But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. | 26But not so with you. Rather, let the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. | 26"But it is not this way with you, but the one who is the greatest among you must become like the youngest, and the leader like the servant. | 26But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. | 26But it must not be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever is greatest among you must become like the youngest, and whoever leads, like the one serving. |
For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves. | 27For who is the greater, one who reclines at table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But I am among you as the one who serves. | 27"For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But I am among you as the one who serves. | 27For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth. | 27For who is greater, the one at the table or the one serving? Isn't it the one at the table? But I am among you as the One who serves. |
You are those who have stood by me in my trials. | 28“You are those who have stayed with me in my trials, | 28"You are those who have stood by Me in My trials; | 28Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations. | 28You are the ones who stood by Me in My trials. |
And I confer on you a kingdom, just as my Father conferred one on me, | 29and I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom, | 29and just as My Father has granted Me a kingdom, I grant you | 29And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me; | 29I bestow on you a kingdom, just as My Father bestowed one on Me, |
so that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. | 30that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. | 30that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. | 30That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel. | 30so that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom. And you will sit on thrones judging the 12 tribes of Israel. |

And they said, Nothing. | 35He also said to them, "When I sent you out without money-bag, traveling bag, or sandals, did you lack anything?"" Not a thing," they said. |
He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. | 36He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one. | 36And He said to them, "But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one. | 36Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. | 36Then He said to them, "But now, whoever has a money-bag should take it, and also a traveling bag. She looked closely at him and said, "This man was with him." | 56Then a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the light and looking closely at him, said, “This man also was with him.” | 56And a servant-girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight and looking intently at him, said, "This man was with Him too." | 56But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him. | 56When a servant saw him sitting in the firelight, and looked closely at him, she said, "This man was with Him too." |
But he denied it. "Woman, I don't know him," he said. | 57But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know him.” | 57But he denied it, saying, "Woman, I do not know Him." | 57And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not. | 57But he denied it: "Woman, I don't know Him!" |
A little later someone else saw him and said, "You also are one of them." "Man, I am not!" Peter replied. | 58And a little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.” | 58A little later, another saw him and said, "You are one of them too!" But Peter said, "Man, I am not!" | 58And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not. | 58After a little while, someone else saw him and said, "You're one of them too!"" Man, I am not!" Peter said. |
About an hour later another asserted, "Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean." | 59And after an interval of about an hour still another insisted, saying, “Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean.” | 59After about an hour had passed, another man began to insist, saying, "Certainly this man also was with Him, for he is a Galilean too." | 59And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean. | 59About an hour later, another kept insisting, "This man was certainly with Him, since he's also a Galilean." |
Peter replied, "Man, I don't know what you're talking about!" Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. | 60But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed. | 60But Peter said, "Man, I do not know what you are talking about." Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed. | 60And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew. | 60But Peter said, "Man, I don't know what you're talking about!" Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed. |
The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: "Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times." | 61And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.” | 61The Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, "Before a rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times." | 61And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. | 61Then the Lord turned and looked at Peter. So Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had said to him, "Before the rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times." |
And he went outside and wept bitterly. | 62And he went out and wept bitterly. | 62And he went out and wept bitterly. | 62And Peter went out, and wept bitterly. | 62And he went outside and wept bitterly. |
The Soldiers Mock Jesus
(Isaiah 50:4-11; Matthew 27:27-31; Mark 15:16-20; John 19:1-15) 63The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him. | 63Now the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking him as they beat him. | 63Now the men who were holding Jesus in custody were mocking Him and beating Him, | 63And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him. | 63The men who were holding Jesus started mocking and beating Him. |
They blindfolded him and demanded, "Prophesy! Who hit you?" | 64They also blindfolded him and kept asking him, “Prophesy! Who is it that struck you?” | 64and they blindfolded Him and were asking Him, saying, "Prophesy, who is the one who hit You?" | 64And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee? | 64After blindfolding Him, they kept asking, "Prophesy! Who hit You?" |
And they said many other insulting things to him. | 65And they said many other things against him, blaspheming him. | 65And they were saying many other things against Him, blaspheming. | 65And many other things blasphemously spake they against him. | 65And they were saying many other blasphemous things against Him. |
Jesus Before the Council 66At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and the teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them. | 66When day came, the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes. And they led him away to their council, and they said, | 66When it was day, the Council of elders of the people assembled, both chief priests and scribes, and they led Him away to their council chamber, saying, | 66And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying, | 66When daylight came, the elders of the people, both the chief priests and the scribes, convened and brought Him before their Sanhedrin. |
"If you are the Messiah," they said, "tell us." Jesus answered, "If I tell you, you will not believe me, | 67“If you are the Christ, tell us.” But he said to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe, | 67"If You are the Christ, tell us." But He said to them, "If I tell you, you will not believe; | 67Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe: | 67They said, "If You are the Messiah, tell us." But He said to them, "If I do tell you, you will not believe. |
and if I asked you, you would not answer. | 68and if I ask you, you will not answer. | 68and if I ask a question, you will not answer. | 68And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go. | 68And if I ask you, you will not answer. |
But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God." | 69But from now on the Son of Man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God.” | 69"But from now on THE SON OF MAN WILL BE SEATED AT THE RIGHT HAND of the power OF GOD." | 69Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God. | 69But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the Power of God." |
They all asked, "Are you then the Son of God?" He replied, "You say that I am." | 70So they all said, “Are you the Son of God, then?” And he said to them, “You say that I am.” | 70And they all said, "Are You the Son of God, then?" And He said to them, "Yes, I am." | 70Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am. | 70They all asked, "Are You, then, the Son of God?" And He said to them, "You say that I am."" |
Then they said, "Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips." | 71Then they said, “What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips.” | 71Then they said, "What further need do we have of testimony? For we have heard it ourselves from His own mouth." | 71And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth. | 71Why do we need any more testimony," they said, "since we've heard it ourselves from His mouth?" |
