1 Finally, brothers, we ask and encourage you in the Lord Jesus to live in a way that is pleasing to God, just as you have received from us. This is how you already live, so you should do so all the more. Finally, then, brothers, we ask and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, just as you are doing, that you do so more and more. Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort <i>you</i> by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, <i>so</i> ye would abound more and more. Finally then, brothers <i>and sisters,</i> we request and urge you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received <i>instruction</i> from us as to how you ought to walk and please God (just as you actually do walk), that you excel <i>even</i> more. As for other matters, brothers and sisters, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more.
2 For you know the instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus. For you know what instructions we gave you by <i>the authority of</i> the Lord Jesus. For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.
3 For it is God’s will that you should be holy: You must abstain from sexual immorality; For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; For this is the will of God, <i>even</i> your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: For this is the will of God, your sanctification; <i>that is,</i> that you abstain from sexual immorality; It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality;
4 each of you must know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable,
5 not in lustful passion like the Gentiles who do not know God; not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God: not in lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God; not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God;
6 and no one should ever violate or exploit his brother in this regard, because the Lord will avenge all such acts, as we have already told you and solemnly warned you. that no one transgress and wrong his brother in this matter, because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as we told you beforehand and solemnly warned you. That no <i>man</i> go beyond and defraud his brother in <i>any</i> matter: because that the Lord <i>is</i> the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified. <i>and</i> that no one violate the rights and take advantage of his brother <i>or sister</i> in the matter, because the Lord is <i>the</i> avenger in all these things, just as we also told you previously and solemnly warned <i>you.</i> and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister. The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before.
7 For God has not called us to impurity, but to holiness. For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness. For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. For God has not called us for impurity, but in sanctification. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.
8 Anyone, then, who rejects this command does not reject man but God, the very One who gives you His Holy Spirit. Therefore whoever disregards this, disregards not man but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you. He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit. Therefore, the one who rejects <i>this</i> is not rejecting man, but the God who gives His Holy Spirit to you. Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit.
9 Now about brotherly love, you do not need anyone to write to you, because you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another. Now concerning brotherly love you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another, But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another. Now as to the love of the brothers <i>and</i> sisters, you have no need for <i>anyone</i> to write to you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another; Now about your love for one another we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other.
10 And you are indeed showing this love to all the brothers throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, to excel more and more for that indeed is what you are doing to all the brothers throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, to do this more and more, And indeed ye do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia: but we beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more; for indeed you practice it toward all the brothers <i>and sisters</i> who are in all Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers <i>and sisters,</i> to excel <i>even</i> more, And in fact, you do love all of God’s family throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers and sisters, to do so more and more,
11 and to aspire to live quietly, to attend to your own matters, and to work with your own hands, as we instructed you. and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own <i>business</i> and work with your hands, just as we instructed you, and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you,
12 Then you will behave properly toward outsiders, without being dependent on anyone. so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one. That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and <i>that</i> ye may have lack of nothing. so that you will behave properly toward outsiders and not be in any need. so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
13 Brothers, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who are without hope. But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers <i>and sisters,</i> about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as indeed the rest <i>of mankind do,</i> who have no hope. Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.
14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose <i>from the dead,</i> so also God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep through Jesus. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
15 By the word of the Lord, we declare to you that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive <i>and</i> remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For we say this to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will not precede those who have fallen asleep. According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will be the first to rise. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of <i>the</i> archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
17 After that, we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Then we which are alive <i>and</i> remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Then we who are alive, who remain, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
