek) מִן־ (from) קֳדָם֙ (before) אֱלָ֣הּ (the God) שְׁמַיָּ֔א (of heaven) עַל־ (concerning) רָזָ֖ה (the secret); דְּנָ֑ה (this) דִּ֣י (so that) לָ֤א (not) יְהֹֽבְדוּן֙ (should perish) דָּנִיֵּ֣אל (Daniel) וְחַבְר֔וֹהִי (and his companions) עִם־ (with) שְׁאָ֖ר (the rest) חַכִּימֵ֥י (of the wise men) בָבֶֽל׃ (of Babylon).

19  אֱדַ֗יִן (Then) לְדָנִיֵּ֛אל (to Daniel) בְּחֶזְוָ֥א (in a vision). דִֽי־ (Which was) לֵילְיָ֖א (of the night) רָזָ֣ה (the secret) גֲלִ֑י (was revealed) אֱדַ֙יִן֙ (then) דָּֽנִיֵּ֔אל (Daniel) בָּרִ֖ךְ (blessed) לֶאֱלָ֥הּ (the God) שְׁמַיָּֽא׃ (of heaven). 20  עָנֵ֤ה (Answered) דָֽנִיֵּאל֙ (Daniel) וְאָמַ֔ר (and saying),

לֶהֱוֵ֨א (Let be) שְׁמֵ֤הּ (the name) דִּֽי־ (-) אֱלָהָא֙ (of God) מְבָרַ֔ךְ (blessed) מִן־ (from); עָלְמָ֖א (age) וְעַ֣ד־ (even to) עָלְמָ֑א (age)

דִּ֧י (for) חָכְמְתָ֛א (the wisdom) וּגְבוּרְתָ֖א (and might) דִּ֥י (that) לֵֽהּ־ (unto Him) הִֽיא׃ (it is).

21  וְ֠הוּא (And He is) מְהַשְׁנֵ֤א (the One changing) עִדָּנַיָּא֙ (the times) וְזִמְנַיָּ֔א (and the seasons);

מְהַעְדֵּ֥ה (removing) מַלְכִ֖ין (kings), וּמְהָקֵ֣ים (and setting up) מַלְכִ֑ין (kings);

יָהֵ֤ב (giving) חָכְמְתָא֙ (wisdom) לְחַכִּימִ֔ין (to the wise),

וּמַנְדְּעָ֖א (and knowledge) לְיָדְעֵ֥י (to those knowing) בִינָֽה׃ (with understanding).

22  ה֛וּא (He is) גָּלֵ֥א (the One revealing) עַמִּיקָתָ֖א (deep) וּמְסַתְּרָתָ֑א (and secret things);

יָדַע֙ (knowing) מָ֣ה (what is) בַחֲשׁוֹכָ֔א (in the darkness),

וּנְהִירָא (and for the light) עִמֵּ֥הּ (with Him) שְׁרֵֽא׃ (dwells).

23  לָ֣ךְ׀ (To You) אֱלָ֣הּ (O God) אֲבָהָתִ֗י (of my fathers),

מְהוֹדֵ֤א (I give thanks) וּמְשַׁבַּח֙ (and praise You) אֲנָ֔ה (I)

דִּ֧י (for) חָכְמְתָ֛א (wisdom) וּגְבוּרְתָ֖א (and might), יְהַ֣בְתְּ (You have given)

לִ֑י (to me)

וּכְעַ֤ן (and now) הֽוֹדַעְתַּ֙נִי֙ (You have made known to me)

דִּֽי־ (what) בְעֵ֣ינָא (we asked) מִנָּ֔ךְ (of You)

דִּֽי־ (for) מִלַּ֥ת (the matter) מַלְכָּ֖א (of king)

הוֹדַעְתֶּֽנָא׃ (You have made known to us).

Daniel Interprets the Dream

24  כָּל־ (Therefore) קֳבֵ֣ל (according to) דְּנָ֗ה (this) דָּֽנִיֵּאל֙ (Daniel) עַ֣ל (went in) עַל־ (unto) אַרְי֔וֹךְ (Arioch), דִּ֚י (whom) מַנִּ֣י (had appointed) מַלְכָּ֔א (the king) לְהוֹבָדָ֖ה (to destroy) לְחַכִּימֵ֣י (the wise men) בָבֶ֑ל (of Babylon); אֲזַ֣ל׀ (he went) וְכֵ֣ן (and thus) אֲמַר־ (said) לֵ֗הּ (to him) לְחַכִּימֵ֤י (The wise men) בָבֶל֙ (of Babylon)! אַל־ (Not) תְּהוֹבֵ֔ד (should you destroy) הַעֵ֙לְנִי֙ (take me) קֳדָ֣ם (before) מַלְכָּ֔א (the king), וּפִשְׁרָ֖א (and the interpretation). לְמַלְכָּ֥א (To the king) אֲחַוֵּֽא׃ס (I will show).

25  אֱדַ֤יִן (Then) אַרְיוֹךְ֙ (Arioch) בְּהִתְבְּהָלָ֔ה (going with haste), הַנְעֵ֥ל (brought) לְדָנִיֵּ֖אל (Daniel) קֳדָ֣ם (before) מַלְכָּ֑א (the king) וְכֵ֣ן (and thus) אֲמַר־ (says) לֵ֗הּ (to him) דִּֽי־ (That) הַשְׁכַּ֤חַת (I have found) גְּבַר֙ (a man) מִן־ (from) בְּנֵ֤י (the sons) גָֽלוּתָא֙ (of the captivity) דִּ֣י (-) יְה֔וּד (of Judah), דִּ֥י (who) פִשְׁרָ֖א (the interpretation) לְמַלְכָּ֥א (to the king) יְהוֹדַֽע׃ (will show).

26  עָנֵ֤ה (Answered) מַלְכָּא֙ (the king) וְאָמַ֣ר (and said) לְדָנִיֵּ֔אל (to Daniel), דִּ֥י (whose) שְׁמֵ֖הּ (name was) בֵּלְטְשַׁאצַּ֑ר (Belteshazzar), הַאִיתַיִךְ (Are you) כָּהֵ֗ל (able) לְהוֹדָעֻתַ֛נִי (to make known to me) חֶלְמָ֥א (the dream) דִֽי־ (which) חֲזֵ֖ית (I have seen), וּפִשְׁרֵֽהּ׃ (and its interpretation).

27  עָנֵ֧ה (Answered) דָנִיֵּ֛אל (Daniel) קֳדָ֥ם (before) מַלְכָּ֖א (the king), וְאָמַ֑ר (and said), רָזָה֙ (The secret) דִּֽי־ (that) מַלְכָּ֣א (the king) שָׁאֵ֔ל (has been asking) לָ֧א (not) חַכִּימִ֣ין (the wise men) אָֽשְׁפִ֗ין (the enchanters), חַרְטֻמִּין֙ (the magicians), גָּזְרִ֔ין (and the diviners), יָכְלִ֖ין (are able) לְהַֽחֲוָיָ֥ה (to show) לְמַלְכָּֽא׃ (to the king); 28  בְּרַ֡ם (but) אִיתַ֞י (there is) אֱלָ֤הּ (a God) בִּשְׁמַיָּא֙ (in heaven) גָּלֵ֣א (revealing) רָזִ֔ין (secrets), וְהוֹדַ֗ע (and He has made known) לְמַלְכָּא֙ (to King) נְבֽוּכַדְנֶצַּ֔ר (Nebuchadnezzar) מָ֛ה (what) דִּ֥י (-) לֶהֱוֵ֖א (will come to pass) בְּאַחֲרִ֣ית (in the latter) יוֹמַיָּ֑א (days). חֶלְמָ֨ךְ (Your dream), וְחֶזְוֵ֥י (and the visions) רֵאשָׁ֛ךְ (of your head) עַֽל־ (upon) מִשְׁכְּבָ֖ךְ (your bed), דְּנָ֥ה (this); הֽוּא׃פ (it is).

29  אַ֣נְתְּה (To you), מַלְכָּ֗א (O king), רַעְיוֹנָךְ֙ (your thought) עַל־ (on) מִשְׁכְּבָ֣ךְ (your bed), סְלִ֔קוּ (came up) מָ֛ה (what) דִּ֥י (-) לֶהֱוֵ֖א (would come to be) אַחֲרֵ֣י (after) דְנָ֑ה (this); וְגָלֵ֧א (and the One revealing) רָזַיָּ֛א (secrets) הוֹדְעָ֖ךְ (has made known to you) מָה־ (what) דִ֥י (-) לֶהֱוֵֽא׃ (will come to pass). 30  וַאֲנָ֗ה (And to me), לָ֤א (it is not) בְחָכְמָה֙ (with wisdom) דִּֽי־ (that) אִיתַ֥י (is) בִּי֙ (in me) מִן־ (more than) כָּל־ (all) חַיַּיָּ֔א (the living), רָזָ֥א (that the secret) דְנָ֖ה (this) גֱּלִ֣י (has been revealed) לִ֑י (to me) לָהֵ֗ן (but) עַל־ (-) דִּבְרַת֙ (in order) דִּ֤י (that) פִשְׁרָא֙ (the interpretation) לְמַלְכָּ֣א (to the king), יְהוֹדְע֔וּן (should be made known) וְרַעְיוֹנֵ֥י (and that the thoughts) לִבְבָ֖ךְ (of your heart) תִּנְדַּֽע׃ (you may know).

31  אַ֣נְתְּה (You), מַלְכָּ֗א (O king), חָזֵ֤ה (were watching) הֲוַ֙יְתָ֙ (-), וַאֲל֨וּ (and behold) צְלֵ֥ם (an image). חַד֙ (-) שַׂגִּ֔יא (great) צַלְמָ֨א (The image), דִּכֵּ֥ן (this) רַ֛ב (great) וְזִיוֵ֥הּ (and whose splendor) יַתִּ֖יר (was excellent), קָאֵ֣ם (was standing) לְקָבְלָ֑ךְ (before you) וְרֵוֵ֖הּ (and its appearance) דְּחִֽיל׃ (was frightening). 32  ה֣וּא (This) צַלְמָ֗א (image) רֵאשֵׁהּ֙ (its head) דִּֽי־ (was of) דְהַ֣ב (of gold), טָ֔ב (fine) חֲד֥וֹהִי (its chest) וּדְרָע֖וֹהִי (and arms) דִּ֣י (of) כְסַ֑ף (silver), מְע֥וֹהִי (its belly) וְיַרְכָתֵ֖הּ (and thighs) דִּ֥י (-) נְחָֽשׁ׃ (of bronze), 33  שָׁק֖וֹהִי (its legs) דִּ֣י (-) פַרְזֶ֑ל (of iron), רַגְל֕וֹהִי (its feet) מִנְּהוֹן (part of them) דִּ֣י (of) פַרְזֶ֔ל (iron) וּמִנְּהוֹן (and part of them) דִּ֥י (of) חֲסַֽף׃ (clay).

34  חָזֵ֣ה (Looking) הֲוַ֗יְתָ (you were) עַ֠ד (until) דִּ֣י (that) הִתְגְּזֶ֤רֶת (was cut out) אֶ֙בֶן֙ (a stone) דִּי־ (but) לָ֣א (not) בִידַ֔יִן (with hands), וּמְחָ֤ת (and it struck) לְצַלְמָא֙ (the image) עַל־ (on) רַגְל֔וֹהִי (its feet) דִּ֥י (-) פַרְזְלָ֖א (of iron) וְחַסְפָּ֑א (and clay), וְהַדֵּ֖קֶת (and it shattered) הִמּֽוֹן׃ (them). 35  בֵּאדַ֣יִן (Then) דָּ֣קוּ (they were crushed) כַחֲדָ֡ה (as one), פַּרְזְלָא֩ (the iron), חַסְפָּ֨א (the clay), נְחָשָׁ֜א (the bronze), כַּסְפָּ֣א (the silver), וְדַהֲבָ֗א (and the gold), וַהֲווֹ֙ (and they became) כְּע֣וּר (like chaff) מִן־ (from) אִדְּרֵי־ (the threshing floors); קַ֔יִט (in summer) וּנְשָׂ֤א (and carried away) הִמּוֹן֙ (them), רוּחָ֔א (the wind) וְכָל־ (and any) אֲתַ֖ר (trace) לָא־ (not) הִשְׁתֲּכַ֣ח (could be found) לְה֑וֹן (of them) וְאַבְנָ֣א׀ (and stone the) דִּֽי־ (that) מְחָ֣ת (struck) לְצַלְמָ֗א (the image) הֲוָ֛ת (became) לְט֥וּר (as a mountain), רַ֖ב (great) וּמְלָ֥ת (and it filled) כָּל־ (all) אַרְעָֽא׃ (the earth).

36  דְּנָ֣ה (This is) חֶלְמָ֔א (the dream); וּפִשְׁרֵ֖הּ (and its interpretation) נֵאמַ֥ר (we will tell) קֳדָם־ (before) מַלְכָּֽא׃ (the king).

37  אַ֣נְתְּה (You are), מַלְכָּ֔א (O king), מֶ֖לֶךְ (king) מַלְכַיָּ֑א (of kings), דִּ֚י (for) אֱלָ֣הּ (the God) שְׁמַיָּ֔א (of heaven) מַלְכוּתָ֥א (the kingdom), חִסְנָ֛א (the power), וְתָקְפָּ֥א (and the strength), וִֽיקָרָ֖א (and the glory) יְהַב־ (has given) לָֽךְ׃ (to you). 38  וּבְכָל־ (And in every place). דִּ֣י (Where) דָאֲרִין (are dwelling), בְּֽנֵי־ (the sons) אֲ֠נָשָׁא (of man) חֵיוַ֨ת (or the beasts) בָּרָ֤א (of the field) וְעוֹף־ (or the birds) שְׁמַיָּא֙ (of the heavens) יְהַ֣ב (He has given them) בִּידָ֔ךְ (into your hand), וְהַשְׁלְטָ֖ךְ (and He has made you ruler) בְּכָלְּה֑וֹן (over them all) אַנְתְּה־ (You are) ה֔וּא (that) רֵאשָׁ֖ה (head) דִּ֥י (of) דַהֲבָֽא׃ (gold).

39  וּבָתְרָ֗ךְ (And after you) תְּק֛וּם (will arise) מַלְכ֥וּ (a kingdom) אָחֳרִ֖י (another) אֲרַ֣עא (inferior) מִנָּ֑ךְ (to you)

וּמַלְכ֨וּ (and a kingdom) תְלִיתָיָא (third) אָחֳרִי֙ (another) דִּ֣י (of) נְחָשָׁ֔א (bronze), דִּ֥י (which) תִשְׁלַ֖ט (shall rule) בְּכָל־ (over all) אַרְעָֽא׃ (the earth).

40  וּמַלְכוּ֙ (And a kingdom) רְבִיעָיָה (fourth) תֶּהֱוֵ֥א (there will be) תַקִּיפָ֖ה (strong) כְּפַרְזְלָ֑א (as iron); כָּל־ (-) קֳבֵ֗ל (because) דִּ֤י (that) פַרְזְלָא֙ (iron) מְהַדֵּ֤ק (breaks in pieces) וְחָשֵׁל֙ (and shatters) כֹּ֔לָּא (everything) וּֽכְפַרְזְלָ֛א (and like iron) דִּֽי־ (that) מְרָעַ֥ע (crushes) כָּל־ (all) אִלֵּ֖ין (these), תַּדִּ֥ק (it will break in pieces) וְתֵרֹֽעַ׃ (and it will crush). 41  וְדִֽי־ (And as) חֲזַ֜יְתָה (you saw) רַגְלַיָּ֣א (the feet) וְאֶצְבְּעָתָ֗א (and the toes), מִנְּהוֹן (partly) חֲסַ֤ף (of the clay), דִּֽי־ (of) פֶחָר֙ (a potter) וּמִנְּהוֹן (and partly) פַּרְזֶ֔ל (of iron), מַלְכ֤וּ (so the kingdom) פְלִיגָה֙ (divided); תֶּהֱוֵ֔ה (shall be) וּמִן־ (and some of) נִצְבְּתָ֥א (the strength) דִ֥י (-) פַרְזְלָ֖א (of the iron), לֶֽהֱוֵא־ (will be) בַ֑הּ (in it) כָּל־ (-) קֳבֵל֙ (as) דִּ֣י (-) חֲזַ֔יְתָה (you saw) פַּ֨רְזְלָ֔א (the iron) מְעָרַ֖ב (mixed) בַּחֲסַ֥ף (with clay) טִינָֽא׃ (common). 42  וְאֶצְבְּעָת֙ (And as the toes) רַגְלַיָּ֔א (of the feet) מִנְּהוֹן (were partly) פַּרְזֶ֖ל (of iron), וּמִנְּהוֹן (and partly) חֲסַ֑ף (of clay), מִן־ (so) קְצָ֤ת (partly) מַלְכוּתָא֙ (the kingdom) תֶּהֱוֵ֣ה (will be) תַקִּיפָ֔ה (strong), וּמִנַּ֖הּ (and part) תֶּהֱוֵ֥ה (will be) תְבִירָֽה׃ (brittle). 43  דִי (And as) חֲזַ֗יְתָ (you saw) פַּרְזְלָא֙ (the iron) מְעָרַב֙ (mixed) בַּחֲסַ֣ף (with clay), טִינָ֔א (common) מִתְעָרְבִ֤ין (mixing together) לֶהֱוֺן֙ (they will be) בִּזְרַ֣ע (with the seed) אֲנָשָׁ֔א (of man); וְלָֽא־ (not) לֶהֱוֺ֥ן (will they be) דָּבְקִ֖ין (adhering) דְּנָ֣ה (this) עִם־ (to) דְּנָ֑ה (that), הֵֽא־ (-) כְדִ֣י (as) פַרְזְלָ֔א (iron) לָ֥א (not) מִתְעָרַ֖ב (does mix) עִם־ (with) חַסְפָּֽא׃ (clay).

44  וּֽבְיוֹמֵיה֞וֹן (And in the days) דִּ֧י (of) מַלְכַיָּ֣א (the kings) אִנּ֗וּן (those) יְקִים֩ (will set up) אֱלָ֨הּ (the God) שְׁמַיָּ֤א (of heaven) מַלְכוּ֙ (a kingdom), דִּ֤י (that) לְעָלְמִין֙ (for the ages) לָ֣א (not) תִתְחַבַּ֔ל (will be destroyed), וּמַ֨לְכוּתָ֔ה (and the kingdom) לְעַ֥ם (to people), אָחֳרָ֖ן (this other) לָ֣א (not) תִשְׁתְּבִ֑ק (will be left) תַּדִּ֤ק (it will break in pieces) וְתָסֵיף֙ (and consume) כָּל־ (all) אִלֵּ֣ין (these) מַלְכְוָתָ֔א (kingdoms), וְהִ֖יא (and it) תְּק֥וּם (will stand) לְעָלְמַיָּֽא׃ (to the ages). 45  כָּל־ (All) קֳבֵ֣ל (because) דִּֽי־ (that) חֲזַ֡יְתָ (you saw) דִּ֣י (that) מִטּוּרָא֩ (from the mountain) אִתְגְּזֶ֨רֶת (was cut out) אֶ֜בֶן (the stone) דִּי־ (that was) לָ֣א (without) בִידַ֗יִן (hands), וְ֠הַדֶּקֶת (that it broke in pieces) פַּרְזְלָ֨א (the iron), נְחָשָׁ֤א (the bronze), חַסְפָּא֙ (the clay), כַּסְפָּ֣א (the silver), וְדַהֲבָ֔א (and the gold); אֱלָ֥הּ (God) רַב֙ (the great) הוֹדַ֣ע (has made known) לְמַלְכָּ֔א (to the king) מָ֛ה (what) דִּ֥י (-) לֶהֱוֵ֖א (will come to be) אַחֲרֵ֣י (after) דְנָ֑ה (this);

וְיַצִּ֥יב (is true), חֶלְמָ֖א (the dream) וּמְהֵימַ֥ן (and trustworthy) פִּשְׁרֵֽהּ׃פ (its interpretation).

Nebuchadnezzar Promotes Daniel

46  בֵּ֠אדַיִן (Then) מַלְכָּ֤א (King) נְבֽוּכַדְנֶצַּר֙ (Nebuchadnezzar) נְפַ֣ל (fell) עַל־ (on) אַנְפּ֔וֹהִי (his face), וּלְדָנִיֵּ֖אל (and to Daniel), סְגִ֑ד (he paid homage) וּמִנְחָה֙ (and an offering) וְנִ֣יחֹחִ֔ין (and incense) אֲמַ֖ר (he commanded that) לְנַסָּ֥כָה (be poured forth) לֵֽהּ׃ (to him). 47  עָנֵה֩ (Answered) מַלְכָּ֨א (the king) לְדָנִיֵּ֜אל (Daniel), וְאָמַ֗ר (and said), מִן־ (Of) קְשֹׁט֙ (a truth it is) דִּ֣י (that) אֱלָהֲכ֗וֹן (your⁺ God) ה֣וּא (He is) אֱלָ֧הּ (God) אֱלָהִ֛ין (of gods), וּמָרֵ֥א (and the Lord) מַלְכִ֖ין (of kings), וְגָלֵ֣ה (and the One revealing) רָזִ֑ין (secrets), דִּ֣י (since) יְכֵ֔לְתָּ (you were able) לְמִגְלֵ֖א (to reveal) רָזָ֥ה (the secret) דְנָֽה׃ (this).

48  אֱדַ֨יִן (Then) מַלְכָּ֜א (the king) לְדָנִיֵּ֣אל (to Daniel) רַבִּ֗י (gave high honor) וּמַתְּנָ֨ן (and gifts), רַבְרְבָ֤ן (great) שַׂגִּיאָן֙ (many) יְהַב־ (he gave) לֵ֔הּ (to him) וְהַ֨שְׁלְטֵ֔הּ (and he made him ruler) עַ֖ל (over) כָּל־ (all) מְדִינַ֣ת (the province) בָּבֶ֑ל (of Babylon), וְרַב־ (and chief) סִגְנִ֔ין (of administrators) עַ֖ל (over) כָּל־ (all) חַכִּימֵ֥י (the wise men) בָבֶֽל׃ (of Babylon). 49  וְדָנִיֵּאל֙ (And Daniel) בְּעָ֣א (requested) מִן־ (of) מַלְכָּ֔א (the king), וּמַנִּ֗י (and he appointed) עַ֤ל (over) עֲבִֽידְתָּא֙ (the affairs) דִּ֚י (of) מְדִינַ֣ת (the province) בָּבֶ֔ל (of Babylon), לְשַׁדְרַ֥ךְ (Shadrach), מֵישַׁ֖ךְ (Meshach), וַעֲבֵ֣ד (and Abed-) נְג֑וֹ (nego), וְדָנִיֵּ֖אל (and Daniel) בִּתְרַ֥ע (was in the gate) מַלְכָּֽא׃פ (of the king).
