2 according to the foreknowledge of God the Father and sanctified by the Spirit for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by His blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance. according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you. 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, Blessed <i>be</i> the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, to <i>obtain</i> an inheritance <i>which is</i> imperishable, undefiled, and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you,
5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power for the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 7 so that the proven character of your faith— more precious than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire— may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: so that the proof of your faith, <i>being</i> more precious than gold which perishes though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ; These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
8 Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and rejoice with an inexpressible and glorious joy, Though you have not seen him, you love him. 10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets who foretold the grace to come to you searched and investigated carefully, Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace <i>that should come</i> unto you: As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that <i>would come</i> to you made careful searches and inquiries, Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care,
11 trying to determine the time and setting to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. inquiring what person or time the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, when they foretold the things now announced by those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things. It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things into which angels long to look. 13 Therefore prepare your minds for action. Be sober-minded. Set your hope fully on the grace to be given you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober <i>in spirit,</i> set your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.
14 As obedient children, do not conform to the passions of your former ignorance. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts <i>which were yours</i> in your ignorance, As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.
15 But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all <i>your</i> behavior; But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;
16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. because it is written: “YOU SHALL BE HOLY, FOR I AM HOLY.” for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
17 Since you call on a Father who judges each one’s work impartially, conduct yourselves in reverent fear during your stay as foreigners. And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning <i>here</i> in fear: If you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay <i>on earth;</i> Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear.
18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life you inherited from your forefathers, knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, <i>as</i> silver and gold, from your vain conversation <i>received</i> by tradition from your fathers; knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors,
19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or spot. but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, <i>the blood</i> of Christ. but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.
20 He was known before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in the last times for your sake. He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.
21 Through Him you believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and glorified Him; and so your faith and hope are in God. who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.
22 Since you have purified your souls by obedience to the truth so that you have a genuine love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from a pure heart. Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, <i>see that ye</i> love one another with a pure heart fervently: Since you have purified your souls in obedience to the truth for a sincere love of the brothers <i>and</i> sisters, fervently love one another from the heart, Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart.
23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. for you have been born again not of seed which is perishable, but imperishable, <i>that is,</i> through the living and enduring word of God. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.
24 For, “All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, For all flesh <i>is</i> as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: For, “ALL FLESH IS LIKE GRASS, AND ALL ITS GLORY IS LIKE THE FLOWER OF GRASS. THE GRASS WITHERS, AND THE FLOWER FALLS OFF, For, “All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall,
25 but the word of the Lord stands forever.” And this is the word that was proclaimed to you. but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you. But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD ENDURES FOREVER.” And this is the word which was preached to you. but the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word that was preached to you.
