He struck down the firstborn of Egypt

On the night of the Passover, God judged Egypt by striking every firstborn, from Pharaoh’s household to the captive’s, while preserving the Israelites sheltered by the blood of the lamb. This final plague broke Pharaoh’s resistance and led to Israel’s departure from slavery. It also exposed the helplessness of Egypt’s gods before the Lord.

Sihon king of the Amorites

Sihon ruled an Amorite kingdom east of the Jordan, extending from the Arnon River northward toward the Jabbok. When Israel requested passage through his land, Sihon refused and attacked them. God gave Israel victory, and they took possession of his cities and territory. The defeat of Sihon marked Israel’s first major conquest in the land promised to Abraham’s descendants and opened the way for settlement east of the Jordan.
