A Lament for Tyre
1 וַיְהִ֥י (And came) דְבַר־ (the word) יְהוָ֖ה (of YHWH) אֵלַ֥י (to me) לֵאמֹֽר׃ (saying),
2 וְאַתָּ֣ה (And you) בֶן־ (son) אָדָ֔ם (of man), שָׂ֥א (take up) עַל־ (concerning) צֹ֖ר (Tyre); קִינָֽה׃ (a lamentation).
3 וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ (And say) לְצ֗וֹר (to Tyre), הַיֹּשַׁבְתִּי (the one dwelling) עַל־ (at) מְבוֹאֹ֣ת (the entrances) יָ֔ם (of the sea), רֹכֶ֙לֶת֙ (being merchant) הָֽעַמִּ֔ים (of the peoples) אֶל־ (on) אִיִּ֖ים (coasts), רַבִּ֑ים (many) כֹּ֤ה (thus) אָמַר֙ (says) אֲדֹנָ֣י (the Lord) יְהוִ֔ה (YHWH) צ֕וֹר (O Tyre), אַ֣תְּ (you) אָמַ֔רְתְּ (have said), אֲנִ֖י (I am) כְּלִ֥ילַת (perfect) יֹֽפִי׃ (in beauty).
4 בְּלֵ֥ב (In the midst) יַמִּ֖ים (of the seas), גְּבוּלָ֑יִךְ (are your borders) בֹּנַ֕יִךְ (and your builders) כָּלְל֖וּ (have perfected) יָפְיֵֽךְ׃ (your beauty).
5 בְּרוֹשִׁ֤ים (With cypress) מִשְּׂנִיר֙ (from Senir) בָּ֣נוּ (they have built) לָ֔ךְ (for you) אֵ֖ת (-) כָּל־ (all) לֻֽחֹתָ֑יִם (your planks) אֶ֤רֶז (a cedar) מִלְּבָנוֹן֙ (from Lebanon) לָקָ֔חוּ (they took) לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת (to make) תֹּ֖רֶן (a mast) עָלָֽיִךְ׃ (for you).
6 אַלּוֹנִים֙ (Of oaks) מִבָּ֔שָׁן (from Bashan) עָשׂ֖וּ (they made) מִשּׁוֹטָ֑יִךְ (your oars); קַרְשֵׁ֤ךְ (your boards) עָֽשׂוּ־ (they have made) שֵׁן֙ (with ivory), בַּת־ (of the daughter) אֲשֻׁרִ֔ים (of the Ashurites) מֵאִיֵּ֖י (from the coasts) כִּתִּיִּם׃ (of Cyprus).
7 שֵׁשׁ־ (Of fine linen) בְּרִקְמָ֤ה (with embroidery) מִמִּצְרַ֙יִם֙ (from Egypt) הָיָ֣ה (was) מִפְרָשֵׂ֔ךְ (your sail) לִהְי֥וֹת (to be) לָ֖ךְ (for you) לְנֵ֑ס (a banner); תְּכֵ֧לֶת (blue) וְאַרְגָּמָ֛ן (and purple) מֵאִיֵּ֥י (from the coasts) אֱלִישָׁ֖ה (of Elishah) הָיָ֥ה (was) מְכַסֵּֽךְ׃ (your awning).
8 יֹשְׁבֵ֤י (Those dwelling) צִידוֹן֙ (in Sidon) וְאַרְוַ֔ד (and Arvad) הָי֥וּ (were) שָׁטִ֖ים (the rowers); לָ֑ךְ (for you) חֲכָמַ֤יִךְ (your wise men) צוֹר֙ (O Tyre), הָ֣יוּ (were) בָ֔ךְ (in you) הֵ֖מָּה (they were) חֹבְלָֽיִךְ׃ (your pilots).
9 זִקְנֵ֨י (Elders) גְבַ֤ל (of Gebal) וַחֲכָמֶ֙יהָ֙ (and her wise men) הָ֣יוּ (were) בָ֔ךְ (in you) מַחֲזִיקֵ֖י (strengthening) בִּדְקֵ֑ךְ (your breaches); כָּל־ (all) אֳנִיּ֨וֹת (the ships) הַיָּ֤ם (of the sea) וּמַלָּֽחֵיהֶם֙ (and their sailors) הָ֣יוּ (were) בָ֔ךְ (in you) לַעֲרֹ֖ב (to offer) מַעֲרָבֵֽךְ׃ (merchandise to you).
10 פָּרַ֨ס (Persia) וְל֤וּד (and Lydia) וּפוּט֙ (and Libya) הָי֣וּ (were) בְחֵילֵ֔ךְ (in your force), אַנְשֵׁ֖י (as men) מִלְחַמְתֵּ֑ךְ (of war for you). מָגֵ֤ן (Shield) וְכוֹבַע֙ (and helmet) תִּלּוּ־ (they hung) בָ֔ךְ (within you) הֵ֖מָּה (they) נָתְנ֥וּ (gave) הֲדָרֵֽךְ׃ (splendor to you).
11 בְּנֵ֧י (The sons) אַרְוַ֣ד (of Arvad) וְחֵילֵ֗ךְ (and Helech) עַל־ (were on) חוֹמוֹתַ֙יִךְ֙ (your walls) סָבִ֔יב (round about), וְגַ֨מָּדִ֔ים (and the Gammadites) בְּמִגְדְּלוֹתַ֖יִךְ (on your towers). הָי֑וּ (Were) שִׁלְטֵיהֶ֞ם (their shields) תִּלּ֤וּ (they hung) עַל־ (on) חוֹמוֹתַ֙יִךְ֙ (your walls) סָבִ֔יב (round about); הֵ֖מָּה (they) כָּלְל֥וּ (perfected) יָפְיֵֽךְ׃ (your beauty).
12 תַּרְשִׁ֥ישׁ (Tarshish was) סֹחַרְתֵּ֖ךְ (your merchant) מֵרֹ֣ב (from the abundance) כָּל־ (of all) ה֑וֹן (wealth); בְּכֶ֤סֶף (in silver), בַּרְזֶל֙ (iron), בְּדִ֣יל (tin), וְעוֹפֶ֔רֶת (and lead), נָתְנ֖וּ (they gave) עִזְבוֹנָֽיִךְ׃ (for your wares).
13 יָוָ֤ן (Javan), תֻּבַל֙ (Tubal), וָמֶ֔שֶׁךְ (and Meshech), הֵ֖מָּה (they) רֹֽכְלָ֑יִךְ (traded); בְּנֶ֤פֶשׁ (in souls) אָדָם֙ (of man) וּכְלֵ֣י (and vessels) נְחֹ֔שֶׁת (of bronze) נָתְנ֖וּ (they gave) מַעֲרָבֵֽךְ׃ (for your merchandise).
14 מִבֵּ֖ית (From the house) תּוֹגַרְמָ֑ה (of Togarmah) סוּסִ֤ים (horses) וּפָֽרָשִׁים֙ (and steeds) וּפְרָדִ֔ים (and mules) נָתְנ֖וּ (they gave) עִזְבוֹנָֽיִךְ׃ (for your wares).
15 בְּנֵ֤י (The sons) דְדָן֙ (of Dedan) רֹֽכְלַ֔יִךְ (were your traders); אִיִּ֥ים (coastlands) רַבִּ֖ים (many) סְחֹרַ֣ת (were your market) יָדֵ֑ךְ (of your hand); קַרְנ֥וֹת (horns) שֵׁן֙ (of ivory) וְהוֹבְנִים (and ebony). הֵשִׁ֖יבוּ (They returned) אֶשְׁכָּרֵֽךְ׃ (as your payment).
16 אֲרָ֥ם (Aram) סֹחַרְתֵּ֖ךְ (was your merchant) מֵרֹ֣ב (from the abundance) מַעֲשָׂ֑יִךְ (of your works); בְּ֠נֹפֶךְ (in turquoise), אַרְגָּמָ֨ן (purple), וְרִקְמָ֤ה (and embroidery), וּבוּץ֙ (and fine linen), וְרָאמֹ֣ת (and corals), וְכַדְכֹּ֔ד (and rubies) נָתְנ֖וּ (they gave) בְּעִזְבוֹנָֽיִךְ׃ (for your wares).
17 יְהוּדָה֙ (Judah), וְאֶ֣רֶץ (and the land) יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל (of Israel), הֵ֖מָּה (they) רֹכְלָ֑יִךְ (traded with you); בְּחִטֵּ֣י (in wheat) מִ֠נִּית (of Minnith), וּפַנַּ֨ג (and meal), וּדְבַ֤שׁ (and honey), וָשֶׁ֙מֶן֙ (and oil), וָצֹ֔רִי (and balm) נָתְנ֖וּ (they gave) מַעֲרָבֵֽךְ׃ (for your merchandise).
18 דַּמֶּ֧שֶׂק (Damascus also was) סֹחַרְתֵּ֛ךְ (traded with you) בְּרֹ֥ב (from the abundance) מַעֲשַׂ֖יִךְ (of your works), מֵרֹ֣ב (from the abundance) כָּל־ (of all) ה֑וֹן (your wealth); בְּיֵ֥ין (with wine) חֶלְבּ֖וֹן (of Helbon), וְצֶ֥מֶר (and with wool) צָֽחַר׃ (of Sahar).
19 וְדָ֤ן (And Dan) וְיָוָן֙ (and Javan) מְאוּזָּ֔ל (from Uzal) בְּעִזְבוֹנַ֖יִךְ (for your wares); נָתָ֑נּוּ (gave) בַּרְזֶ֤ל (iron), עָשׁוֹת֙ (smoothed) קִדָּ֣ה (cassia), וְקָנֶ֔ה (and cane), בְּמַעֲרָבֵ֖ךְ (among your merchandise) הָיָֽה׃ (were).
20 דְּדָן֙ (Dedan) רֹֽכַלְתֵּ֔ךְ (was your merchant) בְבִגְדֵי־ (in saddle) חֹ֖פֶשׁ (cloths) לְרִכְבָּֽה׃ (for riding).
21 עֲרַב֙ (Arabia), וְכָל־ (and all) נְשִׂיאֵ֣י (the princes) קֵדָ֔ר (of Kedar), הֵ֖מָּה (they) סֹחֲרֵ֣י (were trading) יָדֵ֑ךְ (with you) בְּכָרִ֤ים (in lambs), וְאֵילִים֙ (and rams), וְעַתּוּדִ֔ים (and goats); בָּ֖ם (in them all) סֹחֲרָֽיִךְ׃ (they were your merchants).
22 רֹכְלֵ֤י (The traders) שְׁבָא֙ (of Sheba) וְרַעְמָ֔ה (and Raamah), הֵ֖מָּה (they) רֹכְלָ֑יִךְ (traded with you); בְּרֹ֨אשׁ (in the choicest) כָּל־ (of all) בֹּ֜שֶׂם (spice), וּבְכָל־ (and in every) אֶ֤בֶן (of stones), יְקָרָה֙ (precious) וְזָהָ֔ב (and gold) נָתְנ֖וּ (they gave) עִזְבוֹנָֽיִךְ׃ (for your wares).
23 חָרָ֤ן (Haran), וְכַנֵּה֙ (and Canneh), וָעֶ֔דֶן (and Eden), רֹכְלֵ֖י (were traders) שְׁבָ֑א (of Sheba), אַשּׁ֖וּר (Assyria), כִּלְמַ֥ד (and Chilmad), רֹכַלְתֵּֽךְ׃ (traded with you).
24 הֵ֤מָּה (They) רֹכְלַ֙יִךְ֙ (traded with you) בְּמַכְלֻלִ֔ים (in fine) בִּגְלוֹמֵי֙ (garments), תְּכֵ֣לֶת (of blue) וְרִקְמָ֔ה (embroidered work), וּבְגִנְזֵ֖י (rugs) בְּרֹמִ֑ים (and multicolored), בַּחֲבָלִ֧ים (with cords), חֲבֻשִׁ֛ים (tightly twisted) וַאֲרֻזִ֖ים (and knotted), בְּמַרְכֻלְתֵּֽךְ׃ (for your marketplace).
25 אֳנִיּ֣וֹת (The ships) תַּרְשִׁ֔ישׁ (of Tarshish) שָׁרוֹתַ֖יִךְ (were the transporters) מַעֲרָבֵ֑ךְ (of your merchandise). וַתִּמָּלְאִ֧י (And you were full), וַֽתִּכְבְּדִ֛י (and heavy) מְאֹ֖ד (very) בְּלֵ֥ב־ (in the midst) יַמִּֽים׃ (of the seas).
26 בְּמַ֤יִם (Into waters); רַבִּים֙ (many) הֱבִיא֔וּךְ (they have brought you) הַשָּׁטִ֖ים (those rowing) אֹתָ֑ךְ (for you) ר֚וּחַ (a wind from) הַקָּדִ֔ים (the east) שְׁבָרֵ֖ךְ (has broken you) בְּלֵ֥ב (in the midst) יַמִּֽים׃ (of the seas).
27 הוֹנֵךְ֙ (Your riches), וְעִזְבוֹנַ֔יִךְ (and your wares), מַעֲרָבֵ֕ךְ (your merchandise), מַלָּחַ֖יִךְ (your mariners), וְחֹבְלָ֑יִךְ (and your pilots), מַחֲזִיקֵ֣י (the repairers) בִדְקֵ֣ך (of your breaches), וְֽעֹרְבֵ֣י (and those offering) מַ֠עֲרָבֵךְ (your merchandise) וְכָל־ (and all) אַנְשֵׁ֨י (your men) מִלְחַמְתֵּ֜ךְ (of war), אֲשֶׁר־ (who are) בָּ֗ךְ (in you) וּבְכָל־ (and all) קְהָלֵךְ֙ (your assembled force) אֲשֶׁ֣ר (which is) בְּתוֹכֵ֔ךְ (in your midst) יִפְּלוּ֙ (will fall) בְּלֵ֣ב (into the midst) יַמִּ֔ים (of the seas) בְּי֖וֹם (on the day) מַפַּלְתֵּֽךְ׃ (of your downfall).
28 לְק֖וֹל (At the sound) זַעֲקַ֣ת (of the cry) חֹבְלָ֑יִךְ (of your sailors) יִרְעֲשׁ֖וּ (will shake) מִגְרֹשֽׁוֹת׃ (the common lands).
29 וְֽיָרְד֞וּ (And they will come down) מֵאָנִיּֽוֹתֵיהֶ֗ם (from their ships), כֹּ֚ל (all) תֹּפְשֵׂ֣י (those handling) מָשׁ֔וֹט (the oar), מַלָּחִ֕ים (the mariners), כֹּ֖ל (and all) חֹבְלֵ֣י (the sailors) הַיָּ֑ם (of the sea), אֶל־ (at) הָאָ֖רֶץ (the shore); יַעֲמֹֽדוּ׃ (will stand).
30 וְהִשְׁמִ֤יעוּ (And they will make heard) עָלַ֙יִךְ֙ (over you) בְּקוֹלָ֔ם (their voice) וְיִזְעֲק֖וּ (and they will cry out) מָרָ֑ה (bitterly), וְיַעֲל֤וּ (and they will bring up) עָֽפָר֙ (dust) עַל־ (upon) רָ֣אשֵׁיהֶ֔ם (their heads), בָּאֵ֖פֶר (in ashes) יִתְפַּלָּֽשׁוּ׃ (they will roll about).
31 וְהִקְרִ֤יחוּ (And they will shave themselves) אֵלַ֙יִךְ֙ (because of you) קָרְחָ֔ה (bald) וְחָגְר֖וּ (and they will gird themselves) שַׂקִּ֑ים (with sackcloth), וּבָכ֥וּ (and weep) אֵלַ֛יִךְ (for you) בְּמַר־ (with bitterness) נֶ֖פֶשׁ (of heart) מִסְפֵּ֥ד (wailing) מָֽר׃ (bitter).
32 וְנָשְׂא֨וּ (And they will lift up) אֵלַ֤יִךְ (for you) בְּנִיהֶם֙ (in their wailing) קִינָ֔ה (a lamentation) וְקוֹנְנ֖וּ (and they will lament) עָלָ֑יִךְ (over you) מִ֣י (Who was) כְצ֔וֹר (like Tyre), כְּדֻמָ֖ה (silenced) בְּת֥וֹךְ (in the midst) הַיָּֽם׃ (of the sea)?
33 בְּצֵ֤את (In the going forth of) עִזְבוֹנַ֙יִךְ֙ (your wares) מִיַּמִּ֔ים (from the sea), הִשְׂבַּ֖עַתְּ (you satisfied) עַמִּ֣ים (people); רַבִּ֑ים (many) בְּרֹ֤ב (with the abundance) הוֹנַ֙יִךְ֙ (of your wealth) וּמַ֣עֲרָבַ֔יִךְ (and your merchandise). הֶעֱשַׁ֖רְתְּ (You enriched) מַלְכֵי־ (the kings) אָֽרֶץ׃ (of the earth).
34 עֵ֛ת (In time) נִשְׁבֶּ֥רֶת (you are broken) מִיַּמִּ֖ים (by the seas) בְּמַֽעֲמַקֵּי־ (in the depths) מָ֑יִם (of the waters) מַעֲרָבֵ֥ךְ (your merchandise) וְכָל־ (and all) קְהָלֵ֖ךְ (your assembled force) בְּתוֹכֵ֥ךְ (in your midst) נָפָֽלוּ׃ (have fallen).
35 כֹּ֚ל (All) יֹשְׁבֵ֣י (the dwellers) הָאִיִּ֔ים (of the coasts) שָׁמְמ֖וּ (are appalled) עָלָ֑יִךְ (over you) וּמַלְכֵיהֶם֙ (and their kings) שָׂ֣עֲרוּ (bristle) שַׂ֔עַר (with bristling), רָעֲמ֖וּ (trembled) פָּנִֽים׃ (the faces).
36 סֹֽחֲרִים֙ (The traders) בָּ֣עַמִּ֔ים (among the nations) שָׁרְק֖וּ (hiss) עָלָ֑יִךְ (at you) בַּלָּה֣וֹת (a horror), הָיִ֔ית (you have become) וְאֵינֵ֖ךְ (and you will be no more) עַד־ (even to) עוֹלָֽם׃ס (forever).
