1 Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover, was near. Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called the Passover. Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching,
2 So the high priests and the scribes were looking for a way to put him to death, because they were afraid of the crowd. 12 Then he will show you a large upstairs room that is furnished. Get things ready for us there.| And he will show you a large upper room furnished; prepare it there.” He will show you a large room upstairs, all furnished. Make preparations there.”
13 So they went and found everything just as Jesus had told them, and they prepared the Passover meal. And they went and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover. They left and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.

19 Then he took a loaf of bread, gave thanks, broke it in pieces, and handed it to them, saying, |This is my body, which is given for you. 20 He did the same with the cup after supper, saying, |This cup is the new covenant sealed by my blood, which is being poured out for you. 22 The Son of Man is going away, just as it has been determined, but how terrible it will be for that man by whom he is betrayed!| For the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!” The Son of Man will go as it has been decreed. But woe to that man who betrays him!”
23 Then they began to discuss among themselves which one of them was going to do this. And they began to question one another, which of them it could be who was going to do this. They began to question among themselves which of them it might be who would do this.

27 Because who is greater, the one who sits at the table, or the one who serves? It is the one at the table, isn't it? But I'm among you as one who serves. For who is the greater, one who reclines at table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But I am among you as the one who serves. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.

29 And I confer a kingdom on you, just as my Father has conferred a kingdom on me, and I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom, And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me,

34 But Jesus said, |I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you deny three times that you know me.| Jesus said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day, until you deny three times that you know me.” Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.”
35 Then Jesus asked his disciples, |When I sent you out without a wallet, traveling bag, or sandals, you didn't lack anything, did you?| They replied, |Nothing at all.| And he said to them, “When I sent you out with no moneybag or knapsack or sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.” Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?” “Nothing,” they answered.
36 Then he told them, |But now whoever has a wallet must take it along, and his traveling bag, too. And the one who has no sword must sell his coat and buy one. He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one. He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.
37 Because I tell you, what has been written about me must be fulfilled: 'He was counted among the criminals.' Indeed, what is written about me must be fulfilled.| For I tell you that this Scripture must be fulfilled in me: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors.’ For what is written about me has its fulfillment.” It is written: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors’; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.”
38 So they said, |Lord, look! Here are two swords.| He answered them, |Enough of that!| And they said, “Look, Lord, here are two swords.” And he said to them, “It is enough.” The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.” “That’s enough!” he replied.
39 Then he left and went to the Mount of Olives, as usual. The disciples went with him. And he came out and went, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him. Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him.
40 When he arrived, he told them, |Keep on praying that you may not be tempted.| And when he came to the place, he said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.”
41 Then he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, knelt down, and began to pray, And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed,
42 |Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me. Yet not my will but yours be done.| saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”
43 Then an angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.
44 In his anguish he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat became like large drops of blood falling on the ground. And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. 46 He asked them, |Why are you sleeping? Get up and keep on praying that you may not be tempted.| and he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.” “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”
47 While Jesus was still speaking, a crowd arrived. The man called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them, and he came close to Jesus to kiss him. 49 When those who were around Jesus saw what was about to take place, they asked, |Lord, should we attack with our swords?| And when those who were around him saw what would follow, they said, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?” When Jesus’ followers saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with our swords?”
50 Then one of them struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his right ear. And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear. And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.
51 But Jesus said, |No more of this!| So he touched the wounded man's ear and healed him. But Jesus said, “No more of this!” And he touched his ear and healed him. But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him.
52 Then Jesus told the high priests, the Temple police, and the elders, who had come for him, |Have you come out with swords and clubs as if I were a bandit? Then Jesus said to the chief priests and officers of the temple and elders, who had come out against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs? Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders, who had come for him, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs?
53 While I was with you day after day in the Temple, you didn't lay a hand on me. But this is your hour, when darkness reigns!| When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.” Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour—when darkness reigns.”
54 Then they arrested him, led him away, and brought him to the high priest's house. But Peter was following at a distance. Then they seized him and led him away, bringing him into the high priest’s house, and Peter was following at a distance. 55 When they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had taken their seats, Peter, too, sat down among them. 57 But he denied it, |I don't know him, woman!| he responded. But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know him.” But he denied it. “Woman, I don’t know him,” he said.
58 A little later, a man looked at him and said, |You are one of them, too.| But Peter said, |Mister, I am not!| And a little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.” A little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” “Man, I am not!” Peter replied.
59 About an hour later, another man emphatically asserted, |This man was certainly with him, because he is a Galilean!| And after an interval of about an hour still another insisted, saying, “Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean.” About an hour later another asserted, “Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.”
60 But Peter said, |Mister, I don't know what you're talking about!| Just then, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed. But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed.
61 Then the Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. And Peter remembered the word from the Lord, and how he had told him, |Before a rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.| And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.” The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.”
62 So he went outside and cried bitterly. And he went out and wept bitterly. And he went outside and wept bitterly.
63 Then the men who were holding Jesus in custody began to make fun of him while they beat him. Now the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking him as they beat him. The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him.
64 They blindfolded him and asked him over and over again, |Prophesy! Who is the one who hit you?| They also blindfolded him and kept asking him, “Prophesy! Who is it that struck you?” They blindfolded him and demanded, “Prophesy! Who hit you?”
65 And they kept insulting him in many other ways. And they said many other things against him, blaspheming him. And they said many other insulting things to him.
66 As soon as day came, the elders of the people, the high priests, and the scribes assembled and brought him before their Council. When day came, the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes. And they led him away to their council, and they said, At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and the teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them.
67 They said, |If you are the Messiah, tell us.| But he told them, |If I tell you, you won't believe me, “If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe, “If you are the Messiah,” they said, “tell us.” Jesus answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe me,
68 and if I ask you a question, you won't answer me. and if I ask you, you will not answer. and if I asked you, you would not answer.
69 But from now on the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.| But from now on the Son of Man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.” But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.”
70 Then they all asked, |Are you, then, the Son of God?| He answered them, |You said it—I AM.| So they all said, “Are you the Son of God, then?” And he said to them, “You say that I am.” They all asked, “Are you then the Son of God?” He replied, “You say that I am.”
71 |Why do we need any more testimony?| they asked. |We have heard it ourselves from his own mouth!| Then they said, “What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips.” Then they said, “Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips.”
