Berean Study Bible Praise the LORD from the HeavensA summons for joyful, reverent praise to the LORD—“Hallelujah,” meaning “Praise the LORD”—opens this psalm and sets its universal scope. Rev 19:1 After this I heard a sound like the roar… Praise the LORD from the heavens; The heavenly realm, including the angels who serve before God’s throne, is called to honor the Creator. Their worship reflects the order of creation and God’s rule over all that is visible and unseen. Neh 9:6 You alone are the LORD. You created the heavens,… praise Him in the highest places. From the highest heavens, where God displays His majesty and authority, praise rises to Him. No part of creation stands outside His dominion or is exempt from giving Him glory. Luk 2:14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace”… Praise Him, all His angels; God summons the angels, His created servants, to join in His praise. They carry out His commands, minister according to His will, and stand before His throne in continual worship. Their praise reflects God’s holiness, authority, and glory over the heavenly realm. Psa 103:20-21 Bless the LORD, all His angels mighty in strength… praise Him, all His heavenly hosts. The host of heaven includes the great company of angelic beings who serve under God’s rule. Though mighty and numerous, they are subject to their Creator and unite in honoring Him. Heaven’s worship confirms that all spiritual powers belong to God and exist for His glory. Luk 2:13 And suddenly there appeared with the angel… Praise Him, O sun and moon; The sun and moon are created lights, not divine beings, despite their worship in surrounding ancient cultures. God appointed them to govern day and night and to mark times and seasons. Their fixed order in the heavens displays His rule over creation. Psa 136:7-9 He made the great lights—His loving devotion… praise Him, all you shining stars. The countless stars also belong to God and serve His purposes in the ordered heavens. Their beauty, number, and dependable courses reveal the power of the Creator, who made and sustains all things. Job 38:7 while the morning stars sang together… Praise Him, O highest heavens, The highest heavens include the loftiest realms of God’s creation, associated with His heavenly dwelling and the angels who serve before Him. Even these unseen realms stand under His rule and join the universal praise of their Creator. 2Ch 2:6 But who is able to build a house for Him?… and you waters above the skies. God separated waters above the expanse from the waters below when He established the world. These waters, like the heavens themselves, remain subject to His command and testify to His power over the created order. Gen 1:6-8 And God said, “Let there be an expanse between the waters… Let them praise the name of the LORD, All creation is summoned to honor the Lord whose character, authority, and majesty are revealed in His works. Heaven and earth exist under His rule and fulfill their intended purpose by acknowledging Him. Psa 135:1 Hallelujah! Praise the name of the LORD.… for He gave the command The universe came into being by God’s sovereign word. He did not depend on preexisting matter or rival powers; His will alone established all that exists. Psa 33:9 For He spoke, and it came to be; He commanded… and they were created. Creation was immediate, deliberate, and wholly dependent on God, who brought all things into existence out of nothing. Every creature owes its existence to Him and remains subject to His authority. Rev 4:11 Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor… He established them forever and ever; God fixed the heavens and their hosts in the order appointed at creation. The sun, moon, and stars remain under His rule, testifying to the permanence and reliability of His work. Psa 93:1 The LORD reigns! He is robed in majesty;… He issued a decree that will never pass away. Creation continues according to God’s unchanging command. His decrees cannot be overturned, and the order He established points to the lasting certainty of His purposes and promises. Mat 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words… Praise the LORD from the earth, God’s praise rises not only from heaven but also from the world He made. Humanity, animals, land, and sea belong to Him and stand under His rule. The whole earth is called to acknowledge the Creator’s majesty. Isa 42:10 Sing to the LORD a new song—His praise… all great sea creatures Even the largest and most fearsome creatures of the sea are part of God’s ordered creation. Creatures beyond human control remain under His authority and display the greatness of His power. Gen 1:21 So God created the great sea creatures… and ocean depths, The hidden depths of the sea, with their vastness and mystery, are not beyond God’s knowledge or command. Every remote part of creation bears witness to His wisdom and sovereignty. Jon 2:3 For You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas,… lightning and hail, Lightning and hail display God’s authority over the forces of nature. He sent destructive hail upon Egypt while preserving Goshen, distinguishing His people from their oppressors. Lightning accompanied the Lord’s descent at Sinai, underscoring the seriousness of His covenant and the holiness of His presence. Psa 78:47-48 He killed their vines with hailstones… snow and clouds, Snow and clouds also serve His purposes. Snow reflects the purity God provides in cleansing sin, while clouds marked His guiding presence with Israel in the wilderness and received Christ at His ascension. Job 37:5-6 God thunders wondrously with His voice; He does great things… powerful wind fulfilling His word, Even unseen and uncontrollable forces obey their Creator. God has used the wind to divide the sea, bring judgment, preserve life, and carry out His commands. The powerful wind fulfills His word. Psa 147:18 He sends forth His word and melts them;… mountains and all hills, The high mountains and lesser hills alike stand within God’s created order, displaying His enduring power and majesty. Mountains also served as settings for significant encounters between God and His servants, including the giving of the Law and prophetic ministry. Isa 55:12 You will indeed go out with joy and be led forth in peace;… fruit trees and all cedars, Fruit trees testify to God’s provision of food and abundance, while cedars were valued for their great height, strength, and usefulness in royal and sacred construction. Together they represent the variety of creation, from what sustains daily life to what supplies materials for enduring works. Gen 1:11-12 Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth vegetation:… wild animals and all cattle, The wild and the domesticated alike belong to God and stand under His rule. Animals beyond human control display His power in creation, while cattle supported Israel’s daily life through food, labor, and sacrifice. Together they show that every part of the animal world has its place in honoring its Creator. Gen 7:14 they and every kind of wild animal, livestock, … crawling creatures and flying birds, Even the smallest creatures of the ground and the birds of the sky are included. Nothing in creation is too humble or too distant to testify to God’s wisdom, order, and care. Deu 4:17-18 of any beast that is on the earth or bird that flies… kings of the earth and all peoples, Earthly kings, though powerful among men, remain under God’s rule and are called to acknowledge Him. The summons extends beyond rulers to every nation and people, showing that no land or class stands outside the Creator’s authority. Psa 72:11 May all kings bow down to him and all nations serve him. princes and all rulers of the earth, Governors, military leaders, and other officials also bear responsibility before God. Their authority is temporary and delegated; therefore, they are included with all creation in giving honor to the One who rules over every kingdom. Pro 8:15-16 By me kings reign, and rulers enact just laws;… young men and maidens, Both young men and young women are summoned to join in praising the Lord. Their strength, promise, and future belong under God’s rule, and neither gender is excluded from the worshiping community. Jol 2:28 And afterward, I will pour out My Spirit on all people.… old and young together. The generations are united in praise. Older people bring the testimony of God’s faithfulness through many years, while the young are called to receive and continue that faith. God’s glory is worthy of honor throughout every stage of life. Jer 31:13 Then the maidens will rejoice with dancing,… Let them praise the name of the LORD, All creation is summoned to acknowledge the LORD as Creator and rightful ruler. His name represents His revealed character, authority, and covenant faithfulness. Psa 113:1-3 Hallelujah! Give praise, O servants of the LORD… for His name alone is exalted; No other being shares His glory or stands as His equal. Against the false gods honored among surrounding nations, Israel confessed that the LORD alone is supreme. Isa 2:11 The proud look of man will be humbled… His splendor is above the earth and the heavens. The created world displays His greatness, yet His majesty surpasses all He has made. Earth and heaven remain under His sovereign power. Psa 57:5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; may Your glory… He has raised up a horn for His people, God has given Israel strength, honor, and deliverance, pictured by the horn of a powerful animal. The image celebrates His ability to defend and exalt His covenant people. 1Sa 2:10 Those who oppose the LORD will be shattered.… the praise of all His saints, God’s saving power gives His faithful people cause to praise Him. His acts on behalf of Israel reveal His faithfulness and sovereign rule. Psa 30:4 Sing to the LORD, O you His saints, and… of Israel, a people near to Him. Israel possessed a unique covenant relationship with the LORD, whom He chose to dwell among and to represent His name among the nations. Deu 4:7 For what nation is great enough to have a god… Hallelujah! The psalm closes with “Hallelujah,” meaning “Praise the LORD,” a call for praise to the LORD, whose greatness is displayed in creation and in His care for His people.
