| 1 | If any of you has a grievance against another, how dare he go to law before the unrighteous instead of before the saints! | When one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints? | Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints? | Does any one of you, when he has a case against his neighbor, dare to go to law before the unrighteous and not before the saints? | If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord’s people? |
| 2 | Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? | Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? | Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? | Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? If the world is judged by you, are you not competent <i>to form</i> the smallest law courts? | Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? |

| 5 | I say this to your shame. Is there really no one among you wise enough to arbitrate between his brothers? | I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers, | I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren? | I say <i>this</i> to your shame. <i>Is it</i> so, <i>that</i> there is not among you anyone wise who will be able to decide between his brothers <i>and sisters,</i> | I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers? |

| 7 | The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means that you are thoroughly defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? | To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? | Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather <i>suffer yourselves to</i> be defrauded? | Actually, then, it is already a defeat for you, that you have lawsuits with one another. Why not rather suffer the wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? | The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged?
