Follow God's example, therefore, as dearly loved children1Γίνεσθε οὖν μιμηταὶ τοῦ Θεοῦ ὡς τέκνα ἀγαπητά
and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.2καὶ περιπατεῖτε ἐν ἀγάπῃ καθὼς καὶ Χριστὸς ἠγάπησεν ἡμᾶς* καὶ παρέδωκεν ἑαυτὸν ὑπὲρ ἡμῶν προσφορὰν καὶ θυσίαν τῷ Θεῷ εἰς ὀσμὴν εὐωδίας
But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people.3Πορνεία δὲ καὶ ἀκαθαρσία πᾶσα πλεονεξία μηδὲ ὀνομαζέσθω ἐν ὑμῖν καθὼς πρέπει ἁγίοις
Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.4καὶ αἰσχρότης καὶ μωρολογία εὐτραπελία οὐκ ἀνῆκεν ἀλλὰ μᾶλλον εὐχαριστία
For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person--such a person is an idolater--has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.5τοῦτο γὰρ ἴστε γινώσκοντες ὅτι πᾶς πόρνος ἀκάθαρτος πλεονέκτης ἐστιν εἰδωλολάτρης οὐκ ἔχει κληρονομίαν ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ τοῦ Χριστοῦ καὶ Θεοῦ
Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient.6Μηδεὶς ὑμᾶς ἀπατάτω κενοῖς λόγοις διὰ ταῦτα γὰρ ἔρχεται ὀργὴ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐπὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς τῆς ἀπειθείας
Therefore do not be partners with them.7μὴ οὖν γίνεσθε συμμέτοχοι αὐτῶν
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light8Ἦτε γάρ ποτε σκότος νῦν δὲ φῶς ἐν Κυρίῳ ὡς τέκνα φωτὸς περιπατεῖτε
(for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)9 γὰρ καρπὸς τοῦ φωτὸς ἐν πάσῃ ἀγαθωσύνῃ καὶ δικαιοσύνῃ καὶ ἀληθείᾳ
and find out what pleases the Lord.10δοκιμάζοντες τί ἐστιν εὐάρεστον τῷ Κυρίῳ
Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.11Καὶ μὴ συνκοινωνεῖτε τοῖς ἔργοις τοῖς ἀκάρποις τοῦ σκότους μᾶλλον δὲ καὶ ἐλέγχετε
It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.12τὰ γὰρ κρυφῇ γινόμενα ὑπ’ αὐτῶν αἰσχρόν ἐστιν καὶ λέγειν
But everything exposed by the light becomes visible--and everything that is illuminated becomes a light.13τὰ δὲ πάντα ἐλεγχόμενα ὑπὸ τοῦ φωτὸς φανεροῦται πᾶν γὰρ τὸ φανερούμενον φῶς ἐστιν
This is why it is said: "Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you."14διὸ λέγει Ἔγειρε καθεύδων καὶ ἀνάστα ἐκ τῶν νεκρῶν καὶ ἐπιφαύσει σοι Χριστός
Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise,15Βλέπετε οὖν ἀκριβῶς πῶς περιπατεῖτε μὴ ὡς ἄσοφοι ἀλλ’ ὡς σοφοί
making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.16ἐξαγοραζόμενοι τὸν καιρόν ὅτι αἱ ἡμέραι πονηραί εἰσιν
Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.17διὰ τοῦτο μὴ γίνεσθε ἄφρονες ἀλλὰ συνίετε τί τὸ θέλημα τοῦ Κυρίου
Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit,18καὶ μὴ μεθύσκεσθε οἴνῳ ἐν ἐστιν ἀσωτία ἀλλὰ πληροῦσθε ἐν Πνεύματι
speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord,19λαλοῦντες ἑαυτοῖς [ἐν] ψαλμοῖς καὶ ὕμνοις καὶ ᾠδαῖς πνευματικαῖς ᾄδοντες καὶ ψάλλοντες τῇ καρδίᾳ ὑμῶν τῷ Κυρίῳ
always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.20εὐχαριστοῦντες πάντοτε ὑπὲρ πάντων ἐν ὀνόματι τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ τῷ Θεῷ καὶ Πατρί
Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.21Ὑποτασσόμενοι ἀλλήλοις ἐν φόβῳ Χριστοῦ
Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.22Αἱ γυναῖκες τοῖς ἰδίοις ἀνδράσιν ὡς τῷ Κυρίῳ
For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.23ὅτι ἀνήρ ἐστιν κεφαλὴ τῆς γυναικὸς ὡς καὶ Χριστὸς κεφαλὴ τῆς ἐκκλησίας αὐτὸς σωτὴρ τοῦ σώματος
Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.24ἀλλὰ ὡς ἐκκλησία ὑποτάσσεται τῷ Χριστῷ οὕτως καὶ αἱ γυναῖκες τοῖς ἀνδράσιν ἐν παντί
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her25Οἱ ἄνδρες ἀγαπᾶτε τὰς γυναῖκας καθὼς καὶ Χριστὸς ἠγάπησεν τὴν ἐκκλησίαν καὶ ἑαυτὸν παρέδωκεν ὑπὲρ αὐτῆς
to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,26ἵνα αὐτὴν ἁγιάσῃ καθαρίσας τῷ λουτρῷ τοῦ ὕδατος ἐν ῥήματι
and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.27ἵνα παραστήσῃ αὐτὸς ἑαυτῷ ἔνδοξον τὴν ἐκκλησίαν μὴ ἔχουσαν σπίλον ῥυτίδα τι τῶν τοιούτων ἀλλ’ ἵνα ἁγία καὶ ἄμωμος
In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.28Οὕτως ὀφείλουσιν καὶ οἱ ἄνδρες ἀγαπᾶν τὰς ἑαυτῶν γυναῖκας ὡς τὰ ἑαυτῶν σώματα ἀγαπῶν τὴν ἑαυτοῦ γυναῖκα ἑαυτὸν ἀγαπᾷ
After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church--29οὐδεὶς γάρ ποτε τὴν ἑαυτοῦ σάρκα ἐμίσησεν ἀλλὰ ἐκτρέφει καὶ θάλπει αὐτήν καθὼς καὶ Χριστὸς τὴν ἐκκλησίαν
for we are members of his body.30ὅτι μέλη ἐσμὲν τοῦ σώματος αὐτοῦ ⧼ἐκ τῆς σαρκὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκ τῶν ὀστέων αὐτοῦ⧽
"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."31Ἀντὶ τούτου καταλείψει ἄνθρωπος τὸν πατέρα καὶ τὴν μητέρα καὶ προσκολληθήσεται πρὸς τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔσονται οἱ δύο εἰς σάρκα μίαν
This is a profound mystery--but I am talking about Christ and the church.32τὸ μυστήριον τοῦτο μέγα ἐστίν ἐγὼ δὲ λέγω εἰς Χριστὸν καὶ εἰς τὴν ἐκκλησίαν
However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.33πλὴν καὶ ὑμεῖς οἱ καθ’ ἕνα ἕκαστος τὴν ἑαυτοῦ γυναῖκα οὕτως ἀγαπάτω ὡς ἑαυτόν δὲ γυνὴ ἵνα φοβῆται τὸν ἄνδρα
