2	and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might kill him; for they feared the people.	And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to put him to death, for they feared the people.	and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people.
3	And Satan entered into Judas, who was surnamed Iscariote, being of the number of the twelve.	Then Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve.	Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve.
4	And he went away and spoke with the chief priests and captains as to how he should deliver him up to them.	He went away and conferred with the chief priests and officers how he might betray him to them.	And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus.
5	And they were rejoiced, and agreed to give him money.	And they were glad, and agreed to give him money.	They were delighted and agreed to give him money.
6	And he came to an agreement to do it, and sought an opportunity to deliver him up to them away from the crowd.	So he consented and sought an opportunity to betray him to them in the absence of a crowd.	He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.
7	And the day of unleavened bread came, in which the passover was to be killed.	Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.	Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.
8	And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare the passover for us, that we may eat [it].	So Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat it.”	Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.”
9	But they said to him, Where wilt thou that we prepare [it]?	They said to him, “Where will you have us prepare it?”	“Where do you want us to prepare for it?” they asked.
10	And he said to them, Behold, as ye enter into the city a man will meet you, carrying an earthen pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he goes in;	He said to them, “Behold, when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him into the house that he enters	He replied, “As you enter the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him to the house that he enters,
11	and ye shall say to the master of the house, The Teacher says to thee, Where is the guest-chamber where I may eat the passover with my disciples?	and tell the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you, Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’	and say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’
12	And he will shew you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.	And he will show you a large upper room furnished; prepare it there.”	He will show you a large room upstairs, all furnished. Make preparations there.”
13	And having gone they found it as he had said to them; and they prepared the passover.	And they went and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover.	They left and found things just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover.
14	And when the hour was come, he placed himself at table, and the [twelve] apostles with him.	And when the hour came, he reclined at table, and the apostles with him.	When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table.
15	And he said to them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer.	And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.	And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.
16	For I say unto you, that I will not eat any more at all of it until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.	For I tell you I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”	For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.”
17	And having received a cup, when he had given thanks he said, Take this and divide it among yourselves.	And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves.	After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, “Take this and divide it among you.
18	For I say unto you, that I will not drink at all of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God come.	For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”	For I tell you I will not drink again from the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”
19	And having taken a loaf, when he had given thanks, he broke [it], and gave [it] to them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.	And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”	And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
20	In like manner also the cup, after having supped, saying, This cup [is] the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.	And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.	In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
21	Moreover, behold, the hand of him that delivers me up [is] with me on the table;	But behold, the hand of him who betrays me is with me on the table.	But the hand of him who is going to betray me is with mine on the table.
22	and the Son of man indeed goes as it is determined, but woe unto that man by whom he is delivered up.	For the Son of Man goes as it has been determined, but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!”	The Son of Man will go as it has been decreed. But woe to that man who betrays him!”
23	And they began to question together among themselves who then it could be of them who was about to do this.	And they began to question one another, which of them it could be who was going to do this.	They began to question among themselves which of them it might be who would do this.
24	And there was also a strife among them which of them should be held to be [the] greatest.	A dispute also arose among them, as to which of them was to be regarded as the greatest.	A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest.
25	And he said to them, The kings of the nations rule over them, and they that exercise authority over them are called benefactors.	And he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors.	Jesus said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors.
26	But ye [shall] not [be] thus; but let the greater among you be as the younger, and the leader as he that serves.	But not so with you. Rather, let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves.	But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves.
27	For which [is] greater, he that is at table or he that serves? [Is] not he that is at table? But I am in the midst of you as the one that serves.	For who is the greater, one who reclines at table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But I am among you as the one who serves.	For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.
28	But ye are they who have persevered with me in my temptations.	“You are those who have stayed with me in my trials,	You are those who have stood by me in my trials.
29	And I appoint unto you, as my Father has appointed unto me, a kingdom,	and I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom,	And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me,
30	that ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.	that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.	so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
31	And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded to have you, to sift [you] as wheat;	“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat,	“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat.
32	but I have besought for thee that thy faith fail not; and thou, when once thou hast been restored, confirm thy brethren.	but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.”	But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”
33	And he said to him, Lord, with thee I am ready to go both to prison and to death.	Peter said to him, “Lord, I am ready to go with you both to prison and to death.”	But he replied, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.”
34	And he said, I tell thee, Peter, [the] cock shall not crow to-day before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.	Jesus said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow this day, until you deny three times that you know me.”	Jesus answered, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.”
35	And he said to them, When I sent you without purse and scrip and sandals, did ye lack anything? And they said, Nothing.	And he said to them, “When I sent you out with no moneybag or knapsack or sandals, did you lack anything?” They said, “Nothing.”	Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?” “Nothing,” they answered.
36	He said therefore to them, But now he that has a purse let him take [it], in like manner also a scrip, and he that has none let him sell his garment and buy a sword;	He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one.	He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.
37	for I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned with [the] lawless: for also the things concerning me have an end.	For I tell you that this Scripture must be fulfilled in me: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors.’ For what is written about me has its fulfillment.”	It is written: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors’; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.”
38	And they said, Lord, behold here are two swords. And he said to them, It is enough.	And they said, “Look, Lord, here are two swords.” And he said to them, “It is enough.”	The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.” “That’s enough!” he replied.
39	And going forth he went according to his custom to the mount of Olives, and the disciples also followed him.	And he came out and went, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him.	Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him.
40	And when he was at the place he said to them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.	And when he came to the place, he said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”	On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.”
41	And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's throw, and having knelt down he prayed,	And he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed,	He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed,
42	saying, Father, if thou wilt remove this cup from me: -- but then, not my will, but thine be done.	saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.”	“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”
43	And an angel appeared to him from heaven strengthening him.	And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him.	An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.
44	And being in conflict he prayed more intently. And his sweat became as great drops of blood, falling down upon the earth.	And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.	And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
45	And rising up from his prayer, coming to the disciples, he found them sleeping from grief.	And when he rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow,	When he rose from prayer and went back to the disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow.
46	And he said to them, Why sleep ye? rise up and pray that ye enter not into temptation.	and he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”	“Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”
47	As he was yet speaking, behold, a crowd, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went on before them, and drew near to Jesus to kiss him.	While he was still speaking, there came a crowd, and the man called Judas, one of the twelve, was leading them. He drew near to Jesus to kiss him,	While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him,
48	And Jesus said to him, Judas, deliverest thou up the Son of man with a kiss?	but Jesus said to him, “Judas, would you betray the Son of Man with a kiss?”	but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
49	And they who were around him, seeing what was going to follow, said [to him], Lord, shall we smite with [the] sword?	And when those who were around him saw what would follow, they said, “Lord, shall we strike with the sword?”	When Jesus’ followers saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with our swords?”
50	And a certain one from among them smote the bondman of the high priest and took off his right ear.	And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.	And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.
51	And Jesus answering said, Suffer thus far; and having touched his ear, he healed him.	But Jesus said, “No more of this!” And he touched his ear and healed him.	But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him.
52	And Jesus said to the chief priests and captains of the temple and elders, who were come against him, Have ye come out as against a robber with swords and sticks?	Then Jesus said to the chief priests and officers of the temple and elders, who had come out against him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs?	Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders, who had come for him, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs?
53	When I was day by day with you in the temple ye did not stretch out your hands against me; but this is your hour and the power of darkness.	When I was with you day after day in the temple, you did not lay hands on me. But this is your hour, and the power of darkness.”	Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour—when darkness reigns.”
54	And having laid hold on him, they led him [away], and they led [him] into the house of the high priest. And Peter followed afar off.	Then they seized him and led him away, bringing him into the high priest’s house, and Peter was following at a distance.	Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance.
55	And they having lit a fire in the midst of the court and sat down together, Peter sat among them.	And when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat down among them.	And when some there had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them.
56	And a certain maid, having seen him sitting by the light, and having fixed her eyes upon him, said, And this [man] was with him.	Then a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the light and looking closely at him, said, “This man also was with him.”	A servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, “This man was with him.”
57	But he denied [him], saying, Woman, I do not know him.	But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know him.”	But he denied it. “Woman, I don’t know him,” he said.
58	And after a short time another seeing him said, And thou art of them. But Peter said, Man, I am not.	And a little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.”	A little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” “Man, I am not!” Peter replied.
59	And after the lapse of about one hour another stoutly maintained it, saying, In truth this [man] also was with him, for also he is a Galilaean.	And after an interval of about an hour still another insisted, saying, “Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean.”	About an hour later another asserted, “Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.”
60	And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he was yet speaking, [the] cock crew.	But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.	Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed.
61	And the Lord, turning round, looked at Peter; and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he said to him, Before [the] cock crow thou shalt deny me thrice.	And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.”	The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.”
62	And Peter, going forth without, wept bitterly.	And he went out and wept bitterly.	And he went outside and wept bitterly.
63	And the men who held him mocked him, beating [him];	Now the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking him as they beat him.	The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him.
64	and covering him up, asked him saying, Prophesy, who is it that struck thee?	They also blindfolded him and kept asking him, “Prophesy! Who is it that struck you?”	They blindfolded him and demanded, “Prophesy! Who hit you?”
65	And they said many other injurious things to him.	And they said many other things against him, blaspheming him.	And they said many other insulting things to him.
66	And when it was day, the elderhood of the people, both [the] chief priests and scribes, were gathered together, and led him into their council, saying,	When day came, the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes. And they led him away to their council, and they said,	At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and the teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them.
67	If thou art the Christ, tell us. And he said to them, If I tell you, ye will not at all believe;	“If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe,	“If you are the Messiah,” they said, “tell us.” Jesus answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe me,
68	and if I should ask [you], ye would not answer me at all, nor let me go;	and if I ask you, you will not answer.	and if I asked you, you would not answer.
69	but henceforth shall the Son of man be sitting on the right hand of the power of God.	But from now on the Son of Man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.”	But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.”
70	And they all said, Thou then art the Son of God? And he said to them, Ye say that I am.	So they all said, “Are you the Son of God, then?” And he said to them, “You say that I am.”	They all asked, “Are you then the Son of God?” He replied, “You say that I am.”
71	And they said, What need have we any more of witness, for we have heard ourselves out of his mouth?	Then they said, “What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips.”	Then they said, “Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips.”
