1 Παρακαλῶ οὖν ὑμᾶς ἀδελφοί διὰ τῶν οἰκτιρμῶν τοῦ Θεοῦ παραστῆσαι τὰ σώματα ὑμῶν θυσίαν ζῶσαν ἁγίαν «τῷ Θεῷ» εὐάρεστον τὴν λογικὴν λατρείαν ὑμῶν I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
2 καὶ μὴ συσχηματίζεσθε τῷ αἰῶνι τούτῳ ἀλλὰ μεταμορφοῦσθε τῇ ἀνακαινώσει τοῦ νοός εἰς τὸ δοκιμάζειν ὑμᾶς τί τὸ θέλημα τοῦ Θεοῦ τὸ ἀγαθὸν καὶ εὐάρεστον καὶ τέλειον Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
3 Λέγω γὰρ διὰ τῆς χάριτος τῆς δοθείσης μοι παντὶ τῷ ὄντι ἐν ὑμῖν μὴ ὑπερφρονεῖν παρ’ ὃ δεῖ φρονεῖν ἀλλὰ φρονεῖν εἰς τὸ σωφρονεῖν ἑκάστῳ ὡς ὁ Θεὸς ἐμέρισεν μέτρον πίστεως For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.
4 καθάπερ γὰρ ἐν ἑνὶ σώματι πολλὰ μέλη ἔχομεν τὰ δὲ μέλη πάντα οὐ τὴν αὐτὴν ἔχει πρᾶξιν For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function,
5 οὕτως οἱ πολλοὶ ἓν σῶμά ἐσμεν ἐν Χριστῷ τὸ δὲ καθ’ εἷς ἀλλήλων μέλη so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
6 Ἔχοντες δὲ χαρίσματα κατὰ τὴν χάριν τὴν δοθεῖσαν ἡμῖν διάφορα εἴτε προφητείαν κατὰ τὴν ἀναλογίαν τῆς πίστεως Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith;
7 εἴτε διακονίαν ἐν τῇ διακονίᾳ εἴτε ὁ διδάσκων ἐν τῇ διδασκαλίᾳ if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach;
8 εἴτε ὁ παρακαλῶν ἐν τῇ παρακλήσει ὁ μεταδιδοὺς ἐν ἁπλότητι ὁ προϊστάμενος ἐν σπουδῇ ὁ ἐλεῶν ἐν ἱλαρότητι the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
9 Ἡ ἀγάπη ἀνυπόκριτος ἀποστυγοῦντες τὸ πονηρόν κολλώμενοι τῷ ἀγαθῷ Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.
10 τῇ φιλαδελφίᾳ εἰς ἀλλήλους φιλόστοργοι τῇ τιμῇ ἀλλήλους προηγούμενοι Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.
11 τῇ σπουδῇ μὴ ὀκνηροί τῷ πνεύματι ζέοντες τῷ Κυρίῳ δουλεύοντες Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.
12 τῇ ἐλπίδι χαίροντες τῇ θλίψει ὑπομένοντες τῇ προσευχῇ προσκαρτεροῦντες Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
13 ταῖς χρείαις τῶν ἁγίων κοινωνοῦντες τὴν φιλοξενίαν διώκοντες Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
14 Εὐλογεῖτε τοὺς διώκοντας [ὑμᾶς] εὐλογεῖτε καὶ μὴ καταρᾶσθε Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
15 χαίρειν μετὰ χαιρόντων κλαίειν μετὰ κλαιόντων Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.
16 τὸ αὐτὸ εἰς ἀλλήλους φρονοῦντες μὴ τὰ ὑψηλὰ φρονοῦντες ἀλλὰ τοῖς ταπεινοῖς συναπαγόμενοι μὴ γίνεσθε φρόνιμοι παρ’ ἑαυτοῖς Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.
17 μηδενὶ κακὸν ἀντὶ κακοῦ ἀποδιδόντες προνοούμενοι καλὰ ἐνώπιον πάντων ἀνθρώπων Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.
18 εἰ δυνατόν τὸ ἐξ ὑμῶν μετὰ πάντων ἀνθρώπων εἰρηνεύοντες If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
19 μὴ ἑαυτοὺς ἐκδικοῦντες ἀγαπητοί ἀλλὰ δότε τόπον τῇ ὀργῇ γέγραπται γάρ Ἐμοὶ ἐκδίκησις ἐγὼ ἀνταποδώσω λέγει Κύριος Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.
20 Ἀλλὰ Ἐὰν πεινᾷ ὁ ἐχθρός σου ψώμιζε αὐτόν ἐὰν διψᾷ πότιζε αὐτόν τοῦτο γὰρ ποιῶν ἄνθρακας πυρὸς σωρεύσεις ἐπὶ τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”
21 Μὴ νικῶ ὑπὸ τοῦ κακοῦ ἀλλὰ νίκα ἐν τῷ ἀγαθῷ τὸ κακόν Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
