1 If any of you has a grievance against another, how dare he go to law before the unrighteous instead of before the saints! When one of you has a grievance against another, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints? Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints? Does any one of you, when he has a case against his neighbor, dare to go to law before the unrighteous and not before the saints? If any of you has a dispute with another, do you dare to take it before the ungodly for judgment instead of before the Lord’s people?
2 Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? If the world is judged by you, are you not competent <i>to form</i> the smallest law courts? Or do you not know that the Lord’s people will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases?
3 Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life! Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, then, matters pertaining to this life! Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life? Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more matters of this life? Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!
4 So if you need to settle everyday matters, do you appoint as judges those of no standing in the church? So if you have such cases, why do you lay them before those who have no standing in the church? If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church. So if you have law courts dealing with matters of this life, do you appoint them <i>as judges</i> who are of no account in the church? Therefore, if you have disputes about such matters, do you ask for a ruling from those whose way of life is scorned in the church?
5 I say this to your shame. Is there really no one among you wise enough to arbitrate between his brothers? I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to settle a dispute between the brothers, I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren? I say <i>this</i> to your shame. <i>Is it</i> so, <i>that</i> there is not among you anyone wise who will be able to decide between his brothers <i>and sisters,</i> I say this to shame you. Is it possible that there is nobody among you wise enough to judge a dispute between believers?
6 Instead, one brother goes to law against another, and this in front of unbelievers! but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers? But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers. but brother goes to law with brother, and that before unbelievers? But instead, one brother takes another to court—and this in front of unbelievers!
7 The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means that you are thoroughly defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated? To have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? why do ye not rather <i>suffer yourselves to</i> be defrauded? Actually, then, it is already a defeat for you, that you have lawsuits with one another. Why not rather suffer the wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have been completely defeated already. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be cheated?
8 Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, even against your own brothers! But you yourselves wrong and defraud—even your own brothers! Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that <i>your</i> brethren. On the contrary, you yourselves do wrong and defraud. And this to <i>your</i> brothers <i>and sisters!</i> Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers and sisters.
9 Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who submit to or perform homosexual acts, Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men
10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. nor thieves, nor <i>the</i> greedy, nor those habitually drunk, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
11 And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. And such were some of you. 12 “Everything is permissible for me, but not everything is beneficial. “Everything is permissible for me, but I will not be mastered by anything. “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything. All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. All things are permitted for me, but not all things are of benefit. All things are permitted for me, but I will not be mastered by anything. “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything|—but I will not be mastered by anything.
13 “ Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, but God will destroy them both. The body is not intended for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. “Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body <i>is</i> not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. Food is for the stomach and the stomach is for food, however God will do away with both of them. But the body is not for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body. You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
14 By His power God raised the Lord from the dead, and He will raise us also. And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power. Now God has not only raised the Lord, but will also raise us up through His power. By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also.
15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make <i>them</i> the members of an harlot? God forbid. Do you not know that your bodies are parts of Christ? Shall I then take away the parts of Christ and make them parts of a prostitute? Far from it! Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never!
16 Or don’t you know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.” Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.” What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh. Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body <i>with her?</i> For He says, “THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH.” Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.”
17 But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with Him in spirit. But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit. But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit <i>with Him.</i> But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.
18 Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a man can commit is outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. Flee sexual immorality. Every other sin that a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.
19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost <i>which is</i> in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and <i>that</i> you are not your own? Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
20 you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body. for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. For you have been bought for a price: therefore glorify God in your body. you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
