For even if they flee destruction, Egypt will gather them and Memphis will bury them. Their precious silver will be taken over by thistles, and thorns will overrun their tents.

This is the word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews living in the land of Egypt--in Migdol, Tahpanhes, and Memphis--and in the land of Pathros:
"Announce it in Egypt, and proclaim it in Migdol; proclaim it in Memphis and Tahpanhes: 'Take your positions and prepare yourself, for the sword devours those around you.'
Pack your bags for exile, O daughter dwelling in Egypt! For Memphis will be laid waste, destroyed and uninhabited.
This is what the Lord GOD says: 'I will destroy the idols and put an end to the images in Memphis. There will no longer be a prince in Egypt, and I will instill fear in that land.
I will set fire to Egypt; Pelusium will writhe in anguish, Thebes will be split open, and Memphis will face daily distress.
Therefore, behold, I will hedge up her path with thorns; I will enclose her with a wall, so she cannot find her way.
So Ephraim has become like a silly, senseless dove--calling out to Egypt, then turning to Assyria.
They turn, but not to the Most High; they are like a faulty bow. Their leaders will fall by the sword for the cursing of their tongue; for this they will be ridiculed in the land of Egypt.
Though they offer sacrifices given to Me and eat the meat, the LORD does not accept them. Now He will remember their iniquity and punish their sins: They will return to Egypt.
The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed; thorns and thistles will grow over their altars. Then they will say to the mountains, "Cover us!" and to the hills, "Fall on us!"
Wail, O dwellers of the Hollow, for all your merchants will be silenced; all who weigh out silver will be cut off.
